i hope so too, but we must temper our expectation with the ban of 41 imported items, he made mentioon that the customs lost out on potential 250 billion income because of the ban in the space of 3-4 months i guess in 2015.

U Av a good point there no doubt.
However, if we are to factor in the fact that between January and August and when Ali took over, customs was declaring whatever she deemed fit including unnecessary waivers that has been lifted now coupled with excessive loopholes associated with our collection system, I feel it's fair to say that a minimum of a thrillion naira shouldn't be difficult to meet. Am confident it will be surpassed significantly.

We can expect over a thrillion naira in 2016 then.

Why not, we expect far more than a trillion in 2016. Even more than our expectation from the budget. All federating states will benefit from it. Am confident, Ali will deliver.

It should be noted that he only assumed office August 2015. Assuming he had been the head since the beginning of the year, surely much more than this figure would have been realised. Very soon, corruption will be a thing of the past in the custom service.

Gradually but surely we are having a custom service we all will be proud off. Ali was an excellent choice from Buhari to head this service. That is why I keep saying that let Buhari continue to govern while wailers continue to wail aimlessly till 2023. I have no doubt that expectations from customs for the year 2016 to fund the budget will be met.
Nigeria is currently in the hands of good and competent hands no doubt.

Politics / Customs Collects N903bn Revenue For 2015 – Ali by Demdem2: 7:30am On Jan 09, 2016
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) collected a total of N903 billion in 2015 out of a target of N954 billion, comptroller-general of the Service Col. Hameed Ali Rtd, has said.

Ali who stated this while fielding questions from journalists after the decoration of newly promoted senior officers of the Service in Abuja, noted that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy on the importation of 41 items denied the Customs revenue collection to the tune of N240 billion in 2015.

The CGC yesterday decorated six newly promoted Deputy Comptrollers General and eight Assistant Comptrollers General.

He said, “If we had added that to what we have generated it would have surpassed what we have, so that is the down side of why we were not able to meet the target in 2015.”

Ali who expressed the hope that the Service will surpass its target for 2016 in view of the tools already put in place by the management, added, “I hope also that government will once again look at those policies and see how they can be fine-tuned.”

As part of efforts to meeting the 2016 target, the CGC said he has gone round the various Commands where he urged officers to work harder as well as help the agency clear the correct the bad impression the public has about it.

The newly decorated officers include DCGs Suleiman Ibrahim Idris, Grace Adeyemo, Dan Ugo, Paul Ukaigwe, Abubakar Umar and Austen Warikoru. The ACGs include Sanusi Umar, Aremu Olatunji, Chidi Augustine, Azarema Abdulkadir among others.

While congratulating the officers, he underscored the fact that their promotion did not come by way of lobby or compromise but based purely on merit from available records.

Charging the officers, Ali said, “I expect nothing less than the best. I expect from you henceforth hard work, commitment and drive for the best. My mission in the NCS is to make it the best of Service not only within Nigeria but across the nations.

“My mission is to make sure we clean ourselves of all the bad impression that we carry along, my mission is to ensure that we meet all the mandate set for us by the government and I believe that all of you will have no other mission than to fall in with that and make sure that 2016 is put on the record as one of the best years of the NCS.”

Thank you very much. Sincerely, the #Dasukigate scandal is a big slap to Nigerians and highly disappointing. Nobody should be proud of such event.

On Wike, of a truth he was/still is GEJ ally, but that is not the issue. Who are the allies of Peterside? Ex Dep Gov Toby(and father of Ibim), Odili's henchmen, Amaechi etc. All these men are members of Odili's establishment that are seeking to return to loot. These men introduced criminality, cultisam and politically motivated assassination to Rivers state. They loot the treasury inchallenged. Having them back to power is a calamity. I'm not saying Wike is a saint but we should be honest.

People(outsiders) have been vilifying Wike unnecessarily but we know the trutt.

Their main boss who is Odili, the chief thief himself, is he not an ally of Wike? Have u wondered why wike has not deemed it fit as promised to start the implementation of the Omereji report as boasted by him? what is stopping him. He lied to u lot and u foolishly took it in without confirming if the thug is sincere or not.
Antecedents of wike is well known and ur effort to beautify it is very shamefull. we know how him as obiaakpor chair brought in cultism, extortion, hooliganism, criminality to the streets of Obiaakpor.

Wike remains the worse interim governor Rivers have ever had

He plunged the IGR of the state from an average of N8b to less than N5b due to unwantory interference, vested interest and infighting in the state revenue board, staffs and revenue contractors

over N100b was recently approved by RSHA for supplementary budget when the year is barely 2wks to go

He suspended all the activities of the RSSDA which ran different empowerment programs, including scholarship, skill acquisition, agriculture(songai farm, fish farming, paultery, etc), employment schemes through job fair, etc

He plans to 'Wikedly' send back our overseas scholars numbering over 600 back home angry

Sacked thousands of workers (RSSDA, Rivpoly, Tima riv, etc) without creating jobs

Borrowed over N40b just to patch roads and construct open gutter drainage sad

Abandoned the public schools in the state to be overgrown by weeds and rodent

threatening the peace in the state by advising his supporters not to report any offensive from the opposition to the police or security operative instead they should attack in three folds____ what a thug of a governor

a government without economic blue print, no development program, no project timeline is as good as no government

we the good people of Rivers have decided to boot him out with our votes come 2016

So true.

For the medical center, going through the details it will be money well spent. i no longer have issues with it but the software cost is high ooo. Obviously, the amount budgeted to it over the years was not disbursed.

Having seen the full details it's obvious to all sane minds that just two areas seems to be the problem and they are the state house medical center and state house headquarters. Only a fool will expect what was budgeted for VP Sambo should be the same or less for VP Osinbajo.
What is going on in that medical centre? Previous govts budgets billions into that facility. I trust Buhari that what he promises to spend will be spent. Baba needs it.
By and large, it's OK however explanations needed on BMW CARS. If cars are really needed for officials, why not try Innosun?

Not only state house but every sector and agency of the economy is experiencing increased funding next year as proposed by govt except feeding in aso villa which has reduced. This is good development. For instance, for this year Jonah-daft budgeted roughly 50 billion naira for power works and housing all together, next year the govt is proposing over 450 billion naira.
Secondly this is an over 6 trillion naira budget as against the peanuts Jonah-daft normally budget while allowing leakages everywhere. Percentage of state house in relation to the total sum is still smaller than previous years.
Even with this, am still interested in the full details of what needs to be done at the state house to gulp so much money. Could it be that what has always been budgeted and planned for over the years was not spent therby making the govt to do it again. What about the proposed BMW cars, what is it for? Definitely not for the president, he uses Benz. NASS should as a matter of urgency ask the right question when scrutinizing.
Above all, am happy that the General is spending less on food than what Jonah-daft spent. He isn't a glutton and drunkard like him.

Thinking about it again.....i know ur lazy type. U won't go and read it up as instructed. I Av extracted it for u to read up. Chew that......

I hereby challenge your attempt to blame others for not saving for the rainy day. It is not a virtue when you are quick to appropriate all the credit when things are going well, but shift the blame when they go wrong. You blame the state governors— who, according to you, have taken the Federal Government to the Supreme Court—not that a Supreme Court judgment forced your hands. For your information, the governors have never agreed to savings and always threatened court action even under Obasanjo. Why did we save under Obasanjo but not under Jonathan? Two keywords explain it: leadership and integrity. Governor Amaechi said the governors insisted on sharing the funds because they found out that you were illegally fiddling with the savings. So, as Nigerians still wonder, if billions of dollars are now ‘missing’ under your nose, why should governors trust you to keep their money? Do the states that have taken the federal government to the Supreme Court and refused to save also include the PDP governors—who are in the majority? If so, then it is fatal: even governors of your own party, PDP, do not trust you to keep their money! Furthermore, did the governors also stop the Federal Government from saving part of its share? If you ran a surplus budget at the Federal level, you would have had credibility to blame others or to say they did not listen to your advice. The key point is that since you were running huge deficits yourself, it was also in your own interest to share the ECA. You did not show leadership or credibility, full stop!

It is just my view that the measures are extreme and not well thought through. We will have a better idea of its impact on the economy when the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) releases the 2015 Q4 and 2016 Q1 (GDP, Unemployment, Inflation, etc) numbers.

Well, it's a choice. U can choose to relocate elsewhere especially to a country of desure. Am sure govt won't stop any from such. Yes precarious times needs extreme measures that are bold and the govt has taken that step.
I am not expecting immediate recovery so whatever data they come up with won't move me. Am looking towards from 2nd quarter of next year when I believe things must by then be taking shape.

We voted rightly and the govt of the day is on the right track. Because of Jonah-daft cursed misgovernance, it will be though first before softening. That is what we are experiencing and not out of place.

The times we are in are precarious. Any action by the Central Bank will have negative effects. What I am concerned about is the NET effect of a particular policy action.

I believe the CBN should do everything possible to preserve the Foreign Reserves for use for essential items like fuel imports. But why not allow those who can access dollars elsewhere (at whatever price) to be able to make transfers and payments easily?

Like u said, whatever action taken at this precarious times will have negative effects. The govt of the day has chosen the one they feel they can live with and defend, I pray and believe it will work. It's a temporary set up. Let's be patient.
