BREAKING NEWS!!! Massive Bomb Blast Hits Muna Garage

Bomb blast has occurred at Muna garage, a satellite community in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Residents of the community woke up on Wednesday morning to a loud bang which turned out to be an Improvised Explosive Device, (IED) leaving many injured.

Rescue officials are still evacuating bodies of the injured and the casualty figure is yet to be ascertained.

The incidence occurred few meters to an unofficial Internally Displaced People’s camp, housing 16, 000 people.

Security operatives have cordoned off the area, while other residents are going on with their normal activities.

The Management of the NYSC hereby refutes the content of a mischievous information circulating in the social media to the effect that corps members’ allowance has been slashed by 25%.

In the first instance, the document quoted a “Brigadier General Bamidele Oluwami” the purported NYSC Director General as the source of its information.

The scheme vehemently dissociate itself from this wicked falsehood meant to create confusion in the polity. The Director General of the NYSC is Brigadier General SZ Kazaure and he never made any comment as claimed by the brains behind the damaging publication.

Management hereby categorically state that corps members allowance remains N19800 and not reduced to N14800 as wickedly portrayed by the social media release. For the avoidance of doubts, we unequivocally restate our unalloyed commitment to the welfare of all corps members at all times.

Corps members and the public should therefore ignore this misleading information and go about their duties lawfully without fear.

Chris Brown and Wizkid yesterday (8th October) performed in Kenya at the Mombasa Rocks Music Festival held at Mombasa Golf Club, Mama Ngina Drive, Mombasa.

They both put up a great performance that excited the fans at the show. The performances at the event was worthy the wait!

However, the very high tickets costs; KEX 10,000( USD 100) for ordinary tickets and KEX 20,000 (USD 200) for VIP tickets meant that most fans that would probably attend this event never attended as they couldn’t afford the tickets.

While the organizers expected between 12,000 and 15,000 fans at the show, our Mombasa reporter at the concert noted they got less than 3000 fans altogether. Fans interviews blamed the poor and underwhelming turn up on the very high ticket costs.

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reacted positively to the current hardship in the land by easing the ban on the importation of Rice.

The present economic recession is most profound in the soaring price of the staple, spawning the hashtag #MinimumWageCan’tBuyABagOfRice as Nigerians grapple with a price increase of over 100 per cent following a complete ban on importation.

However, with an increased rate of smuggling of the product, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), decided to intervene by ordering the immediate removal of rice from the import restriction list and the re-introduction of import duty payment at land borders.

This was made known by the Public Relations Officer of customs, Mr Wale Adeniyi, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja during the week.

He however maintained that all rice imports through land borders would attract the prevailing import duty of 10 per cent with 60 per cent levy, while rice millers (preferential levy) with valid quota allocation would also attract duty rate of 10 per cent with 20 per cent levy on rice importation.

“Over the years importation has been restricted to the seaports because border authorities have found it difficult to effectively monitor and control importation of rice.

“When the decision to ban it (rice) was taken it was not an effective measure because smuggling of the product thrives with people using different means of conveyance including small trucks, bicycles and even animals – putting them on donkeys and some actually carry it on their heads.

“These new measures will be for customs to reognise their anti-smuggling operations in the border areas and ensure that all those importers through the borders bring their rice through approved routes and pay their extant duty.

This is a laudable move by the Customs boss and it has the potential to go a long way in crashing the price of the product and ease the burden on families.

We know Nigerians just love their rice.

The drama between Kemi Olunloyo and Linda Ikeji dates back to years ago. In a previous rant, Olunloyo claimed she placed a gag order on Ikeji, hindering the blogger from publishing any story about her.

Now, Olunloyo is back, spewing anger on Ikeji but fans are not having it this time. While some accused Olunloyo is being envious of Ikeji’s achievements, some noted that the latest rant was triggered by Ikeji’s nomination for the personality award at the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards.

But Kemi Olunloyo refuses to admit to this accusation, instead she lets rip on social media, piling more personal attacks on the blogger, while Ikeji fans drag her for filth.
