TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:

“He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”
2 Corinthians 1:4, NLT

TODAY’S WORD:

In today’s Scripture the apostle Paul is saying, “You were comforted in the loss of your loved one; help somebody else through their loss. You’ve been healed; now go help somebody else get healed.” God didn’t heal you just so you could be well, but so you could become a healer. He favored you so you could show people favor. He gave you a new beginning so you could help others make it through their loss. You’re no longer a patient needing help; you’ve become a physician.

Every one of us has had experiences that make us a physician. If you’ve been through cancer treatment, a divorce, a loss, or a rough childhood, you are uniquely qualified to help others in that situation. You’ve been in their shoes. You know the pain, the discouragement, the battles they fight in their mind. You can help them in a way that others who’ve not experienced it can. Don’t stay a grateful patient, become a physician.

Religion / Show God’s Love To His People by Devotionals: 7:21am On Mar 23, 2020

Once, I heard a story about a man who went to Russia with good intentions to tell people about the love of Jesus Christ. During his visit, many people were starving. When he found a line of people waiting hopefully to get bread for the day, he began to walk down the line, telling them that Jesus loved them and handing each person a tract with the salvation message on it. To be sure, he was trying to help, but one woman looked into his eyes and said bitterly, “Your words are nice, but they don’t fill my empty stomach.”

Like the man in the story, I’ve learned that oftentimes people are hurting too badly to hear the good news that God loves them; they have to experience it. And one of the best ways they can experience God’s love is for us to meet their practical needs, then tell them they are loved by God.

We need to be careful of the thought that words alone are enough. Jesus certainly preached the good news, but He also went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed (see Acts 10:38). Talking is not expensive, nor does it require much effort, but real love is costly. It cost God His only Son, and allowing that same amazing love to flow through us will always cost us something. We might need to invest some time, money, effort, or possessions, but it will be worth it.

Joyce Meyer Daily Devotional 23 March 2020 Says We Can Pray
What can we do? We can care, we can stay informed, we can pray, and we can take action. We can support ministries and organizations that are helping others in need, or if God asks us to, we might choose to work in these arenas. Even if full-time work isn’t your calling, you might be able to help by taking on a project here and there, or by donating your time on a short-term mission trip. God loves all people, and He invites us to join Him in helping those who are hurting all over the world.

Prayer Starter: Father, please show me how I can help people who are hurting, and open doors for me to share Your love with someone who needs it today. Thank You for reaching out to me when I needed You, and for helping me do the same for others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Religion / Take Off Any Negative Label by Devotionals: 10:12am On Mar 19, 2020

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:

The LORD will make you the head, not the tail…
Deuteronomy 28:13, NIV

TODAY’S WORD:

People constantly put labels on us, telling us what we can and cannot become, what we do or don’t have. People will label you “not good enough, too slow, addict, average.” Many times, these labels are not in agreement with what God says about us; but if we don’t know any better, we’ll wear them like they’re the truth. If we keep them on long enough, they’ll become so ingrained in our thinking that we’ll become what people have said rather than what God has said—“you are strong, talented, valuable, more than a conqueror.”

Are there labels holding you back today? The only power a label has over you is the power you give it. If you remove it, quit thinking about it, quit acting like it’s the truth, that label will have no effect on you. If you’re going to rise to the next level, you have to put on God labels. To live better, you need to think better.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

“Father, thank You that I do not have to live according to what others have said I can and cannot become. Thank You that the negative labels they have placed on me hold no power over my destiny. I declare that You alone determine my destiny. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Religion / New Way To Live by Devotionals: 11:13am On Mar 14, 2020

When you become a Christian by receiving Jesus as your Savior, He actually comes to live inside you by His Spirit, and you can be led by His Spirit throughout your life. You no longer have to feel you must follow religious rules and regulations, thinking you can please God by doing everything “right.” The Holy Spirit will guide you into God’s plans for your life, which are better than anything you could plan for yourself. This is truly a new way of living—a way of love, peace, freedom, fulfillment, and joy. You can begin it today, and it is a journey you will be on for the rest of your life.

Anytime you try to do anything new, you have to learn how to do it. That’s also true with a new way of living. Some of what you learn may seem unusual because it is different than anything you have done before and it is the complete opposite of what the world teaches us. For example, in God’s new way of living, people who try to be first end up last, while those who put themselves last end up first (see Matt. 20:16). If someone wants one thing from us, we can give them even more (see Matt. 5:40). Instead of holding grudges against people who have hurt us, we forgive them (see Matt. 18:21–22).

Jesus’s teaching to forgive those who use, abuse, or wound us— and then to go even further and actually love and bless them (see Luke 6:27–28)—was a difficult one for me. It meant forgiving my father for sexually abusing me and forgiving my mother, who knew about it and ignored it, choosing instead to treat me as though I were the one doing something wrong. Forgiving them seemed totally unreasonable to me. It took a long time for me to be willing to do that. When I finally did, it set me free and I urge you to forgive anyone that you have anything against.

Learning to forgive is only one of many lessons God has taught me about His way of living, which is why I say it is a lifetime journey. I am still learning. I want you to know that every path the Holy Spirit has led me to take on this new way has always brought me to a better place than I was before. God will never ask us to do anything difficult unless it will lead us to a better life.

Because the new way is not always easy, you may be tempted at times to fall back into your old ways. But if you will resist that temptation and ask God to help you persist in the new way of living, it will make your life better and ultimately easier than you ever thought possible.

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for sending Jesus to heal me and set me free. Please lead me and strengthen me to grow in Your new way of living today. In Jesus’s Name, amen.

Religion / The Happiest People On Earth by Devotionals: 7:33am On Mar 11, 2020

I think many people see Christianity as a stern, severe and joyless lifestyle, because a lot of people who call themselves Christians have sour attitudes and sad faces. They can be critical of others and quick to judge, which is not consistent with God’s love (see 1 Corinthians 13:7). Those of us who love and serve God should be the happiest people on Earth. We should be able to enjoy everything we do, because we know He’s here with us, no matter what. God sent Jesus because He wanted us to enjoy life—our joy makes Him happy!

Happiness is an emotion that fosters well-being, and it is contagious. One of the best and simplest ways to show Jesus to others is to smile and enjoy your life. Since everyone wants to be happy, if they see truly happy Christians, they’ll be open to learning about and receiving Jesus for themselves.

Prayer Starter: Lord, please help me keep my focus on positive things so I can begin to enjoy every moment of my life. Thank You for opening doors for me to show You to those around me. In Jesus’s Name, amen.

Religion / You’re All Set Up by Devotionals: 9:18am On Mar 10, 2020

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

“He will take you upstairs to a large room that is already set up. That is where you should prepare our meal.”
Luke 22:12, NLT

TODAY'S WORD:

In Luke 22, Jesus told Peter and John to go into Jerusalem and make arrangements for what is now known as the Last Supper. He gave them the exact details—the right person to meet, the right time, the right house—and everything fell precisely into place. They didn’t have to persuade the owner of the house to help. No, he was expecting them. The room was “already set up.”

When God laid out the plan for your life, He set up everything you need to fulfill your destiny—every good break, every person, every solution. Before you had that problem you think will never turn around, He had already set up the answer. You don’t have to try to manipulate people or convince someone to be good to you. The desires that God put in your heart may seem far out, but if you’ll stay in faith and keep honoring God, you’re going to come into what God has already set up.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

“Father, thank You for the blessings You’ve already set up. Thank You for the favor, the promotion, the healing, and the good breaks that You’ve already ordained to come across my path. I believe that You are directing my steps and orchestrating everything around me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Religion / Praise The Lord Anyhow by Devotionals: 2:37pm On Mar 09, 2020

I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.
Psalm 18:3

Recommended Reading: Psalm 18:1-3

Barry Zito was one of baseball’s brightest stars, winning the Cy Young Award as the best pitcher in the American League in 2002. But his career suffered downturns, and after fifteen seasons in the Major League, he found himself at a very low point in life. The Giants had awarded him the largest contract in baseball history at the time, but fans thought it was a wasted investment, and in 2010 he was left off the Giants’ playoff roster. He watched as a spectator while his teammates won the World Series without him. Finally, his girlfriend told him to lock up all the self-help books he was reading and to open the Bible she gave him. Out of that experience he came to faith in Christ.

Life is hard, but sometimes the hardest places are turning points that lead us to faith in Christ or into a deeper walk with Him. God uses our difficult circumstances to bring Him glory.

Learn to praise Him during times of difficulty; to turn problems into prayers; and to turn hardships into hallelujahs. When life throws you a curveball, praise the Lord anyhow.

God has a purpose for trials and testings.

Religion / Satan’s Strongholds by Devotionals: 10:22am On Mar 06, 2020

A stronghold is an area where we’re stuck in bondage—any part of our lives in which Satan imprisons us. He does this by causing us to think a certain way—a way based on lies we’ve been told. As long as we believe the lies, we will stay imprisoned by those strongholds. To enjoy freedom, we have to learn to use God’s mighty weapons.

In my book Battlefield of the Mind, I told a story about Mary, who had been mistreated and brainwashed by her father so much that by the time she was a teen, she didn’t trust men. It’s no wonder that she and her husband faced constant conflict in their marriage. For years, the enemy had been lying to her, and she believed the lies.

Mary isn’t one isolated case. I also know a guy named Daniel, who’s very intelligent. In fact, his family used to tell him he was the smartest man in town. God had given him a strong mind, but Satan used that fact to imprison him. Until he met Jesus, Daniel believed he was smarter than and superior to everyone else. Because of his pride, it was easy for him to be deceived and think more highly of himself than he should. He became critical and judgmental of others who he felt weren’t as brilliant as he believed he was.

Patricia’s story was somewhat like Mary’s, except that her father constantly and specifically told her that she was no good, she was worthless and should marry the first man who would have her. That’s exactly what she did, and she lived a miserable life. She felt she was never good enough for anyone.

Satan Was The JailKeeper

Mary, Daniel, and Patricia had been trapped in different prisons, but Satan was the jailkeeper for each of them. All three lived miserable lives until they learned what Paul meant by “the weapons of our warfare.” The Word of God is the weapon that set them free. That weapon became effective through preaching, teaching, books, audio messages, seminars, Bible study groups, and their own private studies. They also learned to use other spiritual weapons: praise, worship and prayer. Learned that when we genuinely praise God from our hearts, we defeat the enemy faster than any other battle plan.

They didn’t overcome every problem the first day—it was a slow process, but it was worth the wait. Patricia later said, “It took a lot of years for me to become imprisoned by the enemy’s lies, so why not give God plenty of time to work out His plan to set me free?” Our victory is not a one-time event—it’s a process.

“The more I realized how badly Satan played with my mind,” Daniel said, “the more I could stand against him. The truth of God’s Word made me free.”

Praise and prayer are great weapons that we can use to overcome the power of the evil one. Praise helps us keep our minds on God, His power, and the good things that are happening in our lives. It is proof that we believe He can and will help us.

Joyce Meyer Devotional 6 March 2020 On Genuine Prayer

Genuine prayer also reflects our relationship with God and shows that we depend on Him. We’re His children, and He’s our Father. When we pray, we open the door for God’s help. When we ask Him to free our minds and give us victory over Satan’s strongholds, He answers those prayers. In fact, He’s more eager to answer our prayers for help than we are to ask. When we pray in faith, tremendous power is made available to us (see James 5:16).

As we truly understand that we are God’s children, we’ll gain confidence to use the weapons He’s given us. The weapons are there; we just need instruction on how to use them and encouragement not to give up. We can win because God has provided all the spiritual weapons we need, and because Jesus has promised to always be with us (see Matthew 28:20). With His power on our side, we can’t lose!

Prayer Starter: Father, help me understand that this battle is spiritual, and teach me how to use the weapons You’ve given me to win against every attack of the enemy. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Religion / The Priority Of Character by Devotionals: 10:35am On Mar 05, 2020

This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. A bishop then must be blameless.
1 Timothy 3:1-2

Recommended Reading: Daniel 6:4-5

Most positions of civic leadership have some qualifications that must be met: age, residency, citizenship, and the like. But there are other qualifications that are harder to define—but can be summed up in the word character. Paul wrote that church leaders must be “blameless,” which doesn’t mean perfect. But it does mean free from character blemishes that would hinder the important work they seek to do.

Paul said that desiring to lead is a good thing. Even more noteworthy is when one’s character is so outstanding that reason demands that the person be called to lead. That’s what happened to Daniel in Persia. His character was so pure that his fellow leaders were jealous and sought to find some cause for his disqualification. But none could be found! “They could find no charge or fault . . . nor was there any error or fault found in him” (Daniel 6:4).

May our character be blemish free so that others are able to see the life of God in us and give Him the praise (Matthew 5:16).

Everything in life is a test of character.
John Blanchard
