Ibn kathir says;

Allaah says to Muhammad: O Muhammad say;

(O People of the Scripture! You have nothing......) meaning no real religion until you adhere to and implement the Tawrah and the Injil. That is, until you believe in all the Books that you have that Allah revealed to the Prophets. These Books command following Muhammad and believing in his prophecy, all the while adhering to his Law.


Now going to the next verse makes it clearer that they were not happy that an ishmaelite was the prophet talked about in their books;

"Verily, the revelation that has come to you from your Lord makes many of them increase in rebellion and disbelief"

As we can see the people of the book were not happy that the seal of prophets came from the ishmaelites, they knew about the prophecy of Muhammad saying he will be coming from among their brethren(as found in the OT) but they never thought brethren means their other brothers(I.e ishmaelites), so Allaah tells that they have no religion until they follow the things in their books as regards the prophethood of Muhammad.







Ibn kathir again says:

What is meant here is that anyone who wants to find out about religion from them should argue with them in a manner that is better, as this will be more effective. Allah says:

(Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and fair preaching...) (16:125).....


We believe in the previous undiluted scripture sent even though we didn't meet it, the ones we have today are diluted, and as for the diluted one we don't believe nor disbelieve in it, which is why one of the hadith reported by Abu hurayra says this;

The people of the Book would recite the Torah in Hebrew and explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. The Messenger of Allaah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Do not believe the people of the Book nor disbelieve them, but say: We have believed in Allaah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims in submission to Him.”

So the prophet replied with Allaah words found in sura al-baqarah verse 136.

The whole Bible is an insertion. It has no validity. Anything therein is suspect, and is most probably a faked story, in the words of a multitude of objective scholars of Christian scripture (not those your pastors that claim to be former armed robbers, acquiring knowledge, and turning preachers overnight). There is no authenticity, or transmission to the Bible. Heck, you cannot even state that so and so is the author of this or that gospel, without using the words 'likely' and 'possibly'. I stand to be corrected. Please prove me wrong.
