Ibrahim Nyam and Jimmy Pam were ambushed and killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen as  they were heading to Jos from Barkin Ladi last week.

According to family sources, the Fulani herdsmen attacked the men and left them in the pool of their blood. Both men were married and had children. The rate of attacks in that area has been on the rise. Something needs to be done fast. May their souls rest in peace.

Family / 38 Swaziland Virgins Killed In Bus Accident by diamond02: 9:59am On Sep 01, 2015
38 Swaziland virgins killed in bus accident on their way to festival where Swaziland king chooses new bride…

An unfortunate road accident has claimed the lives of 38 young girls and women in Swaziland, and seriously injured Twenty others. The group were enroute to a traditional festival where King Mswati III chooses a new bride, says pro-democracy activists.

The fatal accident happened on Friday night when their open truck smashed into a car on the road between the tiny kingdom’s two main cities, Mbabane and Manzini, en route to the traditional Reed Dance.

“A total of 38 young girls have been pronounced dead, with more than 20 others seriously injured,” Swaziland Solidarity Network spokesman Lucky Lukhele said.

The Swaziland Solidarity Network campaigns for democracy in the landlocked kingdom within South Africa.
“The girls were in an open truck which hit a sedan car stopped on the road,” Mr Lukhele said.

The Reed Dance, due to be held on Monday, is a beauty pageant that attracts tens of thousands of young virgins who dance before the polygamist king, who can select one of them as a new wife.

Mswati, Africa’s last absolute monarch, chose his 14th wife at the celebration in 2013. King Mswati said the girls’ deaths were a “tragedy in the nation”.

“I would like to assure the parents who have lost their loved ones that the nation will support them through and through,” the monarch, speaking on the sidelines of a trade fair in Manzini, said.

“Also those in hospitals, should the need arise for further treatment they will be taken to other hospitals to ensure no further loss of life.”

Police confirmed there had been “fatalities” but declined to specify the toll, with police spokesman Khulekani Mamba saying: “We won’t be giving out any information because the maidens were on royal duty, so there are certain protocols to be followed before such information can be divulged to the public.”

Local media gave varying tolls, with government newspaper The Observer reporting hundreds of injuries and the Swazi News saying seven people had been killed, six of them girls.

News of the accident has not been broadcast on public television and journalists were blocked from photographing the crash scene, a local journalist said.

Mswati III has ruled Swaziland as an absolute monarch since his father’s death in 1982.

Health / Pregnancy - Pre-eclampsia by diamond02: 10:46am On Jul 30, 2015
Toxemia of pregnancy, known medically as preeclampsia, has sometimes been called "first pregnancy disease." Maybe not any more. A new study suggests that later pregnancies get just as risky if a woman waits 10 years between babies.

Pre-eclampsia strikes 19 in 100 pregnant Nigerian women. This sudden rise in blood pressure threatens both the unborn child and even the mother. In severe cases, the only cure is immediate induced delivery or C-section.
Furthermore, pre-eclampsia is a serious condition of pregnancy characterised by high blood pressure, protein in the urine and swelling of the hands, feet and face. Most women with pre-eclampsia don't have obvious symptoms, so regular antenatal check-ups are vital. The only cure is delivery of the baby

More so, pre-eclampsia is a serious disorder of pregnancy characterised by high maternal blood pressure, protein in the urine and severe fluid retention. It is one of the most common serious medical complication of pregnancy, affecting pregnancies in Nigeria. One to two per cent of cases are severe enough to threaten the lives of both the mother and her unborn child.

Pre-eclampsia accounts for one in five inductions and one in six Caesarean sections. The mechanisms behind the condition are mysterious, but genetic factors and the placenta seem to play significant roles. For reasons unknown, pre-eclampsia tends to be more common in first, rather than subsequent, pregnancies. The mother’s blood pressure usually returns to normal after the baby and placenta are delivered.

Effects on the mother

Pre-eclampsia may develop at any time during the second half of pregnancy, but commonly develops during the later stages of pregnancy. Pre-eclampsia most commonly causes high blood pressure and protein in the urine. It can also have a large spectrum of effects and potentially involve most body organs. In its most severe forms, it can cause problems in the kidneys, liver, brain and blood (in particular, the coagulation system). It is difficult to predict who will be affected, but certain women appear to be more at risk than others, including:

•Women experiencing their first pregnancy
•Those with pre-existing high blood pressure or some other types of vascular disease
•Women with a family history of the condition
•Diabetics
•Women pregnant with multiple fetuses.

The disorder can be asymptomatic

Contrary to popular belief, there is no evidence that pre-eclampsia is caused by emotional stress, working too hard or not getting sufficient bed rest. Pre-eclampsia initially has no obvious symptoms and most women with the condition feel fine. That’s why regular antenatal checks are so important. Pre-eclampsia is suspected if there is:

A sudden elevation in blood pressure (above levels at the start of pregnancy)
    Proteinuria (protein in the urine).

Serious signs

If left untreated, pre-eclampsia can lead to convulsions, kidney failure, liver failure, clotting problems or death. Some of the advanced symptoms of the disorder include:

• Dizziness
• Headache
• Visual disturbances, such as flashing. lights
• Abdominal pain just below the ribs
•Nausea and vomiting.

Effects on the unborn baby

In the womb, the baby is sustained by a special organ of pregnancy called the placenta. This organ allows oxygen and nutrients to pass from the mother’s bloodstream to the baby, and waste products (such as carbon dioxide) to pass from the baby’s bloodstream to the mother.

In pre-eclampsia, blood flow to the placenta becomes sluggish. In severe cases, the baby can be gradually starved of oxygen and nutrients, which may affect its growth. This growth restriction threatens the life of the baby and it is then necessary to deliver the baby prematurely. Another serious complication of pre-eclampsia is abruptio placentae, which means the placenta separates from the uterine wall and the woman experiences vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain. This is a medical emergency.

Diagnosis and treatment

Some symptoms of pre-eclampsia, such as fluid retention, are also typical of normal pregnancy. This means that some women may dismiss the early warning signs. Regular antenatal checks are vital. At present, there is no way to cure pre-eclampsia. Sometimes medication is needed to control blood pressure and prevent convulsions, and the woman may benefit from resting. The only cure is to deliver the baby and the placenta.

Current research

Maternal deaths are very rare; however, pre-eclampsia and its associated complications are responsible for around 15 per cent of maternal deaths. Medical researchers are looking for ways to predict pre-eclampsia, in order to further minimise the risks for susceptible mothers and their babies. Since pre-eclampsia tends to run in families, scientists are currently looking for the specific gene(s) which predispose a person to this condition. If discovered, it is hoped there will eventually be a pre-pregnancy test for the condition.

Where to get help

    •Your doctor
    •Midwife
    •Obstetrician

Things to remember

Pre-eclampsia is a serious condition of pregnancy, usually characterised by high blood pressure, protein in the urine and swelling.
Most women with pre-eclampsia feel fine, which means that regular antenatal check-ups are vital.
There is no cure for the condition, except delivery of the baby and the placenta.

Health / Why Men Sleep After Sex by diamond02: 9:39pm On Sep 27, 2014
Since the inception of sexuality, many reasons have been given why men sleep just immediately after sex; with ‘they are selfish’ point topping the list of reasons, many need to know the real reasons why this has been prominent with men.

Although sex has been referred to as one of the most enjoyable things between a man and woman,  the woman race has been on the search to know why men nods straight to sleep after a good sex. With most women thinking ”dropping” straight into sleep by their men is a complete negative phenomena, the general notion has been that men are actually selfish to sleep immediately not minding how their mates feel about it.

Although men argue that the nature of sleeping immediately after sex  is due to tiredness from its rigors, Scientists have however found a good argument for men by confirming that ”men sleep after sex because they just cannot help it”. In a recent publication by Punch, it has been ascertained that men sleep after sex because they have little power over their bodies at that point in time, hence, not being able to stay awake after the whole rigor of sex.

Scientists have said that men really do need to sleep after sex when they climax because their brains become flooded with sleep-inducing chemicals such as oxytocin, serotonin and prolactin. Also, the blood rush after the climax depletes the muscles of energy-producing glycogen and because men typically have higher muscle density than women, they become more tired after sex.

A research made it known that after sex, a man’s cerebral cortex, which is the ‘thinking’ area, shuts down almost immediately after orgasm, in which two other areas, the cingulate cortex and amygdale make the rest of the brain to deactivate from sexual desire. This successive sexual behavior has however been linked to only humans alone according to research.

However it has been said that wives can talk to their partners about how they feel after sex, urging their husbands to dedicate few minutes for them immediately after sex, so as to help enhance the sleeping nature of their husbands after sex. According to a Consultant Psychologist, Prof. Toba Elegbeleye, said sex takes a lot of energy to complete and that there is tendency for the brain and the entire system to want to rest when such intense energy is exhibited. He also made it known that the location where the sexual activity takes place also has a way of affecting the man. In his words:  “When you indulge in sex, which usually takes place at night when people sleep naturally, it comes with a level of intensity that involves all your energy and whatever you can muster to make it have a shaking effect, after which the multi-nerve ends are relaxed. This makes people sleep easily.

“It also depends on where you do it. Usually, if it is a legal encounter, which takes place in your own bedroom where you are comfortable, you might sleep, which is different from when you do it in your car or somewhere else under duress, that is not so comfortable.

“Another factor that could aid sleeping well after sex is eating good food prior to the act because you may not be able to do it well if you are hungry and the body entertains only one urge at a time and hunger is as strong an urge and a drive as sex is. Other factors could be to have a pleasant room atmosphere with a good bed and if there is no thought of threatening financial burden or security issues in mind.”

Family / What Would You Do ? by diamond02: 7:55am On Sep 23, 2014
A woman tells her husband that she is going to visit her sick mum in the village.
She goes on Friday and returns on Sunday, with plenty of fruits and food stuff, saying they are from her mum to the husband and the children. The husband gently asks her about her mother's health and how she was doing, to which she replies that she took her to the hospital in the village and she is
recovering and getting better. The wife adds that her mother insisted that she must re-visit the village in a few days, to spend at least a week with her. "I'm
worried about Mama" the wife crooned, with tears swelling in her eyes. "She'll be fine, dear." Hubby
lovingly replied. The husband then politely asks her to take the items to the kitchen. As she enters, she meets her mother preparing food in the kitchen.
Apparently, her mum came visiting since the Friday that she left home. You can imagine the plight of this woman; stuck, shocked, dazed and dumbfounded at the kitchen door! whether to go in and drop the items 'from mama', or return to her hubby in the living room!
How would you handle this case? Your humble opinion is required.

Health / Ebola: Nigerian Health Authorities Confirm Six Infected In Enugu by diamond02: 4:40pm On Aug 15, 2014
Nigeria's health minister has confirmed that only six out of the 21 contacts earlier reported to have come in contact with a nurse in Enugu state on Wednesday have actually been infected with the Ebola virus.

He added that the nurse is one of the primary contacts of the late patrick sawyer who was being treated in a lagos hospital before she went home to Enugu state.

The minister says all six contacts are currently under surveillance and the government is doing all it takes to see that the spread of the virus is contained.
