One of the leading financial institutions in Nigeria Fidelity Bank, is about witnessing a major succession battle with the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe set to complete her tenure in December.

In the face of the tenure completion are the moves by High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, who is said to have emerged as the largest single shareholder in Fidelity Bank to take decisive control of the financial institution.

Moves by Tompolo are said to have caused an upset for Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, the foundation owner of the bank.

NPO Reports learnt from inside sources that Tompolo had made the smart business move the capital raising activity of the bank earlier in the year to buy majority states in the bank and thereby overtook Mr. Obi, who was once the chairman of the bank.

NPO Reports that Mr. Obi who is the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has been busy with his presidential ambition crisscrossing the country.

Onyeali-Ikpe, assumed leadership of Fidelity Bank on January 1, 2021.

Her contract was however extended to 2026 following a decision by the board in February 2024.

At the bank’s 38th Annual General Meeting on October 9, 2026, Chairman Amaka Onwughalu addressed the leadership transition, while Henry Obih, who oversees the board’s governance and nomination process, confirmed that the search for a successor had advanced beyond its internal phase into regulatory consideration by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Sources withing the banking sector said the CBN might back the Tompolo-led succession arrangement as the new largest shareholder in Fidelity Bank.

A CBN source also told the NPO Reports that, the case would be resolved just the way the leadership and ownership tussle between Femi Otedola and Oba Otudeko over the First Bank PLC saga was resolved.

According to the source in the banking supervision department of the apex bank, the FBN issue was resolved in favour of Femi Otedola, who emerged as the single largest shareholder of the bank.

As a matter of fact, Chief Government Tompolo will no doubt have a say in who succeeds Onyeali-Ikpe as the MD by December 31, when her term lapses.”

There are strong indications that vital interests within the bank are awaiting what is being seen as mother of all battles for take over of the bank by Tompolo who is also the founder and chairman of Tantita Security Limited, company carrying out security surveillance of Nigeria’s oil installations in the Niger Delta region.

That's the reality, what is allocated to NNPC refineries ends up in Swiss oil traders portfolio. No NNPC refineries can utilise 1 cup of crude for now

95% to dangote and 5% to other refiners, going by scale. More should be done to encourage more diversified local refineries cut accross different owners and locations. The concentration risk is of concern

For your *₦4M* and because you said *safety is first*, here's how I see those 4 options:

*1. Stanbic Fixed Deposit*
- *Safest of the 4.* It's a Tier-1 bank, regulated by CBN, your money is insured by NDIC.
- Rate is *lower* — around 7.00% to 11.00% per year depending on tenor now. So ₦4M won't double fast, but your capital is very secure.
- Good if your main fear is "I don't want story."

*2. OPay Fixed / OPay Safebox*
- They pay *much higher* — sometimes 15.00% to 18.00%, which is why people like them.
- OPay is a licensed Mobile Money operator, but *it is NOT a bank*. Your deposit is *NOT NDIC insured* like a bank. If anything goes wrong, recovery is harder.
- I don't advise putting your *full ₦4M* there if safety is your #1 goal. You can use it for small daily money, not core savings.

*3. Moniepoint*
- This one is now a *Microfinance Bank*, so it *is licensed by CBN and NDIC insured* (up to ₦5M per depositor, same rule as other MFBs).
- Safer than OPay, and rates on their fixed deposits, are better than Stanbic — around 12.00% to 15.00%.
- Solid middle ground for safety + better returns.

*4. PiggyVest*
- Not a bank, it's a *savings platform*. But they are well-structured — they keep money with custodians like Providus Bank, and they have compliance record.
- Their Safelock can give you *up to 20.00%+* if you lock long. Safety is *good for a fintech*, but technically not NDIC insured directly, in your name.
- Good for discipline, not for your entire emergency fund.

*If I were thinking like you — safety + maximizing ₦4M:*

Don't put all eggs in one basket.

Example of what many safety-conscious people like me will do:
- *₦2.5M in Stanbic Fixed* — your untouchable core.
- *₦1M in Moniepoint Fixed* — higher interest but still insured.
- *₦500k in PiggyVest Safelock* — to test higher return.

Avoid locking the full ₦4M in OPay, if safety worries you.

Enough said.

This isn't a good advice on the surface. It will end in regret for the typical young investor. This is what an old man in his 60s will need. Not a young person. Safety does not mean you lock your money where inflation makes nonsense of it. What you would have done is ask more questions about his overall plans and timeline. A balanced mutual fund with a mix of equities, money market assets, fixed income assets, commercial papers, etc will far beat this advice irrespective of market outcomes.

I still prefer going with equity funds over balanced funds for the longer term as equity funds tend to perform better in the bullish market. CardinalStone equity fund has been doing quite well and the CSOF has been holding up with high returns for several years. I'm not into any equity investment in Nigeria as I prefer individual stocks or foreign ETFs. As you mentioned earlier, constant DCA always helps to average down during the bear market.

I agree with you. Cardinal stone equity fund is on a sound historical performance. They deliver constant returns. I too will be signing up with them shortly. But with constant DCA especially when equities deap. The ngx has strong upside potentials for at least another one year or two.

Very much often.
Take a deep look at the chart below. Recently for 5 years until late 2023, our top ngx 50 stocks were in the deep red. Only few rare professionals who regularly do additions+DCA) and know how and when to do dividends hunting, and also compounding were able to beat the game. And they do it with a mix of money market instruments like bonds, T-Bills, commercial papers, loans, etc
Retail traders like you and I can't even last long to even survive such bearish years.
Equity mutual funds are aggressive and not profitable in ten years intervals. Balanced funds are way better due to the components.

I tried the Quantum Zenith Balanced Fund, which was a total waste of time and complete nonsense, though I can't speak for the other fund managers.

Typically most balanced funds are slow and steady. And Quantum zenith is up about 34% YTD, that isn't bad at all. Only when compared with a typical equity fund which are mostly above +50% YTD that makes it unpleasant .
However the reality is that not every year will be like this year or close bullish, when down markets come, which can last far more than imagined, balanced funds are best performing, due to the components. I am in zedcrest, but I doubt if it's not a one hit wonder. Funds with over 5 years historically performance tell the true picture.

Going though the thread, It seems balanced funds are highly underrated. Beyond the volatility and aggressive returns from equity funds, balanced funds give you more peace of mind yet ability to compound and double you investments with few years. Especially if you are doing monthly/quarterly additions.

What are the indices used? What do they mean by research environment?

1. Daily Routine: ADHD brain loves structure. Same wake time, use wall timetable with pictures. Break homework into 15-min chunks. Example: "Maths 15 mins, play 5 mins" not "do all homework now."

2. Sleep: Very important. No phone 1hr before bed, no energy drinks. Many children stay up with TV till 11pm — this worsens hyperactivity.

3. Exercise: Football, dancing, walking to school — 30 mins daily helps burn extra energy and improves focus. Better than beating.

4. Healthy Food: Regular meals, not skipping. Less sugary drinks, biscuits, sweets. More beans, eggs, fish, fruits, water.

5. School Support: Talk to teacher. Let child sit in front near teacher, give extra time for tests, use praise not shouting. ADHD is not spiritual attack or laziness.

6. Positive Discipline: No harsh beating — it increases anxiety. Use praise, star chart, clear rules. Limit screen to 1hr for kids.

Extra Help:
Visit PHC, or Psychiatrist/Psychologist at FMC or Neuropsychiatric Hospital Aro. ADHD can be treated with therapy, parent training, and in some cases medicine — consult professional.

I read about and saw a vidoe on it a long time ago. It is not scientific that was why I wrote that it is not proven. But my observation around me shows that there is a link between it and lack of (a) parental love. It becomes a survival behavioural pattern.

Not correct, it's chemical imbalances , nothing about parental interaction, lack of it may escalate the divergence.

You made some point but It's not a mental illness. It's just being wired differently. Some well known billionaires and successful people overcame ADHD or still live with it.
People with living it know it with out any professional diagnosis, especially with this age of interconnectivity.

However, it's a hopeless condition, you live with it like that. Religion, books, medication or therapist cannot change it. 10 diagnosed ADHD persons can have similarities but never the same layout of symptoms. It's a complex condition. You live with it.

For capital growth, split the money 40:20:40;
40% for mmf, 20% for fixed income and 40% for equity.
That way, you have full control over your assets. For emergency fund, 40% in mmf got you covered. 20% in fixed income balances your portfolio and you don't need to be scared of whatever happens in equity (up and down movement of equity fund). 40% in equity grow your funds and makes you achieve your set target easily.
Putting these three together is what those assets managers call balanced fund. So you can create a balanced portfolio for yourself depending on your risk tolerance. You don't have to do 40:20:40. You can also do 50:30:20. Everything boils down to you and what you want.
