sleekch1c: Some of the responses on this thread shows the average Nigerian IQ.....even jobless, anti-social and very depressed individuals are telling a female comedian who is doing well for herself that she is fat. Are you ppl dat daft and bereft of ideas? What is your business in how the lady looks like? She is making her money and all u sad and pathetic individuals are here typing crap with ur cheap phones and antique laptop computers. Pity!
Don't be silly. Get of your high horse abeg. Some of the comments are pathetic but I'm sure the picture was put there to generate comments. She HAS a double chin and has put on weight. What does antique laptops and cheap phones have to do with anything? Afterall she is a celebrity.

Blackteeth: I think the best way to solve this kidnapping wahala is to seriously declare NO MORE PAYMENT OF RANSOMS.
After one or two kidnappings and no ransoms paid, it would be a thing of the past.
Hopefully two of your close relatives will be the first people kidnapped so that your indifference will help a whole lot of people and stop kidnapping as you say.

PoliticsParading Of Suspects By The Police: Right Or Wrong by dhanmccoy(op): 8:51am On Nov 01, 2012
What is your take on this issue? Personally, I find it disturbing. Suspects are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. At least that is how it is seen in sane countries. Parading suspects is inhumane and a violation of their rights.
Below is an article I read on The Lawyers Chronicle.
It is standard practice everywhere in the world that when people commit crimes, they are arrested, charged and prosecuted. People are also wanted by the police for various crimes committed either in their own jurisdictions or even on an international level. No matter how heinous the crime that is committed, their prosecution follows basic rules and principles that are in place to protect the suspect’s fundamental human rights. These principles go a long way in ensuring that a suspected criminal is treated with respect and dignity and that after his conviction or acquittal, the person may be able to pick up the pieces of his life. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides in Article 10 that; Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal in the determination of his rights and obligations and of any criminal charge against him.

It also states in Article 11 that;

Everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defense.

These rights are there to ensure that all people are treated with dignity and fairly no matter what crime has been committed by them. These rights have been incorporated into the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in section 36(5) where it states that;

Every person who is charged with a criminal offence shall be presumed innocent until he is proven guilty.

It is the duty of the prosecution who alleges that the accused person committed the offence to prove it beyond reasonable doubt. But is that the case in Nigeria today? Do the police in the prosecution of cases against citizens follow the provisions of the law as laid out in section 36(5) or do they in their zeal to show the people that they are indeed hard at work create a situation where human rights are totally disregarded?

The news is on and one of the top stories on the hour is that the police in the discharge of their duties have arrested 10 suspected armed robbers. As the story progresses, the police is shown parading the suspects to members of the press. The faces of the suspects are clearly displayed and distinctly broadcast for the whole nation to see. This story is carried on all the major television networks and is even carried in the newspapers with the names, ages and occupations of the suspects also disclosed. Does this conform with the provisions of the Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

The police may argue that these parades are done for easy identification of suspects and so that the public will also be aware of criminals and take adequate precaution. If these displays are done for identification purposes, they do not even follow laid down procedure. The Nigerian Evidence Act does not expressly provide for the method of an identification parade. However, following common law principles, it can be defined as a process whereby a suspected person is placed amongst other people of similar physical appearance, height, colour, age, and social status to ascertain whether or not witnesses to the offence are capable of recognizing him. It is essential in the following situations:

Where the victim was confronted by the offender for a very short time.
Where the victim due to time and circumstances might not have had the full opportunity of observing the features of the accused person.
Where the accused is not known to the victim before the commission of the offence.
In carrying out an identification parade, the following conditions must be observed:

The witness should not be allowed to see the suspect before he is placed in the parade.
Witnesses must not be shown photographs of the suspect nor should be assisted by any form of description of the suspect.
The clothes worn by the suspect must not be worn during the identification parade.
Failure to follow strictly the conditions listed above for identification of a suspect does not render the evidence inadmissible but goes to the weight to be attached to such identification. Any conviction based on such identification may be quashed on appeal. After an observation of the above common law principle, there is no obvious correlation between the so called parades in the media and an ideal identification parade. These parades seem to be mere publicity stunts by the Nigerian Police to try and show the public that they are working. Parading suspected criminals in the media is already convicting the person in the court of public opinion. Even if such a person is later discharged and acquitted by the court of law, the suspect’s reputation has already been destroyed. The suspect will always be known for the crime for which he was paraded.

It is said, give a dog a bad name and hang him. Parading suspected criminals only creates prejudices and does not in anyway enhance public safety or the reputation of the police force. There is no way you can ensure that a person has a free and fair trial if you have already given the public a bad impression about the person. Thank God that we do not practice the jury system in Nigeria! Can you imagine how difficult it would be to be judged by a jury of your peers when they have all seen your arrest and humiliation in the hands of the police? Even the system we have now is compromised by this display. After all, judges are humans too and they can just as easily form opinions to the detriment of the ordinary citizen. Suspected criminals have rights too and they must be treated with some level of dignity and respect.
CrimeRe: Police Arrest Mastermind Of UNIPORT Killings (Coxson Lerebori Lucky) by dhanmccoy: 7:24pm On Oct 16, 2012
If Lucky truely felt there was a threat to his life, he had every right to raise an alarm. What we don't get is, after the danger was averted, why didn't he come out and say he actually owed them money? That's plain reason.
CrimeRe: Police Arrest Mastermind Of UNIPORT Killings (Coxson Lerebori Lucky) by dhanmccoy: 7:15pm On Oct 16, 2012
proO1: The tyranny of the majority is in full swing, and it is disgraceful to say the least. It's now so bad that the obtuse mods had to bar my regular handle from commenting on this topic, because they assumed that my opinion wouldn't sheepishly align with that of the majority!

JP Phillips made very valid postulations on this matter, and I'm not surprised that most posters are baying for his blood - just like the Aluu mob they hypocritically loathe - simply because he dares to hold a different view.

The fact remains that the police are playing to the gallery in this matter, as I suspected they would. The overly sentimental and illogical public outcry from the outset had already compromised the investigations and guranteed that there could only be ONE outcome - an outcome that appeals to the biased sensibilities of the public.

Most people already blindly and stubbornly presumed these 'fine boys' were innocent from the beginning, without bothering to ask/care about anything else. The current IGP is a man who prides himself as a media sweetheart; a man who is a master in the art of ingratiating himself with the public, and swimming with the tide of public opinion. As such, it would tarnish his public image if he 'allows' the investigation reveal anything that even remotely negates what the tyrannical majority already believe. If the IGP finds out that these boys were cultists, and that they in fact went with a gun to extort/threaten a fellow student, he would BURY that evidence simply because that is not what the public wants to hear. He is condemned to feed the public with only what they prefer to hear.

Now, how on earth is the said Coxson Lerebori a "mastermind" of anything? Have the police proved that he PLANNED the boys' murder by luring them to his house at midnight and colluding with the local mob to kill all four of them? If he simply raised the JUSTIFIED alarm that some cultists were subjecting him to violence in his own house, and then local vigilantes intervened to rescue him from his tormentors, how on earth does that make him a mastermind of anything? The world is truly a terrible place, considering how biased and deliberately blind-to-reason most people can be!
That they were guilty or innocent is TOTALLY IRRELEVANT. Whether you admit it or not by saying it is, you are justifying the murders.
I find you calling 'the majority' 'blind-to-reason' ironic.
CrimeRe: Police Arrest Mastermind Of UNIPORT Killings (Coxson Lerebori Lucky) by dhanmccoy: 6:55pm On Oct 16, 2012
rman: Can you be bold enough to walk into AIG's office to explain what five boys are doing at 5am in another mans house?
What proof do you have that they are there to collect a debt? What proof do you also have that a gun was not carried?
How did a simple debt collection process degenerate into a serious mess that lead to brutal murder of four?
Did they run when the alarm was raised?
Did the debtor want them dead before? He could have just said ''these are my friends'' and everything will be fine?
How did the situation become chaotic? If they were calm and right in the debtors house when the vigilante came, the outcome maybe different.

What most of us also did not think of is the fact that they were given an opportunity to explain there mission to the village head. Their story must be so unconvincing for the village head to sanction their death ( if it is true he actually did). All the time they were being moved around, how come not a single soul recognised or put a call through to people that could help their case?

There are many loopholes in the story told to favor the guys.

THE ONLY SET OF PEOPLE THAT DESERVE PROSECUTION ARE THE GUYS DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN KILLING THE BOYS. EVERYOTHER PERSON CAN ACTUALY PROVE THEIR CASE AND WALK FREE, INCLUDING THE VILLAGE HEAD
The Chief can walk free after ordering (by the powers legally vested on him right?) four kids to be put to death? Are you deluded or just having a laugh?

To be frank there are a lot of cartoons with very violent and gory scenes. And kids love them. I remember how I loved watching Samurai X, Samurai Jack and the like. I didn't turn out violent. Not discounting the fact that they do have effects tho, just saying they are a bit overrated.
Dora the Explorer? Bah, you are not serious.

what does he stand to gain if he sends an earthquake to nigerians that are gong through hell already

besides nigeria is not more sinful than countries like Ghana, camaroun and other french speaking african countries, why are we his target?

i am not happy with this if it is truely from God, it does not in any way make me view him from a loving angle.

what will he acheive with earthquake? will it make more people repent?

doesnt he already know that nigerians are sinful people? he created us, its no surprise to him.

he shuld just let us b abeg.

let him check around, i assure him that we love and worship him more than many countries.

besides, how does he expect us to believe in ur dream? does he really think nigerians are going to repent? perhaps he already has it in mind a long time ago

Are you for real? It is not for every ear? I thought the message was for Nigerians as a whole. How can a message of repentance be for the 'saints' and not the sinners?
Christianity EtcRe: Visions Of EARTHQUAKE Coming To Nigeria. by dhanmccoy: 2:55pm On Oct 13, 2012
Ok, so we are supposed to repent individually and as a Nation and stay away from sin indefinitely? Will this stOp the earthquake or just ensure that those who die in it go to heaven?
Are you sure you didn't just take too much weed? Forgive me.
I'm a Christian but we have to be frank; Nigeria is not Nineveh. Besides, apart from NL and your facebook page, how have you tried to get the message in your visions across to Nigerians? Only a tiny percentage are on those media.
