Travel › Re: A Nairalander Shares Overnight Camping At Lufasi Park Lekki by ddjay: 7:58pm On Feb 28, 2019 |
tourismlove: Once again I teamed up with my good friend Koyejo Sofoluwe(@KINGFISHEREcHo) and a group of tourists for an overnight camping experience at Lufasi Park. We had our last overnight camping experience at Enukunmi Eleko Beach, you can read more about it here https://www.nairaland.com/4943290/nairalander-shares-overnight-beach-camping
This time around it was Lufasi Park. A brief history; Lufasi stands Lekki Urban Forest and Animal Sanctuary Initiative. Lufasi was founded on the 4th January 2013, by Mr. Desmond Majekodunmi as a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to actively participate in the protection and preservation of natural habitats in urban areas as well as to play an active role in the realization of sustainable development programs in Nigeria.
LUFASI has pristine Forest Reserve and Nature Park that sits on 20hectres along the Lekki-Epe Expressway with a nature-themed leisure play-park and animal sanctuary.
Enough of history, now to our camping experience; the team set out for Lufasi from Alagomeji at 3:50pm. The journey was an exciting one; everyone got to introduce themselves and talk about what they do. The journey was smooth and gridlock free.
We got to Lufasi Park within an hour. We started off with a quick tour of the park. We saw the horses, donkeys, tortoise, African civet and wide variety of birds, monkeys and fresh lush vegetation. Honestly we saw a lot of animals but I cannot remember them all. After the tour, we proceeded further into the forest in picking a camp site.
On selecting a camp site, it was now time to set up tents, drop our bags, set up the camp fire and prepare dinner.
After all was said and done, it was time to get down to the business of the day. We played a lot of games, danced, sang, karaoke, ate and networked. Our facilitator also gave us a talk on the importance of spending time in the forest. Here are some of the things He said; camping in the forests helps - Lower stress levels - Lower blood pressure - Increased immunity to sickness - Increased inner peace and happiness
We all finally slept around 4am but were all up by 8am for a forest walk and forest bathing (shinrin-yoku). Forest bathing simply means taking in the forest atmosphere. After our forest bathing, we returned to our camp site to have our breakfast, played some more games, had a talk on the preservation of the ecotourism and finally decamped at 12noon.
Learning Points - Forest camping is a fun activity and should be greatly encouraged. - Other parks in Nigeria should also encourage overnight camping by tourists. - Stop illicit bush burning. - Nigeria needs to utilize her forest resources more.
I leave you with these quotes of Albert Einstein “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better”.
Let our pictures do the remaining talking.

bongolistik: And MTN decided to give me this huge data for recharging my MTN line that I have not used for quite sometime now. I recharged it with N200 and this is how they loaded me with data. As you can see 3GB in my main data balance and 5.8GB in my data bonus balance.
In addition to that, they also gave me 41 minute of call to enjoy. But funny enough I did not see where the N200 that I recharged enter, maybe they converted it to all the bonuses.
You too can get yours

Travel › Re: The Literal Meaning Of Names Of Major Places In Lagos by ddjay: 9:40pm On Feb 27, 2019 |
Biodun556: 1.Ojota Ojota used to be a military settlement in the late 18th century and soldiers practised their shooting there. The area had several gun firing spots and became known as “Oju Ota” in Yoruba which means “Bullet spots”. It later metamorphosed into Ojota which it is called now.
2.Abule Egba This area is on the outskirts of Lagos and got its name from the early settlers who were Egba people from Abeokuta. The area was first called “Abule awon egba” in Yoruba, which means “Village of Egba people”. It later became “Abule Egba”.
3.Apongbon Apongbon is one of Lagos’ most popular markets, and it’s also quite close to the popular Oke-Arin market. It got its name from the then acting governor of the Lagos colony, William McCoskry, who had a Red Beard. The Yorubas who couldn’t pronounce the colonial governor’s name decided to describe him by his red beard and started calling him “Oyinbo to pon ni igbon” meaning a red-bearded man. It later became Apongbon.
4.Magodo Magodo is now a posh area, but in the past, it used to be sacred land. The residents had a lot of taboos and one of them was to avoid using mortars and pestles, “Ma gun odo” which means “Don’t pound it”. It later became ‘Magodo
5.Epetedo Epe is named after the early settlers who were Epe traders. The area became dominated by the Epes and they still trade there until today.
6.Ebute-Metta Ebute-Metta is one of the earliest harbour docks where British ships berthed at. It was a hub for trade and commerce in colonial times. Ebute-Metta is a fusion of the words “Ebute” which means the seaside in Yoruba, and “Metta” which means three.
7.Broad street Broad street used to be one of the longest and widest streets in the city. It got its name from its broadness.
8.Agidingbi The British Naval forces invaded Lagos in 1885 under the pretext of stopping slavery and human sacrifice. The noise their canon made was really loud, and the sound was heard round the streets of Lagos Island. The people described the sound as “A gb din gbinnn”. Which means a loud groundbreaking noise. The name Agidingbi was borne out of this.
9.Victoria Island Victoria Island was also a major hub for commerce and British ships berthed there often. It’s named after Queen Victoria of England who was Queen from 1837-1901.
10.Ikeja Ikeja, the capital of Lagos, is actually an abbreviation for “Ikorodu And Epe Joint Administration”. It was coined by the colonial masters for ease of administration.” What of ojuelegba, and olojukokoro |
