The man denied snatching the chain from a woman in the street in Mumbai and swallowed it in a desperate bid to conceal his crime last week, but hospital X-rays suggested otherwise. Police in the western Indian city administered an enema which failed to yield the desired result. Doctors said an operation would be the best way forward, but police officers decided it would be too expensive and opted instead for the bananas. “He was fed more than 40 bananas throughout the day,” Mumbai police Senior Inspector Shankar Dhanavade told AFP. “Eventually the chain was found. We made him wash and disinfect it,” the policeman added. The 25-year-old man appeared in court on Friday and is in police custody, said Dhanavade. According to reports, it was not the first time Mumbai police had turned to the fruit in order to recover a stolen item. In July last year a chain was retrieved after a thief was made to eat two dozen bananas and drink several litres of milk laced with laxatives, the Hindustan Times reported. Months earlier in April, a thief was fed five dozen after swallowing a gold chain with a large pendant. The thief successfully excreted the loot. But the disgusted victim refused to touch it and instead took it to a jeweller in a plastic bag, the newspaper said. New students of the university, who spoke to newsmen in separate interviews, described the N75,000 compulsory laptop levy as arbitrary. It was gathered that the university administration had recently introduced a mandatory policy, wherein all the students are being forced to own a laptop. One of the new students described the policy as inhuman, noting that, “it is so sad that they are making education so difficult for the poor. “With this policy, we would now be paying close to N200,000 in a federal university per session. This is wickedness. “As I speak to you, I’m helpless because my parents don’t have that kind of money. It is wrong for anyone to make computer ownership compulsory. It should be a matter of choice. The management should not use us to make money.” Also speaking another student called on the education minister to call the vice chancellor to order. “We are begging the minister to urgently intervene because they are turning this university to a market place. “If the vice chancellor is interested in doing laptop business, he should find a market for it, not placing such burden on poor students. “Some of our parents are leaving on N18,000 minimum wage; now they want them to pay N200,000 as school fees for one session. This is wickedness of the highest order. This computer ownership should be by choice,” he stated. A Ogunbowale of Lagos State remanded 45-year-old security man, Musa Mohammed in prison for allegedly raping a 15-year-old boy. Ogunbowale is facing a two -count charge of assault and rape. The prosecutor, Inspector Asu Feddy said that the security man who resides on Glover Road, Ikoyi committed the alleged crime on November 9, 2015, at 4:10p.m. However when the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate consequently ordered that the defendant should be remanded in prison pending more investigation. The case was adjourned to December 9, for review of facts and sentencing. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development have demolished a church in Benin, but the pastor seems to be fingering an aggrieved neighbour in the plot. A group of men suspected to be thugs on Tuesday demolished a building housing the Excellent Flow of Christ Church in Benin, Edo State. According to Daily Post , the thugs who claimed to be working for the Edo State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, came to the church at about 9:00am in a Hilux van and Mitsubishi bus. The pastor of the church, one Victor Chukwu, revealed that trouble started one week after he moved in and one of his neighbours, Daniel Eboigbe, said the church activities were disturbing him. The Pastor, who noted that a petition was sent to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and a notice to remove the church was served on him on November 16, also alleged that Eboigbe had threatened to ensure they are removed from the area.
