Jobs/VacanciesRe: What Next After You Realized You Botched A Job Interview? by DataAlchemist: 11:47am On Aug 08, 2023
lonelydora:
Your poor performance starts from preparing just one week to the interview date.

The problem with most Nigerians is they think interview is like a class examination where you have to read the toughest part of the course. No bi so.

The ability to communicate and be understood is what makes one ace any interview.

If you are fluent and have basic knowledge of the job you are applying, you will pass any interview.

My first job interview, the HR asked if I have a girlfriend, omo... I use that one hold them for blokos. I funnily narrated how we have been faring and how I will apply that skill on the job.

They all laughed and I got the job later.

Be a good communicator
lol..I agree with you tho, but your last part is due to the type of person you are, probably an extrovert, an introvert would have found that question awkward, putting more pressure on them.

A lot of Nigerians would be saddened by this.

Many years ago, I personally went to the Federal Character Commission to try to get a job into the Federal Civil Service.

Nothing came out of it.

It is sad to know that I wasn't considered at all because of this kind of racketeering. I came from abroad to apply that year. I even had a letter from my Senator at the time and had audience with the Federal Commissioner representing my State.
Why are you sad, even when you tried to use your influence of knowing a senator? How are you different from those who paid money to get the job?

HealthRe: Being AS Genotype As A Man Is Affecting My Plans Of Getting Married by DataAlchemist: 6:27pm On Jul 29, 2023
Felimax:
I love my wife so much, she was just one in a billion.

The way we started and the dreams and projects ahead of us will not allow us to get deterred by our same genotype.

We are both AS and right now we are blessed with an angel and three handsome princes.

My sister rejected her AS genotype husband to be and ran after an AA genotype man who she later married bad as it is they have been married for like six years now but no child.

My marriage of seven years is blessed with four kids already.

Bottom line - go to your God and talk to Him about it.
PLEASE DON'T SHOUT, DON'T SHOUT when you are talking to your God. If you shout you will hardly hear Him talking to you..

He will tell you your next line of action. Marriage is of God not man.

Throw the NON away and keep the SENSE.
And what if he is not as lucky as you are? cos it worked for you doesn't mean it will work for someone else, stop misleading people.
And why not refer your sister to talk to God too? or does God only answers genotype issue?
Jobs/VacanciesRe: The Tech Craze: A Bubble, Not A Solution For Unemployment In Nigeria. by DataAlchemist: 2:03pm On Jul 29, 2023
Douglad:
It's always been very funny to me when people come with pitchforks to attack the tech industry in Nigeria like it's a bubble or other nonsense.

Electrical, mechanical and petroleum engineering jobs that have been seriously bastardized with barely any job openings except being a maths teacher for private secondary schools, where are the articles?

Law as a course where over 70% of the graduates end up selling imported goods from china, where are the articles?

Aside from the healthcare, every field that was once lucrative has little to nothing to offer new graduates and no one talks about it

But for tech every ekuke with internet connection go dey open their silly little mouth dey shout "it is overrated".

Ogbeni shut the fûck up and do whatever it is you want to do. Una body odor dey disturb the environment.
Thanks bro, I'm tired of seeing all these tech is saturated talks, is there really a course or career not saturated? There are fucking billions of people in the world, and millions unemployed, then how else do they expect a career not to be saturated? They can only say tech is gaining attention not saturated, just like every bother courses out there, being good and unique is the only way to make a difference...
ProgrammingRe: Careers In Data Analytics by DataAlchemist(op): 6:22pm On Jul 28, 2023
In short you don't need to leave your initial background before breaking into tech, and when you choose data analysis do not be tempted to move higher by learning artificial intelligence or deep learning without having solid experience as a junior data analyst..The data you learn with online, is entirely different to the volume of data you will have to deal with out there in the real-world.. as an R user I will say why learn caret when you can't even work with tidyverse package??
ProgrammingRe: Careers In Data Analytics by DataAlchemist(op): 6:15pm On Jul 28, 2023
So you need an entry level jobs in tech? data analysis is one of the numerous ways to start. And the good thing is that as a graduate, you don't necessarily have to abandon your degree..you can just niche down to an analytical role.. let's go through the various aspects of a data analyst.

1. Financial Analyst : saw a thread earlier this year about someone who was seeking advice on how to transition from accounting into tech. Why do that when you can just improve your excel skills, SQL, powerbi and some accounting softwares like Quickbooks? unless maybe you have interest towards real coding like software developers and co. But for someone who has no idea of which tech to break into, as an accounting, banking and finance, or other related degrees, you can move into tech without ditching your certificate. and doesn't require much coding except the sql aspect which is just a querying tool.

2. Business intelligence analyst : you from the art/commercial background? Studied business administration?? Or intrigued about presenting nice dashboards to stakeholders? at the same time wish to land a role in tech? then this is for you? just like No.1 all you need is excel, SQL and any BI tool..in addition understanding business processes and key performance indicator. To sharpen your skills you can learn ETL tools like the OLAP AND OLTP or talend.

3. GIS Analyst : for my guys in the geoscience background, just like me grin grin..this is for us, actually looking towards breaking into this after gaining my grounds in data analytics.
With just the knowledge of a programming language like python or R and a gis tool like Arcgis and Qgis, we are actually good to go!
All we do is analyse geospatial data..so you don't have to dump your Geophysics, geology certificate just to get into tech. Currently there is a ministry in edo state recruiting for gis Analyst and it comes with one year training, seems the future is good for Gis Analysis in Nigeria.

Marketing Analyst : this is for those who doesn't even have degrees but are good in sales, why not add marketing Analyst description to your resume rather than just sales rep? and doesn't require much coding except being proficient in SQL, Excel, Viz tools, social media analytics, sentiment analysis. With this you are a tech person rather than a sales rep.

These are just few of the roles out there..there are much more, but these are the popular ones I know.
ProgrammingCareers In Data Analytics by DataAlchemist(op): 5:40pm On Jul 28, 2023
Evening landers, I will be talking about different careers in data analytics, and this is solely for people who wish to break into the tech world but having no clue about where to start, especially the ones from the non-stem background.
lots of guys have seeked advice on how do they get into tech or land a remote job, unfortunately most are being misled, because you see advices like learn artificial intelligence, machine learning, seriously??(for someone who doesn't even know how to query a data with SQL..lol), some even go as far as suggesting cyber security. For this naija??
But they won't tell you, the years of hardwork you need to put into them before getting rewards from them..and they are not even entry level roles, they are roles you get after so much experience working and learning as a data analyst/scientist.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Remote Job: Please Which Online Course Can Get Me Good Remote Job? by DataAlchemist: 5:18pm On Jul 28, 2023
JOGICE:
Any course centered on Data basically is a hot cake. AI, Data Analysis, Cybersecurity, etc.

I’ll advise you start with understanding the basics HTML, CSS, JavaScript, & then dive into PYTHON with an unwavering focus. You’ll be glad you did_IF YOU SCALE THROUGH
You should have just stopped at the bolded, are you sure you practicing all these professions you mentioning?? What does knowing html and css or javascript have to do with Ai and data analysis?
RomanceRe: Is Jealousy A Proof Of Love Or Lack Of Trust? by DataAlchemist: 5:02pm On Jul 28, 2023
Jealousy isn't insecurities, it's a feeling just like love, anxiety, hatred, pride, anger. it's something beyond human's control, it's something that happens subconsciously..it's totally normal for jealousy to creep in when you notice something shady about your partner. The way you handle it is now based on your maturity level and the initial trust you have for your partner.
But just like other emotions like anger and love, we shouldn't be consumed in it...
Everybody has a feeling of jealousy in them(just like how everybody is liable to get angry), but you shouldn't settle for one who is consumed by his/her jealousy.
But unlike anger, it can be helped and control by being faithful and transparent in the relationship..so before you accuse your partner of being a jealous type, make sure you are not the one triggering the jealousy in them.

you created a thread saying it's not for tribalism but yet the whole write up was full of self praise while making other tribes look less and you are expecting them to keep quiet, you even went as far as involving other countries, just to pass your message, later we will start screaming foreigners are treating us bad!

and back to the sport aspect, you wonder why the super eagles are thrash and the falcons not performing well?? probably because it's being dominated by your people
the music industry, boxing, tech, business sector (not buying and selling), nollywood where nigeria is doing well, can we say it's due to the low representation of your people?
even the elite nigerian footballers abroad playing for other countries, majority are sw(not being tribal tho)..the likes of saka, adeyemi, alaba, jamal musiala, manuel akanji..how would the super eagles have been if represented by these people?

so just calm down with your jabs

ProgrammingDescriptive Analysis On Nairaland's "New" Topic by DataAlchemist(op): 1:51pm On Jul 09, 2023
Happy Sunday landers, so I ‘m here to walk you through the descriptive analysis of the new topics created on nairaland. I was having a boring weekend, then I decided on doing one or two projects, while going through kaggle for datasets then an idea of analyzing nairaland’s data comes to my mind, because have been looking towards practicing my new gotten skill webscraping using R, lol. So this analysis is mainly for fun, so will be looking towards your criticisms and corrections.
So I scraped all the new topics created on 7th of july to 8th of july and was last updated 8th,july,2023, at 2:30pm, meaning all topics created above 2:30pm were not included.
The following questions were analyzed :
1. which section was the most active in this time-frame(has more topics created)?
2. For each original poster(OP), which section were they more active in?
3. Which sections have the highest number of views?
4. Is there any relationship/correlation between the number of views and replies(posts)?
Tool used:
R programming: Rvest for the scraping and Tidyverse for the analysis.
Limitation of Dataset :
Sample bias : the dataset contains just a day data and doesn’t represent the whole new topics created on nairaland.

How do I build portfolio
One popular way is creating a github profile then upload your projects to your github then you can link your github profile to your linkedln, other ways is building your personal website, uploading your projects to medium, or kaggle...

And to find datasets for your projects kaggle, dataquest, google dataset search, etc

You know, Google Data Analytics on course doesn't teach with PostgreSQL.
But like you said, there's a lot of similarities.
But for you, which server is better?
I don't know about which has a better server, but with postgresql, you don't have to connect to the internet to use, and big query has usage limit too, and in terms of demand, postgresql and mysql is better

ArchiLimited:
At this point I wish Mancity and arsenal would both simultaneously pull out of this deal and let West Ham eat their rice by themselves. What nonsense. These are the guys spoiling football. 90m for rice and you have audacity to say it's too small. That means mbappe would be 500m going by that valuation
No, the thing is westham don't actually want to sell rice, they will like to keep him, so what they are doing is pricing team out, but if your team insist on getting him, then pay whatever amount they demand..if rice had requested to be sold then they would have accepted the price, even less than that amount.

Thank you for the recommendations.
You welcome, the book is actually good to get started with SQL, and it provides link to datasets you can practice alongside with, and I'm sure you know the book is actually written for postgresql users, don't know the flavor of sql you currently learning , tho you can apply most of postgresql syntax to other databases, so you good to go
