Hello all, I need to comment on the process using the new portal. While some people that have valid US visas found the portal easy. It is not easy for those that dont have a valid IS Visa.

I in particular interacted on that page today trying to fill the form and I got to the stage where the questions of having a valid US Visa and having being in Canada previously came up. I responded 'No' to the question of having a valid US Visa as I dont have one currently but responded 'yes' to the question of being in Canada previously.

After that, I observed that so many questions popped up. In summary, the questions were a combination of questions found in the Family information , Application for Visitor Visa and the Schedule 1- Application for Temporal Residence forms .

At the end, a list of requirements came up and the curious one for me was the request for Proof of Travel exemption . I dont know why that is a requirement because there is a provision for applying for exemption inside the application so why ask for proof again or are they other requirements needed because apart from evidence that one is vaccinated which isnt demanded for in the application,I cant think of other requirements.
Someone should help in clarifying this for me. Thank you

Answer to question 2, 3 and 4.
2-) It's advisable to go with the coloured email copy of the CAQ and original (if the need arises).

3-) You need Employment letters, introductory letter, 3- months payslips, ID card.

4-) Considering you work and earn salary every month end, you need to show funds in your name no matter how small it is. The essence of this is to show your personal financial establishment. Therefore, include a 3-4months for yourself.

thanks boss

Hello "Québecian"

I applied for CAQ march 19th got their email that my application has been approved on 18th of April and a copy has been mailed to my address(I used home address as mailing address). it's been 3weeks now and have not received it.

My questions
1. How many days after approval did you get your mailed CAQ? Did you use home address or office address?

2. I know one can apply for TRV with the email copy of CAQ. but at the point of entry to Canada will they request for original copy?

3. Finished NYSC 2017 MAY. started working early march 2018. And I'm only submitting employment letter and ID CARD. Is that OK?

4. I have less than 50k in my personal SOA should I submit it or just go with my sponsors SOA?

Please help me address all this issue. I'm submitting my TRV this week.

Hello everyone
I am sorry this is coming very late. Better late than never. Thanks for all the transcripts posted here, they've been of good use to silent users like me. I had my interview on Friday, Dec 22. It was a quick one. My transcript goes thus:

VO: Collects my I-20. What are you going to the US for?
Me: I am going for my Ms Food Science at the North Carolina A&T state University.
VO: What is your professional goal?
Me: (Takes a pause, this question was totally unexpected ). I would like to be a professional in food preservation in a bid to apply myself to tackling yhe rising food security issues in a developing country like Nigeria.
VO: Did you write any standardized test?
Me: I didn’t, as it was waived because of my gpa and statement of purpose.
VO: What courses will you be taking?
Me: Nutrition and disease, Food preservation, Hazard analysis and critical control points, Food quality control, etc
VO: How applicable are these courses to your professional goal?
Me: (Almost went dumb) Food preservation is central amongst other factors to achieving food security. The knowledge of Nutrition and quality control ensures nutrition is not compromised in a bid to achieving food preservation.
VO: Who will be sponsoring you?
Me: My dad
VO: What does he do for a living?
Me: (mentions my dad's profession)
VO: Do you have any proof to support his abilities to sponsor you?
Me: Passes my SOA
VO: This is not recent and it's for september
Me: I used this when I applied
VO: Has he ever travelled before?
Me: No, he has had no reason to.
I figured this might be the deciding factor and saw her typing away. I had an assistantship from the school which was not documented on my I-20. At that point, I had to scream at the top of my voice, ma'am! I have an assistantship from the school
VO: oh! This isn't stated on your I-20.
She collected my letter of assistantship and put me on administrative processing.
My start date was Jan 8 and it was a race against time. Visa was eventually approved on Jan 3 and was picked up Friday, Jan 5. I had to travel on Sunday just to enter the US on the 8th. I just spent the first week here in the US and I must confess it's been stressful.
Thanks to God and nairaland for making this a dream come true.

Congrats

please I have some enquiry about the school and the same course. I'm almost through with my application. PM you already

Please!!!!! please!!! please!!, I need urgent answer to this kindly help a brother asap

A friend is going for her Visa interview in two days time. She applied for MS in project management @Morgan state University. on her i20 the course is 5years she called the graduate coordinator and the graduate coordinator said it wasn't a mistake that it's 5years.

My question: kindly help with what she'll say when the VO ask "why 5years?"

Or does it means she can complete the MS degree within 2years but can decide to extend it btw 2 -5years?

3.06 is sounds more accurate

Source : bigfrancis

Our A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D= 2, E = 1 and F =0 on the Nigerian scale and those points are used in our cgpa calculation. To get the 4-point US scale, use their grade point system as follows:

A = 4.0
B(equivalent to their B+) = 3.5,
C(equivalent to their B) = 3.0,
D(equivalent to their C+) = 2.5,
E(equivalent to their C) = 2.0,
F = 0 as usual.

Replace our grade points for each grade on your transcript with the US grrade points given above and recalculate your CGPA normally as you already know how to do, you will get your 4-point US equivalent.

Notice that there are no D and E on the US grading scale and all our Ds and Es are converted to higher-point C+ and C of 2.5 and 2.0 respectively, thus adding more points to your total grade points and boosting your final cgpa by a few points. This explains why WES translation is more favorable to Nigerian applicants than other conversion agencies

wow... nice one there mama. thanks for the correction.

make I calculate my own ASAP

Thank you @slimmy2005 , I used the WES evaluation calculation and it's was 3.06/4.0 ..and I don't even know why they keep arriving at 2.5 and co. Despite the fact that most of the schools exempt Nigeria for TOEFL (meaning they have few Nigerians in the past) . so why are they saying this....

This was the message I got from Southern Illinois University

Dear Seun,

Your application was submitted to the committee for review but, we had no faculty member available to be your major professor and, several of the faculty felt your scores were too low to be successful in this major/degree. I have sent the decision over to the graduate school and they will notify you as well. Thank you, for considering SIUC for your academic future and, I know you will flourish in the right degree with your level of passion. I wish you the best in your academic career.

Mary Dunmyer

your GPA is actually 2.594.
ask me how?

divide your undergraduate CGPA by 5 I.e ( 3.2/5)= 0.648.

0.648 x 4= 2.594. in a scale of 4

some schools require WES Evaluation while some don't. all the schools you applied to doesn't require WES, not sure of WTAMU though.

my opinion!
look for schools that require WES and apply there, as people already said, your GPA is above 3.0 with WES evaluation.

Alright... makes it better

you can actually jump from B.sc to Phd, it depend on a lot of things, your GRE score, TOEFL, experience, proposed project(postgraduate project).

you can send a mail to a professor in your field or school you're applying to, stating your interest in his project or research work. some professors will even advice you to apply for Phd.
