Some on Nairaland even say Cardoso knows nothing and that he's only CBN Governor be ause he is Yoruba. You just have to shake your head. Recently, Mr Otedola said Mr Cardoso is the best CBN Governor in Nigeria's history. I have been saying that here on Nairaland for the best part of a year. Now, Mr Elemelu is singing a similar chorus. Many African Central Bank Governors are rushing to learn the mini miracle that the Nigerian CBN has performed in the past 2 years. If you give me the option of Mr Cardoso, Mr Sanusi, and Mr Soludo,I will pick Mr Cardoso without blinking an eye because an unsung general who has led an army in a near-calamitous war, and won, is better than a flamboyant general who talks a good game but has never been to any war. |
You and who. You are not serious. |
As Minister under Mr Jonathan, I remember how she was always referred to as 'billionaire businesswoman'. On top government money. |
I didn't know cheques are still in use. I haven't used or been given a cheque in more than 5 years. |
I would guess that not more than 30 % of Nigerians in the UK make up to £50,000 per year. The man's suggestion that most Nigerians in the UK don't make up to £200,000 is off the mark. I don't think up to 2% of Nigerians in the UK make up to that amount. Even amongst the native population, very very few make £200,000 annually. Na so UK easy? |
Oops, that means Obi / Kankwaso CAN'T happen. |
Election litigation lawyers must be rubbing their hands in glee. The drafting quality of that provision is poor, perhaps due to the draughtsmen being under pressure to accommodate all sides. A genius-level, confusionist compromise provision conjured by Mr Akpabio and his APC Senate team that says a lot but will bring little to no change on election day. The provision has more holes in it than an 18-hole golf course. It is a gift to lawyers as I expect election-related disputes centred around the interpretation of this provision will plenty yakata. |
highchief1:Bullet proof 2026 Escalade is going for nearly N750 million in Abuja. Depending on the spec, a new bullet proof Land cruiser can cost up $500,000. Even if we assume that most of the ones in Nigeria are in the $250,000 - $300,000 range, with import duty alone easily exceeding N100 million, excluding shipping and other costs, you can see that a N650 million price is not off the mark. |
The man that wants to 'save Nigeria and the masses' came to a protest in a bullet proof vehicle costing close to N650 million at todays' price, wearing a white attire costing perhaps 3 to 5 times the minimum wage of the people he claims he wants to save. Also, last year, he announced to the world that he was hungry, and that he was living off his wife's income. So where has he found the money to maintain this horrendously expensive vehicle? As Minister for Transportation, Mr Amaechi wasted humongous resources to build a railway to a foreign country (Niger Republic) in the crazy belief that Northern politicians would make him President of this country. He conveniently forgot to use those resources to save the Nigerian masses then. You just have to laugh at these hypocritical politicians, and feel sorry for their deceived followers. |
Putindbutt:Oops. You are a tough man o. |
osato45:If devaluation automatically results in high foreign reserves as you claim, why does Zimbabwe, which has the most devalued currency in the world not have the largest foreign reserve in the world? And why are countries around the world not rushing to devalue their currency if doing so automatically results in a higher foreign reserve and a stable economy. The way some of you come to social media to pontificate about what you know little about is laughable. |
iichidodo:Without that 'daft' speech as you call it, we would still be parabulating like Argentina infinitely searching for a solution. With the economic turnaround now manifesting, that speech has turned out to be one of the most inspired speeches ever made by any Nigerian in the history of this country. For clarification, speeches declaring Nigeria's independence, and speeches declaring and accepting the end of the horrible civil war are a thousand times more important. However, at an economic level, Mr Tinubu's speech declaring the end of subsidy will be talked and written about for decades to come because of the monumental damage the fraudulent subsidy was doing to Nigeria, and how that speech sounded its death knell and marked the start of an astounding turnaround. By the way, Mr Tinubu, a first class degree holder in Accounting not only knew exactly what he wanted as President, he has the super strong will needed to carry out his plans. |
Brilliant. Non oil exports also breaking records. A truly magnificent turnaround by Mr Tinubu's government. The World Bank is now projecting Mr Tinubu's mini economic miracle to other countries facing similar challenges but that have not found a way out e.g Argentina, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and many African countries among others. This is the first truly methodical government Nigeria has had for a long time. |
There should be no unreviewed transmission to IREV. It could plunge this country into a terminal crisis. What happens if Sokoto, Zamfara and other Muslim majority Northern states upload fake 4 million votes each unto IREN without ward - level review. What if Lagos uploads 5 million votes,or Rivers 4 million. You might say, INEC has the power to review results afterwards. Can you imagine how much time (days or weeks) to review a fake 6 million votes down to an actual 1.8 million votes. Now imagine if INEC has to repeat that for 25 states? Just think of the chaos that will happen if and when INEC revises actual vote results and another party's candidate is declared the winner in a State. In that scenario, imagine the person legitimately declared the winner is from the ruling party and the massive cries of rigging that will follow. This sort of thing can result in a nation wide crisis that is unquenchable. Ofcourse that is what some people have been clamouring for - a civil war. It just doesn't make sense to lock yourself into a mandatory transmission of results in a country with so many edge cases. In law, the word mandatory once used has no comeback. There is no interpretation of it that allows for any unforseen scenario. That is a dangerous word to use in the context of elections in today's Nigeria. In rhe future, may be. |
This is another reason why if you're from the South or Middle belt, it would be dangerous for you to allow ADC to win come 2017. That party is all about one sectional interest. |
I trust Mr Tinubu. He won't be pushed around. |
Why must everything be on Federal government's neck in Nigeria. Collection of snake venom is something the States should be doing. Or are the snakes not on State lands? Each venom collection centre will not even cost N1 billion to build. Can Mr Obi point us to the one he built when he was Governor. All he knows is blame, blame, blame. |
Mr Obi is the least impressive of the potential major presidential candidates. He rarely says anything on the economy that comes from original thinking. He said we should copy Argentina. We should copy Indonesia. We should copy this and that. Now that Mr Tinubu has applied his own original policies and steadied the economy to global acclaim, Mr Obi has gone quiet on his Argentina advice. |
Orisirisi. President banging Minister. Don't call for resignation o. That's for Europeans (excluding the French) and Americans. |
I have not really followed the former Governor's saga though I saw the picture in circulation. What I struggle to understand though is why Mr Oshiomole's massaging a lady's foot amounts to 'taking the citizens for granted' according to you. You mean a Senator can't have a girlfriend? I just don't understand what the big issue is. Do you know how many politicians, Governors, lecturers, doctors, religious leaders, community leaders, and humans generally are doing something personal with the opposite sex all over the country, and indeed all over the world as I type here. That a picture of them doing so is not in the public domain doesn't mean it is not happening. Do you even know if Mr Oshiomole has a wife. It was an amusing photograph. Nothing more. |
Major infrastructure projects everywhere. Best President/head of state since Nigeria's independence 65 years ago. |
The surprising ones are Osun, and Ondo. I didn't even know they had cinemas in those states. I am sorry o, my people from Osun and Ondo. Respect. People in the South West have a long history of going to the cinema that dates back to the 1970s. It is possible other regions don't have it as much. |
A Fri who works with a major bank told me his bank has not granted any loan in a particular state for several years. He said people and businesses in the State don't pay back loans. Lending money in Nigeria is a treacherous business. |
LeopardX:Shuuu....bro, relax o. This should be resolved by the appropriate federal government agency, and if either is still not satisfied, they head to court. That means no oil exploration in that place for about 10 years at least. |
Those who criticise those asking this sort of question are wrong. Where is all the over 3 trillion Lagos state budget being spent on ![]() Also why can't local government be assigned the task and revenue to handle street and market cleaning. Why must most waste management tasks be centralised and controlled by the state government that is clearly incompetent. The State government should build incinerators and let local governments collect the waste. The government has radio and TV stations. Instead of these entities discussing politics and gossip all day, they should be spending a lot of time on public education around issues of public sanitation. And why are people who drop waste of any kind in streets and other illegal places not immediately arrested, taken to a mobile environmental court, charged and, if convicted, fined. I just don't understand how we are governed in this country. That's why I don't bother to vote. 99% of Nigerian politicians are incompetent. |
Taxes are actually not going up for everyone. There is a lot to explain. Your best bet is to get an accountant. |
To think that some Southern politicians are joining ADC and clamouring for another Northern muslim President so soon after Mr Buhari, is just incredible. The want to subject the South and all Nigerian Christians to continuing subjugation by those people. What policies - economic, security, or any other has Mr Atiku got that is so great that subjugated Southern politicians believe will magically transform Nigeria that it is worth subjecting their people in the South to more subjugation ![]() As a minimum, we need regional government. But it is difficult to see how the government can delivere it since getting the votes required to make the constitutional changes will be impossible as Northern Senators and House of Rep members will vote against such proposal. Nigeria feels like a trap for Southerners. No way out. |
So you people all came together in ADC without an ideology. 'We are still thinking about it' Orishirishi ![]() A shared Ideology should be the basis for coming together under the canopy of a political party. How can you be promising Nigerians this and that, only to find out you people have no Ideology yet. So, what brought you people together in that party ![]() It is clear, it is all about gaining power for their personal interest. Nothing more. |
PDPdestroyer:I suspect the electricity companies channel most of the electricity supply to areas where people pay. As I just can't understand why some areas get such regular supply and other areas get so little. Since the companies are all private now, it is all about profits. They send their electricity to areas where people have meter and load up well. It's unfortunate that so many are denied the same benefit, but that's capitalism. It can be brutal. I think the more people obtain electricity meters, and pay to load up, the more the electricity companies will be financially stable, which in turn will encourage gencos to set up additional power generation capacity. |
mascot87:Same here, only that even during the alleged national grid collapse, my light rarely went off for more than 10 minutes a day. I don't even think about electricity anymore, as it is almost always there. My generator has barely worked since about March last year. This year so far, I have not put it on once. I have certainly never had this type of experience with electricity in all my life in this country. So, I personally rate the current government very highly for that. That is not to say the whole country has the same amount of light that I have, but the reality is that since Nigeria's independence, there has not been a time that the whole country had regular light. |
Best President in the history of Nigeria. "The price of a kilo of rice has nearly quadrupled since May 2023". That's clearly incorrect. I understand a bag of rice can be bought for around N60,000 today. Is the Economist saying a bag of rice cost N15,000 at the time the last government left office? |
The irony - South Africa and Morocco, the 2 most taxed countries are also the most developed in Africa. Most Nigerians who can afford to pay tax, particularly the politicians and the rich generally barely pay any tax. You can't say you want development but then hide behind 'oh the government doesn't provide infrastructure but they want me to pay tax'. Let's pay the tax first and hold the government to account afterwards. No tax before infrastructure = perpetual underdevelopment. |
