1. Alexander the Great (356 bc-323 bc)...

Alexander was king of Macedonia who conquered the Persian empire, invaded India and spread Grecian culture across much of the ancient world.

Tutored by Aristotle at a young age, he became king after his father, Phillip II, was assassinated.

While he never officially ranked the seven commanders, Napoleon himself, along with many other historians, seemed to consider Alexander the best.

"I place Alexander in the first rank," Napoleon told Bourrienne. "My reason for giving the preference to the king of Macedon is, on account of the conception, and above all, for the execution of his campaign in Asia," adding that he admired the Siege of Tyre, conquest of Egypt and march to the Oasis Ammon most.

Alexander died from illness in 323 bc.

Caesar was a Roman general and politician who is one of the greatest conquerors of all time.

Well known for his victory at the Battle of Alesia and conquest of the Gauls, he was made a consul in the first Roman Triumvarate in 59 BC along with Pompey the Great and Marcus Licinios Crassus.

But civil war later broke out between Caesar and Pompey. In 48 BC, after suffering a series of defeats to Caesar, Pompey was murdered in Egypt.

"I admire the fine campaign of Caesar in Africa," Bourriene quoted Napoleon as saying.

Shortly after that, he fought a quick war in Anatolia — in present day Turkey — and made quick work of the king of Cimmerian Bosporus. His famous words, “I came, I saw, I conquered,” were from this war.

Caesar was afterwards made dictator, but was assassinated — stabbed to death by the Roman senators — in 44 BC.

Hannibal was a Carthaginian general and statesman in present day Tunisia who wreaked havoc on the Roman Empire.

Arguably his greatest conquest came during the Battle of Cannae when he compelled the Romans into attacking in unfavorable conditions, eventually wiping out their cavalry and then its entire army. The Roman historian Polybius wrote that Hannibal's army killed 70,000 Romans.

Hannibal is also well known for impressively crossing the Alps before entering Italy and the Battle of Cannae, surviving harrowing assaults from the Gauls.

His power diminished, he poisoned himself around 183

Turenne was a French field marshal who served Louis XIV, also known as The Sun King.

Perhaps his greatest victories came in the winter of 1674 and 1675 during the Franco-Dutch War. In December of 1674, he maneuvered around the German army and surprised them weeks later in early January, hitting the enemy's flanks and driving them away from Alsace.

He was killed later in July 1675, as the Franco-Dutch War was still raging, by a cannonball as he was observing enemy lines.

In 1793, Revolutionary France was bent on erasing anything that had to with royalty and religion, and began destroying royal tombs at St-Denis outside of Paris.

Known as a man of the people, Turenne's body was one of the few left untouched. His remains now reside in the Invalides.

"You seem to admire [Frederick the Great] immensely," Napoleon once told a subordinate, according to his secretary, Bourrienne. "What do you find in him so astonishing? He is not equal to Turenne."

"General," Napoleon's subordinate replied, "it is not merely the warrior I esteem in Frederick, but one cannot refuse one's admiration of a man, who even on the throne, was a philosopher."

"True ... but all his philosophy shall not prevent me from striking out his kingdom from the map of Europe," Napoleon said.

A few years later, after he crowned himself emperor, Napoleon annihilated Prussia during the Jena-Auerstadt campaign of 1806, and subsumed the kingdom in his empire.

Frederick II, or Frederick the Great, was king of Prussia from 1740-1786 and greatly expanded his kingdom's territory through his military victories.

Some of his greatest victories were at the battles of Rossbach and Leuthen during the Seven Years War, where he defeated larger armies with great maneuvering.

But despite being one of Napoleon's seven great commanders, the French commander appeared to consider the next commander even better.

Gustavus Adolphus was king of Sweden between 1611-1632, and helped put Sweden on the map.

One of his greatest victories was at the Battle of Breitenfeld during the Thirty Years War when his forces, together with the Saxons, flanked both sides of the Catholic army and annihilated the enemy.

He was killed during the same war while leading a cavalry charge at the Battle of Lutzen.

7. Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736).
Eugene was a field marshal and statesman under the guise of the House of Savoy, which served the Holy Roman Emperor of Austria.

Wounded in battle 13 times during his 39 year career, one of Eugene's greatest conquests was the Siege of Belgrade in 1717 against the Ottoman Empire, in which he led a cavalry attack that helped turn the tide.

"Military science," Napoleon was quoted as saying by Madame de Remusat, "consists in calculating all the chances accurately in the first place, and then in giving accident exactly, almost mathematically, it's place in one's calculations."

"Prince Eugene is one of those who understood [this] best," Napoleon said

Napoleon encouraged his officers to pore over these seven commanders' campaigns to learn the art of war....

Napoleon Bonaparte is one of the greatest military commanders of all time.

He brought Revolutionary France back from the brink of destruction with his Italian campaign in 1796 and 1797. He made a fool of Czar Alexander I at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805. He encircled an entire Austrian army and forced them to capitulate at the Battle of Ulm in 1805. And these are just a few of his exploits.

But he was also a student of history, and repeatedly instructed his subordinates to pore over the campaigns of seven specific commanders that came before him, arguing that it was the only way to learn the art of war and become a great captain.

"Your own genius will be enlightened and improved by this study, and you will learn to reject all maxims foreign to the principles of these great commanders," Napoleon said.

We've ranked the commanders based on Napoleon's comments and their own achievements:

In a footage recorded in September 2017, Yusuf was offered a sum to influence his selection at the regional championship that was held in Ghana...
attention has shifted to its Nigerian counterpart, with Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf the latest caught in the entrapment of investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Salisu who led the Nigeria B side to the Wafu Cup of Nations in Ghana was filmed by Anas’ Tiger Eye PI agency in September 2017 collecting cash believed to be $1000 from undercovers, posing as agents in order to influence players’ selection at the tournament.
Also, the former Kano Pillars handler was also promised 15% from the players’ contracts should they get snapped up, with the gaffer in turn promising the agents spots for both players at the 2018 African Nations Championship in Morocco.
The players were not named in the footage as Nigeria went all the way to the final, where they were handed a 4-1 defeat by hosts Ghana - their only loss in the competition....
Nigeria’s top football coach, Salisu Yusuf, has been caught on camera taking cash. The footage, exposed here for the first time, was captured by controversial Ghanaian investigative journalist @anasglobal and recently handed to #BBCAfricaEye. pic.twitter.com/Yy5oiaJELx...
Salisu took the team to CHAN in Morocco earlier this year, where they also finished second behind the hosts. And he was Gernot Rohr’s assistant to the recently concluded World Cup in Russia, where the Super Eagles were unable to navigate their way past Group D.
The 56-year-old was brought in Sunday Oliseh’s stead after the former Juventus’ player dismissal in 2016.
He masterminded friendly victories over Mali and Luxembourg before the Nigeria Football Federation announced Gernot Rohr as a substantive coach, whom he became his assistant.

1. History Supreme ~ Price: $4.5 billion

Finally, boasting the world’s most expensive yacht is the History Supreme. This pricey 100-foot vessel was designed by world-renowned UK luxury designer Stuart Hughes, took over 3 years to complete and was purchased by an anonymous Malaysian businessman for a whopping $4.5 billion dollars! This staggering sum is owed to the solid gold and platinum used to assembly this luxury liner which features no less than 100,000 kg (220,000 Ibs) of these precious metals. They adorn the entirety of the boat right from the base of the vessel, coated in a thin layer of solid gold, to the dining area, deck, rails, staircases and anchor. One of the most outstanding features of this magnificent superyacht is the master bedroom. It boasts a wall feature made from meteorite rock and a statue made from genuine Tyrannosaurus Rex bones! In addition, a 68 kg 24-carat gold Aquavista Panoramic Wall Aquarium graces the master suite and on board is a liquor bottle featuring an extremely rare 18.5 carat diamond worth $45 million alone! Finally, an iPhone wrapped in 500 cut diamonds, including two interchangeable diamonds fitted over the "home button, a 7.4 carat pink diamond and a rare 8 carat diamond, add to the many extravagant features on the History Supreme, the most expensive yacht in the world.

2. Eclipse – $1.5 billion

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is proud owner of the Eclipse, the second most expensive yacht in the world. Rumoured to be worth $800,000 to $1.5 billion, it was built by Blohm and Voss of Hamburg and measures 536 feet long also making it the second largest in the world. The Eclipse’s immense size allows space for the boat’s many extravagant features including 24 guest cabins, two swimming pools, several hot tubs, and a disco hall not to mention the two helicopter pads, three launch boats and mini-submarine capable of submerging up to 50 metres underwater. Furthermore, for maximum security, the Eclipse is fitted with intruder detection systems and a missile defence system whilst the master bedroom and bridge of the yacht features fitted armour plating and bulletproof windows. Finally, this unique vessel boasts an anti-paparazzi shield which consists of lasers sweeping the surrounding areas. Upon detection of possible lurking professional photographers, a light is shone directly upon the camera to prevent a photograph being taken. 3. Streets of Monaco – $1.1 billion

As the name indicates this luxury yacht comprises a floating replica of the city of Monaco. To be more precise, the Streets of Monaco is modelled on a section of Monte Carlo and expected to cost over $1.1 billion. The reason for such a hefty price tag is that, unlike your more traditional luxury liner, this extraordinary 500-foot superyacht by Yacht Island Design of Derbyshire County in England, features scaled-down reproductions of landmarks from the billionaire playground of Monaco. They include the famous Monte Carlo Casino and racetrack, as well as Hotel de Paris. Cafe de Paris, La Rascasse and the Loews Hotel. Streets of Monaco also boasts swimming pools and tennis courts in addition to sumptuous living quarters imitating those featuring in Monaco’s finest hotels. They include seven guest suites (accommodating up to 16 people) with accompanying receptions rooms, bathrooms, dressing rooms and balconies all located in the Atrium, the ship’s centerpiece. Similarly, the Atrium houses the main apartment of the fortunate billionaire owner, approximately the size of a luxury penthouse, spreading over three floors and extending over 4,800 square feet. Finally, on board the Streets of Monaco there also BBQ facilities, a mini waterfall, a unique café-bar boasting underwater views, helicopters and submarines. The only question that remains is whether they will find a billionaire with enough money to turn this dream boat into a reality!

4. Azzam – $650 million

Lürssen Yachts is behind this luxury liner which was recently delivered to fortunate Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nayan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Abu Dhabi for no less than $650 million. This makes it the world’s fourth most expensive luxury yacht with the makers boasting that the Azzam is "the most complex and challenging yacht that has ever been built". However, not only has the Azzam been dominating the headlines for its hefty price tag but also due to its immense size. Measuring in at 590 feet long, this floating extravagance boasts the largest private yacht in the world thus knocking the Eclipse, belonging to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, off the top spot. In addition, this impressive superyacht is expected to be one of the fastest reaching speeds of more than 30 knots, or 35mph. The luxury interiors were designed by French interior decorator Christophe Leoni which has been described as "sophisticated and luxurious in a turn of the century Empire style". For the moment little else is known about the Azzam. Now the only question remaining is, with the world’s billionaires constantly competing to own the largest superyacht, how long will it remain at the top?

5. Dubai – $350 million

Originally a joint project between Blohm + Voss and Lürssen shipyards, the Dubai was commissioned by Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei more than 10 years prior to the ship’s launch in 2006. It was acquired by Platinum Yachts for His Highness Sheik Mohammed Rashid al-Maktoum (ruler of Dubai) who designed the decadent interior. The most striking features of this beautiful boat comprise the abundance of sunbathing areas, several jacuzzis and the swimming pool boasting elaborate handmade tiling. Similarly, the interior features intricately designed handmade mosaics and a stunning circular staircase with glass steps with change colour with the light that enters from the top deck. Bold colours dominate the spectacularly decorated interior whilst the spacious deck of the Dubai houses a split-level owner’s deck, a large social area and lounge, numerous VIP and guest suites, and finally a crew area large enough to carry up to 115 people. Finally, a helipad, which can accommodate a helicopter of up to 9,5 tons, completes this extravagant ensemble, previously the largest yacht in the world.

6. Motor Yacht A – $323 million

There is nothing unique about the name of this luxury liner however, the 400-feet long Motor Yacht A does boast an original design. Reminiscent of a stealth warship or submarine, it was designed by Blohm + Voss of Hamburg for Andrey and Aleksandra Melnichenko, the Russian billionaire and his wife. As can be expected, the Motor Yacht A comprises the epitome of luxury. The boat interior extends over 24,000 square feet housing a 2,500 square feet master bedroom and disco, as well as six guest suites which can be converted into four larger staterooms thanks to the moving walls. In addition, mirrored surfaces feature extensively throughout the interior whilst the furniture, glassware and tableware are made of French crystal. Above deck, the Motor Yacht A houses a helicopter hangar, as well as a 30 foot speed boat kept in the hull and three swimming pools, one of which is glass.-bottomed and situated directly above the aforementioned disco. Finally, it has been designed to accommodate up to 14 guests and boasts enough space for 42 crew members......

Little is known about the Al Said apart from the fact that it houses a concert hall big enough to accommodate a 50-piece orchestra. At the time of its construction in 2007 and 2008, it comprised the world’s second largest yacht and can host up to 70 guests with a crew of 154.....
