it depends, but excessive beating sometimes hardens children. it instills the mindset of "beating doesn't kill " in them. I think the best way to discipline a child is by speaking sense into his head though there are some children that spoken words have no effect on them. at the end it all boils to the nature of the child. some children might need more spanking less speaking and vice versa.
