hazard1759: Good morning everyone.. I bought a 1997 Camry about 5months back.I've had two main recurring problems with the car. 1.Most times, the milage goes off and the speedometer will stop to work. This makes the car to take a long time in selecting gears.
2.Most times it rough idles, there are times the issue will stop but since I've bought the car I've change fuel filter, fuel pump, plugs, plug cables and they've serviced the injectors too.when ever I engage a gear the RPM meter is unstable, it jerks.
kizyalex10: i used 2011venza thou but then venza is my first choice anyday anytime, the car na beast nd well balanced,i sold my rx350 2010 jst under a year.venza all d way, lexus is jst overhyped, the rate people rush it here in abroad to send makes most sellers in abroad to hike d price unlike other cars,i bought honda 2009 accord last year for 2400 dollars yet lexus es 330 2005 without reverse camera for sale for 2500 dollar same last year and when i entered the honda nd seeing the interior with d lexus,i ask myself if naija people dey craze ni,i would rather drive 2009 honda accord instead of es 330 lexus...u will see 2005 lexus rx 330 going for 5 thousand dollars or 4800 dollars while murano 2009 or 2011 is going around dat price too or relatively cheaper self with neat interior while d lexus dash board don break break self.
Most naija look at durability rather than interior beauty
I use a vibe, but if I have to chose between the two I will pick the Camry... The fuel consumption difference isn't much....
I use 2k fuel to work my colleague who uses camry in same neighborhood uses 2k5 or there about.
Pontiac parts can be expensive especially head light, back light and bumper... I went to ladipo to price them... Price were high since no Chinese clowns which are cheaper
adanny01: Am saying the set up is the same. Its called the "double wishbone suspension" and several if not all Accords use it. Even Toyota use it on heavier cars like Hilux, Prado etc
Technically, a ball joint can fail in any car. In the Accord, IMO the placing of the ball joint above the lower control arm causes more stress to the ball joint, the bolt shaft and the nut. So a thread failure is 10 times more likely to happen leading to k-leg. To prevent it, Honda decided to put a cotter pin to prevent the nut from falling out but for whatever stupid reason, Naija mechanics will remove the pin and throw away leaving Nigerians at the mercy of k-leg.
On an Accord, the weight of the car through the shocks rest on the nut with a safety pin, on a Camry the weight of the car through the shocks rests on the hub. That's why Camry's have more bearing failure but less ball joint failure.
The only thing is that ball joint failure is more catastrophic.
Lastly, do you know that Chinese ball joint doesn't even come with the hole for cotter pin? If you noticed, mechanics will buy new chinko ball joint but will not use the new nut. If the nut is substandard, the ball joint is surely substandard. The Nigerian factor is the reason for failures.
Thanks boss, awesome post, what if I go for Honda crv or Honda element am I safe from this problem? I love Honda and hate Toyota
Just buy OEM ball joint (new or toks) and forget about it.
Buy the ball joint that cost 1.5-5k, expect a pull out from the very day you put that ball joint.
The 2008 up accord has exactly the same set up with the 2006 down accord. No change from Honda. The ball joint is just bigger in size to accommodate for the heavier car. The 2003 to 2007 ball joint is also bigger than the 2002 down. This is also due to more weight on newer models.
Bro are you saying let pull dry worry 2008 upward too.. And lastly what about the Honda Element
Roydonzy87: Nice write up , this is one of the reason i gave out my first car Honda baby boy to my sister, it makes me hate Honda with passion because of this suspension... Thanks anyway for this information
Chai you like you sister, imagine a lady stranded on the road with a pull ball joint
adebayo111: is there anyone here that have repaired his transmission and it last long. please drop the number of your repairer. thanks, my sienna 1999 gear is down

No worry we go dey correspond on whatsap as usual, God bless you boss
isinite4me: Thank u my guy for sharing ur experience and what u have done with this car. I myself is also a owner of this same car Camry V6 SE. People always talk-down on V6 car, but I thank God that I bought this car. BTW it was my friend that hook me up with it.
Car is very fast and quite, fuel consumption is very economy, honestly I can't tell the different with 4 cylinder. Cause I spent same amount of fuel for a week drive of previous car (4 cyn). plus the comfort and everything. It worth it 110%. This is personal experience oo, although toyota fuel economy is very good, plus my car is still in top condition. Other brand of v6 may consume more or different.
Personally I don't like tampering with electrical system of my car because I don't like cut and join things of which most of our electricians do here, hence I let everything remain at factory. But I plan to do some changes like changing of stereo to dvd or android, dashboard light to white instead of orange (very important, don't like the orange), the rim is bit expensive sha, however mine came with 17-rim plus anti theft system and I like the current rim.
People admired my car all the times, other than say the car by itself is very clean, I also wash it myself with car wash. Will like to get another better type of car wash sha since u mentioned it. I def never ever used detergent to wash my car. I always try my best to keep my car in a very top condition always, I checks everything to ensure they are in good working conditions and don't manage things. I change them if need to be change. Do my servicing with specified oil when due, use coolant as well.
I have few things to do with the car sha as mentioned earlier but i will start with tinted permit first.
Honestly I love this car. Parts are fairly cheap like corolla. If u want a car that is very effective and u won't break a bank to fix it, go for this one. I tell u, u won't regret it. In fact this particular model is better than 4 cylinder engine. Someone told me about issues related to 4cyn after long use which this one does not have. So that is a plus.
I have learnt a lot from ur post and will like for us to connect in order to share experience going forward.
Here is my Big Daddy pics, enjoy it. Thanks for reading.
What issues are common to 4 cylinder are you referring to boss
Observer007: Wow! N10,000 for suspension diagnosis?!! Just when I was beginning to toy with the idea of stopping by at your workshop for some assistance with the issues we earlier discussed. Wonder what scanning and actual workmanship charges would be like.
Soup wey sweet Ololopaa... If you willing to get your hands dirty you can learn the basic here... I personally use this but no harm in trying a pro too
