Apple make only premium phones, they own their os, so if u like iOS u got to buy an iPhone, no any other choice. Samsung on the other hand use Android, if u want a premium Android phone then there are many OEM's to choose from. Samsung compete with Google pixel, Huawei, HTC, OnePlus, LG, Sony, etc in the premium flagship phone category. So for the fact that Samsung is going neck to neck with apple in flagship phones sales tells u a lot. And don't forget there are many flagship killers out there now that sell for $500 and can stand toe to toe with an $800 Samsung flagship phone. It's a very cumbersome market for Android while apple are having it easy with iOS.

You can Google and calculate yourself. Apple flagships (from iPhone 7, 7+, 8, 8+, X) sell more than every OEM's flagship combined. And trust me, you don't want to start from iPhone 6, 7s and pluses. Those ones sold 100millions

When it comes to flagships a.k.a. premium phones, every OEM can pull all their flagship sales and it won't eclipse IPhones. This is why despite Samsung controlling the phone market, Apple is the most valuable and get more profits off their flagships. There was even a time the best selling Samsung phone was J series and that didn't still pass an iPhone

The reason other OEMS compete is their variability in budget range. Apple doesn't offer that and that makes users not to see any alternative. They control the Phone World Profits that way...

U are missing the point here. They are talking about first quarter of 2018 which is from January to April 2018. Check sales between May and September tell us which phone sells the most. Galacy s8 and s8 plus were released in April 2017 and it's the most selling of Samsung phones. It sold from April till September and then it's natural it falls while the iPhone x which was released in October takes over. Galacy s9 was released in March 2018 and it sold 8 millions units in 1 month while iPhones sold 12 million units between January and April. Now think about that. And then tell me which phone u think will sell more in the second quarter especially now that iPhone 8 and x are nearing then end sales cycle until the next iPhone is released. And just so u know Samsung sold 41 million units of galaxy s8 and s8 plus.

Xiaomi's latest flagship, Mi Mix 2s cut corners from camera to screen to Gorilla glass 4. The phone had to cut cost by borrowing camera and ceramic design from previous flagships. The price is still $550 (about 200k). What do you think would happen if Xiaomi has same ad market as Huawei, AMOLED, All Gorilla glass design, software features, camera R& cost, etc etc? Nokia 7 plus at 140k for a mid range and better quality control from a company that has been on the map for 15 years+ is a VERY VERY fair deal. Processor and RAM ain't everything...

I can equally list some aspects where Redmi 5 plus outshines Nokia 7 plus, offering close to the same value at half the price. If you want more camera quality and greater processor power and more premium feel, I will pitch Redmi Note 5 Pro (which cost about 90k only) against Nokia 7 plus. Huawei started like Xiaomi with lower priced phones that felt non-premium and cut corners just to get among the best selling phones. With time, they expanded their Research and Development unit, upped their advert budgets and these costs significantly increased their phone prices. What do we have now? Huawei phones that are priced same or more than Apple and Samsung flagship.


Oppo's premium division, Oneplus started same way, cutting corners and reducing quality control just to give customers raw specs. Now the starting price between Oneplus 1 and 5t can be seen. Oneplus 6 will enter the $600 tag


Xiaomi is a typical example, just as other Chinese OEMS out there that have phones cheaper than Xiaomi with same specs. You can't put a price tag on quality control and premium looks. Xiaomi will increase their phone prices significantly within the next 3 - 4 years and you'll see a mid range phone in the 120 - 140k price tag. You'll leave that and purchase the next OEM (Yiaomi or Ziaomi) and the cycle continues.
