PoliticsFG Denies Placing #EndSARS Promoters On 'No-Fly' List by Despirado121(op): 3:15pm On Nov 03, 2020
The Ministry of Interior has denied allegation it is compiling a list of leading voices of the #EndSARS campaign to place them on travel ban.

The ministry denied the allegation following a report by Peoples Gazette that the interior ministry under Rauf Aregbesola requested from the Department of State Services if it had a profile of key supporters of the protests, Igbere TV reports.

The online news platform quoted a DSS official attached to civil aviation who said the list was yet to be formally circulated but that six people suspected of participating in the protest were already prevented from traveling last week.

“I know six people have been prevented from travelling to Europe and Dubai because of the troubles they put the government through with their campaign against security workers,” the official was quoted saying.

“The immigration people are already doing their own work, but we have not received any list from the headquarters.”

Among those barred from travelling, the report said, was a male whose passport was issued in Atlanta, United States in February 2016. The name was not revealed.

The interior ministry said in a tweet on Tuesday that the report was false.

“The Ministry of Interior did not, has not and will not generate any no-fly list. Ignore fake news please!” it said.

Politics#EndSARS: Gov. Ikpeazu Promises Cash Rewards for Victims of Police Brutality by Despirado121(op): 7:54pm On Oct 21, 2020
Amid continuing protests in Abia State by the EndSARS agitators, the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has announced cash gifts for the victims of brutality and extra-judicial actions committed by some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) – the dissolved tactical unit of the Nigeria Police Force in the state, Igbere TV reports.

The governor announced this during a statewide broadcast on the security situation in Abia State on Wednesday.

Below is the full transcript of the broadcast;

“MY GOOD PEOPLE OF ABIA STATE

“I am addressing you today to keep you updated on the unfolding situation in the country and Abia State in particular and the latest developments as well as the steps we have taken as a Government in response to the developments.

“As you are all aware, a lot of Nigerians, comprising mostly of the youths, have been protesting for over a week now to request the disbandment of a Police Unit and draw general attention to incidences of Police maltreatment of citizens Nationwide. The protests have also held in Aba and Umuahia in Abia State.

“I wish to place it on record that I agree that peaceful protests are a legitimate means of ventilating anger in a democratic setting and I therefore agree with the rights of the citizens especially of Abia State to peacefully protest any situation that they are uncomfortable with. You will also agree that the Abia State Government and her officials have ensured that the legitimate peaceful protesters have been given every avenue to ventilate their grievances.

"It has however become obvious that the legitimate protesters have been unable to control the spread of the protest and have allowed it to degenerate into civil disobedience which has been hijacked by criminal elements as a means to foment trouble, endanger lives and damage public property.

“A situation where a Policeman will be killed, Police stations attacked and burnt down with other harm to government infrastructure, is sadly outside the realm of acceptable conducts in the cause of a protest. Citizens have become apprehensive with clear and present danger to lives of Ndi Abia and no responsible Government will sit back and allow this state of affairs to continue.

“Over the last 5 years, we have managed to keep Abia State very peaceful through the instrumentality of security agencies working in concert with Government and the citizenry and we intend to take all legitimate steps to safeguard the peace and security of the State and its inhabitants.

“We are not unmindful of the fact that some people are not happy with the peaceful atmosphere in the state and will seek any available means to foment trouble for their nefarious and political ends but we will continue to frustrate their efforts at every turn.

"As a response to the initial demands of the protesters, we have set up a Judicial Panel of Inquiry chaired by a former Chief Judge of Abia State, Hon. Justice S.N. Imo with 70% of the membership made up of youths and those familiar with the situation. We are awaiting their report and I pledge to work with relevant agencies to ensure full implementation of the outcome.

“Furthermore, the Abia State government has provided a cash reward for any individual with incontrovertible evidence of police brutality and high-handedness that will help the Panel with its assignment.

“We have also announced a cash reward for those who will give us information about the criminal elements who carted away the arms and ammunitions of Police Officers who were attacked in Aba yesterday.

"I also wish to remind us that we have diligently ensured the arrest and prosecution of all officers who have been involved in highhandedness on citizens. Our records of intolerance to the maltreatment of Abians by security operatives speak for us. We therefore advise restraint and maturity on the part of the agitators while assuring them that the Abia State Government does not support the attack on innocent peaceful protesters.

“Let me also place it on record that the Abia State Government did not and has no intention to order the arrest of any peaceful protester and any report to the contrary should be discountenanced.

“I wish to emphasize that no sitting Governor controls rule of engagement of security agents but we shall ensure that all allegations of high handedness by security agents will be investigated by the judicial panel. But we encourage our people not to confront armed security agents as doing so might lead to unfortunate outcomes.

"I have just finished a Security Council Meeting with Service Commanders of all Security Formations in the State and all hands are on deck to keep the people of Abia State safe and ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order.

“Ndi Abia Ndi Nwem, I am aware that we are still recovering from the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic and our economy is not in the best state at the moment.

“It is therefore my view that what we, especially Ndigbo, need at the moment, is a peaceful atmosphere and the right ambience for our businesses to flourish. This is a key priority of this government and we are dedicated to creating that environment.

“As your Governor, exercising the mandate of security and protection of your lives, livelihoods and properties, I shall not allow our people to be cajoled, overwhelmed and intimidated in the course of their legitimate endeavours and I pledge to keep you safe at all times.

“It is for this reason that we have taken the painful but necessary step of imposing a curfew in Aba and Umuahia. It began by 6pm on October 20 and we will be reviewing prevailing security situations to decide on next steps. The curfew is a temporary measure meant to ensure the restoration of law and order in the state.

“We regret the inconveniences this will cause our citizens and residents and urge everyone not on essential duty to stay indoors for the duration. Law enforcement agents have been detailed to act decisively against anyone willfully disobeying the order. As is the custom, all essential service providers validly identified are exempted from the curfew.

“Let me also register my concern over the turn of events in other parts of the country and urge all relevant authorities to find peaceful means of resolving the situation so as to douse the current state of apprehension that has gripped the Nation.

“Dear Abians, let me once again reiterate our resolve to ensure the nurturing of an enabling environment for citizens to express their fundamental human rights while also assuring that we are fully committed to ensuring that our state does not descend into anarchy and lawlessness.

“I fully understand the issues that gave birth to the initial peaceful protests and share the pains of our people. But in protesting injustice, we should not allow injustice to be done to innocent citizens and institutions.

“As your elected Governor, I wish to call on all our youths to stand down now and allow us to do the needful to redress their grievances. I do not want any more Abia life to be lost and I am therefore appealing for calm and good sense. Nobody starts a fire in his mother’s kitchen and nobody cuts his nose to spite his face.

“Umu Abia, we have to be wary of those imported to cause problem in our state. We do not have any other state as ours than Abia.

“Whatever is our personal and collective grievances can and will certainly be resolved. Ndi Abia, please call your children and encourage them to stand down for peace to reign.

"We have to do this to avoid losing control of the situation and allow forces outside the state to have reason to unleash death, sorrow and tears on our people. Please Ndi Abia ndi nwem, ka anyi jiri ako n’uche mee ihe. Onye ndi Iro gbara gburugburu na eche ndu ya nche.

“I thank you all for listening and urge you all to please stay safe.”

“Covenant University is not doing covid-19 test for students! They lied to our parents. They are only doing pregnancy and drug test! I resumed today and all they did was take my urine and blood sample.

“@ogsgofficial please help! I am scared to my wits! Retweet when you see this,” the alleged student said.

She continued: “They brought out only 2 canopies to search and test us. We were so many! Rain fell and they left us under the rain. Our provisions were destroyed and our luggages soaked to the last.

“One of the staffs even said that if any of us is infected, that we should not worry that papa is praying. That we should forget COVID-19.

“And to top it all, in the hostels, we are FOUR in a room! FOUR! No difference from every other semester before COVID-19.”

Igbere TV reports that the school, however, released a video on Tuesday which appeared to counter the alleged student’s claims.

“Please let’s all adhere to this guidelines & protocols so as to ensure a smooth screening exercise going forward,” the school captioned its Twitter post.

Covenant University is owned by Living Faith Church Worldwide also known as Winners Chapel which is managed by Bishop David Oyedepo.

CelebritiesDuncan Mighty Not Kidnapped, Was Arrested Over Fraud Allegation – Police by Despirado121(op): 12:53pm On Dec 14, 2019
Imo state Police command has revealed that musician, Duncan Mighty, was arrested on Saturday over allegation of fraud and not kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

The Port Harcourt-based singer was initially rumoured to have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

However, Imo police spokesman, Godson Ikeokwu, said in a statement that Duncan Mighty was arrested following allegation of fraud.

“This followed a petition written by an upcoming rap artist M2, who claimed that the Imo State Government led by Owelle Rochas Okorocha, through the office of the SA on Entertainment, entered into a deal with Duncan Mighty to manage, promote, arrange collaboration with other top artiste and sign M2 under YOUNG WEALTH record label owned by Duncan Mighty, as a result, an agreement was reached with a fee of ELEVEN MILLION NAIRA (N11,000,000) paid to him, However, since collecting the payment he refused to fulfill his own part of the deal,” the statement said.

Duncan had in October raised alarm that his life was under threat over the deal.

The police spokesman, however, added: “Sequel to the petition, the artiste was arrested, and he affirmed having such agreement and collecting the fund, but said he can only refund the money if the contract is terminated, he was then released on bail on self recognizance.

“Consequently, a letter was reviewed by the representative of the former Governor, terminating the contract to enable him refund the money, and since then he absconded, and all efforts made to reach him proved abortive.

“In view of the above, a warrant of arrest was issued, that led to his arrest at the early hours of Saturday.”

Christianity EtcAnglican Church Bans Use Of Brochure, Asoebi At Funerals by Despirado121(op): 5:19am On Dec 09, 2019
Niger has banned the printing of brochure and ceremonial dresses aka `Asoebi’ during burial rites of its members at the diocese to reduce burial cost. Ven. Ikechukwu Ihemtuge, Vicar in charge of St. Andrew’s Church, Obosi, disclosed this during the church service on Sunday in Obosi Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra.

Ihemtuge said the diocese took the decision at its June 2019 synod of its 19 archdeaconry at Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

“The decision was that of the church to checkmate burial frivolities of the faithful and reduce the burial challenges of its members,” he said. He advised the faithful who came for outing services after the burial of their beloved ones to be informed of the new diocese laws on burial rites and advised other faithful to abide by the law. Ihemtuge said that the new law commenced from July 1 after the decision was taken in June and appealed to faithful to key into the new law for their own benefits.

“The church has discovered that many people during the burial of their loved ones encounter lots of challenges in the name of befitting burials.

“What is befitting in Christian burial is the relationship established between the people and their God and the worthy legacy after the people are gone,” he said. Ihemtuge said that the visiting official of the synod implementation committee was in the church to ensure that the decisions of the diocese in the last synod meeting were announced to the faithful.

Addressing the faithful, Mrs Tina Okoye said the decisions was to avert crime and desperation associated with the burial activities to impress people, as only God should be impressed and not man. (NAN)

FamilyCourt Dissolves 11-year-old Marriage Over Sex Starvation by Despirado121(op): 5:08pm On Dec 06, 2019
Chief Ademola Odunade, the President of a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, on Friday dissolved the 11-year-old marriage between one Kazeem Amzat and wife, Adijat, over sex starvation and adulterous lifestyle.

In his judgment, Odunade held that the court had done everything possible to settle the problem between Kazeem and Adijat, all to no avail.

He subsequently pronounced the marriage dissolved in the interest of peaceful living.

Odunade awarded custody of the two children produced by the union to Adijat and directed Kazeem to pay N10,000 as the children’s monthly feeding allowance in addition to being responsible for their education and other welfare needs.

Earlier, Kazeem, a private security guard, had told the court that he was fed up with his wife because she regularly starved him of sex.

He further said that his parents-in-law were in support of the divorce suit he filed because they were also frustrated by their daughter’s attitude.

“Since we had our last child, more than five years ago, Adijat has not allowed me to perform my conjugal duties with her.

“She keeps giving excuses of babies sleeping on the bed.

“I allowed her and the children to be sleeping on the bed because they are small but I observed that she no longer loves me because she now sleeps with men outside.

“At various times, I have caught Adijat in a compromising position with a particular man who lives near her shop.

“Also, she disrespects my mother and other relatives, comparing them with animals,’’ Kazeem said.

The respondent, who consented to the suit, however, denied some of the allegations levelled against her.

In her counter-argument, Adijat said that her husband was irresponsible.

“It is true that I no longer allow Kazeem to sleep with me and it is simply because I don’t want him to infect me with Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDS).

“Whenever I am not at home, he brings in his concubine and his relatives are aware he does this.

“In fact, Kazeem has turned me to his slave and beats me often.

” Furthermore, Kazeem’s mother joins him in molesting me inspite of the fact that he doesn’t fend for the children and me.

“Even when I gave birth, he never gave me anything nutritious to eat,’’ Adijat said.

BusinessJohnmary Jideobi: Allen Onyema Should Not Be Extradited To US - Lawyer To Court by Despirado121(op): 10:08pm On Nov 26, 2019
A Nigerian Lawyer and human rights activist, Johnmary Jideobi, has instituted a suit in the Federal High Court in Abuja for the enforcement of the fundamental human rights of the embattled Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, who is facing fraud allegations in the United States of America.

The Abuja based legal practitioner in the suite no: FHC/ABJ/CS/1446/2019 filed on Monday, and a copy obtained by PRNigeria, asked the court to bar the Federal Government of Nigeria and Attorney General of the Federation/Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, as well as other agencies of government from harassing or extraditing Mr Onyema to the U.S. against his will.

He sought seven-point reliefs including a declaration by the court that the federal government and or any of its agencies with prosecutorial powers as represented by Mr Malami who is the respondent ” is/are without powers to abridge the fundamental right of Onyema to freedom of movement as donated by Section 35 of the amended 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

The lawyer also wants the court to declare “that on the authority of Diamond Bank PLC vs. Opara (2018) LPELR-43907(SC) the Federal Government of Nigeria and or any of its agencies with prosecutorial powers as represented by the Respondent herein cannot derogate from the constitutional right to freedom of movement by attempting to forcefully expel and or extradite Onyema from the shores of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to any other country of the world for the purposes of any criminal trial whose substance arose from underlying civil aviation contracts”.

He also wants the court to declare that they “cannot give effect to any extradition request from any country of the world in so far as the ingredients or constituent facts of the indictment and or charges underlying the said request are traceable to or related with or arose from diverse civil aviation contracts entered into by Onyema through his duly registered companies with other duly registered companies in other jurisdictions especially in the United States of America”.

Mr Jideobi also sought an order of the court to perpetually bar “the Federal Government of Nigeria and or any of its agencies with prosecutorial powers as represented by the Respondent herein either by themselves, their servants, privies, assigns or any other person or authority acting either in concert with them, on their behalf or under them from giving effect to any extradition request from any country of the world in so far as the ingredients or constituent facts of the indictment and or charges underlying the said request are traceable to or related with or arose from diverse civil aviation contracts entered into by Onyema through his duly registered companies with other duly registered companies in other jurisdictions especially in the United States of America”.

He also sought a court order perpetually barring the Federal Government of Nigeria and or any of its agencies from attempting to or seeking to harass, threaten to arrest, inviting and or arresting the applicant in relation with the civil contract he mutually entered into through his duly registered companies with other aviation companies especially in the United States of America or anything connected thereto.

“The Applicant holds the clear belief that the Constitution of Nigeria alongside the extant Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules, 2009 empowers him to initiate proactive steps to “protect these highly cherished Fundamental Rights of Onyema now that there is the likelihood that the Federal Government of Nigeria through any of its prosecutorial agencies” may abridge these rights.

According to him, the suit seeks to enforce the beneficiary’s fundamental human rights to ward off their impending or likely erosion by the Federal Government of Nigeria who may lend its weight to the extradition request the Government of the United States of America may present to it in alleged violation of the pronouncement of the Supreme Court.

To this end, Mr Jideobi wants the court to determine whether having regard to the provisions of Section 46 (1) & (2) of the Nigerian Constitution, the fundamental rights of the Air Peace boss to freedom of movement, protected by section 35 of the Constitution, have not been endangered and exposed to erosion by the facts and circumstances revealed in the U.S. charges.

No date has been fixed for hearing.

PoliticsStop Blackmailing DSS, Army - Group Warns Falana, Others by Despirado121(op): 6:56am On Nov 20, 2019
Concerned citizens under the aegis of Save Nigeria Movement (SNM) has expressed dismay over the recent demonstration at the headquarters of Department of State Services (DSS) following the continued detention of the convener #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore.

The group also lamented the “media harassment” of the DSS by renowned lawyer Femi Falana and other civil society activists, describing the protest as an exploitation of Nigerians with a view to blackmailing the security agency.

Spokesperson of the movement Semaaka Solomon Semakaa, who stated this at a counter rally in Abuja on Tuesday, said that the over dramatization of the matter, vilification and demonising of the service as well as the desperate appeal for public sympathy are all unfortunate tactics employed by Falana and his group of foot soldiers.

Semakaa said Falana’s action “is a sabotage of the highest level and does not portray the nobility of the legal profession as well as the true spirit of patriotism.”

Commenting further on his allegations of sabotage against security agencies Semakaa said that “a fortnight ago, the Nigerian Army in order to consolidate on its achievement especially in the North-East and South-East, came up with Operation Positive Identification to ensure that Nigerians are properly identified.

“This is a standard practice done all over the world, but to our greatest surprise, Femi Falana went to court to get an injunction against the Nigerian military.”

Semakaa also stated that investigations by the Save Nigeria Movement revealed that, “Omoloye Sowore, Col. Sambo Dasuki, and El Zakzakky have all chosen to be in DSS custody because of the high standard of facilities as opposed to the conventional correctional facilities in the country.

“Nigerians need to know that the trio has access to functional Gymnasium, telephones, choice of food amongst other; these are luxury facilities that an average law abiding Nigerian lacks.

“We therefore request that Nigerians particularly those who avail themselves as tools for blackmailing the security agencies must desist in the interest of the country.

“The Department of State Services and the Nigerian military authorities must be allowed to do their jobs without hindrance.

“This country’s constitution has no room for referendum or plebiscite; we are one indivisible entity and the DSS is responsible to detecting and forestalling any threat to Internal Security.

“We therefore, in national service, vow to assist the DSS and Army to succeed in this noble task,” Semaaka added.
