Politics / Eze Duruiheoma Emerges Imo Pdp Chairman by ddonobi(m): 3:20pm On Nov 02, 2010
With the conclusion of the PDP Congresses kicked off on 29th October, 2010 with ward congress, the election of the state PDP Executives today at the Grasshopper International Stadium produced Barr. Eze Duruiheoma [SAN] as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], Imo state chapter. Other executive members include the Vice Chairman, Chief Marcon Nlemigbo, Secretary George Egu, Legal Adviser Chief C.O.C. Akolisa, Chief Magnus Chilaka Treasurer, Mrs Nkechi Mbonu women leader amongst other positions.

Over 1200 delegates were drawn from the 27 LGAs and 305 INEC wards of the state. The voting which started by 9.25 am was preceded by the accreditation of the delegates by the PDP National officers. The election of the PDP executive was witnessed by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Selina Okoh [OON] who acknowledged that the process is in tune with INEC guidelines. Speaking after casting his votes at the election, the Imo state governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim reiterated the need to take power back to the people. He adduced that the one man one vote mantra must be domesticated within the milieu of Nigeria democracy. The governor debunked the alleged newspaper report that an injunction has been secured against today’s election. He disclosed that the elections had the complete backing of the National headquarters of the PDP.

Expressing his happiness on the peaceful and non-violence nature of the elections, he said it was attributed to the leadership of Okwesilieze Nwodo who had mapped out viable strategy for a peaceful exco elections.

In his contribution, Senator Osita Izunaso agreed that the Congress being concluded today has been free and fair. According to him, all the stakeholders required by law for the congress were present. He mentioned the PDP 10 – man committee led by Mallam Adamu Mustapha, the security agencies amongst others.

An observer, Hon Cletus Okpaleke, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy opined that the congress was an attestation that democracy has come down to the grassroots. By this reasoning, the majority of the people came to determine their leader adding that anybody that abstained from election has no followship.

Speaking also Chief Hope Uzodinma, a BoT member of PDP expressed confidence in the process. He expressed hope that the transparent election will produce credible executive as well as ensure the party’s performance in the upcoming elections. Commenting on the orderly manner in which the delegates cast their votes, the leader of the 10 – man Committee from PDP Headquarters, Abuja, Mallam Adamu Mustapha said that his committee was in the state to organise and supervise all the congresses.

He was happy that there were no records of violence or rancour in all the exercise. Speaking also, the Ezinihittee Mbaise LG Chairman, Chief Chinemerem Madu noted that the elections today will stabilize PDP as well as make room for greater progress.  He however stated that from now on, any individual who goes contrary to the party’s dictum will face disciplinary actions as stipulated in the party’s constitution.Highlight of the occasion was the inauguration of the new Exco by Barr. Olisa Metu, South East Zonal PDP chairman.
Politics / Unfortunate Encounter Of Father Eustace Okorie With State Security Operatives by ddonobi(m): 3:33pm On Sep 03, 2010
TO FORGIVE IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY

A BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY, IKEDI OHAKIM, GOVERNOR OF IMO STATE, ON THE ENCOUNTER OF SECURITY DETAILS WITH REV. FR. EUSTACE OKORIE, ON SATURDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER, 2010

Fellow citizens of Imo State,

I greet you all in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

I want to address you on a matter that has inflamed passion in the state in the last few weeks. I refer to the unfortunate encounter of Rev Father Eustace Okorie with state security operatives on Sunday 8 August 2010.

Let me state that the unfortunate encounter was not to my knowledge. It was not ordered by me and did not receive my blessing. But the matter is such that, as a servant of the people, it is my burden to take responsibility. And I did exactly that.

Immediately the matter came to my knowledge, I went with the entire members of the Imo State Executive Council to the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese, His Grace, the Most Rev Anthony JV Obinna, to render an unreserved apology to Reverend Father Okorie and the Roman Catholic Church. I am glad that Archbishop Obinna clearly understood the circumstances and accepted our apology.

That notwithstanding, I hereby once more render an unreserved apology to Rev Father Okorie, the Roman Catholic Church, and to the entire Christians in Imo state and Nigeria.

I do so for two reasons. The first is that as a Christian, I respect ordained people of God, no matter the religion or denomination. My wife was born and bred a Roman Catholic. My mother was born and bred a Roman Catholic. I was raised as a God-fearing Anglican. I have solid Roman Catholics in my cabinet. I have many Roman Catholic priests and Bishops as my personal friends. So it is unthinkable that I would disrespect or order the humiliation of any man of God. The incident is unfortunate and saddens all of us.

The second reason I have to address this matter again is that soon after my apology to Archbishop Obinna, I travelled. In my absence, some mischief makers cashed in on the unfortunate incident to inflame passion through spurious and indecent publications in some newspapers. Like the Archbishop has done, we must denounce such aggravation and those behind it.

I also hereby denounce and dissociate myself and my government from such dangerous antics. Indeed, there is no level too low or too scurrilous for the authors of those satanic publications, rumour mongers and indecent political jobbers, to descend in pursuit of their nefarious designs to pull this State down.

The full page publication under a non-existent Catholic Women Forum has been traced to a former Governorship candidate in the State. We should all note that the Reverend was never stripped nor flogged by anybody.

Let me caution those who want to introduce religion or interdenominational war into an already crude politics of Imo State to stop. Religion and politics have never mixed well. We are all people of Faith. We have lived, married and interacted across denominational lines as one family.

Anybody or group who would provoke sectarian conflict in this state in the name of politics should regard himself as enemy of our people.

Those trying to play politics with the unfortunate incident are the same people whose terror tactics have turned the state into a war front and have therefore induced overreaction in the state security. Let us remember that in this part of the country, a private citizen used his convoy to run a sitting Governor out of the road. In this part of the country, a Governor was abducted from his office. In this part of the country, the official car of a Governor was sprayed with bullets. While not making excuses for any excesses by security men, I want to plead that we must all help in reducing tension in the State to make certain level of security alert unnecessary.

As a servant of the people, I know the burden I carry, knowing the character of politicians in this State. But I want to assure you that as much as necessary, I shall ensure that excesses like this do not occur again.

As Christians we are taught that to err is human; to forgive is not only divine, but our responsibility. Let us shame the devil; let us remember our Lord’s Prayer; let us put this ugly incident behind us and move on as one people not divided, but reinforced, by Faith. At the inception of this administration, we dedicated Imo State to God. We have been building the state together with the fear of God and respect for human dignity.

By the grace of God and with your prayers we shall not be distracted, especially as Imo remains in the hands of God.

Thank you and God bless!

Ikedi Ohakim

Governor

Politics / Re: [b]how Ohakim Brutalized Citizen Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha by ddonobi(m): 10:44am On Feb 22, 2010
This was the same samuelson apology to the governor last year. I wonder how you guys believe quack stories! How can a governor flog, kick and headbutt one man, ONE MAN! IN HIS OFFICE? HABA, Nigerian, We all know how public the offices of public officers look, If he has said it was in a private residence, I would have believed, but not in the governors office, This is cheap Blackmail! Please read the apology letter and forward. Imo must move on!

His Excellency,
Chief Ikedi Godson Ohakim
Executive Governor of Imo State.

Sir,

CONGRATULATIONS.

On behalf of myself, my wife (Chioma), my 41/2 yr old son (Nwachinemerem) and my 21/2yr old daughter (Adannaya), I sincerely congratulate you on your victory at the court of Appeal , Port- Harcourt.

You fought very hard to earn this victory. Nonetheless your Excellency, I want to open your mind to let you know why I decided to be very angry. I am angry for five reasons but I will mention only one which is the purpose of this letter.

His Excellency, my businesses were destroyed in 2007 and as a result, I could not take care of my family responsibility. I was the biggest kerosene dealer in Owerri. I was also into engine oil business. My provision store was also displaced. In this situation, I became helpless.

I personally wrote three different letters and sent them to you through your former Chief Press Secretary and Chief of staff. I was ignored because I was a “nobody”. I said “ok”. Let me prove that I am somebody.

His Excellency, if you call for my statement from the SSS office Owerri, you will confirm my story. I speak the truth always without fear.

I seriously need compensation to start life again. My wife is from your place MBANO. Conversely, you are my children’s NNAOCHIE.

Though I am not a sycophant and will never be one to your leadership, I will henceforth be bringing positive suggestions to move Imo State forward through my write – ups and
articles.

His Excellency, I was offended and I equally offended you and your leadership.

Once again, accept my sincere congratulations.

Yours faithfully,

Politics / Re: [b]how Ohakim Brutalized Citizen Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha by ddonobi(m): 9:35am On Feb 22, 2010
I have followed the story of one Samuelson Ikenna Iwuoha and his alleged manhandling by the governor of Imo State Chief Ikedi Ohakim and I am inclined at seeing a hustler at work. A man with a questionable state of mind suffering from an acute case of illusion of grandeur. Now he has managed to whip up the victims sentiment from the unsuspecting members of the public.

In his last installment in the internet titled: How Ohakim brutalized Citizen Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha, he even described himself as “the Lion”.

So straightaway, here is the case of a man on the street who managed to aggregate popular market place rumours about a state governor and the law enforcement agencies instead of ignoring him, picked him up in Gestapo fashion thereby lionizing him.

From my reading of the incident as a discerning Imo indigene, I tend to believe the story from government House Owerri that the fellow was never brought to the government House, how much more, the Governor’s office. It has also been reported that the governor was out of town on the day in question.

But more implausible is the fact that Samuelson, said to be a kerosene seller was able to remember to the minute details, all that transpired on that day and recollected all conversations (with the governor, the CP and SDS) word for word as he quoted them copiously.

This is what struck me first as I read Iwuoha’s internet posting. The second point I noticed is Iwuoha’s indecorum towards the governor of a state. No where in the world does any sane man disparage a man in a position of authority as Iwuoha has done towards Governor Ohakim and posted on the www for all to read.

There are two things here, either Iwuoha had a very poor quality up bringing or that his mind has a slight dent as some write-up I read have suggested. There is even a third postulation that Iwuoha may have been hijacked by the governors many opponents who are seeking to topple him in next year’s election.

Here is a sampler: Iwuoha had told his 5-year-old son, “Let me go and see that foolish man”, then he asked his impressionable little boy, “Who is that foolish man”, where upon the poor lad answered, “Dr Ikedi Ohakim”.

If this scene truly happened, one can only feel deep pity for Mr. Iwuoha. What a father? And what manner of son is he bringing up? And that tot whom Iwuoha deliriously call “Ogbuefi. I want to suggest should be taken from him and handed to foster parents as a man who teaches a five-year-old to call adults foolish is not fit to be a father.

As a keen follower of Imo politics and media, there is a certain licentiousness in Iwuoha’s attitude reminiscent of a certain Maximus Uba who himself took wanton pleasure in tormenting the Imo governor for the first two years of his tenure with ingeniously crafted lies, garnished half-truths and sumptuous rumours. Is Maximus in cahoots with Iwuoha?

No government anywhere that is free from media terrorists who derive pleasure in showing the world that they can bring a government to its knees. Some make a cheap living in this manner.

Unfortunately, Iwuoha has created a situation of your word against mine between him and the governor which in itself, is rather infradig. But the lesson is that government everywhere must learn to ignore loose canons like Iwuoha and at best, critically put the lie to their numerous petitions by ceaselessly publishing the facts.

Finally, the internet despite its rich advantages to the affairs of the modern man, is also an open latrine where everyone equally goes to poo; therefore, people must read with a lot of discernment, in order to sift facts from fiction and truth from damaging falsehood.
