PoliticsRe: Nigerians, Others To Close Businesses In Zimbabwe By January 2014 by davywillis: 10:19am On Nov 24, 2013
Hmmm, "Mugabism", I think its not only in Zimbabwe, but in many other countries, especially Africa, where Nigerians are subjected to such
laws aimed at sabotaging our efforts. The problem is nothing but jealousy, because Nigerians are very intelligent at exploiting business
opportunities in foreign lands, and they grow fast, causing indigenous competitors to raise eyebrows. This is an indirect means of asking
Nigerians to leave, but I feel they can lobby their way out if they are unified as a community. The Lebanese over here are masters in the act of lobbying, any administration in place, thereby keeping their businesses moving without hitch.

Another way to find a solution to this, is by getting locals involved in their businesses, giving them some employment quotas in their
establishments, in areas like cleaners, errand boys etc. I will also ask our people to properly check local laws with the help of a lawyer before
establishing in these countries. Example, in Ivory Coast, a foreigner can never buy a piece of land and claim complete ownership. If you buy a piece of land here from an Ivorean, and all documentations processed in your name and the C of O handed to you, their law states that
it is not an outright buy, as it will be regarded as lease to you by the government, and over a period of time (15-20 years), the ownership of that land returns to the government, so there things that should be properly verified before investing outside Nigeria. You can check this site, which is applicable to almost all countries: http://www.doingbusiness.org/ for information on various economies.

I think our government can step up and confront these African countries enacting such laws against fellow Africans, and if possible threaten to pull out from the AU or cut bilateral relations with them. For those of us doing business in smaller African economies, please try exportation, as you make more profits exporting local products/materials to other parts of the world, and you also help that countries economy grow their foreign reserves.

Finally, if we make our country economically sound, these nations will run after us for help. We need a radical change for our nation to be respected.

(na wa oh i no no say this thing go long like dis) grin

Nairaland GeneralRe: Is Destiny Predetermined? by davywillis: 2:08pm On Oct 26, 2013
Yes destiny is predetermined, but we have the power to change it to our advantage. My case study is taken from the story in the bible of Esau and Jacob. Many see Jacob as the man of destiny after he cheated on his brother Esau, but I stand to tell you that in that case Esau thrived against all odds because he took things into his hands, to change that which was written against him that the "YOUNGER SHALL SERVE THE ELDER".

In the story, we later understand that Jacob went into exile sojourning in the wilderness, where he married and became rich, and afterwards sought to return to fatherland, but he was afraid that his brother Esau would do him harm, for the evils he perpetrated against him before leaving the land.

Now let me say that before then Esau had gone to God asking if there was nothing left for him? but God said no. So Esau basically had nothing (blessings) left for him, but with hard work, faith and persistence, he became rich. Jacob on his way back brought gifts to present to his brother Esau, thinking Esau was still where he had left him, unknowing that Esau had moved on and life had smiled on him. Esua on welcoming him rejected the gift and said to him, little boy, I don't need your gifts, and as you can see Am even wealthier that you are.
I have narrated this to say that we can handle our destinies in our hands even when things are on the negative. This all depends on your perception and appreciation of the challenges that comes. You must never give up even when life says no. That challenges that we face each day has the power of transforming us.

NYSCRe: 89% Of Corps Members Can’t Communicate In English -NYSC by davywillis: 4:46pm On Oct 11, 2013
Our students in the tertiary institutions should understand that English is the power language of world and they have to be effective in communication both in the private and public.

The fallen standard of education in Nigeria is worrisome, and should be a concern for everyone, especially parents. As parents we should compliment or add to what our wards are being taught in School. I live in a francophone country, but I make sure that my children speaks my native dialect, reads, writes and speak French effectively, whilst their basic study language is English.

However, our spoken or writing skills in English may not be perfect, but there is always room for improvement, as someone rightly said "that the biggest room in the world, is the room for improvement".
