What a waste man this guy is. I've seen him on videos, with beads on, acting like he's pro-black - but very primitive and loquacious in the way he carries himself. And I still remember when I first saw that toxic website on BBC, during the Xmas bomber saga. Back then, they had paypal donation link - and I did donate to that rubbish website, hoping that it will be about educating black youths and projecting a great image for Africa, with proper investigative journalism.
Only God knows who fund them now - it might be CIA via all the non-governmental organisation the US runs all over the globe to control the press and as a tool for imperialism. And since they're based on New York, and they never report anything against the US government - that might be plausible.
Sahara scumbags, I need a refund of the £50 I donated to that website in 2011, for harassing the great one, Robert Mugabe.

your not far of the off the mark in regards to their funding. Sahara reporters is actually funded by the ford foundation. The ford foundation has been accused of working with the united states govt and the CIA in the past. Their other source of funding is the Omidyar group. Its another organisation run by french billionaire Pierre Omidyar.

Politics / "40% Of The Weapons Seized By The Boko Haram Chad Are French-made" by davitogreat(m): 3:40pm On Mar 05, 2015
AA / Yaoundé / Anne Mireille Nzouankeu

Approximately "40% of the weapons seized by the armed forces of Chad fighters to Boko Haram are French-made, "said Minister Chadian communication Hassan Sylla Bakari Ben, visiting Cameroon.

The Chad does not mean much for "one country as the supplier of arms Boko Haram" said Ben Bakari, during a press conference held Wednesday in Yaounde.

The Chad holds images of weapons and ammunition seized from Boko Haram fighters, said the minister, adding: "my country shows these images and will continue to show that those who make them know that these weapons do found not where they should be. "

Faced with these statements, Cameroon's Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma, this along with his Chadian counterpart, has insisted that "no African country makes weapons. All African countries buy weapons from countries like France, Russia, the United States "to justify the fact that French-made weapons falling into the hands of Boko Haram.

The Chadian minister for three days, living in Cameroon to harmonize the communication between the two countries in the fight against Boko Haram.

Among the resolutions taken by the two ministers after work meetings, it was decided to adopt a strategy of war in cyber-communicational trend against the Nigerian armed group, and, in particular through "setting up a media monitoring between the two countries with coordinated response strategies, "" the establishment and permanent animation cells at national strategic communication and cybernetic tools for simultaneous presence of content related to activity on the war front ", they jointly informed in a statement read to the press.

The start date of implementation of these resolutions, however, has not yet been given.

Chadian troops are currently positioned at the far north of Cameroon, near the border with Nigeria. These troops are in support to Cameroon in the fight against the armed group that multiplies incursions in the region.

The plot thickens. One thing about the Nigerian army is that we never buy our weapons from France. Most of our weapons used to come from America and the U.K. Though with the recent arms blockage by the west our weapons are now coming from Russia, China, Belarus e.t.c

Also sorry for the rough translation. The article is originally in French

If you give the president a c then I will say u r utterly bias, Northern Nigeria always have good roads so I won't credit GEJ on that, corruption went up virally under his watch and unemployment rose at least 3% depending on ur source, yes the rail lines are trying now but instead of the lines to be upgraded it was patched up. In 4yrs time those rail lines will stop again.

Nigerians deserve better especially looking at the rate of unemployment considering that many of us are robbed looking for jobs some died in search of jobs.
Nigeria isn't caused, Nigerians deserved better, me have decided to vote for change!!

now your biased. What do you mean the rail lines will die in 4 years? Your just praying for failure to justify your own candidate.
On top of that at the moment a bill has been sent tothe national assembly for the privatization of the railways this year. Dont know how true it s but I have heard that dangote is looking at the western rail line (Lagos-kano)

Again my stance on jobs remains. Nigerians now do not have less jobs available when compared to the times of obj, abacha, babangida , buhari e.t.c. Also Nigerias uneployment figures are some of the most useless in the world. This country has never provided enough jobs for its citizens since our independence. I personally dont even believe our unemployment rate is 30%. Our true unemployment rate in my opinion is closer to 70% and we have been around that range and even higher for decades.

When it comes to corruption going up under him, I call Bull. You mean the phantom 20 billion that sanusi said was unremmitted by NNPC in 1 year? or the phantom 30 trillion naira or when you convert it to dollars 178 billion dollars that soludo claims went missing under his watch?
Those 2 guys just created that noise for political reasons. This is because Nigeria does not even have 20 billion or 178 billion to steal.
Do you know what would happen if those amounts of funds really went missing? Do you know what would happen to our banking sector if 20 Billion dollars was taken from Nigerias economy within the year? Do you know what would happen to the flow of money in our economy? Do you know what would happen to interest rates?
A lot of you guys just think that the federal govt stores our money in some vault and then releases the funds when the want to. When our govt makes money from oil sales or when they acquire tax revenue from FIRS or make profit from other govt agencies that money is stored with CBN, and CBN deposits it in partner bank accounts of our major banks under CBN. (GT bank, Access bank, UBA bank, Eco bank e.t.c) Those banks then use those funds to run themselves, finance many of their deals, assist in supporting govt policies like the SME fund, and provide loans to people like dangote, interswitch e.t.c The money the federal govt makes is basically injected into the cycle of money in our economy.

Then one might wonder where exactly is the corruption in Nigeria. Look no further than contracts for infrastructure development. A lot of these contractors in tandem with some govt agents inflate the prices of contracts and share the loot with themselves.
An example is a certain governor was said to have spent 1bllion naira on full scale road construction and rehabilitation. At the end of the day it was found that the contractors just patched up the road with cement and left.
That is the corruption in Nigeria

He said alot of things, but you almost brought a bible to prove one point, so am asking you did he lie about unemployment too??

Its more about where we stand as a nation not about any party, 30% of 150miliion is staggering if that number is true I think GEJ shouldn't have been thinking of running for another term

unemployment has always been high in this country. Do you really think Nigerians had jobs under OBJ, Under Abacha, under babangida? under Buhari? Tell me about any large scale manufacturing that was going on in their times? What large scale employment jobs did we have in the service sector? was there any large scale mining in their time? what about I.T Jobs? did we have any? what about jobs in agriculture? did we a have any agricultural jobs in their time?

No leader in the history of Nigeria has invested more in employment generation than our present leader. Now you can critique his polices but at least compared to them he has put in effort to deal with our employment issues.

On top of that how many of the state governors are even making an effort to create jobs for their inhabitants?

When you look at his points on refinery I agree the govt has dropped the ball. WHen it comes to schools, the states are in charge of primary and secondary. So look at your state governors. The federal govt is only in charge of tertiary institutions and gej has just been average in that department.

The workers not being payed at the end of last year is true but that was because of the security system kicking in when funds were about to be diverted. The state government workers were officially payed their salaries for December in January.

When it comes to pipe born water that is the responsibility of the state governors. Here in cross river state, Calabar and a some of our local govt areas have pipe born water from the states water board. (though some people feel the water is unaffordable, esopecially in the LGA areas) So governors in other states should sit up to their responsibilities.

When it comes to roads, depending on where you are in the country there has been noticeable road improvement. Especially in the north and south west. The east and the south south on the other hand have been neglected in my opinion. The only major road construction i know of going on in the south south is the east west road which currently stands at about 70% completion from last i heard.
Now could the govt have done better in road construction?

ofcourse!

i personally feel the speed of road construction and rehabilitation in Nigeria is way too slow.

last is transportation. the rail lines are now working the lagos-kano route, so is the portharcort to gombe route, abuja to kaduna has been completed as well and is waiting for commissioning. also the kaduan intra city railway that goes from kaduna to kafanchan and terminates at gombe is also running. ALso the ajakouta warri line stands at 90% completion. ( i am also missing one more rail line)

also when it comes to external debt i dont have too much of an opinion on it.

If i was to rate Jonathan I would give him a C. He is just average. But that does not give anyone the right to distort facts just to make a point.

for those of you that cannot see the full article in business day(you have to pay) here it is

http://businessdayonline.com/2015/02/vat-fetches-treasury-n803bn-in-2014/#.VPN4YfnF-So

As falling oil prices force government into policy redirection towards tax revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT) –a form of consumption tax, yielded approximately N802.95bn into Nigeria’s VAT pool account in 2014.

In 2013, actual VAT revenue was N802.67bn against government’s VAT revenue target of N945.28bn. The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) surpassed the preceding year VAT revenue by N28million; while it came short of the 2014 government target of N849.33billion by N46.38bn or 5.46%.

BusinessDay checks show that in the first-quarter (Q1) of 2014, Value Added Tax yielded N212.38bn into government coffers. In Q1’14, the VAT revenue target was set at N211.36bn.

Out of the N212.38bn actual VAT revenue in Q1’14, N41.27bn was realised by Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) as import VAT revenue; while N171.11bn was revenue from non-import VAT.

In Q2’14, VAT yielded N197.25bn into government treasury. NCS import VAT revenue was N50.36bn, while non-import VAT revenue was N146.89bn.

Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy by GDP-size recognizes VAT pool account which is the subject of horizontal revenue sharing.

Section 40 of the Value Added Tax Act, as amended, provides that proceeds of VAT account should be allocated on the basis of 50 percent to the States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); 35 percent to the Local Governments and 15 percent to the Federal Government.

The provision of Section 40 further provides for the principle of derivation of not less than 20 percent to be reflected in the share of States and Local Governments.

While many African countries are considering putting VAT into their tax systems, analysts say, Nigeria VAT administration system falls below international norms.

Nigeria’s VAT rate of 5% is much lower than the global average rate of between 18% and 20%.

A look at some African countries VAT rate shows: Algeria (17%); Benin Republic (18%); Botswana (12%); Burkina Faso ((18%); Cameroon (19.25%); Cape Verde (15%); Central African Republic (19%); Egypt (10% (standard), 25% (luxury goods); Gabon (18%); Kenya (16%); Mauritius (15%); Morocco (20%); Nigeria (5%); Senegal (20%); South Africa (14%);Tunisia (18%); and Zambia (17.5%.

In the third-quarter (Q3) 2014, VAT revenue was N192.08bn. Details of this figure show that Nigerian Customs Service import VAT revenue was N48.76bn while non-import VAT revenue stood at N143.31bn.

In Q4’14, N201.24bn revenue came from VAT. Non-import VAT revenue was N155.58bn, while N45.66bn was realised by the Nigeria Customs Service as import VAT.

In a recent move which received approval and knocks from a cross section of Nigerians, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the country’s finance minister and coordinating minister of economy, said N480bn would be generated into federal government coffers through taxes on luxury items as well as stoppage of abuses of investment incentives, such as exemptions and waivers.

“We need to reform our tax system. Tax systems are meant to be responsive. We need a ‘living tax system’. Government should be able to treat tax as a fiscal stimulus, particularly as a country seeking growth”, said Eben Akinyemi, principal partner Stransact Partners.

Akinyemi said, “We need to reduce taxes and not going back to the people who find it difficult to pay taxes. Government should first enforce compliance of tax, than introducing more taxes.”

HERE ARE IMPLICATIONS
(1) NIGERIA HAS NO REFINERY
(2)NO BETTER SCHOOL
(3)NO BETTER HOSPITAL
(4)WORKERS WERE NOT PAID TOWARDS THE END OF LAST YEAR
(5)NIGERIA EXTERNA DEBT HAS RISEN TO 10.4 TRILLION
(6)NO PIPE BORN WATER
(7)UNEMPLOYEMENT IS ON INCREASE NOW 30%
(coolNO GOOD ROAD
(9)NO TRANSPORTATION SERVICE
(10) ETC
LET THOSE WHO HAVE EAR TO HEAR!

FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE

So much FALSE INFORMATION IN YOUR POST

First of all Nigeria's crude production in 2014 averaged 2.08 million barrels a day and not 2.5 million.
http://dailyindependentnig.com/2015/01/nigerias-crude-oil-output-hit-2-08mbpd-2014/

second brent crude averaged 110 dollars per barrel in 2014.
Nigeria exported 2.08 million barrels of oil per day.

2.08 * 110= 228800000 (that is two hundred and twenty eight million dollars a day.)
multiply that by 365 = 83512000000 ( that is 83 billion five hundred and twelve million dollars per year)

but wait, according to the deal we signed with the international oil companies, Nigeria gets 60% of the proceeds while the oil companies themselves get 40% of the proceeds.

Figure 1 shows that the NNPC holds 60% in all the joint ventures except the venture
operated by Shell, in which NNPC holds 55%.

go to page 5 to see proof (highlight the pdf in your browser and scroll to page 5 to see proof)
file:///C:/Users/KEAA/Downloads/CAR10_ARTICLE32_143756024.pdf

here is another piece of proof (highlight and paste in your browser)
https://books.google.ca/books?id=Vy7TBAAAQBAJ&pg=PA207&lpg=PA207&dq=nnpc+60+%25+revenue&source=bl&ots=1Af2h7RVCO&sig=pbMeDmMaXimK3DVW71K5Osj0EO8&hl=en&sa=X&ei=oX3zVKD7OMWRyASekoGYBg&ved=0CEcQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=nnpc%2060%20%25%20revenue&f=false

so that is 83512000000 *0.60 = 50107200000 ( fifty billion one hundred and seven million and two hundred thousand dollars.)
This is the amount Nigeria actually made from oil sales in 2014 after the oil companies took their cut.

But wait, the federal government does not get all the oil money. After all according to our revenues sharing forumlar, the federal govt keeps about 52% of the proceeds while the states and local governments share the remaining 48%

At the moment, under the current formula as recommended by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and fiscal Commission (RMAFC), local governments receives 20.6%, states 26.72%, federal government 52.68%

http://nigerianobservernews.com/19112013/features/features5.html#.VPN_gPnF-So

SO that means from the 50 billion Nigeria made this year from oil sales the federal govt could only keep about 25-26 billion dollars while the rest was shared between the 36 states and the local governments in the federation.

Now to convert 25 billion to naira at the exchange rate of 155 you gave = three trillion eight hundred seventy-five billion naira
as opposed to the 15 trillion naira you claimed the federal govt accrued in 2014 from oil sales.

next you claimed the FIRS made 4.69 trillion naira in 2014 as VAT. That again is FALSE.

They actually made 803 billion naira as VAT in 2014.

As falling oil prices force government into policy redirection towards tax revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT) –a form of consumption tax, yielded approximately N802.95bn into Nigeria’s VAT pool account in 2014.

http://businessdayonline.com/2015/02/vat-fetches-treasury-n803bn-in-2014/#.VPN4YfnF-So

but wait the vat account is also subject to horizontal revenue sharing.

The provision of Section 40 further provides for the principle of derivation of not less than 20 percent to be reflected in the share of States and Local Governments.

http://businessdayonline.com/2015/02/vat-fetches-treasury-n803bn-in-2014/#.VPN4YfnF-So

so that means from the 802 billion naira FIRS of Nigeria made in 2014 the federal govt was only entitled to about 402 billion naira. while the rest was shared with the states and local governments.

When it comes to immigration and Customs I dont have the sum of what they generated, but from your faulty analysis of our oil receipts and our tax revenue I have no doubt that your numbers are false as well.

Now i am certain soludo is an i.d.i.o.t. Nigeria might have a 100 trillion naira economy but the government does not even have access to 10% of it due to our inability to create a solid tax base. There is no way the Nigerian government can mismanage what they cant even get their hands on in the first place. 90% of the funds our government has access too comes from NNPC. It is why Nigeria is considered a mono economy and why people have been calling for government to diversify her sources of income.

The F91 is equipped with one 76mm gun and two 30mm guns. With the capability to carry 70 crew members and a helicopter aboard, the vessel can reach 40km an hour. Rear Admiral Yin Zhuo of the PLA Navy said that the 1,800-tonne vessel has certain stealth features to defend itself from potential enemy attacks. He said that the radar section on the vessel is approximately equivalent to a 500-ton warship. It can be detected by the radar only when it is very close to an enemy.

US law firm confirms Obanikoro’s case against Sahara Reporters
Senior Partner and founder, Joe Tacopina exclusively informed Pulse that the firm had indeed been retained by Obanikoro.

US law firm, Tacopina and Seigel has confirmed that it has been hired by Former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro in a court case against online news platform, Sahara Reporters.
Senior Partner and founder, Joe Tacopina exclusively informed Pulse that the firm had indeed been retained by Obanikoro.
“I can confirm that the Senator [Obanikoro] has retained my firm to represent him in a possible lawsuit against Sahara Reporters,” Tacopina said via email on February 12, 2015.
Obanikoro is suing Sahara Reporters for defamation of character after the news platform released a recording which allegedly featured him, Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose and Senator Iyiola Omisore discussing plans to rig the June 2014 elections in the state.
The former minister of state is also suing Punch Newspapers Ltd, Premium Times and Festus Owete, the General Editor at Premium Times, in a Lagos court.
Tacopina and Seigel is famous for its defence of celebrity baseball player, Alex Rodriguez after he was suspended from Major League Baseball on doping allegations.
The firm is based in New York where the offices of Sahara Reporters are also situated.

Politics / David Axelrod’s Political Consulting Firm Far More Involved In Nigeria Election by davitogreat(m): 11:03pm On Feb 09, 2015
A political consulting firm founded by Obama administration confidante David Axelrod has been far more involved in backing controversial Nigerian presidential candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari than previously disclosed, according to a series of emails obtained by the Washington Free Beacon and interviews with sources on the ground.

Axelrod’s firm, the Chicago-based AKPD, has admitted to doing work on behalf of Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC) party in the past, but claimed to have ceased its ties in March 2014 after the Islamist terror group Boko Haram kidnapped hundreds of Nigerian schoolgirls.

However, emails sent between senior APC party members and advisers show that contrary to the firm’s claims, AKPD has quietly continued to perform political work on Buhari’s behalf as he fights to unseat current President Goodluck Jonathan.

With the controversial elections now delayed for another six weeks amid security concerns related to Boko Haram, sources on the ground in Nigeria are beginning to raise new questions about AKPD’s work on behalf of the APC and Buhari, who previously rose to power in the mid-1980s after leading a military coup.

AKPD’s ties to the APC first sparked controversy in March, when Boko Haram’s terror campaign attracted international outrage and shined a spotlight on Nigeria’s problems combatting terrorism.

Under pressure from the press and negative attention, the AKPD told reporters in March that it had ceased its work with the APC.

“AKPD worked with the APC from December 2013 to March 2014,” AKPD spokesman Isaac Baker told the Washington Times last year. “We helped them as they worked to form a new political opposition party and create a platform in advance of their first national convention. We were no longer working with the APC when the Boko Haram kidnapping of the young girls took place.”

However, AKPD’s Baker admitted on Monday that the firm worked again with the APC in December 2014.

“AKPD worked with APC from December 2013 to March 2014, at which point our contract ended. Nine months later, in December 2014, the APC re-hired AKPD for a 3-week engagement to help the party in organizing announcement events,” Baker told the Free Beacon in an email. “That was our only involvement with the party since we completed work in March.”

“That project is now complete and we have no ongoing relationship with them,” Baker said.

The internal emails sent between APC advisers over the past several months and obtained by the Free Beacon confirm that the work with AKPD continued after March 2014.

In a series of messages between senior APC officials and advisers from September 2014 to late January 2015, AKPD polling and other work are repeatedly discussed.

“The meeting went well and the report well received. [Gov. Rotimi Amaechi] will meet with the AKPD team tomorrow to discuss the facilitation of the event but no dates fixed yet,” APC member Olubunmi Adetunmbi wrote in one September 23 email to top Buhari adviser Kayode Fayemi.

AKPD’s work is again mentioned in a separate chain of emails sent between Buhari’s running mate, Yemi Osinbajo, and adviser Fayemi.

“I also think the AKPD surveys also clearly showed that the South West is the battle ground for this election,” Osinbajo writes in a discussion about boosting election turnouts for the APC.

A third email chain from Jan. 21 shows APC leader Nasir El-Rufai discussing an “October 2014 AKPD poll” that he hoped to disseminate to “the team.”

Requests for comment sent to several APC figures mentioned in internal emails were not returned by press time.

Sources on the ground in Nigeria and familiar with how the elections have been shaping up say Buhari has run an uncharacteristically disciplined campaign.

“They have run … a well disciplined message campaign, running on a clear and singular message of change,” said one source who agreed to discuss the matter only on background. “It sounds very familiar to another campaign some Americans might remember from seven years ago.”

While the APC has had trouble displaying unity in past election bids, the current campaign has showed few signs of dissent, the source explained.

“It strongly points to coaching they ordinarily would not have had in past elections,” according to the source. “That’s really the clearest sign that I’ve seen and other have seen that these guys are running a Western-style, Western-directed campaign that has identified a message through polling and research.”

While Buhari has positioned himself as an agent of change, critics point to his controversial and oppressive rule over Nigeria in the 1980s.

Buhari’s military government was known for harshly cracking down on civil rights, arresting opposition forces, and intimidating critical journalists. Human rights activists routinely criticized Buhari’s military rule. Buhari was deposed in a 1985 coup.

Other sources on the ground and familiar with the APC’s campaign say that the party has been trying to keep AKPD’s ongoing work quiet. It is rumored that AKPD employees are being housed in an APC compound located in Lagos, according to multiple sources.

“The sense is they’re being hidden currently in Lagos,” said another insider on the ground who would only speak on background. “They’re trying to keep a very low profile.”

AKPD’s close ties to the Obama administration also has given rise to criticism from those who see the White House as meddling in the elections.

“They have been particularly careful not to be seen at all because of the perception of the connection between Axelrod and the president and what that would convey,” said one of the sources quoted above.

I get your point ,you make sense ,but you cannot build a country this way,you need to produce

Yeah your correct. One needs to provide incentives to produce, but you must do so without banning imports.
If you want to encourage production, you get the energy problem fixed, provide easy access to credit and encourage backward integreation to create an ecosystem. you then top it off by raising tarrifs on imported goods to make them uncompetative in your market place and discourage smuggling.

You banned and look inwards and become efficient and not killing local markets.for instance you buy Southafrican chicken in a southafrican shops in Nigeria.does that make sense.what will happen to the farmers. You wear imported shoes !Thats a huge market of 170million people that have to wear shoes ,if you close the borders people will wear what is produced in Nigeria and you will make the shoe manufacturer richer to buy more machines and expand and create more jobs.when you buy italian shoes you take the money back to the manufacturer in italy Not the Nigeria

Wish it worked that way but it does not. All that will happen is the price of shoes, chicken and all banned products without sufficient domestic production in Nigeria will rise (supply and demand) and the average Nigerian will be unable to afford it. Also at the same time if you think the manufacturers will be able to bridge the demand gap that will arise due to ban of importation in a matter of months you will be disappointed.
It will take years to bridge the gap.
On top of that this will also create an incentive and lead to an increase in smuggling of banned goods across the borders, which will always be sold at discounted prices compared to the market. (A great negative to the economy)
Politics / Minister Kicks Off Gombe Kafanchan P’harcourt Train Service by davitogreat(m): 12:12am On Feb 02, 2015
CITING numerous economic benefits to the people of North East in particular and Nigeria, Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar inaugurated the Gombe-Kafanchan-Port’Harcourt and Gombe-Kafanchan-Kaduna intercity train services at the weekend.

The Minister, who declared this at the Gombe railway station Sunday said the series of such commissioning in the last few weeks, followed the massive transformation of the rail transport system by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the National Automotive Council (NAC) Mr. Aminu Jalal, an engineer, has pledged that the purchase of used cars popularly known as ‘tokunbo’ by Nigerians would become a thing of the past by March this year as the country would no longer see the need for them.

Jalal said at the weekend during the closing ceremony of the auto workers training organised by the council in partnership with SURE-P and SMEDAN that the council is working with a South Africa bank and other partners to introduce a vehicle purchase scheme which is expected to be operational by March. He added that the step would automatically put an end to the importation of used cars, as people would find it more convenient and rewarding to purchase new cars without unnecessary bottlenecks and stress.

He said as a result of the restoration of the services in the last couple of weeks, a lot of interest and hopes are being rekindled and confidence in the President’s transformation agenda is being heightened.

The occasion yesterday was also used to commission five number 68 seater air-conditioned coaches which is yet another milestone attained by the administration of Goodluck Jonathan in the transformation of the railways.

The Minister reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to the restoration of full services along the Gombe-Maiduguri corridor as soon as the security situation substantially improves.

In his speech, the Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo commended the Federal Government in restoring the railway transport system saying it has the capacity of creating 7,000 jobs in Gombe alone and would generally boost economic activities.

He added that it would also cut not less than 50 percent cost of transportation of goods and services from the Gombe corridor to other parts of the country.

Explaining the expanded operations of the NRC in the last couple of weeks, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Adeseyi Sijuwade said extension of train services from Port-Harcourt through Middle-belt to Gombe in the North-East, communities and towns like Gombe, Alkaleri, Bauchi, Liman-Katagum, Bununu, Tafawa-Balewa, Heipang, Kuru, Kafanchan, Gudi, Mada, Lafiya, Agyaragu, Makurdi, Moi-Igbo, Eha-Amufu, Enugu, Afikpo, Ovim-Amaba, Umuahia-Ibeku, Omoba, Aba and Port-Harcourt are now fully linked by train service.

He added, “by the extension of the train services from Kafanchan to Kaduna, we have linked up the North-East, North-Central, South-East and South-South regions with the North-West and South-West regions by rail.”

Jalal, who was represented by the Director, Industrial Infrastructure, Mr. Adetoro Kolapo said arrangement has been made for the citizens to be able to access loans at very low interest rates in order to take delivery of new vehicles which he said are already been manufactured in the country.

As part of the steps taken by the council that Nigeria has qualified auto mechanics who can service new models of vehicles in circulation, the DG said the council in partnership with the National University commission (NUC) has developed a curriculum for teaching and awarding bachelor of Engineering in Automotive Engineering (B.Eng) in Nigerian universities adding that a curricula and study texts for teaching auto mechanics has also been developed.

His words, “The council also procured six sets of modern diagnostic tools and equipment for teaching of automotive mechatronics which were given as grant to selected polytechnics offering automotive engineering. Four other institutions were also given diagnostic tools for teaching purposed”.

Jalal also explained that automotive test laboratories under construction when operational would be useful in ensuring the safety and health of Nigerians as vehicle parts would be tested constantly to ensure that operators do not engage in any sharp practices by ways of importation or manufacturing of fake and substandard spare parts.

He said the laboratories would also ensure local automotive content, ensure the good operation and maintenance of Nigerian vehicles and obtain capability of conduct homologation tests. He added that contract for the furnishing of the laboratories with equipment would soon be awarded as the construction had gotten to 95 percent completion.
