The chairman and the chief executive officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa was visited by Tayo Faniran, a former Big Brother Africa housemate, on his return to Nigeria.

Mr Faniran was recently harrased by the South African police while driving in the country.

The incident was captured live on camera by the Nigerian model which was followed by another video in which he explained how he was tortured by the police for his refusal to enter an unmarked police vehicle.

Mrs Dabiri-Erewa tweeted on Wednesday that the Nigerian model check up on her at her office.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the National Assembly to halt the plan to take over the legislative duties of the Edo State House of Assembly.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo gave the order at the resumed hearing on Wednesday, Igbere TV reports.

Edo State Government had filed the case challenging the National Assembly’s directive to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo to issue a fresh proclamation of the state’s House of Assembly in seven days.

Justice Taiwo ordered parties in the case to maintain status quo pending the determination of the case.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has said it was a shame that the state recorded 50 per cent of the new polio cases in Nigeria, saying he would deploy necessary resources to fight the virus.

AbdulRazaq said this on Tuesday during the flag-off of polio outbreak response activities.

“It is a shame that Kwara has 50 per cent of the new outbreak. We shouldn’t be dealing with fresh polio in this state now. But we will give the necessary supports to put an end to that,” he said.

The governor decried the negligence of the previous administration in supporting routine polio immunisation programme.

AbdulRazaq, who commended various global agencies for their support, urged parents and other stakeholders to key into the vaccination of under-five children to halt the spread of the deadly virus.

“I call on Kwarans to join hands with our partners to interrupt the transmission of the Poliovirus in Kwara State and Nigeria at large,” he said.

“I am appealing to all mothers, caregivers, heads of households, religious bodies, markets and schools to as a matter of necessity make all children under 5years of age available for the vaccination exercise, irrespective of their previous vaccination status as the campaign will be conducted as many times as possible.

“It is highly unacceptable and inexcusable for any Parent, Care Giver or Government to watch our future generation being paralysed from a vaccine-preventable disease like Polio.”

Incident Manager of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Usman Adamu, hailed AbdulRazaq for helping to revive the immunisation programme in Kwara after five years.

The event was attended by former military administrator of Osun State, Theophilus Bamigboye; Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Raphael Adetiba; and Secretary to the Kwara State Government, Dr Mamman Saba Jubril.

Others were representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO); Rotary International; United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF); and several other donor agencies.

Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenat, have been released by the Department of State Services (DSS) for medical treatment in India.

This came after Justice Darius Khobo of Kaduna State High Court on Monday granted the Shiites’ leader and his wife permission to leave the country for treatment abroad.

According to reports, El-Zakzaky and his wife were released last night.

The DSS had in a statement by its spokesman, Peter Afunanya, said it would comply with the directive.

“This is to inform the public that the Department of State Services (DSS) has received the order granting Ibrahim El-Zakzaky leave to travel to India for medical treatment.

“Consequently, the Service is liaising with relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance. Conformity with the order is in line with the Service’s avowed commitment to the Rule of Law inherent in a democracy,” the statement said.

The court ruled that it is granting the Shiites leader leave to travel for medical treatment not bail, adding that they would be accompanied by state and DSS officials.

The IMN in a statement on Monday said the ruling was favourable but long overdue.

However, counsel to the state government and Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Dari Bayero, said they may be appealing the ruling.

El-Zakzaky and wife are facing an eight-count charge, including culpable homicide and public disturbance in connection with the December 2015 clashes between members of the IMN and soldiers in Zaria, which left many persons dead.

Chukwueze shared a video of Khaled’s welcome on Instagram on Sunday.

The Kaduna State Police Command said the ban on protests, processions and demonstrations in the state by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) is still in force.

The Command’s Public Relation Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo said in a press statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna that the Police will deal decisively with violators of the ban.


It was reported that the statement is coming ahead of a High Court ruling on the application filed by Shiite leader, Ibrahim Elzakzaky, seeking for bail to travel to India for medical attention.

The police said there would be a massive deployment of personnel and urged the public to go about their normal businesses, but report suspicious persons promptly to avert security breach.

“Members of the public should note that the ban on all forms of processions and demonstrations in Kaduna State is still in force.

“In view of the court trial of Malam Ibrahim El-Zakzaky on Monday, August 5th, the peace-loving and law-abiding people of Kaduna State are to note that adequate security has been put in place for a hitch-free court appearance.

”Therefore, members of the public are advised to remain calm and not to be apprehensive where they observe the unusual number of security personnel in town.” he stated.

Nigerians on social media have attacked President Muhammadu Buhari over the report alleging that Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and pro-democracy campaigner, Department of State Services operatives invades and arrests him in his apartment earlier today.

Many Nigerians in their reaction accused Buhari of trying to use the DSS to intimidate Sowore so as not to carry out the planned #RevolutionNow protests slated for August 5.

Many well-meaning Nigerians are also calling for the release of the pro-democracy campaigner using #Freesowore hashtag on Twitter.

Security operatives suspected to be from the Department of State Security (DSS) have arrested a former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore, who is also the publisher of SaharaReporters, was arrested early Saturday.

The publisher posted a distress tweet around 1:25 am, saying “DSS invades Sowore’s.”

He also tweeted “Ja p” apparently indicating that his phone must have been seized while trying to raise the alarm about his arrest.

An associate confirmed the publisher was arrested at his apartment and his phone collected.

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has vowed to challenge the court order obtained by the Federal Government proscribing its activities, Igbere TV reports.

IMN spokesman, Ibrahim Musa, confirmed this on Wednesday, saying “we will be in court challenging the proscription”.

On the accusation by a rival Shiite group, Al-Thaqalayn Cultural Foundation, that IMN was a fake organisation, Musa alleged that the leader of the group, Hamza Lawal, was a government agent out to destabilise IMN.

“Hamza Lawal had failed woefully to create division within the ranks of the Islamic Movement in the past, and the government,” Musa said.

“He is not worth being dignified with a response. He has been in the corridors of power for a while now and on their payroll to distract attention, cause confusion, and are known by various names in the past – Shia traitors, commercial Shia and the rest.

“When in 2015 government massacred members of the Islamic Movement, they celebrated and rushed to form another organization called SHIMAN to be an umbrella organization to finalize the ‘burial of IMN’ with government support, so as to deceive the public into believing that Shi’ites is not the target.”

He added: “These same ‘Shia-groups’ were again the ones who earlier this year came out to endorse Buhari for another term. Thus Hamza Lawal and his cultural group are a distraction not worth our time.”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson appointed a Nigerian woman, Kemi Badenoch, into his cabinet last Saturday.

Mrs Badenoch was named the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families, an equivalent of a junior minister, Igbere TV reports.

She tweeted on Monday saying she was ‘humbled’ to have been appointed and was looking forward to making ‘a positive difference’.

A heartbroken Nigerian woman who has lost three sons in London, United Kingdom, has broken down in tears on live TV as she told of her fight for justice.

Linda Burke-Monerville could not speak on Monday on TV show, Good Morning Britain when she was asked about the trauma of losing her sons David, Joseph and Trevor, Igbere TV reports.

Stepping in, her husband John said: “We are trying very hard. It’s very difficult times for us, but we are trying. I have to hold on to what’s left of our family.”

Igbere TV reports that the couple lost the latest to an attack in Barnet last month. David, 38, was stabbed to death in a fight.

David’s brother, Trevor, had first lost his life in 1994 after being attacked by five men, before another of his siblings, Joseph, was killed in Hackney in 2013.

The family had previously sent Joseph and his twin Jonathan, the only surviving son, to boarding school in Nigeria to keep them away from crime.

The presenters asked Mrs Monerville if what new Prime Minister Boris Johnson intends to do by putting 20,000 extra police officers on the streets, would reduce violence in London.

With a shaky voice, she said: “I don’t know if that will help either. I think for that to even work the parents of these boys should do something better, instead of harbouring boys who do all these things.

“What is happening to me now. I don’t wish it on my worst enemy. What these boys are putting me through innocently.”

She implored the public to help them in their fight for justice.

Umaru Badami, father of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has died at age 82, Igbere TV reports.

The governor’s spokesman, Solomon Kumangar, told newsmen that the octogenarian died on Sunday around 2.30 p.m. after a protracted illness.

“He was on admission at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola and was discharged yesterday only to later collapse,” Mr Kumagar said.

The deceased, a retired soldier, is survived by a wife and six children, including Fintiri.

Badami has been buried according to Islamic rites after funeral prayers at the Yola Central Mosque.

Rebbeca Sharibu, mother of the abducted Dapchi secondary schoolgirl Leah Sharibu, has said that she is still hopeful that her daughter would return alive.

Grace Taku, an aid worker kidnapped in Borno State on July 18, had claimed in a video released by the insurgents on Wednesday that Leah had been killed.

According to Grace, who works with Action Against Hunger, Leah and some other people were killed because of the inability of the Federal Government to save them, Igbere TV reports.

“I am begging on behalf of all of us. I don’t want such to happen to us and it also happened again with Leah and Alice, because Nigeria could not do anything about them, they were not released they were also killed,” the woman said in the video.

Mrs Sharibu, according to report, said though she had not seen the video, she was optimistic that her daughter would return home alive.

“No matter how long it takes, my hope is still alive that my daughter will come back alive from Boko Haram. I still look forward to that day and I am confident that she will return,” she said.

She also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rescue her daughter, saying she was bothered by the recent silence over her daughter’s case.

“I also want to still appeal to the people that are holding my daughter to please have mercy on her and release her without any condition. She does not know anything. What has she done to deserve what she is going through?” she said.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commenced full burial of its member, Precious Owolabi, who was killed on Monday during a protest by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN).

Owolabi, 23, a Channels TV reporter, is being buried at the Wusasa cemetery, Zaria, Igbere TV reports.

His remains were received by his parents in Zaria on Wednesday.

The coffin was carried to the cemetery on Thursday by NYSC members who sang the corps’ anthem to bid him farewell, Igbere TV reports.

NYSC Director-General, Shuaibu Ibrahim, is represented at the funeral by a director in the corps.

Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has reinstated the former chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Kolawole Olaiya, into the civil service.

This follows a report of the State Committee on the Review of Irregular Appointments chaired by Ekiti Deputy Governor, Bisi Egbeyemi, Igbere TV reports.

The report said that Olaiya’s disengagement from the civil service by the administration of former governor, Ayo Fayose, was unlawful.

Olaiya was compulsorily retired from the civil service in February 2016 on allegation of involvement in partisan politics.

He had publicly warned Fayose in September 2015 against diverting the bailout funds received from President Muhammadu Buhari to pay arrears of workers’ salaries and retirees’ benefits.

In a letter signed on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the State Civil Service Commission by Salami A. Olusola, Governor Fayemi formally reinstated Olaiya into the civil service.

“Consequent upon the judgment of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Akure Judicial Division and recommendation of the State Committee on the Review of Irregular Appointments made into Ekiti State Public Service from 2014 to 2018 with the approval of the State Executive Council, I am directed to inform you that the Civil Service Commission has approved your reinstatement into the Civil Service of Ekiti State as a Principal Legal Officer, GL.12 with effect from 25th June, 2019.

“You are to report to the Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice for further instructions,” the letter said.

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended Aircraftman Bashir Umar for his honesty in returning the sum of €37,000 to its owner.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) had in a statement on Sunday said Mr Umar, a member of the NAF Mobile Air Defence Team deployed for airport security duties, found the parcel last Tuesday during routine patrol with some of his colleagues at the Hajj Camp Market in Kano, Igbere TV reports.

The statement said Umar called a phone number written on the parcel and returned the money to the owner identified as Alhaji Ahmad.

Buhari, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, on Tuesday, described the act as “uncommon, patriotic and exemplary”.

The president enjoined Nigerians, especially the youth, to emulate such worthy gesture.

“Honesty and integrity will always remain admirable virtues, notwithstanding challenges before any country,’’ he said.

He also applauded the leadership of the NAF for its decision to “reward the airman so as to encourage other personnel of the Service to continue to embody attitudes and behaviours that reflect NAF’s core values of Integrity, Excellence and Service Delivery.”

Nigerian army's General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Div, Maiduguri, Maj.-Gen. Bulama Biu has debunked comment of Boko Haram members becoming the country's President which was linked to him.

According to Maj.-Gen. Biu, the comment was taken out of context in a deliberate campaign of misinformation, as he only called on the insurgents to surrender, embrace peace and also get reintegrated into the society to be productive, Igbere TV reports.

Major-General Biu has appealed to terrorists and other relevant stakeholders to work for lasting peace in the country.

The General Officer Commanding, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army Maiduguri, Major General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu, has appealed to Boko Haram terrorists to surrender their arms so that peace can return to the northeast region, Igbere TV reports.

The Islamic sect has terrorised the region since its insurgency escalated in 2019, with thousands of deaths recorded in countless attacks on civilians and members of the Armed Forces.


However, while addressing journalists last weekend, Biu said the northeast region cannot experience progress if it is not peaceful.


He made an appeal to Boko Haram terrorists to repent and rejoin the society for the sake of peace, noting that they can aspire to any political position as a result, even the presidency.

He said, "Boko Haram should lay their arms unconditionally and be accepted in the community. Opportunities are out there for them, they can be rehabilitated.

"An ex Boko Haram having laid his arms and turned away from his negativity, stands to be a president of this country. He stands to aspire to any position in this country.

"Why is he wasting his time when he cannot even deliver? We've appealed to them, including their collaborators, to see reason to as fast as possible quickly drop their arms so that we can once again reoccupy our peaceful position."

Despite his appeal, Biu said the Nigerian Army will not be distracted and will prosecute the war on terror with determination so as to bring lasting peace to the country.


As a professional soldier, we'll continue to do what we know best and that is to continue to project our effort in a more than determined way," he said.


Despite the current government's insistence that Boko Haram has been 'technically defeated', the group still launches attacks from time to time.

Since Boko Haram's insurgency escalated 10 years ago, it has killed around 30,000 people and displaced millions in the northeast region, with its operations also extending to border countries like Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

Even though the powers of the Abubakar Shekau-led main faction of Boko Haram has been on the wane in the past couple of years, another faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), has grown in influence and carried out several savage attacks on military bases since last year.

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has said that governors in the South-West zone would not rest until security challenges confronting the region are addressed.

Akeredolu said this on Monday during a visit to the leader of Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, after the burial of his daughter, Olufunke Olakunri.

Mrs Olakunri, 58, was killed by an armed gang on July 12 along Benin-Ore expressway, Igbere TV reports.

Akeredolu, on behalf of other South-West governors, said they were bent on facing security challenges in the region head-on.

“It is a serious security challenge but we are prepared to face the challenge, don’t doubt it.

“Something drastic and urgent has to be done and we are determined to do it, there is no other way,” he said.

The governor added: “We want to give our words to get to the roots of the incident and get those responsible.

“We are not resting on our oars and we are prepared to meet these challenges with everything we have.”

The burial service held at Saint David Cathedral, Akure, had many dignitaries in attendance, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, and Akeredolu.
