Aigbofa: Just take a look at the list of countries we are supposed to compete with in terms of human rights; Egypt, Syria, Rwanda, Uganda, all autocratic regimes.
Why can't Nigeria aspire to be like other democratic and stable countries that respect human beings and treat them with dignity?
You do know in terms of human rights Nigeria is actually better thatn places like uganda, egypt and rwanda?

The fact that we have an opposition that can openly insult the sitting president without repercussions automatically places Nigeria higher than the vast majority of african countries. On top of that unlike these other countries the media in Nigeria is not oppressed. They are free to speak their mind on various issues.

Nigerias human rights issues are more or less tied to the governments handling of the boko haram crisis. the truth of the matter is if even isreal could not conduct military operations without civilian casualties why are we expecting a developing country such as Nigeria to be flawless.

I mean the north is a very complex place. They say places like sambisa forest have communities where many civilians are still residing in even with bokoharams presence. There are also reports of bokoharam trying to use civilans as human shields.

Nigerians really dont know how good they have it when compared to many neighboring african countries in terms of rights...

Damn lies
I don't believe that the Western arms manufacturers are refusing to sell arms to Nigeria. This is all lies.

Western arms manufacturer would even sell arms to enemies of their own country unless their government specifically imposes bans on their arms export.

So far, no single Western country has a ban in place against selling arms to Nigeria. Why are some Nigerians so stupid to accept these lies?

What lies next?
That the $9.3 million cash seized in South Africa was meant for buy arms in the black market because Western arms manufacturers are refusing to sell arms to Nigeria?
you do know american and british arms manufacturers are closely tied to their governments right? plus on top of that, there is no ban but that does not mean they have to accept any requests from the Nigerian government.

As you can see the Nigerian defence spokesperson said the western countries were dragging their feet and were using human rights and unreliability as excuses to not sell to the Nigerian government.

Aigbofa: It has nothing to do with racism. When videos came out allegedly showing Nigerian soldiers making captives lie down and then slitting their throat one after the other did Nigeria government deny it?
This is part of the reasons they wouldn't sell arms to Nigeria. It is not about color.
It has nothing to do with human rights.
If so then why is america still arming syrian rebels? I remember a couple months ago There were videos of syrian rebels cutting out the hearts of their enemies and eating it on youtube.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2323858/Syrian-rebel-cuts-soldiers-heart-EATS-horrific-propaganda-video.html

A video that appears to show a Syrian rebel cutting out and eating the heart of a dead government soldier has been posted online in a horrific new propaganda stunt.
The unverified clip, posted by a pro-government campaign group, claims to show a man - believed to be Abu Sakkar, the well-known founder of Homs' Farouq Brigade - standing over the uniformed corpse in a ditch while ranting against President Bashar al Assad.
Using a knife, the man hacks open the torso and removes two organs before holding them up to the camera and declaring: 'I swear to God we will eat your hearts and your livers, you soldiers of Bashar the dog.' He then raises one to his mouth and takes a bite.

Plus if it has nothing to do with human rights then why is america still sending out billions of dollars of aid to egyptian military in-spite of their human rights violations.

http://www.hrw.org/news/2014/09/17/un-human-rights-council-egypts-human-rights-situation-repression-china-and-arrests-b
In Egypt the human rights situation is deteriorating gravely. The authorities continue to implement a new law effectively banning protests and to jail and try political opponents in legal proceedings that flagrantly violate due process rights. Since July 2013, at least 22,000 people have faced arrest or criminal charges, according to government figures.
Accountability remains seemingly impossible: to date, there has been no credible investigation of any police or army officer for the mass killings in 2013 – the worst such incident in Egypt’s modern history. Human Rights Watch calls on the Human Rights Council to condemn these continued abuses, urges the Egyptian government to release all political prisoners and ensure full accountability for mass killings of protesters.
the truth of the matter is america just wants a puppet and Nigerias government is surprisingly not submitting to them.

Afterall all if we look at countries like uganda and rwanda, countries that are willing puppets of america.(especially rwanda)
America still sells weapons to them even with their gross human rights violations.

You have no idea about the evil musevini is doing in Uganda. from recruiting child soldiers to assassination of opposition members and silencing the media.

or what kagame is doing in rwanda with assassination, imprisonment and torture of the opposition and oppressing the hutu population. Rwanda is also assisting rebels in destabilizing the congo.

Those 2 are practically demons walking in human skin. But again america chooses to turn a blind eye to their atrocities and collaborates and sells weapons to them.

Darling of the West, terror to his opponents: Meet Rwanda’s new scourge - Paul Kagame
Paul Kagame’s rivals keep dying, but Clinton and Blair still shake his hand, writes Ian Birrell
But Nyamwasa, a former Rwandan army chief who has survived two assassination attempts, asked who else might want to kill his friend. “It is not the first time and it is not the last. Most of President Kagame’s political opposition are in exile or in prison or are dead.”
Kagame’s strategy has been clear from the start of his rise to power; indeed, defectors and dissidents have explained in detail how he man gets rid of his rivals. “He believes that all opponents must die,” said Karegeya last year.

Those who served as his aides, army officers and bodyguards have said that even in exile during the days of bush warfare, he eliminated those who threatened his authority. After taking power following the 1994 genocide, his repressive regime used murder, arbitrary arrest, jail and strict media controls to sustain its incredibly rigid rule.

Former colleagues told me he never hid what would happen to enemies; even Paul Rusesabagina, the hotel manager who became a global hero amid the hell of genocide, had to go into hiding.

I was a child soldier for Uganda’s President
Now, after 25 years in office, Museveni is becoming more and more abusive of power. He is currently obsessed by the idea that he will become victim of an ‘African Spring’, mimicking the uprisings in North Africa and the Middle East. In this atmosphere of paranoia, he has targeted with extreme violence people he distrusts in an attempt to terrify the legitimate opposition led by Dr Kizza Besigye into passivity. - See more at: http://newint.org/features/web-exclusive/2011/06/03/uganda-child-soldier-story/#sthash.JtTPiflp.dpuf
I was accepted into the army, and I did well. I married and became a family man, putting away the past. One day in August 2002, Museveni called me directly, by my password, to go to State House. He said: ‘How old are you now?’ So I told him. He said: ‘Then you are old enough to fight me.’ He said: ‘When a person points to the leopard’s cubs, his finger will be bitten off.’

He was threatening me. Then he threw a glass of orange juice into my face and dismissed me. Three weeks later I was arrested. He never gave me one chance to defend myself. I was tortured to reveal things I could not reveal because I knew nothing about them. I only just escaped being killed. Secret helpers helped me to escape to the UK. I had no idea where I was going.

BadBoy25: black people will always be slaves . it doesn't take much to enslave black people . go with Russia and China. the United states is the only nation that tolerates african /black people .
someday you will wish for the United states to come and rescue you, but the United states will mind her business. then you will realize that you were a fool .
keep supporting Russia and welcome China to colonize you. you deserve everything coming your way .
The Chinese and Lebanese expatriates in Nigeria should keep treating their nigerian employees like the dirt they are . thats what Nigerians deserves.
Funny you talk about slavery while praising and worshiping the countries that instituted slavery on your people and have created an order of white supremacy globally. Last time i checked russia and china dont have a history of enslaving and disenfranchising blacks. Plus I find your comment about how the United states is the only country that is tolerant of black people to be funny.... so In your eyes America being tolerant of you is some kind of achievment?

You have sold so much of your self worth to America that you now think america being tolerant of blacks is some great achievment.

The fact nigerias government is looking elsewhere proves that our present leaders are not slaves. I am happy with the change in direction. We need military hardware urgently and the Russians and Chinese will be quick to supply us.

Plus it's good that the Nigerian government is looking to Russia and china for support. The Russians are known to make very lethal weapons.

For Nigerian Troops, It’s a Week of Massive Victory; Gains

The unusually daring moves by territory-seeking fighters, aka Boko Haram, in the recent times has had month doubts, placed the Nigerian military - the commanders and the soldiers – in the eye of the storm. The group’s media blitz as accentuated by interviews given western media to that effect by some desperate politicians from the North-eastern part of the country did make the already injurious position of our commanders to assume a cancerous state.

It was visible from all angles that our military had almost lost all the accolades it had earned for itself in the course of its so many forays in international peace-keeping and peace-enforcing operations in the recent times due largely to the propaganda mileage Boko Haram and their handlers had gained in the media over our troops. Worsened by its analogue tradition of not wanting to be proactively disposed to information dissemination, the military has been worse for it. This rather precarious strategic situation was further compounded by the penchant of our unstable neighbours, especially Cameroun, to be working round the clock by their actions and inactions to bolster the morale of the region’s otherwise common enemy, Boko Haram, in their fight to claim territories in Nigeria. Cameroun has been the most unsupportive of Nigeria’s quest to rout the insurgents from the North-east. Their position is quite understandable. It is absolutely not in her strategic interest for the insurgents to be defeated in Nigeria. The implication of that is that the defeated monster will naturally seek refuge in parts of the country, Cameroun. To that extent, the country might be strategically right to be working with the fighters to ensure that they remained solidly on the ground in Nigeria.
But I am happy to announce through this medium as a Nigerian who believes in the capability of our military that the tide is being turned by our gallantly troops. These young men at the front line, in the face of provocations and verbal assaults on their integrity from all, including those that have never lifted an AK-47 in their lives, have remained focused and patriotic in the pursuit of their strategic goal. This uncommon courage and show of professionalism has been paying off of late as exemplified by the string of gains they have made in the last 10 days of battle with the insurgents.

Within the period under review, our troops in company with their civilian aid-givers have mercilessly depleted the Boko Haram fighters with the killing of 735 of the insurgents in Borno and Adamawa States.
In the battle of Konduga alone, the insurgents have so far lost over 610 of their fighters within three operation days. They also lost one of their top commanders who was captured alive after sustaining injuries from the sustained pounding his command had received from the troops. It may also interest you to know that outside the Konduga axis, the fighters are equally at the losing end as a number of them have been killed in Michika, Bazza, Benishek, among other flashpoints.
Besides the growing human losses, the fighters have equally dispensed with valuable weapons and equipment as they were forced to submit to superior fire power of our troops. During the second round of fighting at Konduga, the insurgents lost 13 AK-47 rifles, five Rocket Propelled Gun (RPGs) tubes, two General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), one Anti-Aircraft Gun and two Ford Ranger pick-up vehicles. In all, Nigerian Army troops did not suffer any casualty. “Morale of our troops remains very high,” according to the authorities.
Similarly, during the first operation at Konduga, the insurgents also lost three Hilux and one Buffalo vehicles with mounted Anti-aircraft guns, three General Purpose Machine guns, over 30 AK-47 rifles and two global positioning systems to the military. Authoritative military sources had disclosed that beyond the staggering losses in equipment, the once boastful fighters and their loquacious media-visible sympathisers have not yet been able to explain why about 200 strong militants had to escape in the only truck that maneuvered from the scene of fighting given their vaunted claim of superiority.

For those who still think the figures are mere propaganda, I say no. But if you are still wandering why this has been made possible given the fact that new equipment have not yet been added to the troops’ fighting arsenal, I will equally say that the difference is the growing support the populace is giving to the military. We need as a matter of necessity to boost the morale of our soldiers; because to whom much is given, in terms of moral support, accolades, much is equally expected, i.e result.
An excited Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Brig-Gen. Olajide Laleye, had said: “Troops moral and combat efficiency remain high. Further details about the engagement and supporting photographs are being awaited.
“It must be noted that the renewed morale, fighting spirit and combat efficiency of troops have been boosted by new strategies devised by the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the support of well meaning members of the public.

“Therefore, the Nigerian Army implores the public to continue to support the military and other security agencies engaged in the on-going operation to rid Nigeria of blood-letting insurgents and ruthless religious extremists.”
The leading cheer givers and moral boosters in the game are members of the Maiduguri-based Civilian JTF. They are in their thousands and they are not relenting in their support for the military to wipe off insurgency in their state. A member of the supporters’ flock had joyfully broken the news of the gains of the military to journalists even before an official confirmation came from the Nigerian Army headquarters.
He had told newsmen that the insurgents were repelled from both Ngamdu, about 100 kilometres from Maiduguri on the Maiduguri-Damaturu road and Konduga, about 40 kilometres on the Maiduguri-Bama road.
He said the soldiers of the 7 Div of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri stationed in the two towns, Konduga and Ngamdu, engaged the insurgents in heavy confrontation at the break of the day and killed about 300 in Konduga where they had equally repelled them last week on which occasion over 100 insurgents were killed.
He added that at Ngamdu, 150 insurgents were killed by the troops in the exchange of gunfire.
The source further said: “As I am talking to you the corpses of the insurgents are lying the streets in the two towns.”
He further revealed that the military recorded the feat with the assistance of the local vigilante.
Another person, Bashir Abbas, a member of the youth vigilante group, said the attempts of the Boko Haram to invade Maiduguri was repelled by the military at different parts of the state with the insurgents suffering heavy casualties.
He said the sect’s members were repelled at Ajiri (60 kilometres from Maiduguri), Mafa (50 kilometres away from Maiduguri), Konduga (40 kilometres away from the Borno State capital on Tuesday.
They were equally repelled, according to him, on Wednesday morning on the Maiduguri-Damaturu road at Ngamdu about 100 kilometres away from Maiduguri and 20 kilometres from Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
Abbas, who stated that the confrontation between the military and the insurgents occurred between 2-5pm at Ajiri, 2-4.30pm at Mafa and 4.30-9pm at Konduga left hundreds of the sect’s members dead, revealed that the military equally made mileage in seized ammunitions.

He said the military retrieved five buffalo vehicle mounted with anti-aircraft guns and a Shelcar sophisticated gun. Abbas said that with the latest successes of the military, the people of Maiduguri can have a deep sleep.
I am with them in this spirit, even as a journalist. I am committed to any step that will help in de-escalating the crisis from my little journalism angle by adhering strictly to UNESCO’s proposed conflict-sensitive journalism module for all reporters.
In a book: “Conflict-sensitive reporting: State of the Art; a Course for Journalists and Journalism Educators”, by Ross Howard, the world body through the book espouses various actions needed to be taken by journalists reporting conflicts to achieve a better understanding of conflict and conflict resolution and the news media’s role.
The authors said: “The Curriculum comes at a time when the news media, with its new technologies and wider reach, is increasingly a target for misinformation, manipulation or suppression by interests seeking to profit from conflict. The central concept of Conflict-Sensitive Reporting is that violent conflict attracts intense news media attention that requires greater analytical depth and skills to report on it without contributing to further violence or overlooking peace building opportunities.”
“The intention is to make reporting on conflict more insightful, more comprehensive and thus more influential, since being comprehensive includes making clearer the possibilities of resolving conflict rather than perpetuating it. Conflict-sensitive reporting contributes to reconciliation and peace-building.” May I recommend that we make this our mantra at this stage of our national development? Because at the end of the day, Nigeria remains the hub that will drive journalism, journalists and the media to the desired cruising altitude.

BAKU, September 12. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia concluded last month an agreement with Nigeria on the deliveries of a considerable consignment of Russian Mil Mi-series military helicopters, which are called Hip in line with NATO classification, a senior official with the state-owned high-tech corporation Rostec said on Friday.
“In August, not that much long ago, a contract was signed with Nigeria on the deliveries of [Russian] helicopters,” Sergei Goreslavsky, a deputy director general of Rostec, said at the ADEX-2014 international defense exhibition in Azerbaijan.
“We are talking here about a significant number of Mi-171Sh helicopters and several Mi-35M helicopters,” Goreslavsky added.
He added that Mi-171Sh helicopters and other Mi modifications are very popular in other African states.
“Mozambique expressed its interest and we plan to work in this direction at the upcoming exhibition in South Africa,” Goreslavsky added.

Brahms: Well, Verve should up their game! The quality of ATM Cards powered by them are very poor. Don't know if they are to be blamed for that or the Banks that issued it.

What do you think of Interswitch?
The funny things is that Verve's parent company is Interswitch and the platform verve uses to make payments is Interswitchs platform.
Now I personally think interswitch is a revolutionary company. Its a company that makes me proud to be a Nigerian. The payment chip processor Interswitch/verve uses is wholly indigenous. There are not a lot of payment companies in the world that are able to make indigenous payment chips. Most of them just piggy back of the EMV Circuit cards provided by Mastercard and Visa. This is one reason why I am very patient with Verve. As the company grows and gains more experience their cards will improve

Regardless. Verve is not going to be using interswitchs payment platform for this project. The three merchant companies (verve, Mastercard, Visa) will be using Unified payments platform.

Unified payments is a Nigerian payment processor company owned and run by a consortium of Nigerian banks. So the groups that are really going to benefit from this project are actually the Nigerian banks. The trillions of naira circulating in the informal sector of the country will finally be managed by our banks which will mean a massive increase in the liquidity of our banks which will lead to our banks being able to fund massive infrastructural projects and provide long term loans to local businesses. It will also mean our government can begin to reduce foreign borrowing and increase domestic borrowing.

Nigerians really have no idea how much the whole nation will benefit when this project comes fully online. I know a lot of Nigerians are not very fond of our banks due to their high fees and inadequate customer service but at the end of the day if Nigeria is to be a truly sovereign nation, then she needs to work towards strengthening her banks. Remember the real movers and shakers in this world are the bankers.

Brahms: That doesn't answer why they placed MasterCard Logo boldy on our National ID. It's not a big deal tho.

Nice Initiative!
Well in the near future the logo of verve and visa are also going to be on the cards. Though the most important part about this is that using the payment system on the card is NOT mandatory. Its optional.

3. Payment
In the first phase, MasterCard is offering payment functionality for the Card. There is a firewall between this applet and all the other applets so not even a POS terminal can access the secure data protected by EAC2 on certain parts of the Card. As stated earlier, the National Database is NOT the business of MasterCard and never will be. Later on, we will have Visa and Verve Cards as alternatives to MasterCard. MasterCard will only be available on the first 13 million Cards.
DM: The pilot issuing bank is Access Bank Plc. NIMC expects other banks to join the scheme in the next few months. These issuing banks will manage the cardholders’ financial accounts, should cardholders activate the payments functionality on their cards and use this service.
I am hoping Verve gets the majority of the cards. Since mastercard will ONLY be available on the first 13 million. I expect visa to get 13 million and Verve to get the rest. We have to priorotize our local companies.

How about expiry date on the card?
Sorry for my questions, i am quite tired of reading.
No problem.

There is no expiry date on the card.

The only thing is if you lose the card then there is a cost to get a replacement.

DM: MasterCard does not set transactional fees. The issuing financial institutions that manage cardholders’ accounts set transactional fees.

It is worth noting the registration and first issuance of the identity card is free. However, there is a cost for any subsequent card replacement e.g. in the event of a loss, update, damage, expiration etc.

Nigerian National ID/Debit Card: Response from MasterCard

The recent decision by the Nigerian government to combine their new national identity card with a debit card has been raising a number of concerns ranging from privacy to conflict of interest. Coin Telegraph reached out to MasterCard’s Daniel Monehin, Division President, Sub-Saharan Africa, with some questions about the program and MasterCard’s role.

If you have not kept up with the issue the new card is expected to combine a national identity card that citizens can use for identification, voting and in the future even travel, with a debit card that users can both receive government funds and make deposits as well as withdraw cash and make purchases. Some of the concerns already expressed are how much influence will this collaboration give the banking community over economic policy in Nigeria and how can government records be protected from a private company without sacrificing efficiency in the program.

We would like to thank Daniel Monehin for responding to our questions:

CoinTelegraph: Please tell us about the new national identity card in Nigeria and MasterCard’s connection with the project?

Daniel Monehin: The National eID card program is an initiative led and implemented by the Federal Government of Nigeria under the mandate of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). NIMC is responsible for the creation, maintenance and operation of the National Identity Management System including the registration of citizens onto the National Identity Database, the issuance of National Identification Numbers, the issuance of the eID card to enrolled citizens, as well as the harmonization and integration of Government databases.

Early on in this program, the Federal Government of Nigeria recognized the importance of combining an identity card with payments functionality, acknowledging the transformative role that electronic payments and increased financial inclusion can play in creating inclusive growth in Nigeria.

A few years into the program, NIMC approached MasterCard to provide the payments technology on the eID card, as they recognized our deep experience with government prepaid cards, our proven track record in rolling out other large scale card schemes that combine biometric functionality with electronic payments, as well as our commitment to furthering financial inclusion and reducing the usage of cash in Nigeria.

In May 2013, NIMC signed an agreement with MasterCard to be the payments technology provider for the National eID pilot program. As part of the pilot program, NIMC will issue 13 million National eID cards with MasterCard’s prepaid technology to Nigerians 16 years and older.

MasterCard is responsible for providing the payments technology on the National eID card that enables cardholders to make safe and secure electronic payments. Using the National eID card as a payment tool, citizens can deposit funds, receive social benefits, save, pay for goods and services and withdraw cash at any of the millions of MasterCard acceptance locations globally or engage in many other financial transactions that are facilitated by electronic payments.

MasterCard’s prepaid technology is just one of the card’s 13 different applications, which is stored securely and separately from the other applets including the card’s identification applet. MasterCard is not involved in the identification component of the program and cannot access the National Identification Database or any citizen’s personal or biometric information.

CT: What percentage of the population is unbanked?

DM: Nearly 70% of Nigerian adults do not have bank accounts. Through the eID card, cardholders will gain access to formal financial services, and receive an identity card that is universally accepted, enabling them to live more self- determined lives.

CT: What are some of the reasons that so many people lack access to these services?

DM: One of the biggest barriers to owning a bank account is the lack of a universally accepted identification document. Combining an identity card with MasterCard’s prepaid payment capability creates a game changer as it breaks down this barrier - proof of identity - while simultaneously enabling Nigerians to access the global economy and providing citizens with state of the art financial services. Thanks to the scale and scope of the National eID program, financial inclusion is a goal that can be reached as it makes mainstream financial services available to those who cannot participate today.

CT: What are the effects of remittance and other fees on the average Nigerian?

DM: MasterCard does not set remittance fees. The Central Bank of Nigeria has issued guidelines for the maintenance of adequate and reasonable financial services to the public including regulation of the international remittance services to Nigeria.

CT: Citizens who have one of these cards will be able to deposit money to an account. What banks are being used to handle those accounts?

DM: The pilot issuing bank is Access Bank Plc. NIMC expects other banks to join the scheme in the next few months. These issuing banks will manage the cardholders’ financial accounts, should cardholders activate the payments functionality on their cards and use this service.

CT: What are some of the fees that MasterCard or the banks be charging Nigerians for transactions with this card?

DM: MasterCard does not set transactional fees. The issuing financial institutions that manage cardholders’ accounts set transactional fees.

It is worth noting the registration and first issuance of the identity card is free. However, there is a cost for any subsequent card replacement e.g. in the event of a loss, update, damage, expiration etc.

CT: The card can be used as a debit, voting and identity card. What about concerns for privacy?

DM: MasterCard is providing prepaid functionality on the National eID card as part of the pilot program. MasterCard does not grant open access to its transaction data to any law enforcement agency, neither in the US nor in other international jurisdictions. The privacy and security of transaction data is of paramount importance to MasterCard. As part of its transaction processing, MasterCard does not receive cardholder name and cardholder contact information. In the case of the Nigerian eID scheme, MasterCard does not capture or manage any personal data including biometrics. These remain the exclusive preserve of NIMC.

CT: What are the plans to improve digital infrastructure in rural areas to give everyone access and will fees be different for rural as opposed to urban residents?

DM: In 2012, there was approximately 22,000 Point of Sale (POS) terminals in Nigeria. Currently, there are about 150,000 devices, which have been deployed at merchants located in both urban and rural areas. Nigeria is on a steep curve when it comes to acceptance of POS technology, and is on a path to democratize acceptance by making it more functional and deployable. The deployment of Mobile Point of Sale (mPOS) devices will help to increase payment card acceptance in rural areas, as these terminals will reduce the cost to merchants and significantly boost acceptance of payment cards in rural areas.

The one note that we would like to make is that while MasterCard itself does not charge remittance fees the company greatly benefits from remittance fees charged by their clients. Monehin did however answer the question by stating that remittance fees will remain the same, regulated by the same guidelines that have burdened the West African people for generations.

This should put all controversy to rest.
As you can see MasterCard has no access to your personal information plus on top of that the payment app on the card is OPTIONAL.

DM: The pilot issuing bank is Access Bank Plc. NIMC expects other banks to join the scheme in the next few months. These issuing banks will manage the cardholders’ financial accounts, should cardholders activate the payments functionality on their cards and use this service.
The best part about this is that our local banks and the government will have more control over the billion of dollars being remitted back to Nigerians from the diaspora. The days of companies like western union fleecing Nigerians with remittance fees is about to end.

CFCfan: Yes, obtaining a bank loan will now be easier, but the danger is that if there is a diplomatic row between Nigeria and the US, MasterCard could freeze the e-payment feature of the card, causing even more hardship to folks.
You don't have to worry about Mastercard freezing your transactions. Mastercard is using a nigerian payment service processor for this project. The company is called Unified Payments Nigeria.

I can tell you at least five countries in Africa which their colonial masters are still in full support of them, and never withholds their helping hands from them whenever they are faced with a challenge or disaster.
Not talking about the infrastructural development now.

PoliticsEbola Drug Arrives Nigeria Today! by davitogreat(op): 2:47pm On Aug 14, 2014
An experimental drug for treatment of Ebola has been provided by a Nigerian in diaspora and will arrive the country today, health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu, has said. The drug, called “Nanosilver”, can now be used following the approval by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that experimental treatments are ethical in the case of the Ebola pandemic.
The Nigerian government authorised the use of experimental drugs on Wednesday. The US sent ZMapp, another experimental drug, to Liberia on Wednesday, while Canada has decided to donate 1,000 vaccines to the affected countries. According to Chukwu, the experimental drug is a donation from a Nigerian scientist who was concerned about threat of Ebola in his home country. “The drug will reach Nigeria today,” he said. Chukwu disclosed that the 169 secondary contacts were still under surveillance, while in all Ebola 11 cases had been recorded, including the index case, Patrick Sawyer, and the two Nigerians who died of the disease. “Some of the people under surveillance have completed the 21 days incubation period, and we have to let them go,” he said. The minister said the nurse, who is a primary contact, who had travelled to Enugu had not developed the symptoms as of the time of her trip, dispelling fears that she might have infected other people. “In Enugu yesterday, there were 21 secondary contacts with the nurse, but after investigations, there are only six secondary contacts now,” he stated. “The nurse who is newly-wedded had no symptoms of the disease when she travelled to Enugu, and while coming back to Lagos she travelled in a special ambulance with her husband. Her husband is under quarantine now.” Chukwu maintained that only Lagos state has recorded Ebola cases.

Its not about financial aid. I now Nigeria does not need any foreign assistance. My point was that if america is going to use things like human rights violations as benchmarks on who to work with then overlooking Nigeria and giving funds to Uganda and Rwanda does not make sense.

At the end of the day I would much prefer Nigeria not only solves her problems on her own but stands as a vanguard for other African nations and works towards establishing peace on the continent.

Barely three months after delivering the made-in-Nigeria Nissan range of vehicles, the Stallion Group has delivered yet again on another promise — the manufacturing and assemblying of Hyundai range of vehicles.

The chairman of the Stallion Goup, Mr Sunil Vaswani, who broke the news yesterday promised that the new vehicles “will be affordably priced,” in order to give Nigerians a break from the strangle-hold of wholesale vehicle importers.

The made-in-Nigeria Hyundai vehicles are being assembled at the Hyundai motor plant in Lagos.

Some of the Hyundai passenger cars which are priced between NGN1.5m and NGN1.9m are i10, Grand, Accent, Elantra and iX35, while in the truck and bus segments the 10-ton HD160, seven-ton HD 120, five-ton HD78 and three-ton HD65 as well as 28+1-seater Hyundai County bus and 30-seater Stallion County bus are now being supplied to the market.

The West African conglomerate, the Stallion Group-owned multi-vehicle assembly plant, had in July announced the commencement of locally produced Hyundai range of vehicles having inaugurated and rolled out the first set of made-in-Nigeria Nissan automobiles in April. Hyundai Motors Nigeria Limited (HMNL) plant managing director Tokunbo Aromolaran said the vehicles are certified to the world’s highest automotive operating standard – ISO/TS 16949.

“ISO/TS 16949 is the highest automotive operating standard in the world and its benefits include improved quality processes at the facility along with streaming supply chains both leading to a better overall product,” he explained.

The plant had supported its ambitious growth plans by prioritising the need for a faster and more efficient environment to facilitate concurrent product development and support a rapidly changing requirement for a vehicle programme, Aromolaran affirmed. He said: “Today we are glad to inform Nigerians that we have delivered on our promise to make available affordably priced vehicles – thanks to strong-willed President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and the indefatigable supervisory roles of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment headed by Dr Olusegun Aganga.”

The plant director added that the first phase of delivery, which has already begun, establishes a system of record for the complete vehicle programme which will gradually be expanded to meet the ever-increasing demands for functional vehicles in Nigeria.

“Prospective customers can now walk into any of our dealership showrooms nationwide to buy value-driven made-in-Nigeria Hyundai certified vehicles. Hyundai i10, Grand, Xcent and Elantra are elegantly crafted functional cars with eye-popping styling, good fuel economy, and fantastic driving experience with modest starting price that is affordable to every desiring buyer,” Aromolaran assured.

Parvir Singh, group managing director, Stallion Automobile Division, who received the made-in-Nigeria Hyundai vehicles on behalf of the sale & marketing division of Hyundai Motors Nigeria, described the achievement as a milestone in the history of Nigeria’s automotive industry.

He later announced starting price of NGN1.594m for the Hyundai i10 and NGN1.990 for the Grand, urging customers to take advantage of the price and drive a certified made-in-Nigeria Hyundai car.

Mr Singh oversees the sales, marketing and dealer development arms of the Hyundai Motors Nigeria and he is responsible for creative and imaginative marketing strategies to develop new and existing customer sales and brand support.

Stallion Motors dealers in Lagos, Warri, Asaba, Anambra and Abakaliki have also commended the initiative, saying that this would expand customers’ options of below N2 million range of vehicles.

RoyalRoy: What's bad about saying the truth as it is?

All the posters before you said the bitter truth. Should we be parting our leaders on the back when they are seriously messing up?

Is that how you live your life? Licking other people's asss so as not to hurt their feelings ?

Be a man and stand for the truth always no matter how difficult and hard it is. That is what defines a man!!

Shalom.
Your just typing nonsense. My comment had nothing to do with feelings. Or licking ass.

It's all about facts. If the Americans see it fit to share defense funds with Uganda, ghana and Rwanda. ( countries with very questionable corrupt/shady governments and institutions)

Uganda- very corrupt. Government has history of abuse. Also history of using child soldiers.
Ghana- very corrupt and is a poster boy on how NOT to run your economy
Rwanda- though Rwanda has made great improvements economically Kagames government has also been very oppressive towards opposition and anyone who speaks ill of his government. Has played a role in assassinating journalists and opposition members in Rwanda and even outside the country.
Plus lets not forget rwanda and uganda have been caught assisting rebels who are destabilizing the congo.

So with all that What makes it right to skip Nigeria? Jonathan with all his faults is not as bad as the leaders of these countries.

nigeria is one of the worlds leading peace keeping nations and a country that does and has done a lot for Africa. So it's logical to work closely with such a country if one is looking to further peace in Africa.

I swear Nigerians can sometimes be some of the most stupid people you can ever come across. They think by by speaking ill of nigeria in every situation they are enlightened and forward thinking when Infact it's the opposite.
