Another police station has gone up in flames in Lagos State few hours after Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu imposed a 24 hours curfew in the state

Hoodlums on Tuesday attacked and razed the Layeni police station which is located at Ojo road, Ajegunle in Apapa.

The incident occurred hours after the arson at Orile and the state government has announced a 24-hour curfew effective 4pm today.

The police has banned protests and any form of gatherings.

The Lagos command has also deployed operatives to flash points and other strategic parts of the state.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed that President Muhammadu Buhari should demonstrate his care for the protesting youths by attending to their demands.

Obasanjo made this remark when he visited Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Monday.

He described the #EndSARS protest as the product of an extensive agitation by the Nigerian youth.

He said the youths are clamouring for a better life and there are several ways the government can show it understands their plights by making things easier for them.

“More than 65 percent of our population is under within the ages of 18 and 30; they are not only struggling to acquire education, they are also aspiring for the best that life can offer them,” Obasanjo said.

“Some of them didn’t even get educated, while those who are educated are getting frustrated because of lack of opportunities. We must realize that the lid on the boiling steam would have to be removed.

No fewer than 37 former members of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad have been listed for dismissal from service.

The Police Service Commission is also expected to order the prosecution of 24 other ex-SARS operatives for various acts of professional misconduct.

These were the highlights of the Report of the Presidential Panel on Reform of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad set up by the Federal Government in 2018 to reform the dreaded unit.

The presidential panel had, among other things, investigated allegations of human rights violations and abuse of office against SARS and recommended reform or restructuring of the outfit.

Presenting the report to the PSC Chairman, Musiliu Smith, in Abuja on Friday, the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu, called for a speedy implementation of the panel recommendsations.

A statement by the PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said Ojukwu observed that the PSC chairman has all it takes to deal appropriately with the report of the panel.

A policeman expressed sadness at the state of the Nigeria Police.

The citizen, a Sergeant, said he joined the Force in 2006.

He had his first child in 2017 and now has four kids.

The policeman recalled that his salary for a few years was N8,000 and later N12,000.

Quote “I am not happy about the situation of this country. My wife is protesting. I cannot be there but when she told me she wanted to go, I didn’t stop her because the situation affects her.

“After 14 years in service, I am still collecting N64,000 per month. Not just me, others in my set too collect the same salary. It doesn’t cover anything. I have four kids, I am paying rent, school fees, feeding my family,” he said.

He revealed how officers pay for things the police should provide for them if the system was working.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has revealed a new Police outfit SWAT will take over from the dissolved Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigerian Police Force.

The new outfit known as Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), will fill the gaps arising from the dissolution of SARS.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, in Abuja.

The prospective members of the new outfit will undergo tactical training next week and also a psychological and medical examination to ascertain their fitness and eligibility for the new assignment.

Mba in his statement said, “Prospective members of this new team will also undergo a psychological and medical examination to ascertain their fitness and eligibility for the new assignment. They are to commence training at the different Police tactical training institutions nationwide, next week.

“Personnel from the Police Commands in the South-East and the South-South will be trained at the Counter-Terrorism College, Nonwa-Tai, Rivers State. Those from the Police Commands in the North and the South-West will be trained at the Police Mobile Force Training College, Ende, Nasarawa State and the Police Mobile Force Training College, Ila-Orangun, Osun State, respectively.’"

Also, the Inspector General of Police has ordered all the personnel of the defunct SARS to report at the Force Headquarters, Abuja for debriefing, psychological and medical examination.

Mba said that the officers are expected to undergo this process as a prelude to further training and reorientation before being redeployed into mainstream policing duties.

He said, “The medical examination will be carried out by the newly set-up Police Counselling and Support Unit (PCSU), a Unit which henceforth shall engage in psychological management, re-orientation and training of officers of the Force deployed for tactical operations and other duties.

“The Unit, which is domiciled with the Force Medical Department and coordinated by the Force Medical Officer, has its membership drawn from psychiatrists, psychologists, medics, pastors, imams, public relations practitioners, civil society, and other human rights groups with relevant qualifications and expertise.”

A female protester today, clashed with a cab driver and his friends after the driver said she deserves to be killed for having tattoos.

The lady dragged the driver mercillessly for his statement, with the driver firing back at her, and calling her a ‘criminal’.

According to the young lady, the cab driver said she is a criminal who deserves to be killed over her tattoo, and for that reason, she shouldn’t be protesting.

Set free the one you love. If they return, it was meant to be. Bullshit, isn’t it? There’s no guarantee for how to give someone space without losing them.

That old saying, “If you love someone set them free, and if it was meant to be, they will come back,” sucks. Not because it isn’t true, but because it sounds so damn easy. If you want to know how to give someone space without losing them, the answer is mind over manner. For those of us who have a harder time with the inner voices that create anxiety, it can be torture.

Rationally, what you already know, and I don’t have to tell you, is that you can’t control anyone’s actions but your own. But, sometimes that doesn’t help. Fear, especially in love, is one of the hardest things to overcome. The problem is if you don’t create space, and let them figure out what they want and need, your smothering leads to them pushing you away anyway.

How to give someone space without losing them *and without anxiety*

A vicious cycle, the more they push you away, the harder you cling. Until one day you chase them around the house, texting them desperately, or stalking their home. That isn’t the answer, and you know it.

don’t have to tell you what you need to do. I will try to give you some comfort to follow through with what won’t come naturally and probably feels like your heart is breaking. Hold strong! You can do this, I believe in you.

1 Stop texting. Texting is about the worst thing for any relationship. Unless it is for fun at first, quick messages, or sexting, texting can be a cancer in your relationship. There was a time when you couldn’t get to someone, and that is just the way it was.

Learning to cut the umbilical cord was easier without such easy access. If you want to give someone space, stop texting them, like all together. When they are ready, they reach out to you. Don’t try to insert yourself into their day, just let them have their space by going radio silent.

2.Don’t ask questions all the time. If you feel as if they need space, then you probably feel like something is wrong, they pull away, or you know something is changing. You ask them a question a minute, but until they are ready to let you in, they aren’t going to answer you.

They might not even know what they want or how they feel. All the questions do is to make them shut down and shut you out, which is a self-fulfilling prophecy to what you don’t want.

The Lagos State Police command has disclosed that it arrested 121 people for violating the blackout time forced by the government, Monday, to relax the lockdown designed at containing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also, 58 people were arrested for having their face mask on,79 vehicles were impounded during the embargo hours.

Spokesman for the command, DSP Elkana Bala, who made the information available stated that, alleged the arrested suspects alongside 148 others arrested over the weekend for violating lockdown order, were charged to Court, in this manner bringing the total number of suspects charged to court Tuesday alone, to 325.

Oil rose above $31 a barrel on Wednesday as hopes for a recovery in request as some countries ease coronavirus lockdowns offset a report showing a higher-than-expected rise in U.S. inventories.

Brent crude has almost doubled since hitting a 21-year low reached on April 22, supported by expectations demand will recover and by a record supply cut led by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Brent LCOc1 was up 79 cents, or 2.6 per cent, at $31.76 a barrel at 0930 GMT, having risen in the past six sessions.

Britain’s death toll connected to the novel coronavirus has risen to 29,427, the government stated on Tuesday, Britain’s has now overtaken Italy with the highest number of deaths in Europe amid the covid-19 pandemic.

The amount includes individual deaths reported through the Health ministry following tests in hospitals and nurture homes, with scores of experts estimating that at least 40,000 people have died following infection with the virus.

An official report on Monday in Italy, which has recorded 29,315 deaths, suggested it could have a similar total to Britain.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria said yesterday it has helped 997 Americans return home to reunite with families and friends, in view of the challenge posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mission in a statement issued yesterday, said: ‘’From April 6-8, three U.S. Consulate-organized chartered flights operated by Delta Air Lines and Ethiopian Airlines repatriated 850 American citizens from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos to the United States. Woman aged 107 becomes world’s oldest person to survive coronavirus

A 107-year old Dutch woman has recovered from the coronavirus, probably becoming the oldest survivor of the pandemic in the world.

Cornelia Ras fell ill on March 17, the day after her 107th birthday, Dutch newspaper AD reported, after attending a church service with other residents of her nursing home on Goeree-Overflakkee, an island in the southwest of the country.

She and 40 others at the service were subsequently diagnosed as carrying the virus.

Twelve of that group have since died, but Ras was told by her doctors on Monday that she had beaten the infection.

THE World Bank has announced N31.2 billion ($82 million) to support Nigeria’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Announcing the support in a statement, the bank said it is moving quickly to provide fast and flexible support to help Nigeria and other African countries in mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic by providing direct and long-term financial support over the next 15 months.

THE medical aids and professionals provided by the Chinese government to assist Nigeria combat coronavirus (COVID-19) will arrive on Wednesday, April 8.

The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC, the main contractor handling the rail modernisation programme of the federal government, facilitating the assistance of the medical experts announced Tuesday night in a statement in Abuja.

Among the materials which will be arriving the country through a chartered flight by a local air carrier, Air Peace, includes 16-tons of test kits, ventilators, disinfection machine, disposable medical masks, N95 masks, medicines, rubber gloves, protective gowns, goggles, face shields, infra-red thermometers and other critical care items.

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele and her husband Abdul Rasheed Bello(JJC) have been convicted and fined N100,000 each by an Ogba Magistrate Court for flouting the Lagos State Infectious Disease (Emergency Prevention) Regulation 2020.

Delivering judgment after the couple pleaded guilty, Magistrate Y.O. Aje-Afunwa ordered the defendants to pay N100,000 naira each as fine.

The magistrate also held that the couple must serve 14 days community service and thereafter to observe period of isolation.

The couple who were arraigned before Magistrate Aje Afunwa pleaded guilty to the one-count charge brought against them by the Attorney General of Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, says there are now 8, 596 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on African continent with 383 deaths.

Former Archbishop Emeritus of Lagos, Catholic Church, Anthony Okogie says Coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria is a blessing in disguise.
