With all the insecurity in the Northern part, incessant kidnapping and mayhem during protest....>Even an Hausa man will not be dumb in citing a huge project in the North...The only region safe in Nigeria for such huge projects remain the Southwest.............Niger Delta have the history of kidnapping expatriate in the past, east has the monopoly of maiming service men and police, North is chaos.

I think it was around 1994/95

There was no kerosene for long time, people had to devise means by using saw dust with paint containers
Both the rich and poor experienced it - it was a result of the demonic sanctions of the collective west on Nigeria at the time, the same tool they use till date to limit countries growth and complete liberty. There are outright sanctions, tariffs and systemic sanctions placed on goods camouflaged as standards.

Those era was tough, army picks people up as they want- as a young boy, passing in front of Ojo barracks at the time or Signal barracks (Mile 2) was scary. They can even come to the next bus stop, move people to their gate to start picking papers, or cutting grass. There were older men that they would punish, make you do frog jump every morning. You literally cannot question the military anywhere....As soon as i gained admission into LASU at the time, we used every opportunity to fight back, every soldier caught in our own school gate area too get beaten. That era was hellish......this indomie generation can never understand...... Refilling your gas was more expensive than the minimum wage at the time...... Many families could not even afford kerosene, only the rich use gas. The average families could only afford room & parlor in a face me i slap you compound. Most toilets were latrines or pit toilet, where will you see WC.
Foreign AffairsRe: European Leaders React To Trump's Tariffs Over Greenland Dispute by djseanjohn77: 7:07am On Jan 18
Basicend:
Personally, I applaud some of Trump's right-wing ideologies and fights.

However, his illegal planned seizure of Greenland will be his biggest mistake and that of the US. It will further cement the isolation of USA from its allies and the world in general.

Canada just struck some highly significant partnership deals with China this week. Hence cutting off the US.

Mexico is considering more diversification from the American market. Brazil is already with BRICS.

So which spine will the American international trade and partnerships leverage on if Europe is gone?

Africa? That trump sees as shithole?

Reality is that the rest of the the world want respect from their partners. US have to Taylor it's geopolitical goals along that line.
Collectively, they have been weaponizing sanctions and tariffs against their perceived enemies or competitors for decades, using the advantage of dollar being the world reserved currency. Today, there is alternative trade currency, once that is perfected, having it's own currency and platform, America will be dead. The truth about American economy will come to fore. Some European allies are already asking Putin and China for BRICS membership.....Turkey, Hungary Finland etc.....more will join.
America does not want to realize the world has since change, imagine if their sanctions (19th package) did not sink Russia, that should speak volume, rather than understand the world has become a true global village, with multipolarism, they want to fight the last lap.
This is the exact mistake past world empires did that hasten their collapse. The globe itself fixes itself at some point, failure to recognise that always bring to fore hegemonic and imperialists ambition of the powerful.
Overtime, America thinks their economy is buoyant or robust, absolutely not - They have built their economy to the disadvantage of the rest of the world. They print currency as they so desire, then they distribute the consequence in terms of inflation on other countries who demand more of the currency. America has got more dollars outside America than in America. Imagine if all those notes become paper or worthless overnight? (If people stopped trading in them) - That's literally a catastrophic collapse.
For decades, they have blackmailed nations, threatened nations, leaders alike. America does not engage in diplomacy, their only diplomacy is, they tell you what to do, no discussion, you accept or get blackmailed, threatened with sanctions, cut off from world trade, or systemic blockade in goods and services. Most leaders in the past have been helpless to the detriment of their nations, also because they know, if they don't say Yes Sir! America will eventually get someone from the same country to do their wish and betray his people. And if they raise up an opposition, they will use their media tools to spread lies calling you a dictator. All for the American ambition...

Well, thanks to Russia and China for standing up to them and showing that sanctions and tariffs can be defeated with foresight and leadership brilliance. Russia started planning against these since 2015 after the Maidan coup in Ukraine when the democratically elected president was overthrown by Victoria Nuland and co. (Obama regime). Russia still engaged in series of diplomacy, but the West had prepared for war since 2014 - they started training Ukrainian army since 2015 and weaponizing them. They had limited Russia's ability to fight a war to 3-6 months and they will run out of ammunitions, then they will come in and demand capitulation. Their plan B was to stiffen Russia's economy so that it bleeds from within, then the people themselves revolt against Putin and remove him from power through unrest that will bring Western forces in. Their 3rd plan was to engage in blockade of trade partners, routes, hybrid war, seizure of assets of govt and individuals and piracy. However, Russia has dominated in this area too. What they expected to happen to Russia has happened to the top European countries themselves - German, France, Uk's economies have all nose-dived.
Russia had known winning Ukraine outrightly will bring them to their knees, then what? Ukraine will be rebuilt quickly, and the West will still come in anyways one way or the other. But bleeding Ukraine through war of attrition will make Ukraine think they are able to fight Russia - but unknown to them, their men are depleting, their country is collapsing and future killed. After the war, Ukraine will never be the same again for a long time. The able-bodied men who have left for other nations will not return anytime soon. The nation is depleted; they can't even find new men to kidnap on the street to take to front line or do any new mobilization. They have reduced the mobilisation age to 18, they even have more women they are recruiting now, while Europeans instructor is replacing their commanders in the control room so that those commanders can become frontline commanders.

This can only happen in one region in Nigeria, Southwest - if it happens especially in the East, you will become their permanent enemy- They must all sleep and face one side - so that when they drown, they drown as a people. No freedom of expression, no dynamism, no liberalism.....One man somewhere must decide for the whole tribe, who to vote, when to sit at home, who not to support - And if you do otherwise, you are seen as permanent enemy. The only region who sees opposition as enemy.

SultanYoung:
Like I said before now NOLLYWOOD is the most wicked industry on earth.

genuinely dislike the Nigerian entertainment industry with every fiber of my being.

There is little to no love in that space—only clout and cold calculations. Take Funke Akindele for example. This is someone whose movies have publicly recorded box-office earnings running into hundreds of millions of naira in a single year. That is not speculation; Nigerian box-office data and cinema records confirm it.

Now tell me: if someone who makes ₦500 million+ from just one movie cannot spare ₦20 million to support a colleague in distress—even if they are not on speaking terms—what does that say about us as an industry?

₦20 million is less than 5% of ₦500 million. In any serious society, that kind of gesture would be seen as basic humanity, not charity. It would send a powerful message that human life matters more than ego, beef, or brand image.

But here, success is celebrated loudly, while compassion is rationed carefully. That is the verifiable truth, and that is why many of us are tired of pretending this industry is built on love.
Do not limit this to movie industries - It's just a sample of our population; it tells more of who we are as people. Most of the people who help in Nigeria help for"

2. Because they themselves are looking unto God for higher miracle (givers never lack) - Still spiritual - See sowing
3. For eye service

5. To get recognition and more followers (VDM and other content creators) - Attract people to their page
6. Just to appear as a philanthropist, a giver.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has launched a scathing attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the opposition party as a “swamp” and predicting further defections by key figures.

Speaking during a media engagement, Fayose claimed that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed would eventually leave the PDP for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as internal crises continue to weaken the party.

“The PDP is a swamp. Governor Makinde and Governor Bala will go to the ADC,” Fayose said. “This party is no longer what it used to be.”

The outspoken former governor dismissed calls for his expulsion and that of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, insisting that the PDP lacks the moral and political authority to sanction them.

“The PDP cannot expel people like Governor Wike and me,” Fayose stated. “Ironically, the majority of those who accused us of anti-party activities are now in the APC.”

Fayose further lamented the state of the party, saying it has become irreparably divided and ineffective as an opposition force.

“PDP today is a cloth torn into two halves and of no use to either side,” he said.

His remarks come amid persistent leadership disputes, defections, and internal realignments within the PDP, raising concerns about the party’s cohesion ahead of future elections.

Political analysts say Fayose’s comments reflect growing frustration among senior party figures and underscore the deepening cracks threatening the PDP’s relevance on the national stage.
Everybody in ADC today were once PDP members, it's just recycling, renaming, and re-gathering of old thieves.
They have been out of power for too long, their coffers have run dry, the need revamping and reloading of their pockets

What became of them? The aeroplane that crashed into WTC could not have demolished the building, the Israelites caught in few Km filming the incidents were freed, the passport of a terrorist found in a plane that crashed and burnt to ashes yet passport didn't burn. Why would a terrorist need a passport for local flight? Only to leave it behind unburnt in the plane during the crash - no other thing was found except the passport ; D

In this eye-opening video, I visit a real UK building site, carry heavy blocks, mix cement, and chat with bricklayers to find out what they ACTUALLY earn in just 8 hours!
General labourer (feeding blocks): £150/day ≈ ₦290,000–₦300,000+ (at current rates!)
Beginner bricklayer: £200/day ≈ ₦380,000+ Naira!
Compare that to typical Nigerian bricklayer pay (₦5,000–₦20,000/day) — the difference is massive! Is japa worth it? 💭 (Remember: UK has taxes, high bills & living costs — but the raw earnings are wild!)
This is raw, on-site truth — no cap! 🔥

Firstly, A labourer does not get job everyday, perhaps you get to work 3-4 times weekly max and may not even get 8hrs job.
Secondly, you will pay income tax, National Insurance, VAT, and corporation tax, among others.
Rent alone will gop around 600 pounds on the minimum from that.
Transport 100 pounds
Feeding 200 pounds (on budget)
Internet (compulsory) 24-40 pounds
other bills 200 pounds

At the end of the day, you will just be living with no plans or luck for breakthrough. You can't cheat the system.

PoliticsRe: It’s Wrong To Compare Wizkid To Fela - Seun Kuti Fires Back At Fans by djseanjohn77: 7:17am On Jan 12
alphonsojidebab:
Seun Kuti, Afrobeat musician and son of the late legendary icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has criticised repeated comparisons between Afrobeats star Wizkid and his father, describing such claims as disrespectful and misleading. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Speaking during a recent Instagram Live session, Seun cautioned members of Wizkid’s fanbase, popularly known as Wizkid FC, against referring to the Grammy-winning singer as a modern-day Fela. According to him, equating any contemporary artiste with the Afrobeat pioneer undermines the originality, impact, and historical significance of Fela’s legacy.

Seun argued that his father’s influence went far beyond music, stressing that Fela’s art was deeply rooted in activism, resistance, and social consciousness—qualities he believes cannot be casually replicated or transferred to another artist.

He expressed frustration over what he described as persistent online disrespect toward Fela, questioning why his father’s name is often dragged into debates involving modern Afrobeats stars. Seun said such comparisons stem from ignorance rather than genuine appreciation of Fela’s contributions to African music and global political discourse.

The Afrobeat singer also blamed extreme fan rivalries for negatively affecting the Nigerian music industry, noting that unnecessary comparisons and online hostility have made collaborations between artistes increasingly difficult.

According to Seun, fans should focus on appreciating their favourite artistes for who they are, rather than attempting to elevate them by placing them alongside cultural icons of a different era and purpose.

He urged Wizkid’s supporters to celebrate the singer’s achievements on their own merit and allow Fela’s legacy to remain respected and undiluted.

The comments have since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians divided over the long-running debate between Afrobeat heritage and modern Afrobeats stardom.

2. Rolling Dollar started playing music in the 1940s, first using a thumb piano, before moving onto the guitar, and joining highlife bands in Lagos in the hey-day of the 1950s and 1960s.
3. Arguably, the greatest Igbo musician came into the picture much later (1976). Oliver De Coque's musical history is marked by his innovative contributions to the highlife genre. Born on April 14, 1947. However, there are 3 people before Oliver d Coque - Celestine Okwu, Osadebe and Mike Ejeagha....a. Osadebe started with Arinze's and in the 50s as a vocalist and formed his own band in 1960s. b. Victor Uwaifo also released his first record in 1965. he was born in 1941. c. Mike Ejeagha started in 1962 died by car crash in 1977).
He (Osadebe) was crowned 'The King of Highlife' of Africa in 1994 by the then Alaafin of Oyo (A Yoruba monarch), Lamidi Adeyemi III.

5. Afro beat started by Fela Kuti in the 70s. taken to a whole new level by Remedies, Wiz Kid, Davido, D Banj, Burna etc The likes of Plantashun Bois did R&B majorly.
6. Fuji music, a vibrant genre rooted in Yoruba culture, emerged in Nigeria during the 1960s, evolving from wéré music and gaining widespread popularity through influential artists like Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.

We would see that every notable genre of music in Nigeria today were created or started by the Southwest in Nigeria. The Yoruba language itself is melodious as the tones follows Do - Re - Mi which are the basic tones in music. With Do - Re - Mi, a Yoruba can create many meaningful tones with just one word. And the region was known for entertainment. Yoruba Entertainment History
The history of Yoruba entertainment is deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of the Yoruba people, with its roots tracing back to the 1300s. The Yoruba homeland, primarily in the Southwestern part of Nigeria, is the epicenter of this entertainment industry. You can't fix electricity in Nigeria in 4 years - Our mode of generation presently has no capacity to increase within the short time- Construction nuclear energy power plant will take 6-10 years. Wind turbine and solar are the easiest to setup - any other form will take longer. It also depend on how many MWh you want to generate.

The solution is to subsidise solar for the citizens as a supplementary source
