There is something revealing in Peter Obi’s old threat to sue over the leaked Oyedepo conversation. He publicly denied the “Yes Daddy” audio, called it fake, and threatened legal action. That part is on record. But years later, the political memory remains more alive than the lawsuit itself. And that raises a fair question: was the threat about justice, or was it about leading on an already excitable support base? Obi said he would sue. Fine. Nigerians are entitled to ask: what came of it?

More interestingly, one should ask: did Bishop Oyedepo himself ever publicly come out to say the conversation never happened? I have not seen a clear public denial from him in the material available. That matters because once the principal figure in the audio does not loudly reject it, the burden shifts back to the politician who made the loud legal threat.

This is what makes the whole episode look less like resolve and more like theatre.

And then there is the Obidient factor. The movement thrives on outrage, thrives on emotional mobilisation, and thrives on a permanent siege mentality. It behaves like an online street-thug culture in fine grammar: always ready for battle, always eager to attack, always convinced that aggression is proof of truth. That is why every controversy around Obi becomes a crusade instead of a sober test of evidence.

As for Obi himself, his real problem is that too often he talks first, threatens next, and leaves the facts panting behind him.

A man cannot keep putting his foot in his mouth and then blame critics for noticing the limp.

My brother, before we canonize Peter Obi, permit me to ask a simple question:

Which of the 15 points you listed automatically qualifies a man to become President of Nigeria?

Because by that standard, General Muhammadu Buhari would have been close to perfection.

Former Military Governor? Check.

Former Federal Commissioner (Minister) for Petroleum? Check.

Former Head of State? Check.

Personally austere? Check.

Not known for flamboyance? Check.

Not convicted of corruption? Check.

Endless reputation for integrity? Check.

In fact, many Nigerians called him "Mai Gaskiya" and "the only clean man."

And yet, history has judged his administration as one of the most corrupt, economically disastrous and institutionally damaging in recent memory.

Which brings us to a very inconvenient truth:

Personal simplicity is not the same thing as presidential competence.

Living modestly does not automatically translate into managing a complex economy.

A man may be personally honest and yet preside over monumental corruption by others.

He may be prudent in his private life and disastrous in public administration.

More importantly, several of your points are arguments from absence. "No conviction" is not proof of exceptional leadership. Lack of scandals is not an economic blueprint.

So I ask again:

Why do these 15 qualities necessarily make Peter Obi the best person to govern 230 million Nigerians?

Can he manage coalitions?

Can he take difficult decisions?

Can he build consensus?

Can he govern a country as complicated as Nigeria?

Because the lesson of Buhari is this:

The "only clean man" does not necessarily produce the cleanest or most competent government.

Character matters.

But competence matters too.

And history teaches that nations are governed by more than reputations.
