TWoods:
You’re being deliberately dishonest, as usual. The question the VO put to you wasn’t whether you were pregnant at that moment, but whether you ever intend to use that visa to birth at any point within the two year validity. As someone else noted, you could have said “sure, if I get pregnant at some point I’d like to know if I can still use this visa”. You didn’t, because you know he would have denied your visa... so you deliberately lied by omission and now come here to get validation for your plan.

And what’s with the vacuous boasting about spending money at a 4-star hotel? The average American can do that too.
She didn’t ask if I would use it for pregnancy, she said for medicals, but then you have a point, I wasn’t even thinking along that line because I am not pregnant at the moment and don’t know when I’ll be cos I am not even trying. All this is just an afterthought. I was with my husband and we just blurted the No, cos it’s only for 3 weeks.

The VO already ask you this same question and you said "NO AT LEAST NOT THIS VISIT" so I guess you already have an answer to your question.
He was aware of your friend baby so he asked if you had plans of getting another if issued. English language is complicated if you ask me Sha but this is just what I can say from all these oo
Thanks jere

You know for a fact, that based on the new rules, if you had answered “yes” to the childbirth question you would have been promptly denied a visa. That should answer your “question”.
I’m not pregnant, so I wouldn’t answer yes because how would I justify the yes. 2ndly, She didn’t ask for my receipts or anything which they did for the rest for some reason, maybe my position or my husband’s or they’ve seen the records of hotels we stayed at, so, she probably assumed we could afford it and above all, God’s grace. Hopefully, my PR would have come through by then so it is a futuristic question. Mr Twoods, before you come and start that your ITK on my thread, I am not pregnant yet and there’s no point stirring an intent when I don’t even know when it’s going to stick. For now, I’m just going to cool off in one of the best 4-star hotels in your country.

This is a question you could have asked the VO during the interview. undecided
Well, there was no time at all, and trust me, you don’t want to overstretch your luck after you’ve been given yellow light out of the 10 people you entered together

Hi fam, long time no see. So, I got my visa renewed this morning and here is the transcript:

V.O: Good morning, passports pls

DH and I passed the passport and greeted her

V.O: when was the last time you went to the US and for how long?

Me: June 2019, 12 days

DH: Nov 2018, 3 weeks

V.O: Have you both travelled together before?

Both: No, this will be our first

V.O: what do you do ma’am?

Me: I’m a ****** and I work with ***** company

DH: I work for *******

V.O: your position?

D.H: ***** for Africa and middleeast

V.O: How long are you staying for?

D.H: 3-4 weeks

Me: 2 weeks

V.O: How many children do you have?

Both: one

V.O: I see you had your baby in the U.S, Do you intend to use this visa for medical?

Both: No, at least not on this visit

V.O: please pay the reciprocity fee and come back for passport submission

No receipts or anything was asked. After carrying plenty past receipts, I’m grateful to God. However, I have a question, we are not yet pregnant but as it is, after having 3 miscarriages back to back, I already classify as high risk.
So, in the nearest future, If we get a sticky bean, can this visa be used for childbirth?

Thanks a lot. *sighs*
Bcpump:
Hello. You can use this. my VO today told me it ie okay as long as it is not a government insurance or one for residents. that an international insurance can fly
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Dhollargurl(f): 10:58pm On Apr 07, 2019
Thanks a lot for this. I already have doctor and hospital that accepts, using Gwinnett this time around. As per getting pay slip showing deductions, we should be able to get that from the HR and for the documents supporting he signed with them, we both have our insurance cards from Cigna and also from Hubby’s company to that effect. Thanks a lot, *fingers crossed*
Mamaroon:
I suspect the average educated VO will understand the concept of international medical insurance coverage.

I would advise you to get a hospital, doctor, etc that will accept hubby's insurance....Cigna you said.....and let the acceptance be written e.g. email. Also get docs that show the insurance premium deductions from his pay slip...and maybe a document that shows he signed up with this insurance scheme in the first place (there is usually an application form) and that you are his dependent and that maternity care and delivery are covered. Maybe get the insurance provider to write a letter confirming this. All going well I don't think you have an issue and worst case they'll say admin processing and reconfirm that all is in order.

Your scenario is actually an ideal one in my view and beats self pay wahala.

Good luck.

Sis, I get your question very well. I do know about insurance company also. Am just telling you to avoid mentioning insurance in front of the VO and make sure nothing shows insurance on your itemized bill later. If i tell you my personal experience you go shock ooo. Please no just decide to use insurance at all.

To your question, just go as a self-pay patient. Forget about the insurance company already deducted it. If you find hospitals that charges higher, and go as a self pay patient, pay all your bills from your pocket. Later you and insurance can settle what you paid from your pocket.

Good luck sis

Thanks but I don’t think you get my question. The insurance my husband’s company use is a global one, (so just like Axa Mansard here in Naija, but the difference is, theirs is a global insurance, not limited to Naija, it is for anywhere in the world). Whether, we decide to use it or not, they deduct it from his salary annually. I am NOT going to US to apply for insurance cos I already have the insurance that covers things like childbirth and even up to dental.

My question now is this, should I go as a self-pay patient, or let them know our insurance covers it? I’m asking because even if I say I’m going as a self paying patient, (which I did for the first trip), I will still end up using the insurance because the insurance company already deducted it. But, wouldn’t it look like I lied?

Will them knowing I’m going with my insurance card boost my chances because no need to worry about me getting discount or I should look for a hospital that charges higher and go as a self paying patient, then our insurance settles later.

The only problem is that most hospitals still quote about same price for their self paying patients. I’m so confused.

walefnf:
Insurance company isn't a free service, you still need to pay them monthly, quarterly or annually, but you can just put all this money together and pay all your bills for medical in the US not involved any insurance at all. I believe if they start hearing insurance insurance from everyone, another loophole for refusal.

Answer to your question. Please look for hospitals and go as a self patient. No tell VO about insurance you have. Let this insurance thing between you and Cigna only.

Good luck sis

Hello fam, please I still need more answers

So, I have a couple of questions please...

1) Has any Atlanta mama gone to renew visa and granted of late? I had my baby in Atlanta in 2017, uninsured and self paid.... Total bill was a little bit over 10k but I only have receipts for 9875 here because I already got back to Naija before I got the remaining ones which were about 500 dollars and I just paid over the phone. Asides those, ive got all my receipts and itemized bill showing huge discount. Btw, I used Piedmont Atlanta hospital.

2) Now, we use Cigna Global Insurance and we can get any medical treatment anywhere in the world provided the hospital and the doctor accept the insurance. I intend using Piedmont again and fortunately, they accept this insurance, so, I’ll be going as an insured patient, (i.e no discount palaver this time around).

3) My question is this; what are my chances? I paid all my bills the first time, but still d huge discount which I didn’t know about till I got the itemized bill. Now, with our new insurance, do I stand a better of getting my Visa or I should just look for a very expensive hospital and go as a self-paying patient and present my bills later to my Cigna for a refund.

I need your help because I will be applying very soon. Thanks.[/quote]

Thanks a lot. Was she given though?
Lordcrixus:
I think you are good to go, I can only answer your first query.
My wife also had our baby in Atlanta in December 2016 and I think same hospital, it used to be clearview but I think they changed to piedmont now. We paid almost 10k also, but the itemized bill shows almost 70% discount as to the 50% discount on the pre birth agreement. I will advise you go with all the receipts and then also call the providers you paid to on the phone to send the receipts to you by email or to the US address on your account, and then your host can scan and email to you. Though the itemized bill wasn’t request for during her 221g interview, I think you should also go with the pre birth agreement you signed on your first visit to the hospital.
Goodluck
