I think it's important to credit people with attempting to engage with their culture 1000s of miles away.

They will not always get things right. But attempting is good.

They’re not like us. They’re nothing more than a young Brit off-shoot when it comes down to it. Try as they do.

Interesting

MissRaine69:
Culture evolves it’s not static and that evolving is not linked to one factor
The same argument you are trying to bring was attempted in the US
Attributing the rise of Black on Black crime on hip-hop, the raise of blacks using drugs, high numbers of blacks in prisons.
Hip-hop is not just about music it’s a movement that tells the story of the journey the black man and woman have travelled, their triumphs, struggles and success. Blaming erosion of Nigerian culture on hip-hop is an easy cope out. Nigerians are to blame for what’s happening to their culture.
There are Nigerian kids with two Nigerian parents who cannot speak their mother tongue all in the name of advancement.
Yet you will never find a Chinese, Indian, Pakistani or Japanese kid inept in that dept regardless of how wealthy the parents are.
How is Hip-hop to blame there?
Family / Re: If You Get Someone Pregnant, Must You Marry? by DejiSantos: 7:02pm On Jun 21, 2018
I agree.

If you get a woman pregnant your responsibility is to the child marriage it totally optional.

Mindfulness:
You MUST take care of the pikin.

Everything else depends on the individual circumstances surrounding the situation.

It is greed and gluttony killing us.
You want to eat pounded yam, and you decide to eat it like a man who will never see food again.
We have stopped walking, and now bikes / okada are to the rescue. How will you not pile on the pounds?

I think we can be quite hard on our children. I agree.

There must be balance.
Culture / Re: Is Nigerian Food Killing Us? by DejiSantos: 4:26pm On Jun 19, 2018
I also think portion size is a big thing we need to educate ourselves on.

BabaRamota1980:
Whats killing us is not the food but change in lifestyle. Please lets not demonize the food.

1. After certain age metabolism slows down and what is normally processed into energy for muscle becoms fat for tissues. We dont exercise to keep the metabolism burning.

2. Intake of impurities and toxins, anti-bodies. What is benefit of beer to health? None! Yet we consume bottles of beer everyday, seven days a week. What is benefit of alcohol spirit to health? None! At any gathering bottles of assorted spirits have become status symbol. We pose and take pictures to be seen guzzling bottles of toxins.

3. Insufficient intake of water. Water is expensive so we ration it and end up with less than recommended daily intake.

4. Insufficient sleep. Loss of power leads to heat and trapped high temperature in living space. Due to security concern we do not open windows or doors, leading to very poor ventilation and poor beathing pattern that weakens the lungs.

5. Add to above, exhaust fumes from generators and road vehicles entering and clogging lungs and bronchial passage.

These are just few examples out of many. Our food is good, our living habits are poor. So the body becomes defenseless and the immunity has been weakened already in the daily toil that a small sickness end up snuffing out life.

Culture / Re: Which Language Is The Most Difficult? Igbo, Yoruba Or Hausa? by DejiSantos: 12:27pm On May 31, 2018
I agree

Once you get the pronunciation correct.

It becomes a lot easier I think.

bigfrancis21:

True, Igbo is quite tonal and the main issue new speakers face is accentuating the words properly. Once you are able to do so, the rest comes so easily.

I was watching this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_h0di1JW1g

And it seems like the guy was really struggling to pronounce Igbo words. It was quite funny in some parts grin grin grin

Grammatically Igbo is not that difficult to grasp, but the pronunciation can be tricky?
It would be interesting to hear peoples opinions.
