TravelRe: A Nigerian In The Uk making The News by djavo(m): 12:14pm On Nov 11, 2011
A senior border official is facing a “substantial” prison sentence after pleading guilty to issuing visas to “scores” of non-European citizens who had no right to stay in Britain.
Samuel Shoyeju, 53, had tens of thousands of pounds deposited in his bank account as he committed a “vast breach of trust” by allowing immigrants to remain in the country indefinitely, Basildon Crown Court heard.

The prosecution conceded that it could not prove he was motivated by money, but the father of three was remanded in custody pending sentencing, after he admitted one count of misconduct in a public office. Six further counts, including the concealment of funds and the possession of false Nigerian passports, were dropped.

The case will heap further pressure on the UK Border Agency, which is embroiled in controversy after allowing hundreds of thousands of foreigners to enter the country without full passport and anti-terrorism checks.

Brodie Clark, the head of the UK border force, resigned on Tuesday, accusing Theresa May, the Home Secretary, of misleading the public over the Government’s compliance in the pilot scheme.

Shoyeju, from Canvey Island, Essex, was employed as a senior border official at the agency’s head office in Croydon, where he vetted African applicants for British passports, and granted “indefinite leave to remain” to non-eligible foreign nationals. He had also worked as an entry clearance officer in Nigeria, the court heard
Lucy Kennedy, prosecuting, said various documents suggested that he had been paid by the beneficiaries of the counterfeit visas he unlawfully issued. Cash payments in the tens of thousands were also going through his accounts at the time of the offence, on or before April 2008, she added.

Miss Kennedy said: “There is an inference to be drawn that he was motivated by money, he did not do it out of the kindness of his heart. This was not an act of charity.”

But Stephen Linehan QC, defending, insisted the allegation should not be taken into account when sentencing, arguing: “It cannot be proven that he did it for money.”

Judge Christopher Mitchell concluded it was “somewhere between charity and a business”. He turned down an application for bail, warning Shoyeju he faced a “substantial period in custody”.

He will be sentenced following the trial of a co-defendant, Violet Savizon, 47, from Thornton Heath, south London, who is charged with three counts of misconduct in a public office, conspiracy and breaching immigration laws.

A third defendant, Rashidat Aina-Obe, 36, from Dagenham, Essex, had pleaded guilty to fraud. She is believed to be the recipient of a letter falsely granting her indefinite leave to remain in the UK, and will be sentenced at a later date.

PoliticsNigerian Ex-governor James Ibori Sent From Dubai To Uk by djavo(op): 7:52pm On Apr 15, 2011
The former governor of oil-rich Delta state is accused of stealing funds worth $290m (£196m) by Nigeria's EFCC anti-corruption agency.

He was arrested in Dubai last May and lost an appeal against his extradition.

He has always denied corruption allegations and in 2009, a Nigerian court cleared him of 170 charges.

He is a senior figure in Nigeria's governing People's Democratic Party (PDP) and played a key role in the 2007 presidential election victory of Umaru Yar'Adua, who died last year.

He is accused of transferring stolen public money to banks in the UK.

A London court last year convicted Mr Ibori's wife on related charges.

In 2007 a UK court froze assets allegedly belonging to him worth $35m (£21m). His annual salary was less than $25,000.

He had already left the UK when his assets were seized.

He was first arrested in Nigeria in December 2007.

Under Nigeria's federal system, state governors enjoy wide powers.

Those running oil-rich states have budgets larger than those of some African countries.

They enjoy immunity from prosecution while in power, but several have faced corruption charges since leaving office after the last election in 2007.

Thank God i am not one of his constituents, because i can not imagine him representing me in the national assembly and my concerns will never be understood by any of the lawmaykers who could have helped with my concerns just because he choose to speak ''french'' in an english speaking assembly. If he has such a ridiculos command of the english language then surely he must know what the word communicating means. At the moment i am not sure if anybody have a clue of what he says.I bet  his mates in the house will have to record his statement on the flooor of the house and pass it on their assistant to translate  and come up with a transcript of his statement(expenses claims for the transcript), before they can give him an answer probably after a couple of days(What a waste of public money).I urge his constituents to vote him out in the next general election beacuse this guy only represent himself and his grammar in the national assembly.

TravelNigerian Dies In Swiss Deportation by djavo(op): 1:49pm On Mar 23, 2010
Switzerland has halted special flights to deport asylum seekers after a Nigerian man on hunger strike died on the tarmac at Zurich airport.

Swiss police say they had shackled the 29-year-old man, who was being forcibly deported along with 15 other Nigerians whose asylum bids had been rejected.

When he fell ill on Wednesday the police took off his shackles and a doctor tried in vain to revive him.

Swiss authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Police said they had shackled the man because he had resisted deportation.

Two Nigerian witnesses quoted by the Swissinfo news website accused the police of inhumane treatment.

"They treated us like animals," said one, called Emmanuel.

"They shackled our feet, knees, hands, hips, arms and torso and made us wear a helmet like those worn by boxers. It was simply impossible to move," he said.

The man who died was a drug-dealer who had been on hunger strike for several days.

It is the third such death in Switzerland since 1999.

Last year there were 43 special repatriation flights from Switzerland, deporting some 360 people, mostly to the Balkans or Africa, Swissinfo reports.

I dont think there is much the phone companies in Nigeria can do when you have companies over the internet like the link bellow selling premium numbers to anybody anywhere in the world. We should all be careful of picking calls or returning calls that are not known to us.I just did a google search and i found this site and others offering international premium line that you can fix your call charges.if the number look strange then dont pick it or return call and if you think are expecting international calls the you can always find out from
(http://www.countrycallingcodes.com/)if the call originates from the country you are expecting calls from.God save us!!!

''The powers of the President are not exercised territorially. Yar’Adua can exercise his powers anywhere in the world, on the plane, at the meeting of the United Nations or even on his sick bed, as long as he is not inincapacitatedy the sickness''
I cant bebelieve this atattorneyeneral of a man,how do we know he is not inincapacitated. Most of his foforeign trips are on medical grounds and now we dont even know when he will be back in the country, on a second thought he has not done us any good when he was here anyway so it make no difference if he is back or not.The fact remains that we need someone with an average bill of health to lead this country at least to set up a certain point of agenda and fufulfilling it, not someone with serious questionable health issues setting up some seven points agenda that he has not got a clue on how to go about it.Anyway as someone said the atattorney general is just tring to stay in his job.
TravelRe: Free Admission Into Swedish Universities In On Right Now by djavo(m): 1:16pm On Dec 16, 2009
I wonder why people like this poster come to places like here offering to help others but then again demanding an incentive for their so called assisting or helping when infact they are attempting to run a business, and more so this assistant he's attempting to offer is available for free to anybody out there.Student admission to Swedish uni is hassle free for genuine applicants with simple steps to follow, invest your time and google the uni's in Sweden, select the uni that suit you and apply for the program,if u qualify they will send you admission letter with other documents advicing on how to obtain your entry visa and all you have to do is submitt the right documents with evidence of funds to the embassy(it does not matter if u are sponsoring yourself or not as long as the source of funds in genuine).so why cant people give these advice for free instaed of asking people to pay for it,i guess we are in a desperate country and people would try anything to make money.
TravelRe: Uk Spouse Visa - Part Time Occupation by djavo(m): 8:02pm On Jun 08, 2009
I think you have got all the right stuff you going to need. The only thing i can add is that your spouse should get a letter confirming that his employer is taking him back on a full time basis(the issue of payslips would have been covered by the employers offer letter).I was in a little bit similar position as yours last year ,my wife was not working then cos she was studing.Althogh she was getting NHS grant, we manage to convince the ECO that i have got a job offer and i also printed some jobs that meets my skills and experience from the jobcentreplus website, proof of what i was doing at the time of application, evidence of funds that is available to me,evidence of communication btw us i.e emails, calling cards, greeting cards e.t.c and we also made statement about our relationship on where we started and some of our feature plans together.I had to provide as many as possible evidence that i could lay my hands on cos i thought i have never been to the uk b4 so i had to show that the relationship was a genuie one but i think you will be alright cos you have been to the UK many times. And most important is prayers.Goodl luck

Hi guys, glory be God. I applied for settlement visa as a first time applicant in the middle of august, got an interview date this week and visa was granted. Document submitted were enough wedding pictures, letters in form of emails, greeting cards, phone cards from me and my wife, bank statements showing salary earnings, work id card, letter from employer, birth cert, supporting letters from both of us explaining our relationship over the years and our plan for the future, sponsor tenancy agreement, certified copy of sponsor's passport, job offer plus jobsearch vacancies, marriage cert and above all prayer from all angles. The interview with the ECO was very short,12 minutes to be precise but make sure you remember everything you put on the form cos the first few minutes of the interview counts very much as they are able to build up an impression on your case with the first few question, that might determine how long the interview is going to last for.Anybody that would want me to share my experience with them is very much welcome.
