We shall all die dontrulee: Yes, I've been to the morgue and I've certified many people dead.
They all look like they're sleeping, just that it's a sleep they can't wake up from.
Sometimes this year, one of my girlfriends took a picture of me sleeping and it reminded me of my mortality, that one day (which could be anytime), my eyelids will close never to open again. I loved the picture so much that I used it as my screenlock. We shall all die and it's something we shouldn't be afraid of |

So sorry for your sister who died through diabetes. It's like it wasn't properly managed. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic for 14 years now. Life taya me o DoctorAyukebot: I wish we had five of your kind on Nairaland.
By the way I'm sorry to learn of the passing away of your wife. Life becomes meaningless for a while when we lose a love one. Some people never fully recover from the shock. I lost a brother several years back to brain problems. Before him I lost a sister to diabetes. She was only 20 years old when she died. Three years ago my mother passed on and four years ago my father.
I don't know which pained most. My sister's demise was the first I lost someone that close to the cold strands of death. I did cry my lungs when the corpse finally arrived home. I never made it to the mortuary cos was in charge of the funeral preparations at home. It's been 20 years since she passed on. I could go for months without missing or thinking about her despite having named my 18 years old daughter after her.
The experience is different with my brother. With Just a year apart we grew up like twins. He was at the hospital with my sister during her last days. When she fell into a diabetic coma, he fell into unconsciousness cos of the shock and only recovered to a depressed mood of psychological breakdown. (Madness)
After four years of psychiatric problems he too succumbed. It's been 16 years since he passed on but a day has never gone by without thinking about him. I did name my thirteen years old son after him. If I had to chose two persons from the world beyond to bring back to life, it would be him and him.
I don't miss my parents that much. My mum was just 59 years old when she passed on. Our relationship had become rocky over the years due to Pentecostal radicalism. I do blame her sometimes for my brother's demise, having refused us from seeking medical help for him on the hypothesis of God having revealed to her that, it was a spiritual issue that needed only prayers.
However it's hard to forget her. She was still a very caring mother and the good days are hard to forget. My father was 72 when he passed on. I don't particularly miss him that much but pity his last days made difficult by my mum who had become radicalized in a strange Pentecostal world of her own.
Daily when I pray I say "God whatever harm would befall my children let it befall me. I don't think I could stand the pain of losing one of them despite my inner strengths. Every iron ore has its melting point though. They are my melting point |

Brother, you need God, l was born asthmatic and suffered intense attacks but God saved me. I have no single symptoms anymore. This is the only method I know. I do hope you can have faith in God, if not for miracle at least for financial comfort to buy medication. |

Health › My Life Trajectory As A Type 1 Diabetes by DisLifeSha(op): 8:27pm On Nov 13, 2024 |
Tomorrow November 14th is World Diabetes Day. This is my 14 years of living with Type 1 Diabetes in the midst of poverty and struggle. Life hasn't been easy. I'll like to share my experience and how Type 1 Diabetes has affected my life
1. Work : For several years, I've been working as an house keeper just to survive. It hasn't been easy as I receive a salery of 27,000 naira while the price of the insulin right now is 36,500 naira
2. School : I graduated from the secondary school in 2010 at the age of 16 and the illness of Type 1 Diabetes started in 2017 at the age of 17. I couldn't go to the university because of Type 1 Diabetes.
3. Marital Life : Am 31 now and am not married. I'm not happy about it as I preferred to start my family early but financial life is not okay right now. I can't even take care of myself right now not even another
4. Religion: I used to be a christian but I came to realize that I might die early if I continue being a christian. I was attacked in Mercyland owned by Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin by the church security because my sugar level was low and I couldn't get myself. They beat me up almost dead where they later dumped me in a clinic.
5. My Supposed Business: The business I suppose to be doing now is an internet business. I've bought several courses online and I know what to do but I only need the capital to start.
6. My family: Born into a single parent family a single mother hasn't been easy. My father who has never spent a Kobo on me has made me to vow never to give birth like that but I must get married first.
7. How the Economic Situation Affects Me Right Now: The level of inflation has affected me seriously. I ate once in two days in 2023 for 7 months because of the price of food. Right now, I eat bit by bit in the morning and evening. Sometimes I sleep with empty stomach. Close to two years now, I've not eaten rice because Basmati rice and Ofada rice is too expensive. Right now, I manage to eat Quoker Oat and Unripe Plantain with oil on a daily basis
8. Depression and Suicide: I've thought about commiting suicide sometimes due to the depression of doing what am not supposed to do with my life. But I decided not to because I want my story to motivate somebody who's Type 1 Diabetes that it's not a death sentence
9. Extended Family: I lost a relative of mine to this Type 1 Diabetes in February this year 2024. It's a very painful situation as I couldn't help out. He was a very young boy.
10. The Price of my Drugs: The price of the insulin I take right now is too expensive. The price for Humulin 70/30 right now is 36,500 and I receive a salary of 27,000 naira. I've become a beggar because of Type 1 Diabetes. The Nigerian government should subsidize the price of diabetic drugs. People living with diabetes are dying.
I pray the Nigerian government to here and listen to the plight of people living with Type 1 Diabetes and people living with Diabetes in general. The health minister should pass this message to our president. It's not easy. We need help |

That's no solution or prevention. Type 1 diabetics got to always control their sugar level through insulin intake Christlike01: Exercise regularly, drink plenty of water, and minimize your sugar intake. Anyone who does this consistently will be able to keep their diabetes in check. |

The pancreas can no longer produce insulin Winnin009: Bro, keep calm. You just described one type; Type 2. Don't be ignorant. You can voice you opinions without slandering people. Not all diabetes is directly related to too much sugar intake.
A kind of diabetes actually requires you to take something of high sugar to raise blood sugar levels. It's called Type 1 diabetes |

Health › Re: 6 Million Nigerians Face Existential Threat As Cost Of Diabetes Care Skyrockets by DisLifeSha: 10:44am On Nov 13, 2024 |
Type 1 Diabetes is not self inflicted. It's genetic epainos: Diabetes is a self-inflicted disease. Period! Everyone with the disease is a food/sugar freak who finds it difficult to let go. If you want to argue, go ahead, but check them all well before you do so. How many of them gave up sugar easily? How many of them can easily give up high glycemic index foods? "Dem wan chop swallow na and put meat, round about, panmo, etc".
Start a garden, eat organic food, stay away from processed sugar and high glycemix index food, and you can manage well or reverse it if not irreversible.
But they will keep arguing. "Na dem get their wahala".
How can it be free when there is overpopulation and corruption? Decay is inevitable, but not until we have a sustainable structure in place. How can you freely care for over 300 million people with a GDP per capita of less than $4000? Even if we remove corruption, it will take at least 5 years to start balancing everything. It is as if you do not understand what is wrong with Nigeria. |
