NanaF:@LadyG and NanaF: Yes, the honeymoon period, that was my first time applying. The reason I asked about the 'outside the box' approach may be seen below. I really do not have a travel history save a back-in-the-days school organized excursion to Lome, Togo via Benin and a visit to my boyfriend now hubby while on a month-long training at Benin too which even is not reflecting on my passport (I told the VO this during the interview). Our friend in the US wanted us to have our honeymoon on him (his family couldn't make the wedding, he did explain that it will be cheaper for him to sponsor us both as compensation instead of him taking off time from work - making monetary loss as a result of the time of his absence - and engaging in a two weeks expenses to, in and fro Nigeria with his wife and kid - he is a Dental Surgeon and my husband was his Bestman for his wedding in the US 3yrs ago, a trip also sponsored by same friend back then) even if we too where planning to travel with our own personal $4000 to spend shopping and all that. I had a N2m fixed deposit rollover investment with FBN at the time, a little less than a million naira in my own current and savings account combined, my husband's bank statement balance was about N1.7m too (I went to the interview with evidence of all this to show we could sponsor our trip even though someone else was offering to do so for good reason but was not even asked whom was sponsoring our trip not to talk of having the opportunity to explain all these, I even had our vehicle papers and that of our properties on me at the interview). My husband has been to the US twice for 2 & 3 weeks respectively in '12 and '14 and did renew his visa early this year, some two to three months before our wedding.... Well, he intends to likely visit without me soon via UAE (we will have 4days there together in UAE before he proceeds while I journey back to Nigeria). I will re-apply sometime later to go vacationing at our same friend's in the US but alone without my hubby depending on when my leave is approved and will be travelling without him too. Just wanting to have a firm grasp of what went wrong on the first interview before I ever go near that Embassy again.... Thanks much |
Greetings house! Dear knowledgeable ones on this thread, kindly enlighten me on the effect of having played for a DV in the past (not that I won and was invited for any interview at the US Embassy anyways) on an NIV application now particularly as touching the "immigrant intent" thing. Had wanted to go on honeymoon with my hubby some couple of weeks after our wedding, I was refused a visa on the 214(b) ground earlier on in the year. If I am actually capable of sponsoring myself (and have intent of doing so myself) but being offered sponsorship by the USC friend of mine (he is very much more able too) I intend to visit, who then is the better options to fill in of the both of us as trip's sponsor in the DS-160 form? To what extent can I use the outside the box approach during my visa interview seeing that lots of grounds and info may not be effectively communicated by me in the DS-160 form, which too may likely not be asked by the VO (I don't want to come across as concealing info or something - e.g I have played the DV before, I can sponsor myself except that defraying the cost of trip is being offered me by my host for an explainable good reason, I need to marshal my ALL-PROVABLE strong/salient points as to my STRONG/CONCRETE TIES to Nigeria on several fronts within the limited interview time since documents are hardly looked at: I and my husband (he holds a renewed B1/B2 visa and has been using his visa appropriately the few times he has visited) have good jobs in the Nigerian context which we have put years into with a whole lot of brighter and awesome prospects on them; have and maintain good savings, current and fixed deposit accounts; landed and other properties; cars, etc)? Would that not mean to a VO that I'm being too forward or desperate if he/she hasn't asked (as would be the case most times too for "God knows why" reason) and I on my own volunteer such info to buttress my case? What does "just not being qualified for a visa" connote? The annotations on the visa represents and means what? Thanks much, I indeed appreciate. Regards! NB: Asking on my wife's behalf.... @Lady G, Justwise, Worry357, NanaF, Chloe7 et al to the rescue pls.... Thanks, thanks. |
(4) If an applicant was not granted a visa (Section 214 (b)) and was told her case was being treated/assessed as an individual one devoid of her husband and their USC friend, what exactly would that mean if she was billed to travel to the US on honeymoon with her husband (a B1/B2 visa holder that has been to the US on two previous occasions - '12 and '14) on their USC friend's expense? And also, I read a line somewhere that says "just not being qualified for a visa", can some light be thrown on this too? Wouldn't that be nice dear VO sir/ma too? Thanks so very much as I close by re-echoing the fact that we really do appreciate you and your constructive handling of NIVs here.... Grateful! |
(3) Must the interview be about sticking to some sort of YES/NO Q&A session, can't an applicant answer using the outside the box approach especially as documents provision ain't really the ultimate (the applicant has them to about the last though) during interviews from studies here and personal experience? I mean exuding confidence and control in all genuity/honesty, marshaling one's pros and reasons to be granted such a visa especially as regards ones STRONG/CONCRETE TIES to Nigeria on many fronts even if not precisely asked - not necessarily waiting to be asked and probably be tossed to and fro without getting to provide her salient points within the limited interview time. Won't that make an applicant come across as being too forward? But then, these however have got to be somehow communicated either way, don't you think sir/ma? |
Oh, okay! Not like this person won or something - never been called to the embassy for an immigrant visa (DV) interview except for a B1/B2 visa interview.... So what should be filled in that section of the DS-160 form if asked whether one has filed for an immigrant visa having played for a DV previously in essence? abujaniv: |
Does |
Thanks, thanks VO.... Will rephrase my questions and make them shorter, breaking them down in bits, just in case they are too long (1) If an applicant has casually had applications for the DV in the past by some body, does this in any way mean (s)he has filed an Immigrant Visa Petition (because (s)he intends answering NO to that question in the DS-160 form filling - it seems to be an attempt to conceal info if I'm correct, though ignorantly in this case, considering your emphasis on being honest with you guys so far) or affect his/her chances for NIV (the immigrant intent presumption thing)? |
Dear VO@Abuja NIV, Greetings to you.... |
Good afternoon VO@AbujaNIV, I |
verrady:Thanks, thanks.... Will send him the link to this page to come read for himself! Nairaland is quite rich with beneficial contents generally. |
verrady:Oh, okay.... Thanks for your guidance! But then, does that mean Newspaper publication of change of name, sworn affidavit and marriage certificate won't suffice for that purpose for now unless they go to Abuja to go get her a new international passport bearing hubby's surname? Even when the one she has in her maiden name is still very much fresh and valid? Will appreciate a response to this, grateful! |
Greetings all! Please, can I source info about PNP here on behalf of somebody? If yes, a quick one then for starters.... One who has processed to the level of having even done his medicals, is asked to submit his child and wife's passport and all that, will the wife then be required to go do another passport being that the one she has currently is on her maiden name? Thanks for referral or/and your guidance if any here. Great week ahead and much appreciation! |
DebsMed:Any link, thought or idea pls.... Thanks, thanks! |
