SmartPolician:
Oga, concern yourself with basic things every reasonable country has. Fix power; leave
The government has made steady improvement in the power sector.

From about March this year, it is rare in my area for us not to have power more than 23 hours each day. Infact most days, the power outage is less than 10mins per day.

That's a remarkable improvement from having power for 6 hours per day 4 days a week in the past.

I know it is not the same all over the country, but that is my personal experience.

The government deserves some credit in this area. If all the governments in the past 30 years were making this type of improvements, by now the electricity narrative around the country would be completely different.
Politics › Re: Will Matawalle Be Taking Instructions From Christopher Musa? by DeLaRue: 11:37pm On Dec 02, 2025
Mr Matawalle's position has effectively been terminated.

In law it is called constructive dismissal.

That happens when your employer, without asking you to resign or sacking you, knowingly takes an action that leaves you with no option but to leave.

They want him to leave voluntarily, but if he doesn't get the signal, they will sack him.

I expect Mr Matawalle to be gone from this government soon.
Politics › Re: Moshood Adeoti Quits Omoluabi Progressive Group by DeLaRue:
Isn't that the former Osun State Governor's group.

Basically, ADC.

In the lead-up to 2027, the pressure on any significant SW personality that joins ADC will be unbearable. Even their family members will ask them, WHY?

I went to Ilesha 3 weeks ago, I was shocked that the Tinubu government has started reconstructing the Ilesha to Ibadan Road with concrete. And I hear the work will also head in the other direction from Ilesha to Benin. That's one incredibly long road, basically Benin to Ibadan.

Resurfacing with concrete also started from Shagamu and I am sure that will continue beyond Ijebu Ode. Another major Road project.

The entire stretch of the Ore - Akure Road is being reconstructed and expanded as we speak. Expansion and concrete work is proceeding at a fast rate. This is a road that only gets touched once in 30 years or more. Now, it not not only being touched, it is being expanded beyond recognition.

The funny thing is these major works are not even publicised by the government, and I hear similar major Road works are going on across all regions.

I doubt Nigeria has experienced the scale of Road works going on around the country in at least 40 years.

So it would be astounding and sheer wickedness for any SW person to say they want to replace Mr Tinubu that is doing so much with another Northern president so soon after Mr Buhari. So that many of these projects can be abandoned?

Politics › Re: God Will Punish All Southern Governors Who Wore Aso Ebi To A Security Meeting by DeLaRue: 3:04pm On Nov 28, 2025
I don't think wearing Aso Ebi means they're not serious.

Ogun State is the home of Adire-making in Nigeria, and the Governor wears Adire a lot. I don't see anything wrong in asking the other Governors to wear something associated with his state.

They probably have a lot of these Agbada sown and kept in storage. That probably explains why they tend to appear ill-fitted. They're are not made to each wearer's size. I don't think they had to wait for the agbadas to be sown before calling the meeting smiley
Politics › Re: Governor Dapo Abiodun Meets With Security Chiefs (Photos And Video) by DeLaRue: 12:52pm On Nov 28, 2025
Seems very Coordinated. Yesterday, Mr Sanwolu was pictured meeting with the security people in Lagos.

Today, we see photos of Ogun State having a similar meeting in his own State.

Now we hear that 70 people from Niger, Chad etc with no ID have been arrested.

Aje ke lano, omo ku leni.

Yorubas are usually slow and cautious to react. It is how we are brought up. They'll wait and wait and wait, give you all the time in the world to change your ways. When you have exhausted all the goodwill, then they treat your phuckup.

Northern Governors should not stand in the way of the adoption of State police by any state that wants it.

Those Northern Governors should be careful. The mood even amongst the most moderate / liberal South Westerners is changing. We do not want to live in an ungovernable country that some in the North are creating.

I have not met any friend or associate in the last 2 weeks, even amongst those who rarely talk about politics, who are not fed up with living in the same country with some people.

State police is central to how we keep our communities safe. We do not need people from the North telling us whether or not we can have it.
Politics › Re: Insecurity In Africa : Where Is China? by DeLaRue: 4:56pm On Nov 26, 2025
China is only interested in what it can get from you. If you like as a country, kill yourselves through wars, terrorism etc, they won't bat an eyelid.

As long as they can move the natural resources they need out of your country.

This has been happening for years in Congo.

In Nigeria, a lot of the violence and killings in the North are connected to illegal mining. Who are usually behind those illegal activities? Chinese individuals and companies.

If you read Ghanaian news, those ones are facing unrelenting amount of illegal gold mining by who? Chinese people. I watched a you tube video last week about the illegal chinese mining operators even having their own illegal army (armed private security).

Africans willingness to collude with foreigners to pillage their resources in return for a small change is not new. It helped the Europeans to colonise them.

The Chinese are doing exactly the same, only this time the educated youths are so distracted by social media nonsense they don't even realise the scale of the resource-rape going on.

As long as the educated ones who are supposed to raise these issues can buy cheap things from Ali express, they think life is so gooooood. Ok o.

Business › Re: Business Owner Percentages Across Nigeria’s Geopolitical Zones by DeLaRue:
Osariemen12:
I don't not believe this. Edo State has more business owners than the five southwest states without Lagos.

This data is nonsense.
Edo is not even a match for Oyo State.

I was in Benin city a couple of weeks ago, but the place looks so rough and dilapidated, I kept asking myself, what could possibly have happened over the years. The roads are ok, but not great. Most buildings look quite old. The GRA is meh. Only Airport road (very good), GRA (just okay) and Ring road appear fitting, though I didn't travel far and wide in the city.

Overall, I expected much more of the great Benin city. It is certainly no where near Ibadan, let alone Oyo state, let alone the South West.

Also Edo State only has one city, though I stand to be corrected. Others like Auchi are towns.

Lagos holds the key to the future of the Yoruba economy.

It must be protected.
Politics › Re: Why US Airstrikes On Bandits Will Make Nigeria Security Crisis Even Worse by DeLaRue:
The idea of a foreign country bombing Nigeria without being invited is surely the ultimate humiliation.

If USA does it today, Russia will do it in the future if it thinks its interest is being undermined in Nigeria.

After Russia, may be in the future South Africa will bomb Lagos if it feels MTN is being overtaxed, or perhaps Egypt will come in, bomb Southern Nigeria because it believes Muslims in Northern Nigeria are being disadvantaged economically.

Ofcourse the average Nigerian can't see beyond his nose. Jubilating at the prospect of, and clamouring for an uninvited foreign country to bomb your country encapsulates the short-sightedness of many black people. They lack the depth to think long term.

If Mr Trump wants to assist Nigeria, he should help the country with satellite and advanced mobile technology and face recognition intelligence, help the country put structures in place to reduce leaks, and stand with Nigeria in that exercise for the long term.

Anyway even bombing will not eradicate the problem. From Kwara state to Sokoto, to Jigawa, Bornu, Adamawa, to Kogi, that's an area that is bigger than the United Kingdom. How many places can they bomb when it's not like the terrorists are all gathered in a few places. How come America did not defeat the terrorists in Afghanistan despite all the bombs the used in that cover over more than 10 years?

These days, I go several months without touching/using paper notes.

More and more people are living with little or no contact with paper notes.

The so-called Quantum Economics group cited ease of moving large cash around as a reason to create N20,000 notes.

Where on earth do people need to move large cash to that they can't transfer?

That'll be humiliating.

Yes, N60k in 60 N1k notes is the same as N60k in 3 N20k but still, imagine an oga just counts 3 notes and say that's your salary sad

So the so called youths saw the pictures of the alleged couple plotters are told themselves these ones can take Nigeria to a great place.

So what economic policies would military personnel use to transform the lives of over 200 million people.

All for the sake of youths wanting a new thing abi.

Were Messrs Babangida and Abacha not military people. How did their time in power propel a Nigeria of much smaller population to greatness.

Youths - so you think a military government will put a sudden stop to corruption. There was no massive corruption under previous military governments abi.

What about them.

Are they above the law.

Any retired military personnel, however senior, can be charged, arraigned before a court of law, and slammed in prison if found guilty of committing an offence under the laws of this country.

I am not even commenting on whether Mr Wike's office is right or wrong regarding the said land, as i don't really know the facts.

But I am repulsed that people queued under the sun, persevered with great discomfort, and in some cases some lost their lives just to exercise their democratic rights to vote, then one un-appointed, and -unelected retired military person will sit in his house and defy a Minister in such a public way in a civilian government huh
Politics › Re: Joe Igbokwe On Wike Vs Lt. Yerima: The Young Officer Has No Respect by DeLaRue: 7:56pm On Nov 11, 2025
press9jatv:
he's a Nigeria minister and not elected man. Let's differentiate it
You are incorrect.

In the pecking order of seniority, a Minister is even more senior than the Chief of Defense Staff.

That is why the Chief of Defense staff is under the Minister of Defense.

Military should be in barracks, not dictating to a senior representative of a civilian government whether he can or cannot enter a privately owned piece of land.

I hope the government doesn't take this lightly.

These are the sorts of excesses that breeds indiscipline in the military.
Politics › Re: Joe Igbokwe On Wike Vs Lt. Yerima: The Young Officer Has No Respect by DeLaRue:
The country is just in chaos.

A military personnel should not in any way be out blocking a minister from carrying out his duties.

Nigeria is NOT Pakistan.

In the scheme of things, the military is beneath the Executive arm under the constitution and a Minister is senior to even the Chief of Defense staff.

So, who is the army guy's boss that sent him to prevent a Minister of the Federal Republic from performing his lawful duties huh

In a serious country, the military senior that sent the guy to do the hatchet job will be investigated and demoted. But not in Nigeria. No wonder we have attempted coups.

This refinery has permanently changed the economic history of the SW in a way that you don't seem to see. Inviting a top king to come and see a wonder in his region doesn't hurt anyone.

The refinery's impact will be even more once Mr Dangote more than double the refinery's capacity as he plans to.

Don't forget too that the future of Nigeria as a single entity is not certain. Mr Dangote will want to maintain good relations with highly influential people in the SW, just in case. That said, the Yorubas don't have a history of confiscating other people's assets.

That was proven beyond doubt after Nigeria's highly unfortunate civil war.
Politics › Re: Tinubu Discusses Trump’s Threat With Ministers, Reveals Next Move by DeLaRue: 10:03pm On Nov 06, 2025
Brilliant President.

You and I can say what we like because we are not the President of a country, particularly one with the religious, and cultural complexity of Nigeria.

A Nigerian President cannot openly take side.

Those who expect the President to agree with the view that Christians are targeted need to understand that a President of Nigeria cannot openly agree to that viewpoint without making an already delicate situation worse.
Politics › Re: Nigerian Eurobond Oversubscribed By 400% Despite Trump’s Threat by DeLaRue:
Global institutional investors who bought the bonds have more data about the Nigerian economy than 99.999% of Nigerians.

They are not mugus. They know this economy is humming.

Institutional investors don't invest the pensions of millions of Europeans , Canadians, and Americans in yeye bonds.

For the Nigerian bonds to be oversubscribed 4 times over is a deep sign of international confidence in the Nigerian economy.

The irony is that, it is Nigerians themselves that fight tooth and nail on social media to tell the rest of the world that the Nigerian economy is the worst thing since Cain killed Abel.
Business › Re: Naira Broke A Major Rule In October by DeLaRue: 1:28pm On Nov 04, 2025
Last week, I sold some US stocks that I have had for some time.

Even though the shares had risen in value very much, if I had put the same money in some Nigerian stocks, I would have gained even more.

Right now and for the foreseeable future, naira is a better place to keep assets than dollars.

Despite all the bad news on security, ethic conflicts etc, the Nigerian economy is on the up, and I don't see it stopping for at least 5 years and beyond, if this government remains in power.

Mr Tinubu and his team are re-engineering the Nigerian economy in an intellectual way, unlike anything we have seen before in this country.

Electricity rarely goes off for more than 5 minutes per day in my area.

Sometimes, a whole week, there is no power outage. Maybe it goes off when I am asleep, but I doubt it.

From election violence, to brazen and unprecedented corruption, to economic incompetence, PDP is worse than APC.

Please does anyone have an update on the more $2 billion allegedly stolen by a Petroleum minister under Mr Jonathan's kokokoro eyes. Perhaps she can send some back to us. Nigeria needs it.

Despite crude oil prices being some of the highest ever with Nigeria raking in unprecedented amount of money under Mr Jonathan, the money was squandered, stolen, and mismanaged. 8 months before Mr Jonathan left office, Mrs Okonjoeweala declared to a stunned and crestfallen nation that all the money was gone and there was no money to pay salaries. sad

Nigeria has not recovered since then.
Politics › Re: Tinubu Should Reconsider The Muslim Muslim Ticket In 2027 by DeLaRue:
What's Muslim Muslim ticket got to do with anything.

Under Mr Jonathan, was Boko Haram activities not rampant. Under Mr Buhari, when a Christian was a VP, were there no rampant slaughtering of Christians.

Some Nigerians and stupid thinking.

As a Christian, I don't see how a Christian VP or President will make any difference to the fight against insecurity.

Are middle belt Christians targeted, I believe so. However, I do not believe there are easy solutions. The Nigerian defense system is weak. Despite the gallant efforts of the Nigerian army, there are not enough of them to fight bandits and terrorists across vast areas of the north.

As a last throw of the dice to deal with this issue, all Southern goverors need to call a meeting and start discussing options for separation. May be that will cause the leaders and the people in the North whose people are causing the problems to chase them away from their territory.
Politics › Re: Minimum Tax Threshold Of Some African Countries Compared To Nigeria by DeLaRue: 3:49pm On Nov 01, 2025
Lifting figures from several countries with disparate African economic situations and comparing as if they are like for like doesn't provide a credible picture.

You can compare data from various European countries with one another, because the fundamentals in one country are usually similar to those in the others.

In Africa, the differences between Nigeria and Morocco,or between Nigeria and South Africa are to wide for a simplistic like for like comparison.

Also, as the economy improves and salaries increase, the minimum income tax threshold will increase from the current N800,000 (I think) per annum.

Let's start from here.

After 2 years or so, labour unions CSOs, and workers themselves can start mounting pressure on the government to increase the threshold.

The economy needs to be on a stronger footing first.

We can't compare ourselves with Morocco, South Africa or even Kenya in terms of per capita income.

It is not just about a large population and size of GDP. Nigeria is not as rich as most people think. But it can become a lot richer if we do the right things.
Politics › Re: Adebayo Salutes Oyebanji At Project Commissioning, Promises To Lead His Campaign by DeLaRue: 1:59pm On Nov 01, 2025
The current Ekiti parapo is fascinating to watch from afar.

All previous governors of the state, irrespective of party affiliation, and the vast majority of organisations and the people in Ekiti appear to have decided to put the state first, above politics.

That is not to say they will always vote the same party, but they seem to have concluded that whichever party is in power in the state, as long as the Governor is doing well, a consensus will form around him.

I hope the APC people will reciprocate when another party gets into power in the state.

This harmony is so vital for a not-so-rich but upright and peaceful state like Ekiti and its hardworking people.

Ekiti is one of the few states where traditional values, decency, and a hardworking ethos is still held in high regard.

I romanticise Ebonyi state in my head too. I know nothing about the state, but for some reason I think the place will be traditional and full of decent hardworking people.

I am probably naive or even deluded thinking Ekiti and Ebonyi are eldorados smiley I also wonder what Gombe is like. I like the name cool

At times, I just want the complete opposite of Lagos. Even if it's just for a few weeks.
Business › Re: Nigeria’s Currency Surges To 10-month High Against The Dollar by DeLaRue:
parags:
I agree mostly with you . Wait until 2026 when elections start . Dollar will rise like crazy . Is it not our politicians again ? Governors will convert funds to dollars , even Tinubu will need dollars , plenty of it for reelection .
I doubt 2026/2027 pre election activities will have as much impact on the value of the naira as with previous elections.

Here are my reasons -

1) tepid opposition

2) APC presidential primaries will be uncontested.

3) Weighed down by lack of confidence in winning presidential election, opposition presidential primaries contestants will not spend huge amounts of dollars

4) most Governors will be in APC and will not face serious challenge in primaries

5) Senatorial and House of Rep primaries will mostly be transacted in naira

6) With naira gaining value, the allure of the dollar is no longer as strong as it used to be. If someone is offering to pay for my service in dollar or naira right now, I will opt for naira. I'm sure most people in similar position will too. Politicians may not need to use as much dollars come 2026/2027.

7) There is enough dollars in the economy now that $500 million spent on elections over a period of about 6 months will have very little impact on the value of the naira.

Finally, with the current dominant position of the APC, many opposition politicians may already be writing off 2027, and planning for 2031 instead.

An opposition Kano politician was recently quoted in the press as saying he would not bother to waste his money in 2027.

If that sentiment is common amongst rich opposition politicians, then it begs the question, where is the huge demand for dollars going to come from in 2027.

That said, a lot can still change between now and 2027.
Education › Re: 5 Futuristic Courses That Can Land You High-paying Jobs Abroad by DeLaRue: 4:30am On Nov 01, 2025
That list is highly questionable.

1) Biomedical engineering - big sounding name, but limited job opportunities. Sounds like one of those courses that boxes you into a corner in the job market. If you cant get a job in that specific field, you are done. Better to study mechanical engineering.

2) Why on earth would someone go to university to study game development in 2025? That person is heading for unemployment.

3) Don't waste your time spending 4 years studying cyber security at a university. Go for computer science or engineering and then do certifications in cyber security.

Also be weary of any course that is classified as 'good for the future'. That's because nobody knows the future. Things change so fast.

Truth is, it is not easy to sort out.

It is too widespread and entrenched.

Nigeria simply doesn't have the military manpower.
