The father of former Liverpool star Roberto Firmino has passed away at the age of 62 after suffering a heart attack. Jose Roberto Cordeiro de Oliveira fell ill during a family trip to Dubai, with his Brazil international son currently plying his club trade in the Middle East for Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ahli. Photos from that vacation had been shared earlier in the week by family members, with a visit to an amusement park being taken in. Firmino has always been close with his parents, having seen them aid his efforts to become a professional sports star, and wrote in his book ‘Si Senor – My Liverpool Years’: "Not all heroes wear capes; some are called father. My father, Jose, was my childhood hero, an inspiration and an example. A generous, serious, honest man and dedicated to his family.” Firmino’s boyhood club, Maceio-based CRB, have said when paying their tributes: “The Clube de Regatas Brasil deeply regrets the death of Jose Roberto Cordeiro de Oliveira, father of Roberto Firmino, who left us this weekend. He's always been a big Galo de Campina fan and was very proud of his son being unveiled in football with the whirlpool shirt. Rest in peace, Jose Roberto.”

The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, has declared that the country will grant visa-free travel to Africans to boost free movement of people and trade. This decision positions Rwanda as the latest African nation to adopt such a measure, joining others in the pursuit of a more integrated continent to rival Europe's Schengen zone. The Schengen zone, consisting of 27 European countries, has successfully eliminated the need for passports and various border control measures at their shared borders. Local media reports that Kagame revealed his plans on Thursday during a speech in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Kagame emphasised the immense potential of Africa as a unified tourism destination. Currently, the continent heavily depends on tourists from outside Africa, accounting for 60% of its total visitors, according to data from the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. "Any African can get on a plane to Rwanda whenever they wish and they will not pay a thing to enter our country," said Kagame during the 23rd Global Summit of the World Travel and Tourism Council. "We should not lose sight of our own continental market. Africans are the future of global tourism as our middle class continues to grow at a fast pace in the decades to come," he said. Rwanda is poised to become the latest African nation to eliminate travel restrictions for fellow Africans, following in the footsteps of Gambia, Benin, and Seychelles. Similarly, in a recent development, Kenya's President William Ruto has revealed plans to allow visa-free travel to Kenya for all Africans by December 31.

Hard-headed bastard, maybe he'll listen in his casket The aftermath, more bodies being buried I'm losing my homies in a hurry, they're relocating to the cemetery Got me worried, stressin', my vision's blurry The question is "will I live?" No one in the world loves me I'm headed for danger, don't trust strangers Put one in the chamber whenever I'm feelin' this anger Don't wanna make excuses, 'cause this is how it is What's the use? Unless we're shootin', no one notices the youth It's just me against the world, baby Me against the world, ooh yeah It's just me against the world Ooh-hoo It's just me against the world Me against the world, ooh-ooh 'Cause it's just me against the world, baby Hey Me against the world Ooh yeah I got nothin' to lose It's just me against the world, baby I got nothin' to lose Could somebody help me? Gabon's military leaders say they plan to hold a general election in August 2025. This follows pressure from the international community to announce a timetable for the return to civilian rule. Gen Brice Oligui Nguema seized power in August from his cousin, Ali Bongo, vowing to rescue the country from a "severe institutional" crisis. The central African nation had been ruled by the Bongo family for 55 years. Although members of the interim government cannot stand in the upcoming elections, the transitional charter does not bar Gen Oligui Nguema from doing so. It is not yet clear whether he intends to. Announcing the plans on Monday, Gabon's junta said the proposed timetable was not final and would need approval from the public during town hall-style meetings next April. A new constitution is to be presented in October next year and adopted by the end of that year in a referendum. Gabon's transitional leaders have made moves aimed at rebuilding trust in the government, including arresting those accused of embezzlement of state funds, forgery and other crimes. First Lady Sylvia Bongo and her son Noureddin Bongo Valentin have both been charged with corruption, but analysts say the extended Bongo family and its allies still retain positions of power.

Several countries, as well as the United Nations, have called for a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. But others - including the UK, US and EU do not support the idea, saying it would benefit Hamas, which has been designated a terrorist organisation by the US and several Western governments. As we've been reporting, the US is instead pushing for a humanitarian pause. But what's the difference? Compared to a formal ceasefire, humanitarian pauses tend to last for short periods of time, sometimes just a few hours - and usually cover a defined period and location. They are typically implemented purely with the aim of providing humanitarian support, as opposed to achieving long-term political solutions, according to the United Nations. Ceasefires, meanwhile, are intended to be long-term, and often have an aim to allow parties to engage in dialogue, including the possibility of reaching a permanent political settlement, the UN says. ***copied*** |

Even though I'm a born again Christian, we Christians condemn the brutality of Isreal against Gaza. No sane Christian should support the bombing of children and innocent women. 11,000 innocent people bombed to shreds for been defenseless and trying to be free from oppression. We nigerian Christians stand with and will continue to pray for the Palestinians. May our Lord Jesus continue to guide and protect the Palestinians against the evil of Israel
