Politics / Re: POST-ELECTION: THE TRUE DEMOCRAT? Vs ABRAHAM LINCOLN OF AFRICA by desmondokoye: 10:35pm On Apr 01, 2015
Jonathan was faced with two options:

1. Leave the office honourably by allowing the masses decide and thus retain what’s left of his integrity.
2. Rig the election and lose face in the international communities thereby making the next four years horrible for himself and for Nigerians.

He obviously for the first time made a wise decision by and for himself. He picked the first option.

Politics / MTN Stop Spamming Our Inbox - An Online Campaign Trend by desmondokoye: 11:39pm On Feb 06, 2015
Today I (@desmondokoye) start an online campaign against the useless, worthless and time wasting text messages greedy network companies like MTN send to our phones.

It is a breach in privacy and I don't see the reason why we get bunch of useless and distracting text messages daily from MTN especially.

They sell our information to third party companies who then use us for cheap advertising.

They care less of customer privacy doing as they will as under the sleeping and corrupt eye of the NCC.

It is indeed not fair, we as clients should have a say if we want these or not. Our mobile number is personal, why monetize it dear MTN?

How many times have you rushed for your phone only to see a useless message?

You are greeted every morning lots of random messages.

You are driving/ or in class/ or in the theatre/ or at a meeting and get distracted by 10s of stupid messages.

We should have a say if we want crap or Not dear MTN.

SHARE THIS IF THIS AFFECTS YOU TOO AND YOU ARE FED-UP

Politics / MUTINY: Four More Soldiers Sentenced To Death By Firing Squad by desmondokoye: 2:04pm On Dec 25, 2014
The Nigerian military court-martial sitting in Abuja has sentenced another group of four soldiers, accused of mutiny, to death by firing squad.

The court delivered its judgment Wednesday night in another case involving five soldiers.

Bankole Taiwo (lance corporal), Ayodele Olawale (lance corporal), Isaiah Olofu (lance corporal) and Adebayo Gbenga (private) were convicted and sentenced to death while Sule Ochehepo (lance corporal) was discharged and acquitted.

According to a source familiar with the trial, “the allegation against the soldiers was that they asked “inciting questions” from their Commanding Officer of 81 Batallion when he addressed them on September 14, 2013.

“The questions pertained to the corpses of some of their colleagues brought to the camp after they were killed by the Boko Haram terrorists due to lack of weapons. The charge of mutiny was that the 5 soldiers “incited soldiers of 81 Bn to mutiny against the authority of 7 Division of Nigerian Army”.

They pleaded double jeopardy that they had been tried summarily by their commanding officer, convicted and sentenced and that they had served the punishment, our source said.

“The record of proceedings of the earlier trial was tendered and admitted in evidence by the court-martial. But the court-martial headed by Brig-General M.S Yusuf did not consider the defence of the soldiers,” the source added.

Altogether, 71 soldiers have been sentenced to death for protesting alleged non-payment of salaries and allowances and failure of the authorities to provide equipment to confront the well-equipped Boko Haram troops.

Hundreds of other soldiers are currently awaiting trial in Abuja, Jos and Lagos for mutiny, negligence and cowardice and allied offences. They are due to be arraigned after the Christmas vacation.

The judgment on the five soldiers came just about a week after another batch of 54 soldiers were condemned to death for refusing to fight the deadly Boko Haram sect.

The 54 soldiers belonged to the 111 Special Forces battalion attached to the 7 division of the army in Maiduguri. They are to die by firing squad, the military court ruled last week.

The soldiers were accused of disobeying a direct order from superior officers to take part in an operation aimed at dislodging Boko Haram terrorists from Delwa, Bulabulin and Damboa in Borno State.

The soldiers said they refused to take part in the operation because the Army did not provide them with the required combat and support equipment needed for such operations.

Also, in September, 12 soldiers were sentenced to death by firing squad for shooting at a car conveying their commanding officer, Ahmed Mohammed, a Major General.

The attack occurred May 14 at the army’s 7 Division, Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, headed at the time by Mr. Mohammed.

Others were also sentenced to life in jail for criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit murder.

The soldiers revolted after some of their colleagues were ambushed and killed by Boko Haram extremists, an attack they blamed their commander for.

Yet, more soldiers remain on trial for their conducts in the fight against the extremist sect, and face being sentenced to death.

On Tuesday, another batch of 118 soldiers were transported from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to face charges in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

It is not clear when the troops would be arraigned before the military court, but our sources said unlike their colleagues who were convicted December 17, the 118 soldiers are accused of offences less than mutiny.

Also, 22 top officers, including a brigadier general, are being held at the Ikeja Military Cantonment in Lagos, preparatory to being arraigned for yet unclear offences.

They could not be arraigned on December 22 because the court was not properly constituted.

Their arraignment has now been scheduled for a date in January.

The convicted soldiers, apart from the four that were sentenced Wednesday, have been moved to Lagos to await appeal, pardon or execution.

Politics / Obasanjo Is An Overgrown Child Of Circumstance – Prof. Wole Soyinka by desmondokoye: 1:57pm On Dec 25, 2014
Wole Soyinka, a professor and Nobel Laureate, has described ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo as “an overgrown child of circumstance”. Reacting to the criticism of his personality in My Watch, the autobiography of the former president, Soyinka referred to Obasanjo as “an infliction that those of us who share the same era and nation space must learn to endure”. Obasanjo had said the Nobel Laureate was “a misfit as a political analyst, commentator or critic”, adding that Soyinka “loves taking the lead on all matters”. “I take him seriously on almost all issues except on the political, particularly Nigerian politics,” Obasanjo wrote in the book. “For Wole, no one can be good, nor can anything be spot-on politically except that which emanates from him or is ordained by him. His friends and loved ones will always be right and correct no matter what they do or fail to do. “He is surely a better wine connoisseur and a more successful aparo [guinea fowl] hunter than a political critic, not to talk of what he would do as a politician.” But in a piece titled ‘Watch And Pray, Watch And Prey’, the scholar lampooned Obasanjo for directing such caustic words at him. Tracing their relationship to the civil war era, Soyinka described as a liar, the man who goes into history as having occupied the highest office in the country for the longest period. “Unfortunately, not all acts of defamation or willful misrepresentation are actionable, otherwise, my personal list against this newly revealed fellow-sufferer would have counted for an independent volume of the Nigerian Law Report since our paths first crossed during the Civil War,” Soyinka said. “My commitment to the belief in the fundamental right of all human beings NOT TO BE LIED AGAINST remains a life obsession, and thus demands, at the very least, an obligation of non-commission among fellow victims. “I must therefore reserve a full, frontal dissection of Obasanjo’s ‘My Watch’ for later, most especially since the work itself is currently under legal restraint and is not readily accessible to a general readership. “I despise that species of humanity whose stock-in-trade is to concoct lies simply to score a point, win an argument, puff up his or her own ego, denigrate or attempt to destroy a fellow being. “I remarked, his fiction remains a prescient and cautionary mirror of the society we inhabit, where beasts of the forest appear to have a greater moral integrity than those who claim to be leading lights of society.” Apparently referring out to some individuals who tried to reconcile him and Obasanjo in the past, Soyinka ruled out any possibility of reuniting with his contemporary. “Perhaps I ought to interrupt myself here with an apology to some mutual acquaintances – ‘blessed peacemakers’ and all – especially in this season of ‘peace and goodwill to all men’,” he wrote. “I had a cordial exchange with Obasanjo over the phone recently – engineered by himself, his ground staff and/or a chance visitor – when I had cause to visit his Presidential Laundromat for the first time ever. “I promised a follow-up visit to view some mysterious rock script whose existence, he informed me, was uncovered by workers during ground clearing. The exchange was, in short, as good as ‘malice towards none’. Obviously, that visit will not now take place any more. “It does appear that there is no end to this individual’s capacity for infantile mischief, and for needless, mind-boggling provocations, such as his recent ‘literary’ intrusion on my peace. “There are individuals who are born incorrigible but, more importantly, that some issues transcend one’s personal preferences for harmonious human relationships even in a season of traditional good will. “Since we are both acquainted with the Yoruba proverb that goes: ‘the child that swears his mother will not sleep must also prepare for a prolonged, sleepless infancy’. So let it be with Okikiola, the overgrown child of circumstance.”

Celebrities / Tonto Dikeh Finally Shares The Meaning Of ‘POKO’ by desmondokoye: 12:41pm On Aug 13, 2013
Famous Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh, who most love to hate, has finally revealed the meaning of her favourite slang ‘POKO‘!

Who got the actress-turned-musician to loosen her tongue? None other than another controversial person – Sudanese-Egyptian author and poet Kola Boof herself!

Putting Tonto Dike and Kola Boof in the same sentence on any other occasion would probably be disastrous, but things actually didn’t turn out that bad between them as they exchanged pleasantries on social network Twitter.

Boof asked Tonto what the meaning of ‘Poko’ was, assuming it was a movie, and Tonto responded, explaining it is the name of her alter-ego.

Tonto has used the slang in her songs and in thousands of her tweets and in July announced she would give out N1m to one lucky Twitter fan that got the meaning of ‘Poko’.

Guess no one gets to be a millionaire. But then, her response begs the question: How does one name one’s alter-ego “Poko’?

Phones / Samsung Should Sue Tecno. by desmondokoye: 6:38am On Jun 27, 2013
While samsung is in heat of a patent fight with apple, they are losing sight of others tech companies like 'techno' who I believe have infringed on most of samsung's patent. The new techno N7 not only looks like their recently released galaxy s4 but also sells cheaper. From far view, one could claim its a samsung galaxy series but at close view, its appears to be the otherwise.
I can't really say for sure if samsung company is already aware of this the exact copy of alll their smart phones and tablets or mayb techno were given the green card or mayb samsung can't do anytin since both are korean comapnies.
In my opinion, I suggest this iSsue is looked into cos techno apparently seems to be taking the nigerian market by storm with their cheap price of smart fones.
A good market strategy. Meanwhile, I do hope samsung comes out victorious in her current patent heat with apple.
