Politics / Re: Yoruba Nation Will Secure Freedom Without Bloodshed –Akintoye by DerideGull(m): 6:06am On Sep 30, 2020
Omooba77:
The President-General of the Yoruba World Congress, Prof. Banji Akintoye, said on Wednesday that the over 55 million Yoruba people in the South-West would get freedom by having the sovereign Yoruba nation without breaking the law of Nigeria or shedding blood.

Akintoye stated this at the YWC House in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, during the celebration of the anniversary of the Kiriji War, which happened over 130 years ago.

The retired don said, “We have been saying we will have the Yoruba nation. The Yoruba World Congress is committed to helping the Yoruba nation to secure its position in the comity of nations.”

Stressing the significance of the struggle, he said, “When we first started the process, we had a total of 45 organisations, but now, we can boast of a total of 107 different organisations.

“They do say that I don’t compromise; it is not every time. But once we say we will take a common stance, I don’t know how to betray. We will get the Yoruba nation free without violence; we will not break the laws of Nigeria. If there is anyone who wants to be violent, we will tell them, no.”

On the proposed rally fixed for October 1 by some youths, he said they reserved the rights to stage the rally, but warned against violence.”

The leader of the Movement for Oduduwa Republic, Mr Akin George, stressed on unity among the Yoruba.

He said, “We can’t fight the enemies if the home front is divided. We may have misunderstanding, but it should not lead to a quarrel.”

Other dignitaries at the celebration were High Chief Lekan Balogun, the Otun Olubadan who represented the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji; the Convener, Yoruba Koya, Otunba Deji Osibogun, among others.

The bolded is a typical slide talk that can only come from Yoruba. He wants to have sovereign state of Oduduwa out of Nigeria yet does not want to break the law of Nigeria. A person who wants a sovereign state does not care about the law which prohibits such as action. If the law matters to the other group, then there will be war. The projected boundaries will attract disputable interests. One goon from the northern region had indicated that Offa is no-go-area for Oduduwa.

It not by opt. You can decide to join a country whenever you feel like. Take at what happened in Nagorno-Karabakh and see how the indecision of a group caused them to remain with a new country they have to similarity with because they did not identify with the larger Armenia prior to when the break up of USSR became serous. They started identifying with Armenia weeks before breakup and such doesn't count if you have a good lawyer

Do you realize our discussion is centered on Africa? Good lawyer or not, we must fight for our freedom. Fence sitters have no cozy place in future. There might be no place called Nagorno-Karabakh in future because the armed conflict between Azerbaijani and Armenian will authoritatively decide what happens next .

You people don't know how far these ipob guys have gone.
For Nigerian leaders to be coming out to announce about the Crack in the unity shows you that a section of a country is about to leave.
For those saying total breakup, Nigeria can never break up totally, only the disputed region might leave. In which case it is almost 90% possibile it won't be the Biafra as you people know but only the Igbos which will comprise of those in south east, almost a in North Central and very few of those in SS (probably just enuani of delta and Orashi people of Rivers state). There is almost 99% chance that ikwerre and 70% of Port Harcourt will remain with Nigeria because Nigerian lawyers have more than enough evidence to make sure that those parts won't even be included in the referendum if there will ever be one. Evidence will come from the Civil War, the abandoned properties and the utterances from their leaders (ọgbakọ ikwerre and politicians)

If the disintegration of the shithole called Nigeria shows up today, you will be surprised on the sections that will opt to join Biafra or even preferably Republic of Igbo land. I am solidly behind the Republic of Igbo land. If England is for English, Igbo land should equally be for Igbo. By the way, it will never come to fruitfulness through referendum. Ndigbo will fight and raise hell for the eternal freedom.

kiss the truth!

What office if I may ask? I guess it takes one marooned miscreant to recognize another.

Litmus:
Op article is stark truth. However some experiences I’ve had in recent years makes me believe that part of Nigeria’s problem is her openness. By this I mean our immigration and nationality processes. We don’t have a grasp of population size; people are not registered at birth, deaths are not registered etc. We cant find out who is Nigerian and who is not.

I’ve met Rwandans that were affected directly by the pogrom that took part there. None of these people hated Rwanda even then. I met these people in London, they were refugees at the time. Some had no family back in Rwanda because Hoto’s wiped them out. I've in fact not met people in all my time alive that hate their nation. NEVER. I find that only so-called Nigerians express such hate for their nation. I spent half my life in Nigeria, half of it abroad. My family has experienced the worst Nigeria can offer yet none of us hate Nigeria. I can tell you right now that no so-called Nigerian youth risking life crossing the Med has had a more difficult time in Nigeria than we have. But I love Nigeria. It is one of the best places to live. I've met the kindest, must honest people in my life in Nigeria. I have traveled throughout Europe, several Caribbean nations, some Asian ones and some South American ones.

Why did I start by stating, ‘experiences I’ve had in recent years makes me believe that part of Nigeria’s problem is her openness’?

I say this, and I have stated this before on Niaraland, I discovered much later that a couple of very close friends that I attended school with in Nigeria, visited their homes, have them come visit our house and stay a few days, partied with, played football etc, were not in fact Nigerians after all. One I found out was Cameroonian and the other one was from Reunion. They grew up in Nigeria. Of course, schooling in Nigeria, there were always people you sort of thought were Nigerians but turned out they were not. But discovering, years later, that my two close friends were not actually Nigerians was eye opening. They were not the ones that told me this, some other Nigerian friends told me in London during some reminiscing about our experiences at School in Nigeria.

So, I guess I’m trying to say that the reason that it appears only Nigerians seem to hate their country is because many of these people may not be actually Nigerian in origin. We just assume that they are because they live or lived in Nigeria and grew up with us and around us.

The problem I have with so-called good and loving Nigerians is their attempt to compare oranges with apples. Hutu are majority in Rwanda while Tutsi are minority. However, the Tutsi gained upper hand due to the vices of colonial powers. The Hutu carried out the pogrom on Tutsi and eventually lost out in the saga due to foreign powers rest of interest. As it stands now in Rwanda, the former refugees are now in power and had the lead in all departmental sections in Rwanda. Why would the former refugee not be happy in Rwanda when he/she found him/her self in corridor of power after years of refugee in foreign land? You simply cannot equate what took place in Rwanda to Nigeria when the goons who perpetrated the pogrom are now in power and never were refugees during the war that followed the pogrom. Nigeria/Biafra fought a bitter war which its outcome has not being balanced. I have never celebrated the birth of Nigeria since 1967 and will not.

The fundamental aim of the Muhamadu Buhari's administration has nothing to do with development of Nigeria. APC is a grand scheme of Islamic jingoists to prepare northern region of Nigeria for impending Jihad. Muhamadu Buhari, with help from his influencers such as Obama, has readied northern region for any eventuality. The roads and railways constructed by the present administration are strategically positioned.

Nigeria cannot work as presently configured. It does not take a genius to detect it. There is no unity and absolutely no love lust beyond tribal lines. I want total and unconditional disintegration. I shall not give a ratass if the shithole called Nigeria is divided into 100 countries as long as Republic of Igbo land is one of them.

Frustration over what?

Is Nigeria not a developing country?

Nigeria is a relatively poor country with a miserable annual budget of 35 billion dollars for 200 million people.

By contrast South Africa's annual budget is 125 billion dollars.

USA, 7.6 TRILLION dollars.

UK, France, Germany etc, all post annual budgets of 1.6. to 2 trillion dollars per annum.

Our youths have this idea that Nigeria is this really rich, wealthy country that only needs to share its resources better, and 'end corruption', for it to become ''like UAE'' and ''Dubai''.

Meanwhile our number one issue is economic diversification away from the meagre oil and gas revenues, to raise govt revenues.

In other words, for people to get off their asses and start businesses all over the country.

The opportunities are endless once you have a Positive Mindset.

No, Nigeria is not yet a developing country. In addition though, simple logic dictates useless country produces useless youths.
