Twenty-five-year-old Kenyan engineer and innovator, Roy Allela, has created a set of gloves that will ultimately allow better communication between those who are deaf and those who are hearing yet may not necessarily know sign language. The Sign-IO gloves in essence translate signed hand movements into audible speech.
Allela’s gloves feature sensors located on each finger that detect the positioning of each finger, including how much each finger will bend into a given position. The glove connects via Bluetooth to an Android phone which then will leverage use the text-to-speech function to provide translated speech to the hand gestures of a person signing.



The inspiration behind the Sign-IO gloves comes from the personal experience of having a young niece who is deaf. He nor his family knows sign language and often struggled to adequately and consistently communicate with her. “My niece wears the gloves, pairs them with her phone or mine, then starts signing. I’m able to understand what she’s saying,” Allela shared in an interview with The Guardian.

Allela’s vision for the gloves is to have them placed in schools for special needs children throughout his home country of Kenya and then expand from there to positively impact the experiences of as many deaf or hearing-impaired children as possible. His gloves are amongst a number of cutting-edge projects that are contributing to the growing market of assistive technology devices that seek to provide aid to those with specific impairments and limitations.

Scientists announced the first birth of a baby in space in 2024
The idea of baby in space may sound like part of a science fiction movie. But scientists say it can become reality in 6 years.

The space life Origin based company in the Netherlands announced something interesting Their plan is to give birth to the first baby in space in 2024 and that it requires volunteers.



Keys Mulder, company director, says that if mankind plans to become a multifaceted species, it must learn to multiply in space.

The company claims it will create a “space incubator”. It will carry eggs and sperm and will be sent to orbit in 2021.

When it is found in space, the embryos will begin to develop. Details are still not clear how this will take place.

The company plans to give birth to the first baby in space in 2024.



In the words of the director of this company, the mission will last between 24 and 36 hours. The woman will give birth outside the country in the presence of a specialized medical team.

A carefully prepared and supervised process will foresee all risks to the mother and child, according to the standards of the Earth, explains Mulder spokesman.

The Austrian capital, Vienna, has beaten Australia's Melbourne to be named the world's most liveable city.

It's the first time a European city has topped the rankings of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) annual survey.

The worldwide league table ranks 140 cities on a range of factors, including political and social stability, crime, education and access to healthcare.

In the survey, Manchester saw the biggest improvement of any European city, rising by 16 places to rank 35th.

Manchester's rise puts it ahead of London in the rankings by 13 places, the widest gap between the two cities since the survey began two decades ago.

The EIU said Manchester's jump in the rankings was due to an improved security score.

'Resilience'
The survey was criticised last year for demoting Manchester after the Manchester Arena attack which killed 22 victims.

This year, survey editor Roxana Slavcheva said Manchester had "shown resilience in the city's recovery from a recent, high-profile terrorist attack, which previously shook up stability".

Ms Slavcheva said security had also improved in "several western European cities" and Vienna's top place in the rankings reflected "a relative return to stability across much of Europe".


Melbourne had previously come top for seven years running
According to the survey, nearly half of the cities have seen their liveability ranking improve over the past year.

Melbourne, which was ranked second in this year's global rankings, had previously come top for seven years running.

Two other Australian cities also made this year's top ten: Sydney and Adelaide.

At the other end of the scale, war-torn Damascus in Syria was ranked the least liveable city, closely followed by Dhaka in Bangladesh and Lagos in Nigeria.

The EIU said that crime, civil unrest, terrorism or war played a "strong role" in the ten-lowest scoring cities.

The safety of our election systems didn't exactly earn a vote of confidence following this weekend's DefCon hacking conference in Las Vegas. One session reportedly featured an 11-year-old who successfully hacked into a replica website for the Florida Secretary of State and changed election results.

It took the young hacker only 10 minutes to break in and gain access.

The child took part in a DefCon Voting Machine Hacking Village, PBS reports, where kids as young as eight years old attempted to access replica web pages and change information.

"These websites are so easy to hack we couldn’t give them to adult hackers — they’d be laughed off the stage," said Jake Braun, a former White House liaison for the Department of Homeland Security in an interview with ABC News. Braun said the conference invited younger hackers to DefCon because it would be a "waste of time" showcasing experts hacking these sites.

In a statement, the National Association for Secretaries of State questioned the hacking village events, claiming they don't realistically portray a scenario where these machines could be accessed.

"Providing conference attendees with unlimited physical access to voting machines, most of which are no longer in use, does not replicate accurate physical and cyber protections established by state and local governments before and on Election Day," said NASS.

Meanwhile, ES&S — the company that provides election equipment across the U.S. — emailed customers assuring their machines were safe, Buzzfeed reports.

"Physical security measures make it extremely unlikely that an unauthorized person, or a person with malicious intent, could ever access a voting machine," read the email.

This is not the first time DefCon has tackled election security. Last year, it took attendees less than a day to successfully find and exploit flaws in five different types of voting machines.

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe has blasted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force station on its historic mission to the Sun.
The probe lit up the night sky as it blasted off at 3:31 a.m. EDT.
“It was a really clean launch,” Dr. Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, told reporters. “It took off like it should.”
“Everything was exactly like we thought it would be – it really was textbook,” he added.
Carried by a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket, Parker lifted off from Cape Canaveral’s Space Launch Complex 37. The launch had intially been scheduled for early Saturday, but last-minute technical glitches ate away at the launch window, prompting a 24-hour delay.
The $1.5 billion mission will take humanity closer to the Sun than ever before. Parker will be the first spacecraft to fly through the Sun’s corona, the outermost part of the star’s atmosphere. It is expected to reach the Sun in November.
