We have all heard those crazy stories about phone chargers. Some are so farfetched that they borderline on superstition. There are a lot of rules regarding charging phones. Some of them are true and should be followed by everyone. However, some are just plain foolish. Over the years, batteries have evolved just as much as phones had. These batteries will last for around three to five years if taken proper care of. Here are the top five myths about charging phones that have been proven untrue- 1. MYTH – Different chargers will destroy the battery Truth- Different chargers work fine as long as they are not replicas People claim that using different chargers for different phones will affect the battery of the phone. Now this is nothing but a myth. Different chargers work just as fine as the original charger. The performance may not be optimum, but it will charge fine without damaging the battery. The problem is using knockoff chargers. Those things can and does damage the batteries. 2. MYTH – Charging all night will kill your battery Truth– Your battery knows when to stop. The myth about charging overnight is a common one. People think that charging all throughout the night will damage and eventually kill the battery. The truth is that your batteries are equipped to take the overnight charging. Once it reaches maximum charge, it stops charging altogether. This means that the battery isn’t even in use at all. However, that does not mean you will charge your phone all night every day. Keeping the phone charged between 40% to 80% will allow your battery to last longer. 3. MYTH – Shouldn’t use the phone while it is charging Truth- Using it is fine as long as the chargers are original. There are legit concerns over this charging myth. People believe that if you use the phone while it is charging then the phone will explode. Some say that you can be electrocuted if you are using it while the charger is on. There have been a few incidents where the phone did explode. However in all of those cases, the user was charging their phones with fake charges. Those things can be deadly. If you are using the manufacturer approved charges then there are no risks of the phone exploding. So you can use it as much as you want. 4.MYTH- Never turn off your phone. Truth- Turning off the phone helps the battery. Everything has its limits even if the thing in question is a phone. Turning off your phone every once in a while helps the battery life. According to an Apple expert, turning off your phone from time to time will maximize the battery life. So if you are somebody who is always on the phone, it is advisable that you turn off your phone at night to get the best out of your battery. 5. MYTH- Charge your phone only when it is completely dead. Truth- Frequent charging is better than deep charging. idea that your phone should be charged only when it is completely drained is actually wrong. If you constantly let your batteries drain till 0% then the battery becomes somewhat unstable. So it is better to charge your phone every now and then. BONUS FACT – Heat will destroy your battery. There is no denying the fact that heating will damage your battery. Lithium-ion batteries heat up as you charge them. So if you place them near a hot surface then chances are that they will be damaged. Similarly, cold temperatures also affect the batteries. Cold batteries die quicker in low temperatures.

Daudu, who was also a member of the State House of Assembly, was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges bordering on money laundering and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N1.4 billion. Reprieve came the way of a former Caretaker Chairman of Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State House Gabriel Daudu as the Supreme Court on Thursday, July 6, 2017 granted bail to convicted council boss. Daudu, who was also a member of the State House of Assembly, was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges bordering on money laundering and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N1.4 billion. He was found guilty by a Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja of 77 out of 208 counts and consequently sentenced to two years on each of the counts. The sentence was to run concurrently. Dissatisfied with his conviction, Daudu approached the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal praying the court to set his conviction aside. However, in a unanimous decision on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 the appellate court upheld the ruling of the lower court and dismissed Daudu’s appeal as “unmeritorious and lacking in merit.” Still not satisfied, Daudu proceeded to the Supreme Court, praying to be admitted to bail pending the determination of the appeal before it. After due consideration of arguments by Joseph Daudu, SAN, and Wahab Shittu representing the appellant and the respondent (EFCC) respectively, the apex court admitted Daudu to bail with two sureties in the sum of N2 million each. The sureties must have landed property and must be resident in the FCT. Duadu, who is currently serving his prison sentence in Koton-Karfe is expected to complete the sentence in August.

The woman accused of aiding suspected kidnap king accused of George Onwuamadike (alias Evans) to escape justice in 2006 is still in the police, The Nation learned yesterday. It was gathered that the woman, simply identified as Tina, is now a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP). She was unmasked by a Special Investigation Panel (SIP) constituted by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris to probe Evans’ 2006 arrest, a transfer from Lagos State to Imo State and eventual release. After the suspect’s arrest last month, a senior police officer told reporters that his team apprehended Evans in 2006 after a bank robbery. The officer had claimed that Evans and his gang members had a gun duel at the National Theatre in Surulere, Lagos Mainland after a disagreement in sharing their loot, adding that the kingpin was shot and left to die. According to the officer, Tina, who was a Superintendent of Police (SP) at the time, mounted pressure on them to release Evans and two of his members but when her request was not met, she went through Imo State Command, where a signal was sent for the transfer of the suspects. As a result of the revelations, IGP Idris constituted a panel to investigate the 2006 arrest, transfer and eventual release of Evans and his members. The panel was to identify all officers who had a hand in the matter, whether serving or retired. According to a source, the panel has made “reasonable progress” in its investigation because almost all the officers that took part in the “rape of justice” have been identified. He said the police might soon release a statement on the issue. The source said: “I can tell you that Tina is not the woman’s real name but I won’t give you her name. I can also tell you she’s now a CSP and still in service. So many officers took part in that 2006/2007 release of Evans and they are being investigated. The panel has made progress and almost all of them have been identified. An official statement might be release by the authorities soon.” The fundamental rights suit filed by Evans has been assigned to Justice Babs Kuewumi of the Federal High Court in Lagos for adjudication. The case, a source said, has been returned to the registry for temporary assignment to another judge who will sit during the court’s long vacation. The vacation judge handles only urgent motions and cases bordering on human rights violations before they are re-assigned permanently to other judges. The source said: “The case was assigned to Justice Kuewumi. But due to its nature, the judge felt it would be better handled by a vacation judge. “He felt it would not be ideal to adjourn it for hearing until after the long vacation in September. “So, it was the judge who gave parties the July 13 date to appear before the vacation judge after studying the file.” The court will begin its nine-week annual vacation on Monday. It will resume on September 8. A statement by Chief Registrar Emmanuel Gakko reads: “The Federal High Court of Nigeria hereby wishes to notify the general public, lawyers and litigants that the court’s annual vacation for the year 2017 shall commence from Monday, 10th July 2017 and would end onFriday, 8th September 2017. “The court would therefore resume on Monday, the 11th day of September 2017.” Two judges – Justice Abdulazeez Anka and Justice Chuka Obiozor – will take turns to sit during the vacation in the Lagos division. It was not immediately clear who will sit first during the vacation. Evans sued the Inspector-General of Police for alleged violation of his fundamental rights. He is praying the court to compel the police to charge him rather than detaining him indefinitely since June 10. Evans is also demanding N300million damages and an apology for the alleged violation of his rights. In the fundamental rights enforcement suit filed on his behalf by a Lagos lawyer, OlukoyaOgungbeje, the suspected kidnapper said his continued detention without trial was illegal. The police, Lagos Commissioner of Police, Special Anti-Robbery Squad and the Lagos State Police Command are the other respondents. Alternatively, Evans is seeking an order compelling the respondents to immediately release him unconditionally. Evans argued that the respondents ought to have charged him to court in line with Sections 35 and 36 of the Constitution. In a 27-paragraph affidavit in support of the motion deposed to by Evan’s father, Stephen Onwuamadike, it was averred that the applicant had been subjected to media trial without any court’s order. The father said since his son’s arrest, all his family members has been denied access to him while reporters were granted unfettered access to him. An Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, said Evans’ detention was to allow for thorough investigation. “All those who want Evans released did not know that the police had obtained a 90-day warrant to detain him,” said Kyari, who led a special squad that smashed Evans’ gang. Evans had also reportedly denied instructing any lawyer to file a suit on his behalf. “I have no hand in any case filed against the police and I did not speak with any lawyer or my father to file a case on my behalf,” he was quoted as saying in a television interview. Ogungbeje, however, told our correspondent that he was instructed by Evans’ family to file the action. The lawyer said Evans’ father was personally in court to depose to an affidavit in support of the case.

War crimes judges ruled Thursday that South Africa flouted its duties to the International Criminal Court in 2015 by failing to arrest visiting Sudanese President Omar al -Bashir , wanted on genocide charges. The widely expected judgement slapped Pretoria for failing in its obligations and hindering the work of the world ’ s only permanent war crimes tribunal, of which it is a founding member. “ The chamber concludes that by not arresting Omar al -Bashir while he was on its territory… South Africa failed to comply with the court ’ s request for the arrest and surrender ” of the Sudanese leader , said presiding judge Cuno Tarfusser. This was “ contrary ” to the provisions of the court ’ s guiding Rome Statute and prevented it from seeking to prosecute Bashir on 10 charges of war crimes , including three of genocide in Sudan ’ s western Darfur region. But the judges stopped short of referring the matter to the UN Security Council for further action, with Tarfusser saying “ a referral would be of no consequence ” . Despite two international arrest warrants issued in 2009 and 2010, Bashir remains at large and in office as conflict continues to rage in Darfur . In June 2015, he attended an African Union summit in Johannesburg, and despite earlier consultations between ICC and South African officials then flew out of the country again unhindered. The UN Security Council asked the ICC in 2005 to probe the crimes in Darfur , where at least 300, 000 people have been killed and 2. 5 million displaced since ethnic minorities took up arms against Bashir ’ s Arab -dominated government in 2003, according to UN figures . – No diplomatic immunity – Pretoria ’ s lawyers had argued at an April hearing at the ICC there “ was no duty under international law on South Africa to arrest” Bashir , arguing there was “ nothing at all ” in the UN resolution to waive his diplomatic immunity. But ICC prosecutor Julian Nicholls shot back that South Africa “ had the ability to arrest and surrender him and it chose not to do so . ” In the end , the only reason Pretoria did not arrest him was that South Africa “ disagreed with … the law as set out… so it did not comply , ” he said . Judges agreed in Thursday’ s ruling that international obligations cannot “ simply be put aside” if a country disagrees with them , and ruled that in this case Bashir did not enjoy immunity . Bashir , who has been president of Sudan since 1993, has denied all the charges and continues to travel , with Khartoum announcing Monday he will visit Moscow for the first time in August. Russia announced late last year it was withdrawing its signature of the Rome Statute. Based in The Hague , the ICC does not have its own police or enforcement body and relies on other countries to arrest or surrender suspects. And while 124 nations have signed the Rome Statute which underpins the court , it has struggled to shore up its legitimacy at times , faced last year with unprecedented withdrawals and tainted by accusations of bias for focusing too heavily on war crimes in Africa .
