Politics / Re: President Tinubu Directs Withdrawal Of Ferma Chairmanship Nomination by DeLaRue: 6:08pm On Oct 19, 2023
Some of these appointments are most likely being pushed by the Chief of Staff and other powerful people around the President.

Once these people's shenanigans are brought to the President's attention, he rescinds the appointment.

A 20 something years old, recently graduated, simply does not have enough experience to be chairman of Ferma.

He should be assigned to a lower role that fits his experience.
Politics / Re: Naira Now N1100 To Dollar, Why Is Tinubu Still Seating As Nigeria's President? by DeLaRue: 9:39pm On Oct 18, 2023
Black market rate is a private matter between the buyers and sellers.

The government has no direct control over that.

The government doesn't have enough dollars to satisfy every demand. That's just the reality. Nigeria 's CBN does not print dollars.

Nigeria gets dollars from what it sells to other countries. As we don't have much to sell, we don't receive enough dollars, and current demand for dollars is very high.

If you have a brilliant suggestion as to what the government can do to generate more dollars now, please let's hear it.

Also, why is Nigeria always desperately begging for foreign aid, despite the fact that the total foreign aid given to Nigeria is less than a fraction of what politicians and government officials steal every year. Why not concentrate on stopping the thefts.

Even the aid given to Nigeria ends up being stolen in a lot of cases.

The UN, EU, US, UK ec know this hence why they're extremely reluctant to give Nigeria any aid.

Donors are fed up with Nigeria.

Nearly 65 years after independence, you are still begging up and down. No shame

Politics / Re: Ignorance - Tinubu ₦390M Was A Bargin With 7 Governors And 7 Ministers by DeLaRue: 7:38pm On Oct 16, 2023
A President will use a Suite, not a room. A President is not like you and I that just takes a room that is available.

It is also likely that Nigeria will have booked an entire floor for the President and his most senior team. This will be necessary to ensure security of the President. DSS will not want unknown strangers from Venezuela, Iran, Colombia, North Korea etc to be on the same floor as the President. That's dangerous.

Nigerian security details will man the floor and control access to the President's Suite 24/7 even when the President is sleeping. This level of physical security presence will not be possible if there are other guests on the same floor as the President.

The President 's Suite alone will cost between $5000 - $10,000 per day. An entire floor will cost may be $30000 per day. The President and others need food. The hotel would supply expensive, sumptuous foods and drinks in abundance. Was the President supposed to call the hotel receptionist and say please I am from a poor country, we don't want expensive food Or was Mrs Tinubu supposed to pack Agege bread and pure water in tge President 's luggage in order to save Nigeria money?

Or are Nigeria's President , Governors etc expected to share rooms because 'Nigeria is poor.'

Yes the cost is high, but not intolerable.

First NIPOST, then CAC.

Nigeria 's civil service rules of employment that make it so hard to discipline or sack civil servants are not fit for purpose.

Workers are either in a merry-go-round celebration of the removal of their boss or they are protesting against a new appointment

What is the business of employees with who is appointed or removed as a boss.

Now that the banned goods have been restored, the government should now focus on increasing funding to the I & E market/window, so that those who need foreign currency for serious business/purpose are well served.

If people want to exchange naira for dollars at N5000 to $1 on the black market, it is up to them. Government has no control over that market.

Politics / Re: Olisa Agbakoba: This Madness Of Chicago State University Must Stop Now! by DeLaRue: 3:42pm On Oct 09, 2023
I have very little respect for most Nigerian lawyers as the overwhelming majority are dishonest, dishonourable, and unfit to be lawyers.

Some of the elementary professional rules that underpin the standing of the legal profession are trampled upon and discarded daily by Nigerian lawyers.

It was unthinkable some years ago that Lawyers would appear in the media to start arguing the facts, evidence, and merits of a matter that is before a court, let alone the Supreme Court.

I usually switch channels when I see this behaviour. It is painful to see how the jostling to be seen in the media has overtaken the fundamental requirements of professional ethics.

The Lawyers appear in the media knowingly twisting facts and information, perhaps to play to a gallery.

Some of the deductions some lawyers have dishonestly made in relation to the Chicago stuff have been laughably shocking.

And the NBA has completely lost control of the regulation of Lawyers.

The whole thing is an absolute mess.

Blame for the current state of the country lies with the following, and it started at least 25 years ago.

1. At least 95% of all Federal government agencies - waste, inefficiency, corruption, outmoded mentality

2. At least 95% of all State government agencies - waste, inefficiency, corruption, outmoded mentality

3. At least 80% of all Nigerians between the age of 18 and 65 - wrong mentality, disposition towards corruption and dishonesty, wickedness etc

Nigeria desperately needs change in all areas.

The Professor is presenting it as some kind of indegenous technological breakthrough.

Where is the professor going to get enough waste product to produce enough gas needed for an entire local government 24hrs a day, 365 day a year.

It can't compete with the gas that is extracted from the ground, which Nigeria has in abundance.

KnowAll:
They should use the western frontier to build it. That is the Badagry to Sokoto frontier. That way u avoid all the big cities on the way.

I am guessing that will benefit far fewer people.

It is in the big cities that the largest users of roads are.

Also instead of one single road passing through bushes, an expanded road through Ibadan axis connecting through one or 2 other big cities in Oyo State, then through Ilorin and into Abuja will be better.

The existing road through Ibadan to Ilesha to Akure, Akungba, Ibillo, Okene, Lokoja then Abuja should be redeveloped and improved.

Benin to Lokoja should also be redeveloped and improved.

I am not thar familiar with the East. But 2 or 3 roads from that axis and Port Harcourt in the South South to Abuja should be redeveloped.

Mr Hon. Minister, we don't need a new, single road from Lagos to Abuja.

Better to redevelop existing roads and bridges linking the South to the North.

There is more to Nigeria than just Lagos.

It seems this Minister likes new shining things that are too costly.

The existing roads are in poor shape. Instead of focusing on redeeming them, he wants to bring businessmen to build a new one that they will start charging users for.

Politics / Re: Marketers Raise Alarm As Diesel Price Hits ₦‎1,100/Litre by DeLaRue: 3:26am On Sep 20, 2023
Right from Obasanjo's 2nd term, Nigeria 's refineries haven't worked properly.

Obj tried to fix them, they didn't work. He sold them to Dangote & Otedola.

Yaradua cancelled the sale, returned Dangote's money to him. He tried to fix the refineries. They didn't work.

Jonathan spent 5yrs or so, and spent tens of billions. Still the refineries didn't work.

Buhari spent 8years, and billions on fixing the refineries, they didn't produce a bucket of petrol.

That's about 20 years in total of spending billions with no result.

The current government is 4 months old, and people say it should fix the refineries before removing subsidy.

If 4 previous governments couldn't do it in 20years, how long would Mr Tinubu have to wait before subsidy would be removed?

The man had no option. Nigeria is broke. It was a difficult decision, but it had to be made or else the country would run out of money and the naira would collapse to may be N5000, or even N10,000 to a dollar. Not possible? Ask Argentina or Lebanon.

Virtually every country in the world right now is going through a difficult time. Whether it is Germany, France, UK, South Korea, Ghana, Senegal, USA, Canada and many more. The world economy is going through a difficult phase.

But this will not last forever. The good times will come again, particularly for countries who take the right tough decisions now.

Deluded countries who want to continue to live on large scale borrowing and subsidy will end up like Venezuela.

Crude oil prices are shooting up on the international market.

The price of diesel has not been subsided for many years, so the government is not going to start subsidising diesel now.

All over the world, every one is complaining about the rising price of crude oil, which is currently about $95 dollars per barrel.

Go on you tube, you will see many videos of Americans complaining they cant even afford to buy fuel to drive to work!

Russia and Saudi Arabia are reducing supply in order to make more money. The rest of the world is screwed...for now.

Nigeria is no different. Are people in Ghana, Kenya, Japan, Sweden, UK, US buying diesel cheaper. No. Everyone is complaining bitterly.

This has very little to do with the Nigerian government.

Those who need diesel just have to adjust for now until crude oil prices comes down.

It appears the Governor held out his hand for a traditional handshake, but then tried to adjust it because the person on the other side took the Governor 's hand in a less traditional style.

This has happened to me a few times in the past. I just assumed (and still believe) the individuals I was trying to handshake just wanted a more 'youthful' handshake.

It is hilarious to realise now that if a camera had captured me as I tried to adjust my hand to make the handshake less awkward for me, those seeing the picture may have thought I belonged to a dark, mysterious underground group grin

Ok…

By the way, Atiku’s legal team is barking up the wrong tree.

No one’s asking for documents Tinubu used for admission to Richard Daley College. Someone whose primary or secondary school details in Nigeria remains a big mystery.

Someone who mentioned all his classmates died in the Biafra war.

I don’t see much coming out of this Chicago State University hullabaloo. No point in getting excited over nothing.

Nigerians prepare yourselves for the Tinubu regime. Sorry, that’s the bitter truth.

Anyways, time will tell.

I can't speak to whether Mr Tinubu attended primary or secondary school.

But you might wish to know that there are established pathways to college admissions in the UK and the US that doesn't require any previous (primary or secondary qualification or even attendance).

So, I really don't see how Mr Tinubu's case should be different.

What is important is that he claimed to attend a college and a University in the US. If ongoing investigations confirm he did, that should be the end of the line of enquiry about his educational qualification.

If someone graduates with first class, or even third class, why o why should I be interested in the primary school he attended.

Infact in the UK, when applying for a job as a graduate, you mostly don't put details of your primary or secondary school in your CV unless there is a particular attribute relating to those early years that you want to bring out in your CV.

Once you graduate, most employers are simply not interested in the primary school you attended.

The fixation of many Nigerians on irrelevant issues is baffling.

Welcome home in advance Wally. Make una collaborate with FG make investment troop into the country.

We don’t need aid, we need Investments in $billions.

It is more likely to be government to government assistance.

The reality is that most US companies won't make real investment in Nigeria. Maybe in fintech, the stock exchange or the oil and gas sector.

Can you imagine Americans surviving on a large scale wheat or rice farm in Gombe, Adamawa, Ekiti etc. Yet, that is the sort of investment we need right now. The weather alone. Security, and the people nko. That's why it's Indians & Chinese that are surviving here. You'll hardly find many Europeans in Nigeria. Our society is tough.

Also, US companies have so many options around the world where they can invest, and the US government can't force privately owned US companies to come to Nigeria.

What Nigeria needs now is some kind of relief in terms of foreign currency, mainly dollars. If the US can find a way to help Nigeria, that will go a long way.
Politics / Re: Wally Adeyemo To Visit Nigeria by DeLaRue: 7:01pm On Sep 13, 2023
This is very interesting.

I get the feeling the US will help Nigeria whereever they can, that is why they are sending their Deputy Finance Minister. Make no mistake, this is about the economy.

The only problem I see is that Republicans in the US Congress will try and block anything that requires their approval.

The US government has been impressed with Mr Tinubu's free market agenda and see him as someone they can work with. This contrasts with South Africa 's socialist (pro Russia) tendencies.

The US also needs Nigeria to be on their side in the quest for influence in Africa, and so, I expect the US will reward Nigeria with favourable policies for not joining Brics.

Kids shouting from the roof tops that Nigeria should join Brics just don't understand international politics.

You go to where your bread will be buttered. In the present world order, the butter is in the US's hands.

Politics / Re: We Buy Oil From Nigeria Refined It And Sell It Back To Them-a Singaporean Lady by DeLaRue: 4:43am On Sep 13, 2023
Importation will reduce by fire by force.

The current high inflation has reduced people's ability to purchase goods, particularly imported ones.

Demand for non-essential imports must already be falling drastically, and with crude oil price increasing, Nigeria's balance of payment will rebalance in favour of higher export earnings.

Making imports expensive by devaluing the naira, which is what the government has done is one of the most effective tools for achieving increased local production even though there are unfortunate downsides to that policy.

I think we finally have a clever government.

Go to any supermarket, you will see up to 10 different types of imported breakfast cereals, olive oil, this oil and that oil. Even imported can coke, and many more non-essential imports.

We can produce all the corn we need to make different breakfast cereals, but we don't. We have palm oil, groundnut oil etc, and there is nothing wrong with locally produced coke.

These are just few examples of non-essential imports that is killing the naira.

In the future, when we are producing more and the economy is in a better condition, may be these things can be imported.

For now, we can go back to eating yam, beans etc for breakfast. People did this in the past, it didn't kill them.
