Politics / MULAN Commends Chief Judge For Customary Court Hearing Of Islamic Personal Laws by Demmzy15(m): 11:57pm On Oct 16, 2021
– Sets up probe panel on FG’s alleged plans to illegally evacuate Muslims from ancestral communities

– It’s a silent revolution to our many years of advocacy for official implementation of Shari’ah in Yorubaland – Kunle Sanni

The Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN) has commended the The Chief Judge of Lagos State Judiciary, Justice Kazeem Alogba for the recent designation of the Ifako/Ijaye customary court for the hearing of Islamic personal laws.

The commendation came on Friday, October 15, during a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge by the Muslim Lawyers body led by its National President, Prof. Ibrahim Abikan.

The visiting team also included Barr. Fausat Bakare, National Financial Secretary; Mr. Misbaudeen Ajibola Kaka, Chairman, Lagos Branch and top elders of the association.

MULAN extolled the Chief Judge for his courage on the initiative, noting it is a promotion of inclusive justice system and access to justice that will engender confidence in the judiciary.

By this development, the Ifako/Ijaye customary court can now hear Islamic personal laws involving Muslim marriages, divorce, maintenance and custody of children, inheritance, among others.

In his presentation, MULAN National President, Prof. Abikan urged the Chief Judges of other states of southern Nigeria to borrow a leaf from the initiative of Lagos State for a more inclusive justice sector and national integration.

For his part, the Lagos State Chief Judge thanked MULAN for the visit and intervention on critical national issues.

According to him, the Lagos Judicial Service Commission under his leadership was encouraged to take the initiative by the need to be fair to all, while operating within the extant laws.

He urged MULAN to shop for professionals versatile in Common and Islamic Law as he strives to ensure that such access is available in all judicial divisions of the state.

The Chief Judge charged the Lagos Branch of MULAN to encourage its members to show interest in the state judiciary for appointment to the High Bench.

‘Silent Revolution’

Muslim News findings revealed that the designation happened in June, 2021, but didn’t gain media prominence until July, when the Chairman, Oyo Muslim Community, Alhaji Kunle Sanni wrote to create awareness about it.

Alhaji Sanni described the move as a silent revolution to their many years of advocacy for official implementation of Shari’ah in Yorubaland.

He said, “The news occured two weeks ago. The fact that it was uncelebrated by Muslim activists and scholars in the southwest to a discerning mind is mind-boggling.”

According to him, “The Lagos state government under the suzerainty of a Christian personality, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu approved the use of Ifako/Ijaiye customary court for the adjudication of civil aspect of Shari’ah, ostensibly as a test run before a separate Shari’ah court is established. This could be seen by some Muslims as a kind of tokenism, bearing in mind that we have eight customary courts in Lagos state.

“The obvious fact is that the journey of a thousand kilometres starts with one step. This watershed would, in shaa Allah lead to a floodgate of demands from many Muslims in other states for the official implementation of Shari’ah.

“Some may be wondering if the constitutional due process was followed. Barrister AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef, an outstanding Islamic scholar, aka Hon. Iyepe and the former commissioner for Home Affairs in Lagos state is the hero of this revolution. When he was a member of the House of Assembly, he got the bill approved without much hue and cry from our traducers who love to hate Islam,” he added.

‘Islamic City eviction’

Meanwhile, MULAN President also told Muslim News that his Organisation has received a formal request from Zumuratul Jamiu Mumin to intervene on the imminent threat to their social existence, especially plot by the FG to evacuate them from their land at Islamic City, located at Pakuro-Lotto axis of Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Muslim News had chronicled how a plan by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Works to construct an interchange that will affect the livelihoods of Muslims occupying the only thriving Muslim community in between two Christian communities.

There have been allegations that the plan is deliberate to wipe out the Muslim community considered a threat to two Christian groups (Deeper Life Bible Church and Redeemed Christian Church of God) it shares geographic bonds with.

In a letter jointly signed by the Chief Imam and Secretary of the Islamic City, dated 10th October 2021 and addressed to MULAN President, Zumuratul Jamiu Mumin (ZJM) has asked MULAN to come to their aid.

The President has therefore directed the association’s first Vice President, Dr. Kazeem Olaniyan to coordinate a preliminary investigation of the issue along with the Chairmen of her Lagos and Ogun branches and report within one week

That you shouid not marry or involve in interfaith with unbelievers

So that's why they're compared to devils? So an innocent unbeliever child is a devil?

but not to kill them as commanded in koran.

The Quran only commands war against people who want to fight us, stop this nonsense whitewashing. We fight all those who fight us!

Interreligious marriage is not allowed in islam especially for Muslim girls.

Yes! Any problems with that? Why would you think a Muslim woman would marry you? grin

But muslms are cunning of marrying women from other faiths with a view to convert them. I witnessed that in the north.

Yes that's the point, we want them to convert but we don't force it as Islam acknowledges love can exist between two people!

He was not outnumbered. Enrol for a Bible study programme.

In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me."
Matthew 26:55

He was outnumbered, you haven't even answered my question why he commanded the purchase of swords in the first place. In Islam, when Prophet Muhammad commanded the Muslims to purchase weapons, it was for war.

But look! one of those with Jesus reached out his hand and drew his sword and struck the slave of the high priest, taking off his ear.+ 52 Then Jesus said to him: “Return your sword to its place,+ for all those who take up the sword will perish by the sword.+ 53 Or do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father to supply me at this moment more than 12 legions of angels?

Why did he command they buy it in the first place? What do they use swords to do?

In contrary to Bible, koran stated clearly that Muslims should terrorize and kill non-Muslims. Islam is a violent religion.

Shut up jor, you compare us to devils and even when Jesus comes during the end times, we'll be exterminated by Jesus and his army. Then you come here to lie!

That is your thinking. Love is core principle of real christianity.

This is a lie from the pit of hell, this is what the bible says about unbelievers:

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 2 Corinthians 6:14-15

This verse compares us to devils, how can you say Christianity is about love when unbelievers whom are innocent are called devils?

Hatred for non-muslims is core principle of islam.

We hate the religion and not necessarily the people until they seek to harm us. This is why Islam is the only religion that allows interreligious marriage, not even the bible allows it.

Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly. Qur'an 60:8

Now compare with the bible that blatantly called us devils

Return your sword to its place.” Then Jesus stated a principle that guides Christians even today: “All those who take up the sword will perish by the sword.”—Matthew 26:51, 52.

He surrendered because he was outnumbered, if he wanted peace in the first place he wouldn't have commanded the selling of cloaks to buy swords. Why did he command it in the first place? grin

When Jesus told his followers to carry swords on the night before he died, this was not so that they could protect themselves. (Luke 22:36, 38) Rather, Jesus wanted to teach them a lesson: His followers should not use violence, even when they have to face a crowd that has weapons. (Luke 22:52) After Peter used his sword to attack the high priest’s slave, Jesus commanded Peter: “Return your sword to its place.” Then Jesus stated a principle that guides Christians even today: “All those who take up the sword will perish by the sword.”—Matthew 26:51, 52.
This is very laughable, there was no point to buy swords if he wanted peace. For him to command they buy sword towards the end of life shows he was scared of death and was looking for ways to remove the cup of death. He commanded his followers to stand down when he saw multitudes came and they were outnumbered, it would be foolhardy for him to fight!

Muslims are commanded to kill according to you. No such command in Christianity.
Yes, we acknowledged that there are wars and you don't share roses in wars, you fight the enemies.

Jesus commanded his followers to buy swords, what are swords used for? You're yet to answer this question!

You say the bible commands you to love your enemies, my question to you is, do you love Boko Haram and killer herdsmen?

Answer these questions and stop these running around

Did jesus and his disciples killed unbelievers while spreading christianity? No

Why was this? Because he didn't have enough followers. Jesus was militant, during the last supper he commanded his disciples to get swords and those who don't have should sell cloaks and buy swords:

He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one Luke 22:36

My question to you my Yoruba Christian brother, what is sword used for? Is it to spread peace?

Did Muhammed and his followers killed non-muslms while spreading islam? Yes

Yes and we're proud of it, just as how Moses and his followers killed unbelievers

Did koran say you should love your enemies? No.

No, you can only be friends with non-belligerent unbelievers. Qur'an 60:8

Did bible say you should love your enemies?
Yes.
Bible says
Matt 28:19,20.

Only a stupi'd man would love his enemy, if you insist, do you love Boko Haram and Fulani herdsman?

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen

This is a command for evangelization and some later generations did this through warfare.

Matthew 26, 26:52): "Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword."

Why then did he command his followers to buy the sword in the first place? Jesus only made this statement when he saw they were outnumbered and it'll be foolish for them to fight grin

Matt 5: 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Do you love Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen?

What koran says

Q4:95 states, “Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home).”

Q 8:12 (Remember) when your Lord revealed to the angels,"Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes.

Q9:29 instructs Muslims: “Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”

Yes, I support this verses as Islam acknowledges the fact there are times of war and peace. And we're encouraged to fight, so cry me a River grin grin grin

Jesus had no power and few followers unlike prophet Muhammad and Moses who had strong established followers. Don't compare apples to oranges

When Christians acquired power they expanded and killed millions. Cut the bullsh'it, even when Jesus was god of the old testament, he commanded the massacre of millions

Christians with their irrational and dumb teachings, do you love Boko Haram and Fulani herdsman? How can a man with brain love his enemies?

Did bible say you should love your enemies?
Yes.

A non-Muslim is not always an enemy hence why Islam allowed you to marry Jews and Christians. Christianity on the other hand say you love your enemies but preaches hatred and compares unbelievers who mean no harm to you as devils. Christianity is a walking contradiction!

Yorùbá Christians and lies, Christians have always killed unbelievers, Christianity was established on bloodshed, without wars and conquest you'll be an extreme minority. Even the word "infidel" was established from Christianity.

In Islam we're allowed to marry Christians and Jews, we're allowed to eat their food and associate with them (Qur'an 5:5) but somehow we're the intolerant ones despite the fact the bible called us dirty and devils grin grin
