Timmytimmy: I don't think OAU is the only school where there is a struggle for medicine. The NMA gives a certain number of medical students that each school can admit in a year.I'm not sure other courses have a centrally governing body like that hence admission is based on the school's discretion.
Btw.......I think at certain times, Medicine is over-rated in Nigeria. (quote and I shoot ) Timmytimmy: I don't think OAU is the only school where there is a struggle for medicine. Thanks to Timmytimmy for this wonderful idea. As a young boy,I started thinking about a career very early but not in relationship with my aptitude. I wanted to become everything,no one around me to inspire me. I would like to become anything I see someone succeeded in doing. When I got to JSS ,i wanted to become a computer Engineer, because of a student teacher in our school then. He also studied Comp engineering; the guy sabi teach even pass our Head Teacher. I was very passionate about sport; football in particular. I argue a lot,i also present a program every friday on school assembly where I give information on sport to students. That was how I got passionate about information. I want to know everything about anything. I realised i was for art,I hate maths with passion and integrated science with zeal. In SSS people say art class is for dull students, not in my own set. Art was the best of all department produced senior prefects for both sex. I sat for gce in 2008 when I was in SS2 had 7 credits registered for ume in 2009 chose OAU to study law. Wrote jamb for 4 consecutive years with 210,256,239 and 229 as my score respectively, i didn't go for putme in 2009 because i was into apprentice ship; GSM repair. Wrote putme for 3 consecutive years with 189,200 and 248 Didn't write any exam in 2013. I chose law not because I want to become a lawyer but I want to be charismatic. I learnt people listen to you only when you have the charisma, and Lawyers are highly respected in our society today, want to learn more in English language want to be sure of everything i say or write, because I see myself addressing millions of people in future. When I failed on every attempt to study law in OAU,I changed my mind to go for the deal itself (English Language).Thank God i made it. I don't wantt to be a professional in any field want to be all around, a motivation to professionals in all spheres of profession. Lastly I want to end up as a politician......... Abuja things on my mind. Thanks to haydot for the nomination. I nominate understatement after dora. |

haydot95: Wow...different strokes for different folks tho Anyway, here z mine As a kid,I wanted to be everything...an engineer,a doctor,a lawyer...an artist, just every single profession you could ever think of. But as I grew older,I begin to narrow down my choice, weighing every single profession against the other...trying to calculate, trying to imagine what I'd achieve with each one. I wanna be able to build new machines to do certain tasks,to help people...I wanna make people see the definition of beauty in artworks...I wanna write programs for different operating systems to achieve certain results, you'd say I dream a lot...as a lil boy of 9yrs,I ve fallen in love with computers,...fallen inlove with drawing and writing, tho gave up on drawing few years later only to rekindle my interest in it some months ago, and above all,I love defending people, making up excuses for the wrong doings of others,e nr concern me o but still,I'd stand up for them...and loved playing soccer too, called myself an emergency winger back then ,cos I'm not that strong but no matter what,if I play during the last 15minutes of a game,I'd create numerous opportunity for goals...still trying to create a career path for myself,I did every single art and science subject til I got to ss2,I actually loved physics, but hate chemistry, loved biology a bit, atleast I like d dissection of things sha, and hate maths,as if na magic dem dy use do am,managed to pass tho...not that good in literature but loved government and crs...I read a lot, irrelevant things actually, things above my level I'd say,I mean...read about "law of tort" when I was in ss2...and that really enlightened me and I fell in love with "law",coupled with a movie I watched, titled "a time to kill",that made me realise that people are suffering from injustice but I can do my part in helping them, and one of the ways which I can help is by being a lawyer...but for now, didn't make the cutoff for law but still,I'm gonna make it for law, won't stop til I'm wearing white and black too. And still,I'm gonna own an art gallery, developing my drawing skills sef,and I still lawvvv computers like hell,na my companion b dat,so help me God...write up z kinda off tho Hmmmmmmn. |

uumm: Okay, after reading through Timmy's write-up, it's only fair that I share my fair-share of me. Btw, I and Timi have quite a lot in common..... here I go.. please pardon the long essay you're about to read..
If you had asked me what I wanted to become many years back, I woulda said doctor (don't relax yet).. As a little boy, I had no actual 'dreams' for my future that I can think of.. all I had was my dad's dreams for me. I remember one time when a bus that was conveying medical students passed by, my dad said to me "one day, you're gonna be on that bus son", and I was like "umm, okay". Anyway, the point is; 8-year-old me wanted to become a doctor (because of my dad.)
Fast-forward to a few years later- when reality happened- I was chilling at the bottom of the class in the latter part of my secondary school days. I know that most people who know me from P.D might find this hard to believe, but this dude was never always 1st or 2nd or anything close in Senior Secondary School.. Maybe it was because I was too young for my class.. maybe one witch was pursuing me. Somehow, I graduated Sec. School and then I realized I actually needed a future ambition.
After failing to gain admission to study medicine that year, my life literally began. Here's a list of professions I considered : 1. Computer Scientist (I was pretty good with computers) 2.Philosopher 3.Rock-star (Timmy understands) 4. Lawyer 5. Professional dancer (I kid you not) 6. Footballer (I don't even play ball).
To put it simply, my life was in shambles. I finally settled for 'movie-addict'.I spent more time watching movies than eating, sleeping, and playing combined together. That's when it began- from regular movies, I shifted to crime movies. I was fascinated by the amazing brilliance of detectives.. then I moved to medical movies.. I just loved the doctors, and most importantly what they were doing; HELPING.. Now let it be known that prior to this point in my life, I never thought any movie could move me to tears (let's just say I didn't really have a heart). I won't say I love medicine because of movies.. but they helped me a great deal along the way. The journey to my getting admitted into OAU has not been the most rosy one considering where I left off in secondary school, but I can only say that it is by God's mercy and love that I am what I am today. I chose medicine because I think nothing beats the feeling of knowing you can help someone who is not doing too well. With medicine, I know I can put a smile on the faces of many. I dream of a future where I can look back and say "yes I gave people my best, and I played my God-led part in their lives". I don't want to be the best doctor in the world... I don't want to be the richest doctor in the world. I want to leave my mark in the life of some orphan somewhere in this world who was in need of a good doctor, and got one.. One thing I have come to realize is- everyone is special, everyone has a story, and most importantly- everyone needs help. I'll only do my part, God is the healer... Music and writing have helped me a lot along the way, but God is the reason there's me. If you ask me today about my future ambition, i'll say I want to be a doctor (Not because of my dad).. Wow nice one Who is next pls don't stop the flow oooo. |

Timmytimmy: Hi everyone, I've been doing a little bit of thinking for the past few days and I thought about an idea.
The idea is meant to encourage us while we wait and also give this dying thread a little bit of rejuvenation. It's very simple, we would nominate people to tell why they want to study a certain course in OAU and what has been their motivation so far .
They would do their best to paint their dreams and aspirations using colouful words and expressions.I know it's not everyone here that would like to share something that private but looking on the bright side, you would encourage and influence people, you would also learn from others. I know this idea may seem rather corny or jejune, or even childish but that's the point, only children can enjoy the colour in life.
What do you guys think? Lemme know your thoughts, then we'd nominate someone. Nice one my guy,but you should start as the moderator. |
