RabbiDoracle: If you have made like over 200% gain and you are ok with it knowing that your target was 150% gain, sell in tranches....60% of your holdings. Watch the market if the herds are still bidding high, dash them another 20%
Continue watching, if it goes high again....dash them 19% ...and just keep between 200k too 1m units of that stock just to use and answer PRESENT SIR during roll call. |

Shed weight if you can.
There is news of militants wanting to start blowing pipelines again. If this isn't checked by the government, it won't go well in the market.

Parisfran: A lot of stocks have done that. Even last year UBA was about 3 Naira and I feel it will touch 20 Naira. Diamond and Fidelity were pretty high before they fell as low as N1. If our macroeconomic activity keeps being good, most stocks could touch their all time highs in a few months.
Full disclosure I sold my Caverton with a healthy profit because I know that it has liquidity issues. I added to my fbnh with the money, no regrets yet. This is what I keep preaching!!! You can now sleep at night, even if the exchange does not open for 1yr..... You might have chosen to leave 'regret resistant' units to continue in the bus... |

RabbiDoracle: At GTB current price, if they pay N2 as dividend, it is a dividend yield less than 4%
DY are getting smaller.
My rule is to follow DY when the bears come or go with price appreciation when DY falls(during bulls). Very few stocks will do 10% DY.
Your strategy may be different. Same strategy I use. Reason why I can't touch GTB for now. Everything has been priced in. I love the gap it is creating...... |

Parisfran: I wonder why we can hold a losing stock for 4 years but a winning stock after 3 weeks will be doing us to sell.
I got my FCMB stock at the average cost of N 1.11 last year, when it made 100%, it took every fiber of my being for me not to sell it. We want to be value investors and read Benjamin Graham but to actually live the rules and methods is such a big challenge.
I'm an active reader of this thread and I don't comment much but I digest everything here. One of the most beautiful stories I have read here is about the guy that bought FO at N10 and sold at N200. There is no telling which stock will be my 2015 FO, but I don't even pretend to guess which of my 10 stocks will do that but I know that its only if I sit tight and follow my thought out system that I can possibly achieve that. I also know of a Company that got ACCESS bank shares for about N2 in 2006 and sold for N19 in 2007. We don't underestimate a Bear era in this forum (which is a good thing), lets not also underestimate a Bull era. The rules for both are different. If MMM could hold our attention as Nigerians for 1 yr before it finally ended, there is no telling when this mad bull of ours would end. It could be tomorrow and it could also be in 9 months. I know the trading week might start tomorrow and throw all my analysis inside gutter, but I only live once The Banana pusher is yet to hear of NSE this year...... GTB has pushed another door open, let's peep inside first.... There may be a truckload of weapons inside to dare the bear... I always use GTB as an indicator, but hardly hold it for long, as it wastes my time for the kind of returns I seek... |

safepaulooo: Even if we are long way, irs Important to ask, is it a sprint to the finish line in one month dash or a year long marathon? Personally I think the latter applies. The growth in market indices to desired target will span the entire 2018. So be wise to discern it's temporary breaks. My opinion..... When you first set out on a journey, even a bad vehicle may appear smooth until you have gone very far.... Do some TBILLS within the market from your loot. Leave some units to keep running.... Even some TBILLS in the market will return almost the same, without the associated uncertainties..... E.g: Diamond may no longer (rare) reach N5.' WITHOUT' ACCESS moving to N18.... You know I have both, but I have started shifting the scales HEAVILY for obvious reasons..... |

MYMINDER: Foreign investors have a minimum market capitalization screen for stocks in countries. Only Access survives this initial screening. It is not about the price per share but the market value of the company as an INITIAL filter when it comes to foreign institutional investment. Be informed. I need some light here, please exemplify and expand. We are here first to learn, then make money unaided. Thanks. |

Notes to myself: Please, do not take posts too seriously now until CALM returns to this market. Doubt everything you read or hear from anywhere going forward. Keep your rule book always open and close to you now, more than ever. Never ignore BBM's consistent 'PYT and TYP'. Do not engage an unknown button mid-flight due to high frequency noise. Fear nothing, but remain cautiously sensible and do not throw away RISK MANAGEMENT and PORTFOLIO SIZING. Over diversification is especially risky now as your brain will catch fire if you have to suddenly start rushing simultaneously out of 9 or more doors when a severe pullback strikes. . No one can be sure he is thinking rightly now to advise me. ..... |
