MrCuteking: Someone asked me this question please if you have an answer kindly quote me.
I was previously denied few months ago, while I was trying to book another appointment I saw two sections to select from with warning sign on wrong selection.
>>Regular >>Previously refused.
What are the conditions for each selection? If you were denied in the last two months pick previously denied, If two months have passed since your denial pick regular/ If the date available for regular exceeds the two month rule. |

Kalkaothar: I tried scheduling a date in Abuja now, first available date is August 22. School resumes August 20 and classes start 26. Will the proximity of the interview to class start date(school would have resumed) not be an automatic ground for refusal? Considering the fact that i may not be granted an expedited date... Should I just keep checking later for available dates in both states? Should I pick a date now and hope to reschedule later? What is the process for rescheduling anyway? What are the chances that I will get opportunity to reschedule?
Please help out! Oh wow, it's past your start date. But I think you should either pick it and hope to reschedule or wait for dates to come up. Remember you have one shot at rescheduling after that you'd have to pay another fee. |

Kalkaothar: @Deefav, please i'm trying to reapply too but no appointment available. If i don't get a date in Lagos till the end and I have to defer till fall 2020, will the MRV number for the fee I paid still be valid? Can't you defer to spring 2020 instead, they said the visa fee is valid for a year, so count 12 months from the time you paid. You'd have to use it within this period. |

magnificent1: Alright. Many thanks for the feedback. Haven’t decided though. Are there likely chance they provide Available appointment for the previously denied? I honestly don't know if they will. Last time a date came out was about 3 weeks ago, on the 17th of June. I don't know if they'll still release any, we can only hope and pray. But if you can go to Abuja, you should. I mean if you desperately want to travel in August. Go for it. Like they say, location doesn't matter. |

I don't want to go to Abuja and be rushing anything, I want to continue everything in lagos. So if dates don't eventually open up I guess I'll just have to defer to spring. |

magnificent1: 26th June I meant, this year. That was my first time. Can you please advice if I should apply for emergency appointment! (How certain on getting the date). Available date now is Aug 26th (School resumes Aug 27th). Or do you think/ advice I should apply for the US embassy in Abuja! Appreciate your response. I've been trying to reapply too, and I keep seeing "no available appointment" so how come you're seeing 26th. Are you sure you aren't checking under the "regular" category. I'm not sure the previously denied can apply for an emergency appointment either. (I really am not sure about this) even if we could you'd have to pick a date first before applying for an emergency appointment. But if I'm right and there are no dates available (assuming you made the mistake of clicking "regular" instead of "previously denied" your best option (if you're in a hurry ) would be to check if there are favourable dates in abuja. |

USMissionNGRA: Hello Etherealbeing,
New appointment dates are released all the time. If you cannot get one in time for your school start date, you are welcome to schedule an appointment for the first day available and then request an emergency appointment. However, because we really want to make sure everyone gets a fair shot at an interview in time for their school start dates, we cannot guarantee that the emergency appointment request will be granted if you have recently been denied. Can I book an appointment under the " regular " category and thereafter choose the emergency appointment. Or do I wait for dates under the "previously denied" category. Because no dates have been released for "previously denied" in a long while and I'm getting really worried. I don't know if I'll be denied for misrepresentation If I book under the regular category |

CptCharlesVane: Show that you accept responsibility for your shortcomings, even though many times the decisions are largely subjective. When asked say: "I am better prepared to present my case as I was unconvincing the last time" (Yes, take the blame like Akon and don't say it's the VO who didn't give you a chance)
In my opinion , you didn't own up with your response about admission into a university in Nigeria. You should've been upfront saying "I was slightly below the cut-off for admission and didn't qualify for an admission ..." Saying quotas, although true, appears to absolve yourself from your responsibility in the outcome. Don't blame JAMB or the system or anyone at interviews.
At interviews, you turn negatives to positives in interviews, so to follow up a response like that above, say something like: "... so it made me doubly determined to secure a scholarship at a much better and equipped university in the US" (which you did btw)
You should anticipate such questions when there are gaps in education and employment history. A typical question is "What have you been doing since xxxx?" Also, let what you say be consistent with what was filled on the DS form. I noticed after submitting, you no longer have access to the information on the form, so print the review before submitting and practice answers for specific questions.
There are general questions and there are specific questions tailored to each individual according to your profile. Use yours to raise questions and provide answers that you'll be confident about. For example, if you responded on the form that you have family or relative in the US, anticipate questions such as: "how long have they been in US?"... etc for something like this you shoud have at least 5 possible questions
It's never easy being on the spot but the good thing is that the more you practice the more confident you become.
Best of luck with your next interview This is so helpful! Thank you so much. I'll note these down. |

You don't say because someone was slow in answering your message that you will stop knocking the door. I give attention to people who knock harder and stay. It's a way to they show they mean what they are asking for. Please learn this.
My apologies if I did not pay enough attention to you. I waited for the new transcript you said you have. I hope that you will make the best plan for yourself. LagosismyHome: You need to be careful when you respond back or tell a lie .......... There no point lying for the sake of lying . The VO stays in Nigeria , do you know if he is very knowledgeable about Nigerian Education system to enable him or her do their job well. To get into Nigeria universities there is no quota system as such . You either score well and enter or you dont. also there are so many options ranging from Federal, state to private Universities . ...
Its fine not to have entered since 2017 because of X and Y reason but that reason you gave . Would ring a wrong bell to a Vo who is familiar with Nigeria education system ......... Anyway take a deep breath , it will be fine . you are still young and its your first experience . So just review that the school is best for you and apply again . Also have a plan B in life , its always good practice not to put all eggs in one basket in everything you do Thank you very much. What I was trying to explain was that schools here have a low number of student intake if I'm not wrong most times they reveal the number of people they're taking in for specific courses. And I honestly wasn't trying to lie or anything I applied to unilag in my first year, had 296 and I was so close to the cut off but I wasn't given. A lot of people with lesser scores were offered alternatives, I was not. Perhaps I should have told the VO that I just didn't meet requirements. I was on the spot and I just said what I thought was best tbh |

Brown2Green: Every single question asked was to measure your level of interest for study or perhaps your immigration intent.
You must be able to account for the gaps in order to convince the VO.

Saying you didn't meet the quota of people admitted in Nigerian University is a big shot to your foot. If I reapply and I'm asked what changed or I'm asked this question again, will I be affected if I change my answers? Goodness I didn't even get to talk about any other thing. I was expecting more questions. As he just passed my passport back to me I spaced out, I literally walked out like a zombie. |

Good morning ☺ my visa was denied today at 6.30Am in Lagos. I was interviewed by the old white man at window 1. me: Good morning VO: pass me your passport and i20. passed VO: when did you graduate high school? Me: 2017. VO: Are you in any school here? Me: No VO: Why? What have you been doing since Me: I applied to schools here after I graduated in 2017 but I didn't get in and then I started SAT and Toefl tutorials in 2019. VO: why didn't you get in Me: um (I said something like) universities in Nigeria have a set quota of people that they admit per year and unfortunately I didn't get in. ( it was along the line of this) VO: so you took SAT the whole year Me: Trying to explain the duration for which I attended SAT and Toefl lessons when he cut me off and said " your visa has been denied" I was really upset, the whole thing happened really really fast. I'm scared of getting rejected again ☺ and dates are far gone. I picked McNeese state university. Had a waiver and scholarship of $11902 Deficit of $15k SAT 1330 Toefl 109 |
