I am an Environmental & Sustainability Specialist outside Nigeria - Although originally a Lagosian - The issue of Lagos flooding, i would agree that though you have pointed out the major problem. Your solution will not work in Lagos or any other place that experiences such rainfalls as it does in Lagos. UAE, Qatar, Houston, Moscow that are even desert, highlands could not even cope with the downpour this year alone. I once profer a solution to the Lagos State Env Dept, months later, i discovered that they have all that in place. However, coming to understand the complexity of the problem, there is almost no solution- The main solution is to have a concrete collector tank (surface reservoirs) where all the water can be channeled. The water to be treated for re-use. Such tanks will be huge such that it can take almost the number of rainfalls in Lagos all year round. We have such a system in my country of resident - but then they hold the water and eventually discharge it inside the ocean when the tides are low. Such reservoir will be created across the State with pumps connecting them through sump pit, to deep wells. Well, as i learnt, Lagos has the sump in place, the recharge well is in place (some) and they have started the construction of the reservoirs. It is very expensive, but in 20 years' time, hopefully it will be done. After all, said, this will only reduce the impact of rainfall and flooding. The habits of the people, blocking drains, channels, gullies, manholes etc. has to be improved. The other option is to start Lekki / VI reconstruction from a start - proper planning with adequate flood mitigation plans in place before construction is re-started. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Th e world has left them behind. The greatest undoing is weaponizing the dollar. Well, they can still flex their muscles against Europe as he got everything, he wanted from them through the trade war. Apart from their allies, many nations today do not fear them anymore. Even small Iran attacked their military base. The Houthis sank 3 helicopters, sent America out of the West bank.... after series of attack on their ships and aircraft carrier. The US do not see anyone in the world as partner, they get what they want, they ask you what to do - If you refuse, they threaten you with sanctions, tariffs, regime change and a proxy war (using internal conflict) or neighboring countries. they have these foot soldiers everywhere whom they supply weapons to and use them to foment trouble just to destabilize you. If Tinubu had waited few days to remove it, the cabal would have dissuaded him. How can you remove something that made us use almost all of our generated revenue to service debt and the economy will not feel it? Make it make sense. Nigeria was literally borrowing to pay salaries, no money for infrastructure, we were literally broke, that we started owing. Governors could not pay salaries of several months. All that has changed, governors now receive x2 -x3 of their previous allocation, and it is being published monthly also for everyone to see. If the States are serious, they could have used the additional funds to do palliatives. Today, governors can pay salaries, hardly is there any state government owing salaries or struggling to pay. And the rate of borrowing by these governors has reduced except for capital projects. There cannot be change without the people feeling the effect, not to mention a changed that is over 2 decades old. The good thing is, the economy has stabilized, the revenue has increased, with time, it will spread. But it will spread to people who have something tangible doing, not for people who are fixated on the idea of white-collar jobs.... you have to be involved in exchange of goods and services, cos the next level is service and goods exchange. You must be able to produce something to benefit from the economy. |

Do you know that, in 1960, the population of Nigeria and Germany was the same, today, we are almost 5 times their population. In fact, their population is around the same thresh-hold may be 0.001 percent increases in the same period. Imagine our revenue 3. trillion, and imagine our population was 50million? Imagine the entire population residing in Lagos were to be 5 million, Abuja 2M, Kano 4, Kaduna 3, other big states 2M and smaller states 1 - 1.5M? Wisdomkosi:An area that does not accommodate people, who does not sell land or open up their region to others can simply not develop, even if you pack all the resources there, the hostility will lay the place to waste. Imagine Tinapa was built in Lagos, imagine how it would have been attracting people day-in-day-out. That is what diversity does to region, it opens up the region for rapid development, until that idea that we don't have enough land to sell is removed, that area can never develop. Does Lagos have lands? Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria (in land size), but even with that, land are sold, today, we even have Igbos selling estate lands, many Igbos in Lagos are Estate investors/developers - There is enough money on the streets of Lagos because of the inclusivity and liberalism. 1 Like |

At that time, while people were residing in those areas, they used the lie of flood to threaten and evict people - Today, the flood is still a problem. I was born in Maroko in 1979, we had houses at old Awoyaya, Aworetan, Olukotun but lost all. We temporarily moved to Ikoyi, then to Ajegunle until we found ourselves in Badagry. Unfortunately, it was military era, no compensation was done, you can't even challenge them it's an order you had to obey. Most families lost their loved ones, some, entire family etc. Many relocated elsewhere, along the coastal areas of Lagos, Makoko, Ibeshe and inland etc |

essentialone:The truth is, most Nigeria ladies nowadays offer nothing in a relationship, absolutely nothing. They can't keep a conversation going with a level of IQ. They can contribute to your knowledge. Most of them can't even cook, clean or wash (even with a washing machine) - they will make you spend on ordering food or go on expensive dates. Most of them can't pray. They literally offer nothing, the fact is, the few that will say they offer emotional support, ask their boyfriends to be honest, they are just managing them, there isn't any much of a support apart from their presence in the relationship. They can even bill you, or remember what they need to buy even while you are emotionally down. That's still $500 compared to over $25k in abroad, the question you should ask yourself is, in abroad, how many of their children are able to pay those fees without loan from government? If the truly have the number cos people assume they earn well, if truly that's the case, they should be able to pay for these basic things outrightly and no need for loans, mortgages, finance or credit - While it is good to have credit, loan etc facilities to assist you meet your goals, it remains a debt on your neck for a good time of your life, that's why inability to pay back by these people pushes them into drugs, depression etc. I decided 2 years ago, to put my credit card away, i am not on any loan as i speak, or any form of mortgage, but have been able to manage my fundings within this period effectively. While in Nigeria, they say people are poor, but most of those poor build their homes from scratch with their hard-earned money, buy rickety cars with their hard-earned money. Pay school fees with their hard-earned money. $500 to $25k that's ration 1: 50,000, you wouldn't even spend 30% of the 25k to finish your studies in Nigeria. |

The man is a dunce, you will know from his rhetorics whenever he is asked questions, he keeps repeating and quoting same speech even when they are unrelatable. As per heads-up, i doubt, given the Arise interview with Rufai where he had to even look at the prepared responses and yet were still making mistakes. I still stand by my words, he is being sponsored by some underground network, people who want to package him to us to get to power, they will soon cease power as soon as he becomes president, cos he is too soft, and you can tell he will be a weakling of a president. |

They have all been fluctuating around same trajectory. Harris recently mentioned that, against the backdrop of support other nations or association, what comes first for US is their foreign agenda to dominate others, including EU.
