PoliticsBREAKING: Oshiomhole’s Former Aide Defects To PDP With Thousands Of Supporters by dapelua(op): 9:54am On Sep 24, 2018
- A former aide to the national chairman of the APC has defected to PDP.
- The aide, Kassim Afegbua, said he was dissatisfied after serving under the APC administration for eight years

- According to him, PDP is more sympathetic to the plight of Nigerians than the ruling party

Kassim Afegbua, former special adviser on media to the immediate past governor of Edo and APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, has defected with thousands of his supporters to the PDP.

Afegbua, who was also commissioner for information in Edo, was received by the party’s chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, at Okpella, Etsako East local government area of the state on Sunday, September 23.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the former aide to Oshiomhole said he took the “bold step” in rejoining his former party, because of infrastructural deficit in his community.

He said that though he served under the APC- led administration in the state for 8 years, he felt dissatisfied, because of the state of roads and lack of development in Okpella community..

Afegbua also lamented the absence of electricity in the community and complained of high inflation and rising costs of commodities across the local markets.

He said the APC members were defecting to the PDP on account of poor roads and neglect of the community by the state government. He said that the PDP was sympathetic with flood victims in the locality and blamed the state government for what he termed “slow response” to the problem.

Afebgua said the PDP was aware of donation of relief materials by some federal government agencies and appealed against diversion of the items.

The spokesman of other defectors, Chief Ekpen Abu, pledged their readiness to work with the party to win the next election in the area and the state in general.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that no fewer than 2,000 people defectedfrom the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano state. The APC members defection to PDP took place in Sumaila local government area of Kano state.

It was gathered that the former members of the APC were all received by an ex-governor of Kano state Ibrahim Shekarau, Aminu Wali and Gambo Salau.

From what premium time has posted, it is clear PDP has lost the election in Osun state. That is the only reason they did not post the results of Osogbo LGC. There is no reason they will obtain and publish all the other 29 LG results; even those remote from the state capital. It is curious. PDP have lost woefully in the state capital and it had erased the slim margin they enjoy from stronghold areas. That is why premium times cunningly and mischievously refused publish the final result of Osogbo, just to create a sort of apprehension and doubt in the hearts of unsuspecting online gullibles.

Politics2019: Obasanjo Advises Women To Mobilise, Secure Better Place by dapelua(op): 4:15am On Jul 21, 2018
-Nigerian women have been advised to mobilise girls and the youth to register as voters and obtain voter card to enable them vote in 2019

- He said participating in the electoral process was the only way women would not be consigned to the other room

- The former president also claimed he was he was the first president to appoint nine women into government

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has advised women to mobilise girls and the youth to register as voters and obtain voter card to enable them vote in 2019 elections.

Obasanjo said that participating in the electoral process was the only way women would not be consigned to “the other room” or the kitchen.

He stated this in a keynote address on “My Understanding of Women Aspiration in Business and Nation Building’’ on Friday, July 20, in Ibadan. He said he was the first president to appoint nine women into government.

The programme was organised by Initiative for Information, Arts and Culture Developments in Nigeria and the American Corner Jericho, Ibadan.

“No nation will become great when half of her population ends up only in the kitchen and the other room or get disproportionately discriminated against in the higher echelon of corporate management and in governance.

“The women represent a tool for positive change, depending on how they are treated and the levels of opportunities given to them to actualise their potential.

“The progress and development of any nation, I must say, is equal to the quality of women in that society,” he said.

The former president said that having worked with several women of virtue, “women as they are, lighten the space of governance’’.

He, however, blamed women for self-exclusion in the governance structure and processes.

“The country must stand to make a difference on the issue of gender inequality; the girl-child, like their male counterparts, must be allowed to have a say in the decision that affects their future.’’

Obasanjo charged women to take a quick look at history and understand how they had marginalized themselves, especially as the 2019 elections gathered steam.

“Women should know that they suffer double jeopardy when the wicked or the clueless rule. Women and their children are usually direct and indirect victims of ill-governance and poor leadership.

“Since independence, over 57 years ago, no woman neither occupied the highest office nor the second highest office in the land.

“Likewise, no woman has occupied the seat of Senate President and no woman has been elected governor of a state.

“Negotiate and seize the hour before they turn the table against you in 2019. This is my take: we should all rise from this meeting today and say to ourselves `enough is enough,” he said.

Chairman of the event, Prof. Bolanle Awe, recounted how in 1976, Obasanjo constituted 50-member committee without including any woman and which had laid the foundation for women marginalization in the political structure of the country till date.

Ms Darcy Zotter of the Department of Public Affairs, US Consulate, Lagos, urged women to be a 21st-century change agent through social media advocacy and activism.

She noted that even the United States had not met the 30 per cent women political affirmative action in line with the Beijing Conference of 1995.

The discussants, Mrs Achenyo Idachaba-Obara, Mrs Edem Ossai and Dr Olajumoke Morenikeji, in their separate remarks, agreed that women were doing more and getting less in policy formulation and key decision-making levels.

Dignitaries at the event included Gov. Abiola Ajimobi, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Atinuke Osunkoya; Prof. Akin Mabogunje, Prof Ayo Banjo, KOWA Party Presidential Candidate in 2015 elections, Prof. Remi Sonaya.

Obasanjo disclosed this in Abuja at a summit organised by Prof. Ango Abdullahi where leaders of socio-political groups met to discuss the future of the country.

PoliticsEkiti Election: UK Condemns Alleged Vote Buying .... by dapelua(op): 4:02am On Jul 21, 2018
- The act of vote buying that pervaded the just concluded Ekiti election has been condemned by the UK

- UK, however, commended INEC for its efforts in the conduct of the polls and called for enhanced cooperation from all

- UK secretary of State for International Development, Penny Mordaunt who disclosed this expressed confidence in Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen its democracy

The UK has condemned the act of vote buying allegedly perpetrated during the July 14 gubernatorial elections in Ekiti state and called on all Nigerians to respect the laws ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The UK saecretary of State for International Development, Penny Mordaunt MP made the call following a meeting with the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu in Abuja on Friday.

Mordaunt, however, commended INEC for its efforts in the conduct of the polls and called for enhanced cooperation from all.

“This past weekend, citizens of Ekiti went to the polls and voted for a new governor.

“The British High Commissioner was joined by the EU Ambassador and the U.S. Consul General who led an international group of observers at those elections.

“Though the elections were largely peaceful, and results widely endorsed by key stakeholders, vote buying by both the main political parties was widely criticised.

“There is time to tackle some of the challenges noted before next year’s election but INEC will not be able to solve all electoral problems on its own. Everyone in the society has a role to play and a contribution to make.”

The UK secretary expressed confidence in Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen its democracy through the conduct of peaceful, free and fair elections.

She urged political parties to respect the electoral code of conduct and encouraged security agencies to remain “visibly neutral” and ensure a secure environment for the electorate.

“I am therefore calling on political leaders, the media and Nigerians at large, to act responsibly and use their platforms to urge the people to exercise their democratic right, and to do so within the law.”

Also speaking with newsmen, British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb. Paul Arkwright, described the act of vote buying as illegal.

“I was there in Ekiti and was observing in the elections. I heard a lot of reports of alleged vote buying and we are convinced that some vote buying went on.

“I condemn it; it is illegal, it is against the law.

“We just had a meeting with the chairman of INEC and we have been talking about public awareness and how the political parties themselves can take responsibility for condemning this action and not continuing it."

Arkwright also commended the general conduct of the electoral process in Ekiti and expressed confidence in INEC ahead of the 2019 elections.

The envoy also reiterated the support of the UK in promoting democracy in Nigeria.

“The UK is a very strong supporter of INEC and together with the USAID, we are spending something like $60 million over a six-year period in support of deepening democracy in Nigeria.

“This (aid) is about technical support, voter awareness, encouraging women and people with disabilities to come out and vote.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this is the first visit of the UK International Development Secretary to Nigeria.

She met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to further strengthen UK- Nigeria relations and sought commitments on using Nigerian resources effectively to reduce poverty.

The secretary also visited rural communities in Kaduna state.

PoliticsNSCDC Deploys 19,997 Personnel, Mobile Surveillance Vehicles, Sniffer Dogs by dapelua(op): 1:19am On Jul 11, 2018
:- 19,997 personnel, mobile surveillance vehicles and sniffer dogs for Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti state by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)

- The deployment should comprise personnel from the Commands in Osun, Kogi, Edo, Ondo, Kwara, headquarters and other neighbouring states

- Three ACGs, six commandants along with other senior officers from the rank of DCC to ACC below are also deplored to support the DCG Operations

The commandant-general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu, has ordered the deployment of 19,997 personnel, mobile surveillance vehicles and sniffer dogs for Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti state.

The directive is contained in a statement by the Corps Public Relations Officer, DCC Emmanuel Okeh, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.

Okeh reported the commandant-general as giving the order while addressing the Deputy Commandant- General in charge of Operations, Hillary Madu Kelechi, on the need for effective deployment of personnel to cover all parts of the state before, during and after the election.

He said the deployment should comprise personnel from the commands in Osun, Kogi, Edo, Ondo, Kwara, headquarters and other neighbouring states for maintenance of peace, law and order.

“In addition to the operational officers deployed, three ACGs, six commandants along with other senior officers from the rank of DCC to ACC below are to support the DCG Operations in supervising the deployment of personnel to critical areas.”

The spokesman said the commandant-general had also approved the deployment of Surveillance/Intelligence Unit, medical and disaster rapid respond team, special forces and other specialised units to boost security in and around the state.

Gana urged the personnel to work in synergy with personnel of sister agencies deployed for the same purposes.

He warned that the corps would not condone any act of indiscipline or sabotage as any personnel found wanting or engaging in any sharp practice would be sanctioned.

He also urged them to be good ambassadors of the corps and be diplomatic in their approach to issues and people during the operation.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that outgoing Ekiti state Governor Ayodele Fayose’s plan to install his deputy, Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka as his successor may have been dealt a big blow as several key members of his party switched support to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

President Muhammadu Buhari received the defectors today at the grand finale of the governorship campaign of Dr Kayode Fayemi, the APC gubernatorial candidate in Saturday July 14’s election, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

PoliticsFG, States Again, Fail To Share May Revenue, Reject Figures Submitted By NNPC by dapelua(op): 1:09am On Jul 11, 2018
- Figures submitted by NNPC for month of May has been rejected by federal and state governments

- The committee was reportedly not satisfied with the revenue figures presented before the committee by the NNPC

- This is the second time the committee has failed to reach an agreement over revenue generated in the month of May

The monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting has again ended in a stalemate as federal and state governments reject the revenue figures submitted by NNPC for May.

One of the finance commissioners, who did not want to be named told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the committee was still not satisfied with the revenue figures presented before the committee by the NNPC.

The commissioner said that the committee agreed to postpone the meeting to Thursday, to give NNPC a chance to make adjustments.

NAN reports that this is the second time the committee has failed to reach an agreement over revenue generated in the month of May.

It would be recalled that a meeting was convened on June 27, which was inconclusive.

According to the chairman, forum of finance commissioners, Mr Mahmoud Yunusa, it was due to discrepancies in revenue remittances by the NNPC.

NAN recalls that on June 28, the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, confirmed that FAAC ended in a deadlock because the figures proposed by the NNPC were unacceptable.

“For the purpose of this briefing, we operate NNPC as a business.

“We have invested public capital in that business and we have expectations of return and when that return falls lower than our expectations, then the owners of the business, which in this case is the Federal Government and states need to act.

“So, that was what caused the deadlock and we really felt the figures that the NNPC proposed for FAAC were unacceptable.

“We felt that some of the costs could not be justified and so we have decided that rather than approve the accounts, we will go back and do further work.’’

After the meeting, the director of information in the Ministry of Finance, Hassan Dodo, told journalists that the meeting ended inconclusive and had been rescheduled for another date, but he didn't give a reason why no conclusion could be reached by the committee.

Nairaland GeneralDid You Know A Nigerian Man Played A Major Role In A 1979 Hollywood Movie? by dapelua(op): 1:09am On Jul 07, 2018
Did you know a Nigerian man played a major role in a 1979 Hollywood movie? It was a horror movie and not one of those ones where the black man is the first to die. He was the villain and he even became one of cinema's most feared villains.

The seven feet and two inches tall Nigerian man was perfect for the role of the feared villain Alien because of his height. Bolaji Badejo was born on August 23, 1953, in Lagos, Nigeria. He was the second child of Victor and Elizabeth Badejo.

Victor Badejo was the first indigenous director general of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and he was also a welfare administrator. He and his wife Elizabeth had six children, Akin, Bolaji, Debo, Posi, Boyega and Deji.

In 1972, Victor Badejo retired as director general of NBC after working there for twenty years. He packed up his family and relocated to Ethiopia, where 19-year-old Bolaji spent his time in learning fine arts.

After three years in Ethiopia, the family moved to England, where Bolaji was scouted for the movie titled Alien. On getting to England, Bolaji decided to further his studies in graphic design.

According to BBC, Movie Director Rideley Scott and his associate producer Ivor Powell were searching for the man with the right height to play the iconic villain, they had considered basketball players, mime artists and even Peter Mayhew who played Chewbacca but none of them were the perfect fit for their imagination.

The movie's casting agent Peter Ardram had bumped into Bolaji at a pub in Soho, London. A meeting was arranged for Bolaji to meet the director and the 7 feet Nigerian man became one of the most feared villains in the cinematic world.

In an interview with Cinefantastique, Bolaji revealed that he had to do some physical training to perfect his role. He took mime classes, learning to move according to the director's wishes.

Bolaji said: "The idea was that the creature was supposed to be graceful as well as vicious, requiring slow, deliberate movements."

The Nigerian actor also revealed that the costume designed by Giger and special effects artist, Carlo Rambaldi, was very uncomfortable. He said he could barely see what was going on around him.

He said: "I could barely see what was going on around me, except when I was in a stationary position, while they were filming. Then there were a few holes I could look through... It was terribly hot... I could only have it on for about 15 or 20 minutes at a time. When I took it off, my head would be soaked."

All the hard work put into the costume and the amazing performance of Bolaji made the right impression. Bolaji told Cinefantastique that actress Veronica Cartwright was genuinely scared of him in one of the scenes.

Bolaji said: "I remember having to kick Yaphet Kotto, throw him against the wall, and rush up to him. Veronica Cartwright was really terrified. After I fling Yaphet Kotto back with my tail, I turn to go after her, there’s blood in my mouth, and she was incredible. It wasn’t acting. She was scared.”

Associate producer Ivor Powell noted that they knew the Alien played by Bolaji was going to be a hit. He said: "We knew we were dealing with an iconic baddie. Whether anybody else did was another matter."

He added: "I wonder if Bolaji knew how important the role was... Perhaps he did after the event. I doubt it at the time."

After the Alien premier, the movie that was produced with a $11 million budget grossed $100 million and even won an Academy Award for Allder, Giger and their team for Best Visual Effects.

In 1980, a year after the movie premiered, Bolaji moved back to Nigeria to join his uncle a well known sculptor Omotayo Aiyegbusi and in 1983, he opened his own art gallery.

The iconic star got married and welcomed his children Bibi and Yinka in the 80s. Months after he clocked 39, Bolaji fell sick and died of sickle anaemia at St. Stephen Hospital in Ebute Metta, on December 22, 1992.

Bolaji Badejo was described as someone who always wanted to make an impact and he truly did make his impact through the movie Alien, a role he didn't plan on playing.

PoliticsPDP Considers Legal Action Against Asset Seizure Executive Order by dapelua(op): 12:38am On Jul 07, 2018
- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it was considering a legal action against President Buhari's executive order.

- President Muhammadu Buhari had recently signed an asset seizure executive order

- PDP described the asset seizure Executive Order as total disregard to the provisions of 1999 constitution.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) On Friday, July 6, in Abuja, said it was considering a legal action against asset seizure executive order imposed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

PDP in a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan described the order as illegal, unconstitutional, reprehensible and a dangerous step towards a descent to fascism, News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The party described the asset seizure executive order as total disregard to the provisions of 1999 constitution.

“Already, our lawyers are considering a legal action against the Federal Government on the illegality of Mr. president’s action in the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.’’

The party said that the Nigerian constitution did not, under any section, confer such fascist powers on the president under democracy.

It said that there could be no legitimate latitude of interpretation placed on sections 5 and 15 (5) of the 1999 Constitution cited as justifications for the executive order.

PDP said that the president unilateral executive order was a travesty of justice and rule of law “as it vehemently seeks to hijack and usurp the powers of both the legislature and the courts’’.

It added that the president also vest to take the power on himself in order to use it at will, as a political instrument, to haunt, traumatize, harass and victimize perceived political opponents.

“Mr president wants to change our democratic governance to a military regime, in line with his lamentation, two days ago, that the fight against corruption will be better under a military regime than under a democracy.

“It is instructive to emphasize that the PDP is not in any way opposed to the fight against corruption.

“Rather, the party holds that the imposition of this executive order, which is radically at variance with the provisions of the constitution, is totally unacceptable.

“PDP takes this Executive Order 6 of 2018 as a re-enactment of the obnoxious Decree 2 of 1984, which incidentally was also an enactment under then military head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari.

“This must not be permitted in our current democratic dispensation.’’

PDP said that if the order was allowed, it would confer limitless powers on Mr president.

“In a democracy, the role of the executive arm of government is to enforce court orders/judgments handed down based on the interpretation of existing laws.

“Any suggestion to the contrary, as clearly intended by this executive order, is totally an aberration and inconsistent with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.’’

The party urged the judiciary and the legislature to save Nigeria by rejecting the executive order.

“Nigeria is a democratic state run by the dictates of the law and the constitution and not by the rule of the thumb of any elected officer,” it added.

PoliticsBe Patient With My Leadership - Oshiomhole Begs Reformed APC Members by dapelua(op): 5:09am On Jul 05, 2018
Adams Oshiomhole begged those aggrieved in the APC to be patient

- He said he knew of the party's challenges before he took over

- He asked them to trust his new leadership

Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the All Progressives (APC) has reiterated his appeal to aggrieved members of the party to be patient with his leadership, in an apparent response to the emergence on Wednesday of a rebel group, Reformed APC(R-APC)

“My appeal to all those who are aggrieved is to be patient,” Oshiomhole said.

Oshiomhole spoke to newsmen after receiving the report of the party’s just concluded National Convention Appeal Panel Committee’s report on Wednesday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alhaji Buba Galadima who is the National Chairman of the Reformed APC, announced its formation at a news conference at the Sheraton Hotels in Abuja on Wednesday.

“The assurance is that under my leadership, we will make honest mistakes and once our attention is drawn, we will find courage to make up for our mistake.

“Some people say how can people eat their words, for me, I will eat my words if it is nutritious enough and if that is what I have to do to have peace in the family,” Oshiomhole said.

He expressed appreciation to members of the party for his election and for entrusting with him, the responsibility to pilot the party’s affairs at this time.

He acknowledged that he knew of the party’s challenges before accepting the task, saying that it was a huge opportunity for him and other newly elected executives of the party to make a difference.

This, Oshiomhole said, was not only for the party, but for the country generally.

“So, I appeal to people to realise that a blind man can redeem his eyes if he applies the correct medication, but you can’t force it to open overnight,” he said.

He added that forcing the eyes to open overnight, would create more problems and damage the eye the more.

The APC national chairman maintained that he would do everything possible to sustain confidence and trust, adding that everybody was important in the party.

He also said that everybody in the party matters, adding that he would run an inclusive party.

“I pray for wisdom and courage and I believe that we have it and we will deploy it for peace within the APC family, Oshiomhole said.

NAIJ.com had reported that a new faction broke away from the All progressives Congress (APC) and has called itself the Reformed All Progressives Congress (RAPC)

According to Sahara Reporters, the new faction is the same as the new Peoples Democratic Party which joined the APC in the build-up to the 2015 general elections.

Buba Galadima who is the former national secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change and an ally to President Muhammadu Buhari was named the new chairman of the group.

PoliticsPDP Planned A Lifetime Of Greed But We Moved To Reform The Economy - Tinubu by dapelua(op): 9:03am On Jun 24, 2018
Chief Bola Tinubu accused the PDP of plotting to loot the economy for 50 years
- He said the APC came to correct their anomalies
- The APC chieftain said many people though the formation of the party would not last
The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Bola Tinubu has reportedly accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of plotting to loot the country’s treasury for 60 years.
The Punch reports that the former Lagos state governor’s allegation was contained in a goodwill message released on Saturday, June 23 after the party’s convention.

Tinubu said many people were against the formation of the APC and did all they could to stop the merger.
He alleged that the doubters forged different tactics to prevent the APC’s formation.
He said: “The doubters who gave APC no chance of existence or of continued survival have gotten their reply in full. Their envious prayers and complaints have been answered in reverse.
“They wanted to see the end of us and our pursuit of good governance for Nigeria. You should not forget, as I shall never forget, the strong efforts they made to stop us in the courts.
“There were twelve cases brought trying to stop us from merging, from registering the new party, then attempting to bar our candidate from the election.
“Lacking the courage to face the democratic will of the people, they tried to misuse the courts as a weapon against democracy.
“We thank the judiciary for following the letter and spirit of the constitution by dismissing this dirty dozen of malicious cases filed against us.
“With their schemes foiled, those who tried to destroy us must bear witness to the destruction of their edifice of corrupt governance and their dreams of unjust domination of our nation.
“While they planned a lifetime of greedy enrichment by looting the people’s resources and the public treasury for 60 years, we moved to reform the economy to bring development and aid to the poor. ”
“When they hoisted the standard of bias, we raised the flag of justice and the chevron of fairness.”
Meanwhile, Tinubu pledged his support for President Muhammadu Buhari's second term bid, saying that the president deserved a second term in office.

Tinubu, who made the comments in Abuja on Tuesday, June 12, at the investiture of Moshood Abiola in Abuja, said that he would work for Buhari's victory in the 2019 presidential election, Punch reports.
NAIJ.com notes that Tinubu claimed that Nigerians are no longer paying for darkness, giving an indication that electricity supply has become stable under the administration of Buhari.

CareerThings To Know About Airport Cleaner Girl Who Returned Lost N12m In 2015 by dapelua(op): 4:52am On Jun 09, 2018
People like Josephine Ugwu are rare, people who are strong enough to return a huge amount of money that was lost. Ugwu became a Nigerian symbol of integrity in 2015, after she returned N12,000,000 back to it's owner.

The woman who was working as a cleaner at Murtala Muhammed International Airport had stumbled upon a pile of cash while she was cleaning the toilet. The honest woman had returned the money by taking it to the security.

As at 2015, the exchange rate was different and the pile of cash Ugwu found was in dollars ($28,000) which is N10,080,000 at the current exchange rate but then it was a total of N12,000,000.

N12,000,000 or N10,000,000, even the lowest amount of money could be difficult to return for anyone especially for one who doesn't have much to live on. Someone like Ugwu who had been earning N7,800 per month.
What Ugwu did was so honourable, that one has to wonder who she is exactly. What makes her tick? Josephine Ugwu is from Obonkpa in Nsukka local government, Enugu state. She is a national diploma graduate of our Saviour Institute of Science in Enugu.

The life of the 39-year-old who had done what she did just because she believed it was the right thing to do changed drastically. She received rewards from several people who were impressed by her honesty.

1. Honourable

It was discovered that Josephine Ugwu is truly someone with integrity. The incident wasn't the first time she returned a huge sum of money back to it's owner. Ugwu had done the same thing on two different occassions, she was said to have returned N600,000 and N2 million in 2014.

2. Salary Increase

The woman had been rewarded by her employers with a salary increase. Her salary had been increased to N15,000 from N7,800, making it a N7,200 increase.

3. Job offer

She had gotten a job offer to work with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria as an employee in it's commercial department. In her words:"I am in the commercial department. We are in charge of flight landing."

4. Rewards

She had also been rewarded by others who were impressed by what she did. It was gathered that the owner of the money had given her N5,000. She also received a reward from Bishop Mike Okonkwo of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission.

Ugwu had said: "The owner gave the security men about N15,000. I was given N5,000 out of it. One organization gave me N20,000, I also got a freezer."

5. Mockery

Despite becoming a symbol of integrity and honour to many, some Nigerians mocked her for returning the money. They expressed that someone who was living the way she did shouldn't have returned the money back. Others stated that despite what she did the reward did not equal her effort.

A colleague of hers had said: “Some people have abused her and called her a fool for returning the bag. It now looks as if what she did was wrong. Most people will not be motivated to follow her lead when faced with similar situation. The government should have, at least, sent her a commendation letter for what she did.”

Despite the fact that she was mocked, Ugwu expressed that she prefers to make a good name for herself than become rich.

“So, I am telling every Nigerian to be happy in any situation they find themselves. Don’t be faster than your shadow because so many things will go wrong. Sometimes things get bad because people want to be like others. All fingers are not equal. It is true that God promised those who serve him riches, but people should be careful how they go about it. I am telling people to have patience. It is because people want quick money that is why some people become thieves."
