Well u deserve it just as every other Niger Deltan Please I applied online for the 2014 NDDC pg scholarship. I read history @ UNILAG, and gained admission to study International Relations @ coventry Uni in the UK. Is there any chance I can be selected for the scholarship? Second, I feel I should be awarded the scholarship based on other considerations apart from academic merit. Our family, Yellowe family from Bakana, Kalabari, Rivers State, has always contributed immensely towards true development of the region. Our progenitor, Chief India John Yellowe (1810-1900) can be described as a Niger Delta warrior of old. During the dark days of inter-tribal rivalry, he sucessfully established the Yellowe family or IYALLA POLO war Canoe house into a formidible military unit. He co-founded Bakana with Chief Will Braide. But he also established factories and other houses on an island in the Sombreiro river in Rivers State called Yellow Island named after him. His son, and my great grandfather, Chief Gabriel Amakiri Yellowe, (1865-1939) was the first native from our area who served in the British colonial army. He was the Interpreter for the signing of the Port Harcourt agreement of 1913, which was entered into between British colonial authorities and the natives, which were of Ikwerre and okrika stock. It is on the basis of this that the British started building the old port harcourt, known as "Town" and oither areas such as Diobu, and of course, the old port. His son, my grandfather Chief Nelson Gabriel Yellowe (1900-1983) was a seasoned first republic politician of repute. He was a house of Rep member between 1954-1959. He and others like Anthony Enahoro championed the independence call in the house. He co formed the C.O.R movement in the house that agitated for the creation of Calabar, Ogoja and Rivers states to be carved out of the old Eastern region. He also met with Abubakar Tafawa balewa, PM of Nigeria and set the modalities. Place for the establishment of Niger Delta Development Board in 1961 (after the Henry Willink Comission report on the plights of minorities. My father, mr Daobu Nelson Gabriel Yellowe, 1940-till date, is a retired foreign service officer. He has worked at various nigerian emabasies and high commissions abroad. He entered some problems in south africa over a report he wrote about Saro-wiwa, and how Abacha was a tyrant. He was wanted by the Abacha gov. And as a result did not return to Nigeria until after abacha's demise. I have tget this scholarship as I feel I deserve it tooo.[/quote] |
It's very sad that prospective leaders of tomoro reduce themselves to name calling and mud slinging...its quite sad rajrascal: |
cabaye: the new m.d is hardly around is very true but his movement has been a myth.Mrs. Atakho was retired after the interviews and she is no longer the director of EHSS. So the delay has nothing to do with her . The list left her office more than two months ago. |
Why give yourselves unnecessary heart and head ache over the scholarship? With or without it life goes on. So rather than worry unduly over what we have no control over its best to channel resources to something else. ..If the scholarship comes, all glory to God but if not, Hakuna Matata. ... One love y'all while we keep up with the endless wait |
The cause of the delay is indeed finance as a source confirmed that the list is with the MD ans has indeed been with him since the start of August but NDDC lacks the funds to prosecute the scholarship. . cabaye: the cause of this delay is not finance. the person in charge of scholarship has been absent and very sick and he is likely to travel out very soon for treatment. |
If you don't wanna do anything don't call others names or discourage them. Some people were born cowards and wud die cowards...sone people were born to be led and can never be leaders. Whoever lacks the balls to do anything about the NDDC situation shud shut up and allow those with the balls do what's on their mind . EMMABC1: On a second tot, I decided not see u both in Abuja for a reasn and I don't 've any regret. Anyway I don't give a hood what u think or spew here. I hope I 've given a useful advice to a reasonable n responsible persn including Rajrascal. |
How much is it going for ? bjmotors12: FULL OPTIONSSSSSSSSSSS |
Chima used to be the agent that helped scholars process their visa promptly ..I dont know of he is a staff of NDDC but I know he usually gets the visas for scholars in 3 days maximum |
TheFavoredOne: From that naijahotjobs I was made to understand the list came in so late that the management gave room for applicants to choose schools of Jan resumption dates. And I called the number tagged to Mr Osmond but A woman picked disclaiming such name and relation to the NDDC.Mr Osmond was the previous director of education health and social services before the immediate past director Dr. Christy Atakho (who has been retired ) took over... So calling his official number wud have been met with a no response as he is now the director of NDDC Calabar. The list has been with the MD for over two weeks now so that's no longer news . What is news however is the sad fact that they claim that the presidency has not signed the budget for education when we all know that NDDC budget is signed at the beginning of the year. |
It won't be a problem but I suggest u err on the side of caution and have the balance of 300 in your personal account |
Dantidote: Bro, r u certain of Wednesday as d D-dayU are not exempted. ..point of correction , UKBA is NOT affiliated to any school..If u cannot show proof of fund nothing for you . For those going to Coventry University this is not a problem as the school fees is about 11k pounds leaving you with about 7500 pounds which is more than enough |
linton99: thanks bro..I wana ask, what if the balance u have on d scholarship letter is just 100pounds short of the required amount, will d embassy not allow that or they will insist u show the balance in ur accU need to show proof of funds (7200pounds) as living expenses. ..that's the minimum amount for a year for those in London and for those outside London the proof shud be 6000 pounds |
First of all... I am a past recipient of this scholarship and I can tell u that NDDC does not have any affiliation with the UK embassy as getting the visa is entirely up to you. As regards the TB test, I suggest you book a test at one of the test centers and do it whole waiting . If the balance of your scholarship stipend is less than the required amount needed for upkeep than I also suggest you have an alternative plan. I believe the list will be out this week though even people working in the education department have no idea when the list will be released. As of late last week the list was already with the MD for approval so Fi gers crossed |
