This morning i tried to check out the latest news on Al Jazeera and the image above is what i saw. The websites of the Arabic news network, Al Jazeera, were hacked on Tuesday, apparently by a group sympathetic to the Syrian regime. Al-Jazeera‘s English and Arabic websites were affected by the hack, made by a group calling itself al-Rashedon, or “the guided ones”. “This is a response to your position against the people and government of Syria, especially your support of the armed terrorist groups and spreading false fabricated news,” the group said in a statement blanketing aljazeera.net. “Your website has been hacked, and this is our response to you.” In a statement, the network said its external services had been “compromised”. It added: “The company that operates them quickly resolved this, though some users may continue to experience issues for a while longer. We thank our online community for their patience and support.” Commentators said they were not familiar with the group that claimed responsibility. “I have not heard of this group before,” wrote Ahmed Al Oman, a Saudi journalist and blogger, in an email to the Guardian. “Previous attacks of similar nature have been claimed by the Syrian electronic army.” Aaron Zellin of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a thinktank based in Washington DC, said: “I think the hackers were just trying to make a statement and get their voices heard. It will get them attention, if just for a few days.” Zellin said there were suggestions that the hackers may be a cyber arm of the Shabiha militia loyal to Syrian presidentBashar al-Assad, but that such a connection was difficult to prove. Since the start of the Arab spring, al-Jazeera has made a name for itself as one of the leading news organizations covering the region’s instability. Unlike some other state-controlled media, al-Jazeera has been known for aggressive coverage of dictators and oppressive regimes. But it has also been accused of inconsistency and bias. A number of staff resigned from al-Jazeera earlier this year, accusing it of being biased against the Syrian regime but in favor of Bahrain, a Gulf state neighbor of Qatar, where the network is based. Al-Jazeera is funded by the Qatari government; critics say it follows its sponsor’s foreign policy objectives, although the broadcaster says it is independent of government control. “Over the past year al-Jazeera has become more sectarian and more biased in what they cover and what they don’t cover,” said Zellin. “They don’t cover issues that don’t fit the Qatari foreign policy narrative.” http://tekpee.com/qatars-al-jazeera-website-hacked-by-syrias-assad-loyalists/ www.tekpee.com |
His name is Saheed Adepoju and he is 29 years old. He is the inventor of the Inye (‘Inye’ means ‘One’ in Igala Language), a tablet computer designed for the African market. Mr Adepoju has a background in software development and is a Sun-certified Java programmer. After doing a first degree in mathematics and computer science in Nigeria (FUTMINA), he completed another degree in advanced computing by research at Bournemouth University, in the United Kingdom. In a chat with the BBC’s series African Dream Saheed talk about his invention: “The Inye is a mobile internet device. It gives you access to the internet; it allows you to play media files and watch movies. What we have is an 8-inch device, a device that is half-way between a laptop and a mobile phone,” The tablet runs on the Google Android OS. Other specifications include: Screen: 8-inch capacitive touchscreen; Processor, 1Ghz; Connectivity, WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth; I/O USB, micro USB, SD card slot (up to 32Gb), 35mm sound jack, HDMI, SIM card for 3G; Battery 5hrs; Storage, 8Gb internal, 16Gb in the box. The company through which the tablet (which was first launched in 2010) was released is Encipher Group, a company he cofounded with web developer Anibe Agamah. The first 100 units of the Inye were built in China and, after receiving feedback from its users, a second version was launched in May 2011. Part of the reasons why it is believed that the Inye will compete effectively with other Tablets in the market is its price which stands at about $350 (£225) as opposed to around $700 for an iPad. The product, Saheed has said, is designed for the African market. However, they have been having a few hitches with its acceptance: “We face the challenge of getting people to listen to the various propositions. We’ve been to a number of private investors and also to the government,” Saheed explained. click here and find the latest interview with the founder: http://tekpee.com/inye-nigerias-low-cost-tablet/ |

Well, I am not sure about Websoft but I do think they import the hardware and control the software part. Even the software will be powered by android OS only with very little twitches. Also they promise to bring some business applications that I think will be specific to the Nigerian market. For most hardware makers, I think it is difficult assemble in Nigeria because of the lack of infrastructures. Thanks for your comment anyway ![]() |
