Islamic Republic of Arewa, of course. The goons from Arewa borrowed the money which they used to develop northern region of shithole called Nigeria therefore Arewa shall be solely responsible for the borrowed money. No silly fool will be allowed to bring the dirty name of Nigeria into Republic of Igbo land or even Biafra.

Is this stream of thought that can possibly come out of average Nigerian? If the so-called DSS has intelligence about the danger posed at the area, why did Nigerian militia not ransack the area as they would have done in the so-called Niger Delta?

Read books not craps on the Internet posted by scoundrels of your class. It is so pathetic you cannot figure that structure of government in Nigeria which was overthrown in 1966 had a head of state.

The evil Nigerian Army got power only on innocent civilians in the south. They're so quick to burn down poor villagers homes in the guise of searching for criminals but if it's in the north, you won't see them. Ndi Ekpeye should not keep quiet. They should write a petition against this destruction on that community. When you close your mouth in the face of injustice, you empower the perpetrators.

Boko Haram has waylaid the convoy Borno State governor, which included the army and police, more than once and sourced from on particular place yet Nigeria Army did not burn down any village.

Another Lazy Nigerian Youth arguing what he doesn't know. We practised a Paliamentary system which the British left with us. The Prime minister is the head of Government and he held the number one office in the land just like Boris Johnson is the Prime minister of the United Kingdom today. Presidents are not recognized under Parliamentary system of Govt.

Head of the government does not mean head of state or president of the country or king/Queen of Kingdom. From 1960 to 1965, Nigerian government changed once through election. Tafawa Balewa was lucky his party and coalition partners did not want to change him. Meanwhile Azikwe remained the President of Nigeria, head of state and commander-in-Chief from 1963 to 1966. After 1964 national election, Balewa would have ceased to mean anything to Nigeria if NCNC had decided to form coalition government with AG. In this instance Azikwe would have still remain head of state.

In the intro on Wikipedia it's already stated that with the 1963 constitution, Nigerian practiced a parliamentary system, the Prime Minister was the number one, and the President was a ceremonial role appointed by the Prime Minister.

Don't attempt to rewrite history...
Tafawa Balewa was the Prime minister, the number 1 citizen, the head of state.
A president under the parliamentary system is a figure head post.
He is appointed and not elected.

The title of the thread states - first ladies since independence..
Ziks wife wasn't the first lady
.

You sounded like a dunce. Who accepts the appointment of the prime minister in a parliamentary system of government. A parliamentary government can be dissolved with mere vote of no confidence and the President will order for new election. Tafawa Balewa was one of the ministers. By the way, you need serious adult education.

It was a ceremonial position...

Tafawa Balewa was the leader .

You are one of the idiotic reasons Nigeria is called basket of fools. Tafawa Balewa was not a leader anything. He was not even leader of the party in the coalition government. He was a prime minister like any other ministers during the coalition government. What defined any political position of the era in discuss was Nigerian constitution. There was no place in the constitution a position of ceremonial was written. Azikiwe was the first indigenous Governor-General and President of Nigeria. His presidency was as constitutional as the presidency of Buhari. If your laziness will permit you, I suggest you read the section 85 of 1963 Nigerian constitution which stipulated the positions and authorities of the officials of Nigeria.

247updated:
Oh giant of Africa Arise!...

Nigeria is regarded as the most populous black nation in the world and its called the “Giant of Africa”. Oh! Interesting..

I heard that 1 in 4 Africans is a Nigerian. That may no longer be factually correct. Current (2017/2018) estimates are Africa = 1.27bn, Nigeria = 195m. Ratio is 1.27bn/195m = 6:1. Roughly 1 in 6 Africans is Nigerian.

I heard that there is population that is hardworking, fantastic agriculture, unbridled drive to succeed and strong GDP, Nigeria was an economic superpower. In the 1970s and up to 1985, the currency was much stronger than the US dollar at an average of N0.65 kobo to N0.90k for USD 1. In 1986, Nigeria implemented the Structural Adjustment programme which required a reformation of the foreign exchange system as required by the IMF/World Bank et al, and things went downhill from then. In 1986 the FX rate declined to over N2 to USD1. In 1987 the decline doubled as the FX rate fell further to N4 to USD 1. Guess who benefited from this and who lost overall. The discovery of crude oil made Nigeria very rich and we were able to build strong infrastructure, Universities, Telecoms, TV, Arts (Nigeria hosted FESTAC 77), Music, Poetry and other literary works, national airline (Nigeria Airways) that was the best in Africa, sports (Nigeria dominated the All Africa Games for years) military, etc. We helped other countries in terms of food aid to famine ridden countries, resolution of internal conflicts and award of scholarships to Africans. Not so much now! Gone are the glory days of Nigeria. Corruption has brought the country toits knees today. What a Shame!!

I heard that there is still political influence. This is tied to 2 above as the wealth made it possible for Nigeria to exert political influence in the world and at the UN, particularly independence for the rest of Africa through the OAU (now called AU). This enabled Nigeria to engage actively with the pan Africanism movement that swept across the continent. Nigeria was also very directly active in campaigns for the proscription of racism and apartheid in South Africa.

Oh giant of Africa Arise!....
Nigeria is the only African country listed among the “Next Eleven” economies poised to become the biggest economies in the 21st century. The Nigerian economy is the 4th fastest growing economies in the world, Without doubt, Nigeria has the largest university educated population in Africa, Nigeria is the only nation in Africa’s with the most prosperous middle class of about 50 million people, Nigeria is on the list of top 10 strongest and most powerful military forces in Africa. Nigeria holds the record as the first black country in Africa and in the world where cars are manufactured locally. Nigeria is the first black country to launch a space satellite, Nigeria has the fastest growing construction industry in the world. Nigeria is seen as the leader in the centre of Africa’s foreign policy and has been playing a leadership role in Africa’s economy and politics, providing support and assistance where and when needed.

OH giant of Africa arise!
Nigeria has potential, What Makes the difference is bringing that potential to life?
The political leaders do not seem to be taking responsibility for problems in the country as everyone is blaming everyone else. Nigeria’s leaders, it appears, hate to be held accountable for anything. It is also proper to note that the root cause of the present social, political, and economic predicaments in the society is not the making of the leaders alone, but collective selfishness. Everybody in Nigeria, it seems, wants to be in a leadership position whether or not they have the skills and knowledge to stimulate a healthy competition, increase the wealth of the nation, and thus, create economic opportunity for everyone. Leadership is not about revenue sharing but about moving people to action to create wealth. These actions are possible with leaders who are committed to improving the living conditions of the people. The challenges facing Nigeria appear to be deep-rooted in the mind-sets of the leaders and the nation’s extractive political and economic institutions. As a result, there is a serious disconnect between ego-system thinking and eco-system reality It has aptly been noted that the state of our mind-sets or mental models (Senge, 2006) affect what we do our performance, decision-making process, and how we manage ourselves.

I heard a voice asking who is speaking? I am the voice crying in the great crowd!

Arise Oh Giant of Africa!..
To serve our fatherland with love and strength and faith, do not let the labour of our heroes past never be in vain, stand up to serve with heart and might, one nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.

Arise giant of Africa! and take your place
Happy independence giant of Africa..

By Oghenemarho Ebruphiyor Victory.

Point of correction, Nigeria is most populous African nation in the world. Please stop wearing inferior mentality. If you want to sound or look inferior, please localize it to your silly self and not to include entire country such as Nigeria.

The silly talk of referendum and restructure is mere copout. Most people in Nigeria and more so those outside knew the country cannot progress as configured. All we need is to start the process of disengagement. Ndigbo want to form Republic of Igbo land. Some Yoruba have recently indicated they also want to create Republic of Oduduwa. There is no time waste on referendum or silly restructure.

The truth is that there's absolute NOTHING you can tell Nnadi Kanu or the South East people to believe in one Nigeria. If 2023 Presidency cannot convinced them, then what else?

The talk of revolution in Nigeria partners the idea of the silly restructure. The two have no chance in Nigeria. The best chance to achieve anything meaningful from the shithole called Nigeria is unconditional disintegration. I would not mind if 100 nations are caved out of Nigeria as long as Republic of Igbo land is one of them.

Politics / Re: Bisi Akande: Yoruba Will Be At War For 100 Years If Nigeria Breaks Up by DerideGull(m): 11:24am On Sep 30, 2020
Racoon:

Bisi Akande, former interim chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the Yoruba will be at war for 100 years if Nigeria breaks up.

Speaking at the inauguration of a project by Adebayo Adelabu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in Ibadan on Monday, Akande said those calling for a Yoruba nation should have a rethink.

The former governor of Osun said the Yoruba breaking away from Nigeria may lead to bloodshed and an avoidable civil war “that would further decimate the people”.

“Those agitating for a Yoruba nation should have a rethink. This country must remain united to save it from war,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“Yoruba will be in war for another 100 years if Nigeria is allowed to break.”

While calling on those seeking a Yoruba nation to bury the idea, Akande said Nigeria is a product of war.The former governor said those who are tormenting the country are doing so because they are products of failed states.

“Those tormenting Nigeria are doing so because they are products of failed states. It is a difficult task to stop crimes, particularly in a corrupt society,” he said.

“Now that some Nigerians are talking about breaking because of difficulties, they didn’t know that a man who cannot endure will collapse and die. Only enduring countries can stay.On his part, Adelabu, APC governorship candidate in Oyo in the 2019 elections, described his defeat at the poll “as a delay, not denial”.

He said his experience at the poll will make him a better governor when elected into office, adding that he will run for office again in 2023.

Stop disgracing yourself. Umuahia was the second capital of eastern Nigeria and the capital of Owerri province. Lokoja was not the capital of northern protectorate it was only the administrative center of the British Royal company before the British government established protectorates and direct rule. The administrative capital of northern protectorate was Zengeru in the present Niger state before the regional capital was moved to Kaduna.

At the time of the protectorates, Nigeria had only 3 colonies i.e Lagos, northern and southern protectorates which had their capitals in Lagos, Zengeru and Calabar respectively. Go and look for Nigerian map as at 1953.

In the era in discuss, the colonialists used administrative headquarters instead of capital. Umuahia was a cattle market. The colonialist and missionaries chose Uzoakoli hence Leper colony and Methodist missionaries. In fact during this era, people who domiciled in Umuahia used to travel to Uzoakoli for jobs. Umuahia was a complete backwater until Dr. Michael Okpara became the premier of eastern region. Most administrative headquarters of the colonialists usual follow the stream of their economic or religious interest. Owerri had became the hub for the Europeans via Shell D'arcy due to crude oil exploration in 1940s.
