You are wrong. Apple currently uses AMOLED screen (manufactured & supplied by Samsung) for their phone displays.
It was used first on the iPhone X

the iPhone 11 has a LCD panel while the 11 pros have an Amoled panel

Y'all should show some love to Samsung cheesy, they make some of our camera sensors, they make nearly all the memory (RAM) in all the devices that use RAM in this world. Only 3 manufacturers make all DRAM chips in the world

Check over the internet Note 8 pro has overheating issues
Despite the inbuilt cooling system

Mine does not overheat, so it is not a general problem, and frankly, when you run benchmarks on the internals you'll discover that the temperature on the chip is usually 3 - 5 degrees lower than the back of the phone (that heat pipe does its Job well, like heatsinks on PCs)

The hottest my CPU has run is 49 degrees, after hours of surfing/gaming on a hot day.....
That falls within the normal range of mobile processors (40 - 50 degrees)

bear in mind that all 8 cores are unthrottled when you do anything tasking on the processor.

Now even if 50,000 units of the RN8 pro are actually overheating, that is still an acceptable rate of failure for a mass produced electronic product

MTK processors are shitty

Same issue with the best MTK on the Note 8 pro. With the overheating issue

what note 8 pro?

MTK processors are not all shitty, they've just been developer unfriendly due to the fact that finding complete kernel sources has been rare.

And complete Kernel sources were dumped for the RN8 pro (https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-redmi-note-8-pro-custom-rom-kernel-developers/)

Take note also of where the RN8 pro ...sprinted through maxed-out gaming sessions with very good efficiency, good heat dissipation, and no signs of thermal throttling

overheating issues....... with that dedicated heatsink over the cpu......... that thing was designed to run cool

But we are still complaining now

But I'm sure a Super Amoled would have bested the washed out display on the k30.

Have you held the display in your hands......

RT.

Colours especially black is better on AMOLED though but resolution matters too. 720p on AMOLED is a No-No for me especially on 6.2+" phone while I'm cool with 1080p on IPS LCD. Someone said "only the display ruined the entire phone." LOL. and Samsung A20s is not entirely ruined?

Blacks are blacker on Amoled, whites are whiter on LCDs
Amoled produces often oversaturated colors, LCDs reproduce colors more naturally,
There are many variations of amoled(amo, super, dynamic....) and LCD(TFT, IPS, TN, VA, SegCode).

Amoled panels are usually thinner than LCD panels (no need for extra backlighting layer)

In the end it's all subjective..............

For example, competitive gamers favour LCD panels (TN) because they offer the best response times

Amoled is important because nowadays people use their gadgets to do all sorts. Entertainments, etc

oled tvs still make up a small fraction of TVs right now

Good day all,

Please is there anyone here who has used iphone and now using Android? Am stuck on which to get, though have been an android user all through and am thinking of trying ios. But what significant advantage does iphone has over android and vice versa.

There is no significant advantage of IOS over android per-say. Apple is famous for being able to squeeze out every last drop of performance from it's hardware while Android devices compensate for the generic OS by using beefier hardware, Generally the android OS is preferable if you're not planning to go full on into the apple(iPhone/mac) ecosystem

Bottom line, it's a mater of preference these days, and your pocket.

Personally, for most users, I say that money you want to use to get the iPhone, get the best android device you can for that price except you really wanna use the iPhone.

I own devices running both operating systems (I'm a software engineer and sometimes whip up mobile apps).

Also, generally the android ecosystem is more open to customization n tweaking: rooting android phones is generally more straight forward than jailbreaking iPhone and there's tonnes more you can tweak on your Android device

From a technical point of view tho...... IOS was well thought of right from the beginning and has more robust underlying implementations, while android was a mess till marshmallow when things started cleaning up nicely, devs are happier on both platforms these days tho. smiley

Do you remember the good old days of 3G modems that we connect to our computers via the USB port? I guess MiFis and Wireless Routers are slowly replacing them. Even the Hotspot feature on our phones is making the need for an extra device to get our computer online less.

In this video I picked up my old Glo Modem from 2010 and tried to hook it up to my Macbook Pro. See how it goes here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTNRyvIwGBU

I'm on OSX catalina, win 10, and Ubuntu 18.04 my airtel and no name 3g modem sticks still work fine.

Probably something's up with that stick?

I just got redmi note 8 4/64 from pointek warri. The phone is way better than my former infinix phone. My only issue is the screen bleeding just like in this video(3:29) Is it normal to have that kind of screeen bleeding in redmi note 8?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rI8nj7XkQac

The bleeding (blurring) around the notch is what you get when you start contorting IPS panels.
There's a setting to hide (darken the area around) the notch.

It's a problem only if its very obvious

Abeg wetin xiaomi techincians dey smoke naw, shey dem say na for only armoled screen, were those amoled people oya una shakara d end. grin grin grin

The only con to an always-on display on an IPS panel is entire panel will be back-lit vs Amoled displays where the black portions of the display will have pixels in those portions turned off (this improves contrast on black backgrounds), there will be a greater hit on the battery life of the device with an IPS panel, although intelligent back-lighting can be employed to alternate the luminescence of the IPS display based on its state, minimizing the power drain delta.

True, but you already know which one looks better. Let's not escalate this argument.

cool Right you are, content in dark themes definitely pop more on oled/amoled displays.

PotatoSalad:

I just summarised everything you said in one sentence.

Not quite, I do not agree that dark themes are boring on LCDs that incorporate the IPS technology, as with most things in this space, it is highly subjective.
Phones / Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by DaRkSkOpE: 12:27am On Dec 03, 2019
PotatoSalad:

Dark theme is boring on devices with IPS display.

Drops Mic

Not necessarily, it depends on the quality of the IPS panel, and although Amoled screens will achieve deeper blacks (due to the fact that each pixel lights up individually and turns completely off to achieve black vs the led back-lit IPS panel), still patterns sustained for extended lengths of time can cause burn-ins where afterimages become persisted due to the decay of the individual Light Emitting Diodes decaying at variable rates....

IPS (in-plane switching) panels are also rated as the easiest to read off of.

Hmmmmm If at any point I made it seem like my motive here is to drive away potential customers. I apologise sincerely, I hate apologising but sometimes it's good to be the better man. I have never intended to chase away anyone or potential customers. All I wanted to do was enquire and share my little knowledge . And also draw light to the fact that Xiaomi is not a perfect brand. And most importantly stop the others from demeaning other brands. I avoid insults in the same way it will be very heartbreaking for me to chase away potential customers. I only point out what I see necessary. Xiaomi irrespective of my comments is a good brand. Even though I have not used it the praises are enough to tell how good the phones they are producing are. And when I can I will get a MI device. But all my comments from the first up till now. Is not to draw attention away from this thread but to give attention to certain addressable issues. Please clear the misconception

In your bid to draw the light to the fact that Xiaomi is not a perfect brand, you end up coming across in a way that seems that you are demeaning the brand (something you want others to stop doing to other brands).

There is no perfect brand, and there is no guarantee that the unit you get would be a perfectly okay brand (you could get an iPhone, Samsung, Xiaomi, Nokia or Huawei today and have it explode in your pocket tomorrow (and they all have had explosion stories)). That does not mean that the entire brand is defective. When you mass produce commodities, you cannot have 100% efficiency.

When you have a large number of defective devices (the large number of exploding Galaxy note 7 units, the large number of defective Xiaomi M365 scooter units, the millions of Toyotas recalled because of unintended acceleration (killed quite a few people)) that land in the market, a product recall is issued because those defects are atypical (extraordinary) and unacceptable.

This is why Warranty exists.......... to cover defects that are not user inflicted.

Hundreds of thousands of Playstation 3 units were plagued by the yellow light of death anywhere from day 0 to within 3 years of use..... My first two consoles both died within a month of use (the first lasted 9 days). No one else that I knew had a defective unit, that didn't make the PS3 a failure. And Sony went on to sell over 80 million units.

Conservatively, 5% of devices (consumer electronics) are expected to fail (read die!) within the first 365 days and 15% within the first 3 years.

Finally on battery life: https://www.nairaland.com/3092803/xiaomi-thread#45446637

Ikr

But that's a wrong thesis

Not only when a battery discharges when idle that it is a problem. Even when a battery doesn't last up to its normal battery life then its also a problem.

The essence is that there is no "normal" battery life.... Get the maximum power rating of your device and work that against the typical rating of your battery and you'll see it falls far below the "normal" life....
Also bear in mind that as your device ages (months not years), the thermal ratings of components degrade and battery life suffers, also the battery becomes less efficient as more charge cycles accumulate.
