PoliticsWhat Are The Characteristics & Global Significance Of Chinese Path To Modernizat by DaveHarry(op): 7:06pm On Oct 20, 2022
The Chinese path to modernization has expanded the channels for developing countries to achieve modernization. Since Western countries were the first to realize modernization, some Western theorists claim that modernization is equivalent to Westernization. As a result, some developing countries that applied Western models mechanically have only found themselves plunge into hot water because of the models that are incompatible with their national realities.
China's successful exploration of its own path to modernization has demonstrated that modernization is not the monopoly of the West, and that every country can realize leapfrog development as long as it finds a path to modernization that fits its national conditions.
The path to modernization China has chosen emphasizes peaceful development and upholds mutual learning and exchanges among civilizations. Overturning the Western fallacy of the so-called "clash of civilizations", the path has created an inclusive new form of human advancement and promoted world peace and development.
China has provided a new possibility, that is, abandoning the law of the jungle, hegemonism and power politics and the zero-sum game and replacing them with win-win cooperation, co-construction and sharing.
Hoping Nigeria learn from the Chinese sooner than later.

BusinessMusk Says Spacex Cannot Keep Funding Ukraine Starlink by DaveHarry(op): 10:56am On Oct 15, 2022
Elon Musk has said his rocket firm SpaceX cannot continue indefinitely paying for Ukraine's Starlink internet service in his latest spat with Kyiv.

In February, the world's richest man activated his company's satellite internet system in Ukraine to keep its military and people online.

But last month the Tesla owner asked the Pentagon to fund the programme instead of him, according to US media.

He recently provoked Kyiv's ire by suggesting it cede territory.

"SpaceX is not asking to recoup past expenses, but also cannot fund the existing system indefinitely," Mr Musk tweeted on Friday, referring to his space company that makes the Starlink system.

Starlink works by providing broadband internet through a network of satellites. It has proven vital for Ukraine's military as it fights to retake Ukrainian land from Russia.

Ukraine credited Starlink this week with helping to reboot its infrastructure in key areas following more than 100 Russian missile strikes.
But the programme costs $20m (£18m) per month to maintain, according to Mr Musk. He recently said SpaceX had spent $80m so far to keep Ukraine online.

"In addition to terminals, we have to create, launch, maintain & replenish satellites & ground stations," he wrote on Twitter.

"We've also had to defend against cyberattacks & jamming, which are getting harder."

Ukraine's vice-Prime Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, downplayed tensions with Mr Musk, writing on Twitter that the billionaire "is among the world's top private donors supporting Ukraine".

"Starlink is an essential element of our critical infrastructure," he wrote.

A Ukrainian presidential advisor said that Ukraine will find a solution to keep Starlink working.

Earlier this month, Mr Musk tweeted out a proposal that Ukraine accept Russia's annexation of Crimea and allow referendums in Ukrainian regions invaded by Moscow.

The Kremlin responded positively to the overture.

But Ukraine's outgoing ambassador to Germany, Andrij Melnyk, posted a tweet telling Mr Musk to go away, using a swear word.

Responding on Friday to a post referring to the ambassador's remark, Mr Musk said: "We're just following his recommendation."

Moscow recently declared four more Ukrainian regions to be part of Russia, following so-called referendums denounced as fraudulent by Kyiv and its Western allies. Russia does not fully control any of the four regions.

Mr Musk has also suggested the world should "formally" recognise Crimea - illegally annexed by Moscow in 2014 - as part of Russia.

This week, Mr Musk denied that he spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin before releasing his Twitter poll.

"I have spoken to Putin only once and that was about 18 months ago. The subject matter was space," he tweeted.

That statement came after a think tank researcher claimed Mr Musk had personally told him about the alleged conversation.

FamilyWhat Advice Can You Offer This Young Woman? by DaveHarry(op): 12:28pm On Oct 13, 2022
“I got pregnant nine years ago while dating my current husband and then the issue of marriage came up.

I wasn’t working then. He told my family and I that he doesn’t want a court marriage for no reason.

My parents tried talking to him, I cried and begged him severally to legalize his marriage with me but he stood his grounds not to wed me in a court.

I involved his family members to help me beg him but they said, he’s old enough to make his decisions.

He even refused to do a white wedding either because my church requested for a court certificate, so we ended up doing only traditional marriage.

I later got tired and gave up on the matter. I was hurt and broken but I resolved to marry him like that just to save myself and my family the shame of having a baby outside wedlock.

My dad was angry and disappointed in him but he didn’t care and because of that my dad vowed to see me a successful and independent woman with or without him.

After I gave birth to my baby, my dad helped me secure a job with a multinational company and things started to turn around for me.

I could now take care of myself and secure a future.

Though I married my husband but I never forgave him from my heart and it made me not to do anything in my husband’s name.

We currently have three kids together but all my properties are in the name of my children. I never used him as my next of kin either.

Just last month my company decided to transfer me to a branch in Texas and the company is willing to pay for my entire family to relocate with me.

My husband’s business is not doing too well and he’s willing to relocate also but we have no legal certificate to show that we are married.

Now he wants us to go to the court to legalize our marriage and I have said “No”

My dad has threatened to disown me if I ever go with him to court.

He’s been tagging me everywhere as a bad wife who is not loyal to her husband, spoiling my family also.

His family members have been calling me trying to persuade me but I told them I’m old enough to make my decisions also and I have stood my ground just like he did to me nine years ago.”

What is your advice for this young mother of three?

PoliticsRe: Is Colonialism The Primary Reason Why Africa Is So Poor? by DaveHarry(op): 11:55am On Oct 13, 2022
In other words, “Are the events of 1880 to 1960 the main reason Africa is poor today?” And the answer is NO!!! Africa is poor today because of Africa’s failure to manage her resources! And the aim of the pictures attached is to illustrate the difference between the orderliness during colonialism as against the chaos we have today, portraying my initial statement that colonialism should actually be a reason why Africa should be rich if we continued on the good strides the whites left us, like infrastructure, etc.
PoliticsRe: Is Colonialism The Primary Reason Why Africa Is So Poor? by DaveHarry(op): 11:51am On Oct 13, 2022
And please, don’t talk about increase in population. It has nothing to do with orderliness and development. We are our own problems. Yes the westerners add to it, but that’s because we invite them either through our actions or inactions. Today, Jamaica and Canada, are still under the United Kingdom with the Queen as their head of state, but check out the difference between the two countries.

According to trading economics, Nigeria is expected to earn $250b in 2020 and projected to be up to $450b in 2021 and 2022, yet every year, we borrow money from China even to pay salaries! The investigations by the senate and other revelations have shown how much wealth is being looted by government officials! Imagine how far the economy would have spurred if these monies were actually invested in infrastructural development or other factors of the economy.

I read in one of the answers, someone said China is taking over Zambia’s international airport. Well, China lent money to Zambia and they failed to meet up with the payment. What do you expect?

Until African countries begin to look inward for their own progress, they’ll always be ‘the other people’, poor and debtors. AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH COLONIALISM.
This is Lagos now.

PoliticsIs Colonialism The Primary Reason Why Africa Is So Poor? by DaveHarry(op): 11:49am On Oct 13, 2022
I do not believe colonialism is a reason why Africans are poor. Infact, it should be a reason why Africans or black nations should be rich. Colonialism brought about orderliness, massive infrastructural developments. As a matter of fact, most of the federal roads we have in Nigeria are the ones paved and constructed by the whites. Every subsequent government only renovates it.

This was Lagos during colonialism.
