Hey there! Before we start, I want to take a guess, not bad huh? Just because you’re reading this post, you should fall into one of these two categories: You have never started a blog or you may have started one, but the blog didn’t go down well as you expected and over time you have lost the motivation to keep working on it. Did I guess right? I assume I’m right. Grins! Anyway In either case, this post will motivate you to start blogging again. Perhaps I should share a secret why I think it never worked, if you belong to the category of people who lost the motivation. Blessed are you if you have never started – I’m here to guide you, you stand a chance to do it like a pro. This is the truth about blog and blogging: It is like growing a baby, or a tree. It is not a one day task. You have to focus on it every day, in spite of not seeing results immediately. But once it grows to a certain stage, it takes a life of its own and then it keeps growing, with little or no efforts. Blogging is never a sprint, rather a marathon! That’s why I advise folks to blog on what they are passionate about – that is what keeps you going at the early stage. I want to share 7 things that should motivate you to start or start-again your blog today: Your Writing & Speaking Skills Will Improve Am I the only one who feels very uncomfortable when I hear of all this fund sucking workshop, summit, or conferences on writing or speaking? I always feel angry! Because most time those programs end up leaving you bankrupt and never telling the truth. The only way to get better at writing is to write and write more. I remember the days when I used to write and edit an article several times and I still wouldn’t be satisfied with it. Nowadays most of the blog posts I make are mostly first drafts with just a few edits. I can write better and write faster than ever before. speakerAnother amazing discovery I made is that my speaking skills also improved when I got better at writing! Writing and speaking are not much different because both are about having a consistent flow of thoughts that can get converted into words on a screen or audible words in front of an audience. When you keep writing a lot of content, you learn to organize the thoughts in your mind better and bring it out in a consistent flow. The improvement reflects in speaking. I can talk for hours without preparation in front of an audience if required, that skill has been gained from writing extensively, well not absolutely I must confess. That’s why most published authors are almost always good speakers. They speak naturally and effortlessly even in front of large audiences. When you become a great author, you become a good speaker. When you become a great speaker, you become a good trainer. When you become a great trainer you become a thought leader in your field. Isn’t thought leadership something that we all want? So get writing! ... to continue this piece, kindly use the link below. http://dapsdigital.com/awesome-things-youre-losing-not-blogging/ |
I love recession, it’s an amazing time for me; when I heard in the news that Nigeria was going out of recession I was so unhappy – Kolawole Adeyemi It’s been a while I shared stories in my articles. Here is one I’m so excited about, I hope you get the same feeling as well. Dear reader, in case you’re one of those dreamers like me growing up. Maybe just like the story of Joseph I read in the bible – you have a fair share of dreams, you saw and believe someday the moon and sun will bow to you – now those dreams look like a fairy-tale. You have tried your best, but life seem very difficult. Perhaps this story is all the motivation you need to hang in there. Without mincing words, I’m back to my story. I think I need a cup of tea, I’d better do justice to this. Grins! One this very faithful day, I stepped out of the office to attend to a personal concern. (Forgive my manners I should have told you I was working with a Travel Management Company around Allen, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria at the time) I was already close to the office when I got a beep on my phone, immediately I dashed to my phone and it was the MD herself calling. What could be the issue I wondered? I responded to the call with urgency and the question I got was; where are you? On way back to the office I responded. I got an immediate order to get to the office as soon as I can, there is a Mr. Kolawole Adeyemi waiting for you in the office, he is the General Manager of Avis Rent a Car, (we were partners with Avis – they manage the company’s fleet). I will not be at the office, have a meeting with him, make all necessary arrangement with him as you would be handling the company’s fleets my MD told me. Hurriedly I stepped into the office and I met this gentle, calm, and lovable man waiting for me. I was told he was the GM, but every appearance of him look too simple to be, he was always wearing a smile. In a nutshell, this was how I met Mr. Kolawole Adeyemi. Little did I know that buried inside that smiling man is an amazing person with an inspirational story. continue this article here: http://dapsdiary.com/meet-mr-kolawole-adeyemi/ I bet, you will be glad to know more about this astute entrepreneur and how he built his business empire.

Easter is just that moment when many Christians consider sacred just because of the belief and reality of a savior that died for them, above all rose from the grave. To so many others, it is just a moment to feed on chickens, eggs and chocolate. I still see some little few that it is just a moment of holiday – good time to relax with friends and family. Regardless of your views and worldview about Easter, permit me to tell you the most amazing facts you probably do not know exist about Easter. Let’s take a ride: Christians celebrate Easter as the day Christ rose from the grave, but he wasn’t the only one: Easter is a Christian holiday celebrating the day Jesus Christ rose from the grave following his crucifixion on Good Friday. According to Matthew 28, on the third day after Christ’s death, an angel of the Lord came down from heaven to the tomb, rolled back the heavy stone that had been placed in front to prevent Christ’s disciples from moving his body. The guards fainted, and Jesus left the grave, heading towards Galilee to meet up with his disciples. We all know the story. What you might probably not note is that according to the Bible, when Christ came back to life he didn’t come alone. In Matthew 27:52-53 the Bible says, “and the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.” That part of the scripture is not a metaphor – yes Daps says so. Easter falls on a different day every year due to the Vernal Equinox: Every year Easter falls on a different day, and you can blame the moon for that. Christ’s death coincides with the Jewish Passover, which is celebrated during the first full moon after the vernal equinox, better known as the first day of spring. The rule was set for the Christian church by the Council of Nicaea, stating that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox. This should explain to you why we have Easter in March a year and April the next year, no one knows when the one for 2018 would come. Peter probably didn’t hear a rooster crow three times In the story of Jesus’ final days, Christ told his disciple Peter “before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.” Later that evening Peter is recognized as one of Christ’s disciples, only to claim he never knew the man. Just then he hears the rooster crow, hanging his head in shame. There’s just one singular problem with this story: Chickens and roosters were not allowed to be raised in Jerusalem at the time. According to the Mishnah... to continue this piece use this link: http://dapsdiary.com/amazing-facts-easter/ |
Entrepreneurial Revolution I still believe is the solution to the problem faced with Nigeria and Africa. That is the solution we have always sort. Sequel to this, I’m starting up a sponsored series where I host great entrepreneurs and their businesses. I believe reading these stories will go a long way to motivate and encourage upcoming entrepreneurs to keep up the uphill – such a lonely and boring place to be. In this episode, I’ll love you to meet someone interesting, I have personally met this man in the city of Jos, at some point I have deliberately identified with his brand – you know great innovation when you see it, that’s my story with him. He is no other person than the winner of the prize for Innovation Award Etisalat Nigeria Ltd, 2015 – Mr. Obi Brown. Obi Brown is the CEO and co-founder of Insight Africa, An award winning startup using technology to improve African students’ competence in math and the sciences. He is a young entrepreneur on an upward trend and regularly helps other young entrepreneurs make measurable progress in their entrepreneurial journey. Mr. Brown is utterly passionate about education. for more of this info: http://dapsdiary.com/meet-obi-brown-ceo-insight-africa/ Little wonder his startups bags the Prize for Innovation Award Etisalat Nigeria Ltd October 2015. The Prize for Innovation Award is given for an innovative product launched within 12 months of the year of the award. Insight Africa is also the Samsung Prize Winner for British Council Enterprise Competition, March 2016. I got an opportunity to meet Mr. Obi Brown to give more info about his startup and here was what he had to say: Like farmers on the African continent, there is a need for extension workers to help improve output, I believes science teachers need a network of support personnel and resources to help improve STEM Education outcomes. Education on the continent needs a boost. Science education needs a thrust else developing economies will always be just that. After moving from secondary school to the university as a ‘good student’ I started university life with a few E’s in first year science. Over the years I’ve found that this phenomenon is a recurring reality for the vast majority of students. My hope is to reverse this. ‘To give them a better leg up’. So, I founded a company called Insight Africa and the team at IA crafted a product called StudyLab. Through StudyLab, We’ve had schools report a 40% improvement in math scores and a public school report a 98% pass rate in national exams in math. We’re focusing on expanding these outcomes and reaching more students around Nigeria and Africa. In September 2015, Etisalat gave us a prize for innovation and a few months after, The British Council, along with Virgin Atlantic and Samsung West Africa gave us another award. The federal government of Nigeria also recently awarded us a grant for our work under the Aso Villa Demo Day (AVDD) in collaboration with the Growth and Empowerment Programme (GEM), a World Bank and FGN initiative. These have been interesting times for us at Insight Africa. |
With the attacks in the northeast region of Nigeria, the silent brawl between herdsmen and natives and other forms of donnybrooks, RELIGION has now 'stolen the show' in a way that has not occurred before in our lifetime; extraordinary atrocities are being committed in the name of God, while natural calamities and man-made disasters claim thousands of lives every year. The human race is forced to wrestle with great questions: how can there be so much suffering in the world, what are we becoming as humans voluntarily assuming the animal nature and what kind of a god could let such things happen? God On Trial attempts to look at some of the most perplexing metaphysical issues, but it is also a drama about what keeps the human spirit alive even when faced with the worst suffering and impending death. Christmas is no doubt a moment of fun, it comes towards the end of a calendar and financial year which is a good moment to have fun with family and friends, but it also come with a bad side – overspending! After a hardworking year, it is usual and normal to spend not just time with family and loved ones but also spend some good cash. How else can one have a good time without spending? Unemployment is on the high side this year, inflation is high, Nigeria my country is going through a recession, savings are very low and it seem as if there is no way to go about Christmas. I’m very sure that won’t stop so many from spending big during the yuletide. Starting a new year on a “broke” note is becoming a norm for Nigerians – because of the height if overspending at Christmas – this year we can change the tides. Before getting carried away with the fun the season brings, before splashing money and sending gifts everywhere – there is a gift you should give yourself first and that is “restraint”. Here are some tips going about that: Have a Budget Having a budget goes a long way to plan your spending during the yuletide season. Before the holiday season of merriment, feasting and shopping begins, it is expedient you decide how much you want to spend. Your budget should be broken down into categories of necessities according to their scale of preferences – this will help major and what is important and help ignore what is less important. Stick to Budget As good as having a budget is, it becomes so useless when the discipline to stick to the lists is missing. Avoiding overspending at Christmas demand a huge deposit of discipline. Just after your budget, it is good to note that some other seemingly important things will be left out of the lists – hence there is a need to be disciplined. Having a budget will make you miss out of some things and you have to make up your mind to let go – you just might not be able to have the usual hangout with some friends as usual, you just might have to find somewhere not that expensive this year for family vacation. It is just the price to pay. Limit Self-gifting Ironically one trend that seem to remain on the increase over the years is “self-gifting” People tend to overspend on themselves during Christmas than ever. The culture a while ago is to buy things for people – it is a season of giving, but people nowadays give but to themselves more. You must be careful of this trend and limit yourself in this regard, it will help you avoid overspending during Christmas. Christmas Is About Giving, Not Buying Christmas is worth celebrating because of the gift of Christ to humanity, so we must be conscious of the fact that it is about giving, being thankful, and making others joyful. I’m aware of the temptation of buying things for yourself – you just must caution yourself not to. It is not just about buying things for yourself but giving to people – trust me, there are a million and one things you can also give without having to buy. Doing this will help avoid overspending outside budget. Make Your Own Gifts The idea about gifts during Christmas is to show some love, not just buying and people are always touched by that singular act. Before you go on Jumia, Konga, Amazon or visit Shoprite buying expensive gifts which may lead you out of budget, you should get creative about those gifts – something handmade will be perfect. Why not bake a cake, make your own hamper, make dinner and invite friends over. Just do something creative and good while having fun with loved ones Curb Expectations Early Sticking to budget will simply imply that you will cut down on the number of Christmas gifts and expenses this holiday. Sequel to this, it is important to establish some expectations early. For example, many of us have the culture of travelling home to spend time with family – that is a big deal because the usual culture is to come home big, it’s just thanksgiving. For our kids at Christmas – they are familiar with demanding high during Christmas as usual. I suggest you find a way to curb those expectations, for the kids it could just be a meeting explaining why some things cannot be done as usual this year. Track Spending One greatest component to wise financial stewardship is the ability to track spending on a regular basis – best daily. Avoiding overspending at Christmas will go a long way to set you in pace for the year ahead. That was why my first tip was to have a budget and secondly to stick to that budget, however there are exceptions to this, some unforeseen expenses may arise, hence there is a need to track how much you spend to keep you in shape. Avoiding overspending at Christmas may appear difficult but I believe possible. It would only require being disciplined, prudent and some efforts. Here is the idea, if you can avoid overspending at Christmas, by January you’ll appreciate me for it. Have a lovely Christmas and holiday – cheers! Starting a small business in itself is a huge and difficult task, it becomes more difficult in a tough and slow economy, especially in a recession. When an economy is experiencing recession it simply mean without mincing words that such economy is broke. This cause a ripple effect on everybody in the economy. We all know what pose a threat to most small business startups is finance. Sequel to this I encourage anybody with the intention to start a small business to have a good business plan, you must know what you need to get started and how you want to go about starting the business. I won’t be mincing words to say that entrepreneurs will have to work very hard to find their startup finance, you must know how much you need to start, know your cash projections, know the volume of sales you must make to break-even, how much personal money to invest, know when to allow the business carter for itself, know the price that will make you break-even and if it is competitive, evaluate to know your sales projections are feasible and realistic, how much will be your operating costs, above all what you need to do to make a profit. Starting up a small business can be so difficult and stressful, reason why most people do not want to create one, but rather look for those who have created one and seek an employment. The truth is that it is almost impossible to create wealth living on salaries alone. I think I need to emphasize that every human should be an entrepreneur in the 21st century, regardless of who you are or what your profession is. If it lacks economic content, it just won’t go far. A doctor must see himself as an entrepreneur – it is that simple, a doctor cannot efficiently manage an hospital, but a doctor that is an entrepreneur. If you have the intention or idea to start up a small business, especially when you are in a rough economy or a recession like Nigeria my beloved country is going through now, then consider the tips below, it sure will help: Seek Advice I tell people with the intention to start a small business or whichever business that capital or finance is not the first thing to worry about. It saddens my heart to discuss with young minds about business and the first thing they ask is where will I get capital? This is what I tell young aspiring entrepreneurs like myself: Get an idea first, a marketable and economic idea. This is the first task for starting a small business, and where many startups fail. Before worrying about capital or finance, have an idea and a business plan, then seek advice from professionals ahead. You can ask: A friend or relative that owns his or her own business An accountant or business analyst Your mentor or someone who have done what you want to do before or something close. The reason this is imperative is that they must help you review your plans to see if there are no unrealistic targets or vague ideas. You must be sure you are not missing out something crucial and might hinder the growth of the business if not planned for. Source Capital This is the biggest part for most entrepreneurs starting a small business, their usual complaints is where do I get the capital from? To me I think it is not something to bother about, it is the easiest thing to do. What is most important to me is to have a well reviewed and approve business plan. I was shocked in my final year in school studying business when Professor S.S. Maimako now the VC of the University of Jos, took us a course called “Principle of Finance”, one thing I cannot forget about the course, as much as I do not have strong interest in finance is this: “He said all business must borrow”, borrowing sometimes is more profitable than financing with earned income. He taught us that most reputable organizations borrow not because they do not have but borrowing seem the best options – I enjoyed that course. Please take a loan, micro finance banks still gives loans to good business ideas. I am one person who do like taking loans – I detest it so much, but professionally, I have realized that it cannot be done without. Entrepreneurs must have personal savings, meet family and friends for loans. Bootstrapping is another part of finance that is key. Hello folks, I trust you are doing fine. I can’t hide my passion for my nation and continent – I hate the thought of the reality that we are backward. It grieves me badly, maybe I will a little relieved the day it is proven scientifically that there is something such as a black brain. My passion spreads into humans because I have learnt that; if you want to fix a city – fix the humans. Humans are capital enough to bring about any desired change in the society. Current Nigeria is faced with looming economic recession, my passion to not just to live above it, but also to make everybody around me live above it. I am on my quest to create wealth and i want to have friends thread this path with me, this led to a six part series I wrote on my thoughts on the economic recession in Nigeria, If you have not read that series – you should, I strongly recommend you do. As good and engaging as those articles are, I realized it did not touch the everyday life of people – that angle should never be overlooked. So I thought I should share some tips on how to live above recession. This should help people on choices they make on a daily basis. Here are the tips: Reduce Expenses: It is Just as simple as it sound, to live above recession you must reduce expenses to the barest minimum. Never use a credit card, stop eating outside – cook at home, monitor your spending, walk short distances than drive, spend more time at home with family and friends, buy important and needed things alone. You can’t keep your expenses level the same during a recession and desire to live above recession. Increase savings: This concept really does not appeal to the ear, It sound very illogical, but it is very true. Recession definitely bring with it high and increasing inflation rate – yet one must also still save and even more for emergency needs. It becomes easy only when you have reduced cost, every of those reductions should be converted to savings. Saving should be constant in and out of recession, but there are more emphases on it to live above recession. As hard and inconsequential the income, you must save and if you have done 10% before, jack it up some more. Identify Other Means of Income: It is not enough to cut down on your expenses alone during a recession, you must be able to identify other streams of income, you must be ready create utility and meet a need – we must learn to turn our hobbies into profitable business ideas that can liven the sick economy. Better-still look out for investments to engage your saving. Savings are useless if it cannot reproduce itself. Inflation rates destroys static savings. Track your Expenses: On a daily basis you must be able to track all your expenses, it is normal to be frugal in spending during a recession. At this point you must put your daily income side-by-side your expenses. Your daily income should determine what your daily expenses should look like. Check out for mobile apps that can help you track your daily budget, this will help you live above recession. Remove Unnecessary Expectations: We must learn to be open and sincere about our financial life especially to our immediate family. We must let them know our income level and how things are hard. This will help you reduce demands and expectations from immediate family and friends. Stop forming as if you earn double what you earn – learn to be sincere enough. Just Keep Breathing: Finally you must keep breathing – as long as you keep doing that I can assure you that recession will be a thing of the past. Take good care of yourself, worry less, keep fit, eat healthy food, and remain happy. Health they say is wealth. Thanks for sharing this piece with me, I am Daps, a passionate writer - I believes the only revolution Nigeria can experience is Economic and not Political. I have written very inspiring articles on his dairy http://dapsdiary.com/ You should visit. I love, I care. Remember that: life is designed to defeat the weak. |
Recession in Nigeria, how it all began, and necessary lessons to learn from this tough and hard time in Nigeria. The word recession is probably the most trending word in Nigeria today, not just because we choose to mouth it, or because we hear it in news every day, but because of the reality it puts before us – it is not just a word. We say Nigeria is in a recession, what exactly does recession mean? Maybe I can help; It is a significant decline in economic activities – without mincing words, it means Nigeria is broke. But are we truly broke? Economic expects have said that a recession means there is a decrease in these economic indicators: real GDP, Income, Employment, Manufacturing, and retail sales. The finance minister of Nigeria Kemi Adeosun made it known that the economic situation in Nigeria is in “its worst possible time” We must also note that economic recession is experienced when aggregate spending both by consumers, investors or even the governments decreases below required economic activities and necessities. Recession doesn’t happen overnight, it comes with signs and warnings over time. It started during the previous administrations, what these administrations did was to bury and ignore every signs. What was more important to the GEJ administration was the transitional activities – not even when signs became more prominent during an election year. The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Professor Charles Soludo stated clearly in 2003 when the price of crude oil was above $100 per barrel that the price of the crude is decreasing and a recession was inevitable, even the former Minister of Finance Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in 2014 advised the government to buckle up and prepare for a possible recession. These people were actually termed prophets of doom, and all call to actions were ignored. The election loss of the GEJ administration plunged Nigeria further into the recession today. The national Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released a report on the Nigeria’s economy in the second quarter, this report showed that oil price has crashed to less than $50 per barrel; production output tumbled over 400,000 barrels, thanks to the Niger-Delta Avenger. So the oil production crashed to 1.62 from 2.11 million barrels per day in the second half of 2016. This left inflation rate shrinking at 17.1%, black market dollar rate fluctuating between NGN 465-470 to a dollar. Nigeria right now is just in shambles. What implication does this recession have on Nigeria and what do we need to learn? It is simple, we did not provide for a day such as this – we did not save when we had excess, we failed to build infrastructures, we have nothing to drive the economy – not even electricity. This led to me to the second thought I’ll be sharing soon, aimed at showing Nigerians how to live above recession. I’ll be sharing a principle I call the “FIELD and FLOCK” principle – got this principle from the Holy Book, it promises to be revealing and engaging. To rise above recession, we must first learn our lessons, and then pay the price to build Nigeria. This thought is one that is really dear to my heart because I have seen and felt directly the impact of recession, many of my friends and family have got retrenched, for those who still have their jobs; their earnings probably can’t pay their bills like me. NB: This thought is a series on myations/. HINT: Economic Revolution is the only solution to economic recession we are facedIf this post is worth the read, see to it you share with friends using the icon below – someone may need to read this too. Donald Trump the US president elect is a marketing guru, one who knows how to sell anything. Anyone who runs away from the fact that Donald Trump is highly intelligent only denies reality, hence is worthy to be a fool. This victory is the most astonishing victories in the history of the American politics, it will surely leave millions in the US and world over in shock, disgruntled and wondering how did Donald Trump do it and what lies ahead? Donald Trump is the first reality TV star to win the nomination for president of a major political party, the first also to spend part of his campaign denying sexual assault allegations; he is also the oldest person in history to be elected the US president at 70. Who would have thought that a man that was publicly rude, spoke anyhow to people, who had the media against him – CNN can win an election in the US? I almost also had doubts, at a point I could bet that Hillary would win. I felt Trump has gone too far, I was wrong. Against all odds, buried in my mind was an assurance that Donald Trump is not a fool. Donald Trump started his campaign with A SINGLE MESSAGE – copied from the Ronald Reagan’s promise to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN; with those four words this man was able to capture the timid and bold, the optimism and pessimism. The slogan harks back to a supposed golden age of greatness that was lost and then promise to restore. There was nothing profound from his rival Hillary Clinton’s website manifesto. continue reading here: http://dapsdiary.com/donald-trump/ |

Recession in Nigeria, how it all began, and necessary lessons to learn from this tough and hard time in Nigeria, most especially how live independent of the recession - is all you can expect from this piece. The election loss of the GEJ administration plunged Nigeria further into the recession today....http://dapsdiary.com/ecoonomic-recession/ |
