Buhari Tsoho (a.k.a. Buharin Daji, i.e. Buhari of the Forest) was reputed to be the most vicious of all the brigands perpetrating atrocities in Zamfara and neighbouring states. He was killed by his deputy, on behalf of the government, on Wednesday. His body was found today. Buhari was born in Dangulbi town, near Dansadau town in Zamfara state. Buhari was said to be the leader of the main gang carrying out horrible killings and mass murder in villages across the state, as well as in Kaduna and Katsina states. His record of ruthlessness has no match. His road to perdition was paved with stones of betrayal and classic Mafia creeds. Recently, he had stormed a Fulani settlement of Katsinawa in Zamfara state and carted away some cattle belonging to the father-in-law of Gide Dogo. Dogo was Buhari’s second in-command but had since switched loyalties. He is now assisting the security forces in clearing all the enclaves of cattle rustlers and wayward gunmen in those states. Dogo sought a truce in which the cattle could be returned, but Buhari refused for some time. Finally, he agreed to meet with Dogo in the mountainous Nabango forest located in the Goron Dutse district of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Kaduna state, to discuss the truce. On the appointed time on Wednesday, as Buhari approached the venue, Dogo opened fire and killed him and his six top commanders. Hausa people in parts of Niger Republic, Northern Nigeria, Sudan, Ghana and others are known with fond of representing names of prophets and prophets companions, then their particular native names as backup, making it second or third names. This traditional naming is more privalent to the ruralship or township Hausas, in exemption to their urbanised counterparts which some take as being gravely unletterd, not knowing that numbers of the names they are contemplating to be of Arabian origin are not Arabic. Names like Nuhu (Noah), Ibrahim(Abraham), Idris(Enoch), Dauda, Dawud (David), Imran, Isah(Jesus), Samu(Samuel), Hana(Hannah), Yunusa(Jonah) e.t.c are not Arabic names and they don’t have meanings in Arabic language; The present Arabians describe the names by saying name of such prophet of God, but in Hausa, numbers have meanings, being that Hausa is one of ancient african civilisations that dwelled in the Middle East in those days, according to hausa analysts. There situated one of ancient African kingdoms, Birnin lalle in Dakoro district of Maradi state of Niger Republic. The ancient Gobir kingdom in West Africa was renowned for its historic occurances in Gobir history: city of Henna trees (the trees that fetches the city its name) which numbers of them now did not withstand test of time in the lake owing to traditions of Hausa women body beautifications, marriage rite bathing and others; location of Kushewar Tahoua, the tomb of first marked womanly royalty in Gobir, Queen Sarauniya Tahawwa, mother to founders of Birnin konni in Tahoua state of Niger Republic and Argungu emirate in kebbi state of Nigeria; throne of Sarki Dalla Gungume, also called Sarki Kututturu(one of African historic sculptured king that was had in the kingdom); location of remarkable lake of its kind in the country “Tabkin lalle”, which attracts tourists from within and outside Maradi state, Niger Republic. Birnin lalle is the next capital Gobirawas settled in after Birnin Marandat and Birnin Toro. The city was founded centuries ago by Gobir hausas when they were in quest of a river or lake they would be practicing their dry season farming, being them farmers since day one. The city got its name from the Henna trees they found at the lake bank, by approaching the area with the spacious lake and founding the trees there, they instantly gave the area name, by exclaming “Wannan wuri Birnin lalle kenan! -What a place bound with Henna trees!” The lake is the reason of their settling in there, due to their ancient occupation farming and the fact that water is life. According to historians, the Gobir capital, Birnin lalle was founded about 2000 years ago. Gobir people of ancient time are incessant travelers, they wandered all the way from Baghdad to their last spot, moreover amidst their capitals that they deserted, each one has a purpose surrounding… “Drought”, “Femine”, ” Lack of stream”, “War” and other social vices, as speculated. But on the part of Birnin lalle it was as a result of outbreak of femine. After the former founders moved, it was said the city made another boom 300 years back as a commercial city of that time, according to one oral historian in the ancient city, where the myth was that Kano based Merchants Caravans don’t stop by to sell-off goods to buyers enroute- untill they got to Lalle, then the present economic state “Maradi” was still a little village or not even in existence. Birnin lalle was once an administrative headquarter of French colonies but following the Frenchman’s dissatisfaction in the frogs crowing emerging from the lake, Maibuje (name given to him by the people, meaning one who wore skirt) moved the quarter to present Dakoro, a 15 km distance away from Birnin lalle. Sarki Issuhou Maidabo is the traditional ruler of the ancient kingdom of Birnin Lalle. He was enthroned to the ancient kingdom for about 50 years with traditional authority to villages and towns assigned to the kingdom by the French Government while others to a neighbouring kingdom, Kornaka under rule of Tuaregs (Abzinawas), formerly a Gobir hausa kingdom. Abzinawas were opportuned to rule the kingdom after their forefather Sarki Jaku settled in Kornaka Town. He married a Bagobira princess by name Princess Sahiya. When the Bagobiri king that ruled the kingdom last died and he begot no heir to succeed him, Jaku implored on his inlaws, the royals of Tibiri Gobir to let him be the next king to the throne and they have no option than to let him because Gobir hausas have such a tradition in them not to turn down their Inlaws requests and they enthroned him. His lineage are the rulers of ancient town of Kornaka populated with Hausas, Tuaregs(Abzinawa), Buzaye, Zarmas, Kanuris and Fulanis in the Dakoro district of Maradi state in Niger Republic. Tabkin Lalle covers about hundreds hectares of land implanted with different species of trees and enrevling sweet songs of birds as one approaches the lake. The remarkable lake attracts tourists and visitors from within and outside the country, most especially during Islamic festivals. The inhabitants who practiced dry season farming harvests tons of fresh vegetables and fruits which they distribute to neighbouring towns and villages markets, and generating revenue by so doing. In addition, under the undisputable President of the nation and with aid of International interventions, the dry season farming was strenghtened with provisions of Machineries and enlightment. President Muhammadou Issuhou launched a program called “Dan Nijar ya cida Dan Nijar” let Nigerienes feeds Nigerines in the country in the year 2015 and Birnin lalle was among the beneficiaries of the program till date. Tabkin lalle also serves as must go for to camels and cattle rearers- Normadic Tuaregs and Fulanis, when other lakes that provides water to their livestocks had dried-off. Sarki Kututturu amidst other kings that were had in the city; Sarki Barankame, Sarki Kanni, Sarki Bartakeskes, Sarki Hammadin, Sarki Bartuwatuwa and others were among the Gobir 380 kings, but the fascinating fact is that Sarki Kututturu is not human king- it’s scuptured. The sculptured king, Sarki Kuturturu is an example of ancient African technology- tactics used by Africans to overcome a difficult situation in olden days and this is one of historical occurances in Gobir. The king is counted among Gobir kings. An idea came to the royals fathers when they are out for a walk in the forest, they found a trunk and calved-out sculpture from it and enthroned it. They implemented this trick so as to checkmate killings of innocent kings by the rival royal families in Birnin lalle, when there was misunderstanding among the royal families in choosing a king. After the trunk king had been enthroned, the opposing royal families came forth as usual to make the king’s end, as they done have to others, but they found Sarki firm and fixed in his throne. To their understandings they don’t know the number of charms or amulets he possesses that made him not be scared of them or what he has in mind, at that instant they let peace reign and gave room to enthrone human kings long before they moved. Sarki Kannin and Sarki Hammadin the two surviving sons of Queen Sarauniya Tahawwa survived it by fleeing at night, as they have planned. They were forced to the throne one after another. They mounted horses and fleed northward and founded the present Birnin konni in Niger Republic and Argungu emirate in Kebbi state of Nigeria. Whenever their Mother, Queen Sarauniya Tahawwa recalled on how her two surviving sons got lost in the tiny air she would lament “Gobirawa haka kunka kai ni, bani ga Kanni, bani ga Hammadin?- Gobirawas is this how you got me there, separating me from Kanni and Hammadin?” out of grief, according to late hausa traditional musician and historian, Alhaji Maidaji Sabon Birni. After that she later reunited with her two sons when she learnt of their whereabouts. Sarki Kanni’s pregnant wife which he left at Birnin Lalle was brought to him and his supporters flooded and lived with him. Sarki Kanni and his younger brother Sarki Hammadi each wore normal Gobir tribal marks six (6) and seven (7) scars respectively on their right and left cheek, and at the birth of their first children they decided that each child should have ten (10) or Twelve (12) scars in order to differentiate their children from other Gobirawa children. After a few years of stay with his elder brother Kanni who became the beloved and undisputed leader, Hammadin, considering that he has accomplished his duty, moved and founded Argungu emirate in present Nigeria. In the previous year, Chief Femi Falana (SAN), a popular Human Right Activist filled a case of genocide and ethnic cleansing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in Hague and the ECOWAS Court, against Fulani herdsmen for their continued massacre of the innocent people and farmers in Jukunland of Southern and Central Taraba State, in North Eastern part of Nigeria. This just in: After a recent crises that erupted between Fulanis and Mambila people, the Fulani cattle rearers association, Miyetti Allah is next week to take the case to International criminal court (ICC) in Hague, Netherland which they labelled genocide against Fulanis. According to the news, as reported by BBC Hausa, Miyetti Allah is suspecting genocide against Fulanis in Mambila town in Sardauna local government area of Taraba state. The said ethnic crises started last week between Fulanis and Mambila people. Some uncertain sources have stated that the crises has claimed death of about thousand people and killing of three hundred animals. GanAllah, another separate Fulani organisation point their accusing finger on Government of Taraba over the killings. Dr Yusuf Maitama Sule Danmasanin Kano was born in the year 1929, that’s about 88 years ago in Yola quarter, Kano city. Maitama is the third child in his family, younger to Rabi, who was nicknamed Yaya ta Zagi and Maimuna who was nicknamed by Yaya ta Bichi. He was named Yusuf, after father of traditional title holder of Madaki of Kano Mahmudu, the Madaki used to refer to him as Abbana. He got the name Maitama beacause of traditional title holder Galadima of Kano Yusuf, because many crude weapons were used during Kano civil war of that time. Because of this every child named after Yusuf was nicknamed Maitama in Kano kingdom. The Madaki of Kano made father of Maitama, Abba Sule Danmuri, his caretaker and in charge of feeding and caring for his horses. Maitama, is 4 years at birth when his mother Hauwa, who was nicknamed ‘Yarkayi died. She was endowed by God a comedian, entertainer and never can find her in state of bad mood, this was the reason she was occasionally invited to grace every occasion with her eloquent speech, her eloquence is what Maitama inherited. Madaki of Kano enrolled Maitama in elementary shool at Shahuci in January, 1937, but before they were taken to Western education, they were already undergoing Qur’anic education at home. According to the rules, one must make four years in elementary school, but because of Maitamas outstanding intelligence within two years of entrance, he was permited to further school. It’s in that instance Maitama started facing challenges he never faced in his lifetime. For it’s in this joint Madaki Mahmudu, who takes his personal responsibilities died in the year 1939. The throne of Madaki was deserted, for two years, no one was enthroned, until the year 1941. The history of Gobir has begun for 5,000 years with 1,100 years of migration. According to the explanations given by the head of the Maradi Institute for Social Sciences (IRSH), Mr. Sani Habou Magagi, If we take from the Eastern origin, the Gobirawa have come from Baghdad. That is to say present Iraq, which is their first site or first capital. Their 2nd site or 2nd capital is Birnin Qudus in Jerusalem, The 3rd capital is Birnin Gubur in Yamen where they got the name “Gobir”, The 4th is Birnin Karbala in Saudi Arabia, The 5th is Birnin Masar (Egypt in Africa). The 6th capital is Birnin Surukan in Tunisia, The 7th is Birnin Tunasse still in Tunisia (North Africa), The 8th capital is Birnin Bagazane (now Agadez) in Niger (West Africa), The 9th is Birnin Aigadasse still in Niger Republic, The 10th is Birnin Tinliguilit in Niger also, The 11th is Birnin Marandat in Niger, The 12th capital is Birnin Toro in Niger, The 13th is Birnin Lalle in Niger, The 14th is Birnin Gwararabe in Niger, The 15th is Birnin Alkalawa in Nigeria, The 16th capital is Birnin Dakorawa in Niger, The 17th Capital is Birnin Gawon Gazau in Nigeria. The 18th capital is Birnin Maradi in Niger (where there was a cohabitation with the Katsinawas) and the 19th and last capital is Birnin Tibiri Gobir in Niger. So there were 19 capitals, from Iraq to Niger, during 1100 years of migration; It should be noted that with these multiple migrations, the first Gobirawas mingled with the indigenous populations found on the spot. According to the explanation given by the head of the IRSH, the capital Tibiri (Gobir) was created in the 19th century, more precisely in 1835 by Sarki Gobir Djibon Taouba; Gobirawas founded their 19th capital at Birnin Tibiri in 1835 at the end of the Battle of Dakorawa between Mahamane Bello and two (2) sovereigns: one of Katsina Maradi, known as Raouda and the other of Tibiri called Ali. According to Sani Habou Magagi, if we take this genealogical list from the first traditional ruler to the Gobir 380th ruler, Sultan Elhadj Abdourahmane Balla Marafa, we can say that the Gobir’s climax came to fruition during the reign of Sarkin Gobir Bawa Jangwarzo. His fame has reached the four corners of the world. During his reign there was no wickedness and he was the absolute master of the Gobir. He prayed for a mysterious secret by which his power was recognized outside the Gobir. The decline of large West African empires or kingdoms began with the “Jihad” of El Hadj Omar in western Sudan, that of Usmanu Danfodio in central Sudan and the “Jihad” of Mahadi in eastern Sudan. And it was during the same period, 19th century, that these three (3) Jihads took place. As for the decline of the Gobir, there was the Fulani war of Usman Danfodio who targeted the reigning family with the crisis between the sovereign Yunfa and his brothers; There were also tribal and intestine wars between the different states and at the beginning of the 20th century there was colonial penetration which aided in weakening these great kingdoms in West Africa.
